Everybody’s belly-achin’ about Kawakami, but consider this, in spite of his pricey contract, he’s still a better option than putting anyone else on the roster or on the farm in the 4 spot at this point.
JoJo is pretty much an L everytime you put him out there, so if KK wasn’t there, we’d be be going with even more of a crapshoot in the 4-5 spots.
I’d like to see somebody else in the 5-hole, either Tommy G. or Tommy H.
Tommy G. could possibly push KK to the 5-hole.
Anyhow, I’d rather see Cox mix it up a bit for 5th starter by giving Bennett, Carlyle and Campillo (is he off the DL yet) some spot starts, especially in games like last Friday’s when the deck was stacked against ol’ JoJo.

Thw Wizard…you sound a little upset and jealous of all the success the Braves have had. Please tell me how many east division titles have the Muts won?
Hey, DOB. I’ve been a long-time admirer of your work on this blog, but this is my first post. Bobby has always been wonderful at keeping an even keel and negotiating the peaks and troughs of a 162 game season. I’m not too concerned with our home/road splits or anything like that. As long as we keep winning series against our division opponents, I think this team will be relevant in September. Even though it’s a long season and one game doesn’t mean much in the win/loss column, things certainly have a way of snowballing in this sport and I think that this road trip (and last night’s win in particular) prove that the NL East is a 4-team race and won’t be decided until the end. What do you think the Braves miss most? Power? Speed? Or just health and consistency from the group we’ve already got?
DOB- If you get a chance, take a walk out towards the Pepsi Porch. There’s a walkway you have to cross to get to it. From the walkway there’s a glorious view of the chop shops you love so much! Certainly an angle you rarely get. Just when you think that area can’t look any worse to the eye, comes this new perspective. (They are in the process of buying up all that land for redevelopment)
Chipper’s in lineup, did some throwing before batting practice and said it felt better. Said you might seen him wince on a couple of swings, but that for now he’s good to go.
Jim– It’s a good thing I don’t use this stuff for work. I’d be in the unemployment line so fast it’d make my head spin.
I just shaved and brushed my teeth. The store is getting closer.
Before you want to discard what I’m saying about the possiblities of Sizemore gracing our line up, you might want to look at the numbers and see if they add up. Were any of you around when Cleveland traded C.C when everyone said it won’t happen??
I hope all you losers didn’t forget that the Mets went down to Atlanta and took both those games. Lowe didn’t beat Santana. The defense let him down. Anyway the Mets will win tonite and keep their lead in the division.
Well since Chipper actually said we might see him wince a little then I won’t be surprised to see him do it tonight. But then it won’t make it predictable if he coming out or not. Oh well at least he’s in there. If he’s hurting real bad, I’d guess Bobby would take him out in the late innings with a lead.
Um Braves got the most hits so far off of Santana this year and the fewest K’s so far and for our weak offense to do that, that is beating him. What Ace can’t throw more than 108 pitches? I mean we have 4 guys in our rotation that can throw more than that to complete six, and not go on the DL. It’s not like he was about to face Chipper.
Oh, and McCann took the glasses off after the Reyes walk in the fourth inning, said they were just fogging up too much. He thought it was because it was chillier last night, and his body temp and the outside air caused it to fog, unlike in Philly.
He had a bottle of the spray “Cat Crap” anti-fogging stuff, and while I talked to him in the clubhouse he sprayed it on the glasses and wiped it carefully. He was a little confused by the instructions, so I read them aloud, too. We came to conclusion that he was doing it properly, wiping them until no streaks after spraying the stuff on. I told him he actually might have wiped and buffed them too much (he’s very particular, very careful with this stuff, not at all what you’d expect from someone with nickname “Heap” for his messiness. That musta been pre-marriage, because he doesn’t seem very messy now, at all).
Anyway, we’ll see how it works tonight. Might have been first time he really used the stuff, I couldn’t tell.
Oh, and he said he can see well enough to catch without them, but he doesn’t want to have to do that if he can avoid it. His second pair of glasses will be in Atlanta on Thursday, so he won’t have to be quite as worried as he is now about scratching the lenses on these. I mentioned the Rain-X product to him that so many have e-mailed me about, and he seemed concerned about using it on his glasses. I told him I thought it was fine, that others had used it on goggles, glasses, everything.
Maybe he’ll try that if he doesn’t like how this stuff works, and after he gets a second pair of glasses.
“Before you want to discard what I’m saying about the possiblities of Sizemore gracing our line up, you might want to look at the numbers and see if they add up. Were any of you around when Cleveland traded C.C when everyone said it won’t happen??”
C’mon, you said Sizemore was being shopped for guys like Hernandez, Reyes and another “low level talent”. Cleveland moved Sabathia for much more than that (LaPorta), and that was in a FA year. Sizemore is signed for a few more years and for cheap. Any discussion of Sizemore coming here starts with Schafer, Hanson or Heyward.
bravo-I’m just not seeing that the Braves would put together a package of prospects big enough to get Sizemore and then watch him walk into Free Agency in four months. You did hear about the Tex trade? A trade of prospects for Sizemore would result in much the same situation-good prospects gone for a few month rental. We won’t re-sign him. He’s not worth it
Wizard–Yes, the Braves run ended a couple of years ago…….however, my question to you would be (since you are trying to declare the Mutts as some kind of dynasty that us and the Phillies fans are so envious of) when will the Mutts run BEGIN???? You haven’t won JACK in 23 years now!!HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Have you talked to Tim Hudson in a while? They always show him on tv talking to teammates and it looks like he makes all the road trips also. Any news on him would be appreciated.
This is Sizemore’s contract. 2009:$4.6M, 2010:$5.6M, 2011:$7.5M, 2012:$8.5M club option ($0.5M buyout)
Extremely team friendly for a few years if you ask me for a guy who averages 27 HRs 84 RBIs and 28 SB a year. He was actually better than that last year showing no signs of regression.
CC was about to become a free agent and it was known he would get 20+MM per year.
#1 Mutts Troll——I don’t think the point of last night’s game was for Lowe to beat Santana. It was for the BRAVES to beat the MUTTS……which they did. Here’s a riddle for you Troll: What 3 syllable word strikes fear into Mutt fans and causes them to gag like a bone is caught in their throat? September
Anthony, Hudson is supposed to start throwing off the mound soon. Rehab is going well, no setbacks. Braves are hoping for return sometime in August, but won’t push it to get him back a week earlier or whatever.
Mutt Troll, ya’ll were saying that BS last night, too. I realize rooting for heartbreakers and losers make you bitter and paranoid, but try and show a little smarts, which apprantly you don’t have.
I don’t know crap about the Indians and their GM, but Sizemore to the Braves would shock me. You’d have to give up at one of Heyward/Hanson on top of some other talent to land a proven talent like him. Not gonna happen if that’s the case. Wren won’t budge on those guys, and we should all be glad. I can see Dye coming over this year because with his age and him being a FA after ‘09, maybe Hernandez and Reyes or Morton. Even then, I don’t know if Wren would do it.
Apparently I was nowhere near the mark on Sizemore’s contract status. Still not too sure the Braves would spend that much in salary and prospects even with the team friendly terms.
One more thing….I knew this several years ago. You Yahoo’s are going to hang on to that division thing like a drowning man holds onto a floating log. Everytime you’re backed into a corner that’s all you got. It’s weak people. You got one WS out of it and you act like it was 14. If you’re going to live in the distant past, lets see the “atlanta” braves have been to 5 WS(20%) and won 1 while the New York Mets have been to four and won 2(50%). We can go round and round with the past can’t we. In fact 1 WS during that streak is PATHETIC!!
Let BMac know he can trust the RainX.
My son used it (as a catcher under his mask – the hockey style)
for 13 years of playing – when eyes were irratated from contacts.
It REALLY works!
3 years left on his contract, why would CLE make that trade. They would no doubt want an established player, 2 ready now players, and a young pitcher to continue developing. That would equal a Reyes, Schaefer, Hanson, and possibly Morton or Medlin. Atl wouldn’t give that up for Peavy when they begging for pitching. That “Hot Stove” rumor is full of BS. You could smell it with cyber smell…
JerseyGil—So you are suggesting that the Braves sign Bay after the season. That would be a possibility (unlike him being traded during the season), but how would that help this Braves team this season? And are you willing to sign Bay to a long term deal, as it would likely take for him to sign since he would be on the open market? I wouldn’t care much for that since I think we’ll be seeing Heyward in Atlanta in 2011 (and possibly even late 2010).
Asked the wife how we found out about the RainX – my son started using it when he was 9 yrs. old – now 23, she said she was told by his eye doctor to use it!
I think RainX makes a product to prevent fogging of windows.
My son has been taking care of this for the last several years since he was away at college playing.
I don’t know if they’ve suggested this but last night on BBTN Kruk said when he wore glasses they drilled a tiny hole in each lens ( most likely near the top outside corner) to prevent the glasses for fogging up.
BTW, I got Soriano’s autograph on a baseball last night during BP. After he signed it, I thanked him for getting DP to C with it. And he smiled because he knew.
Thanks for the info on McCann, Chief! Hope he cann work out the de-fogging thing; so glad he’s doing well otherwise.
he’s very particular, very careful with this stuff, not at all what you’d expect from someone with nickname “Heap” for his messiness. That musta been pre-marriage, because he doesn’t seem very messy now, at all
If you’re a female, around 30ish, and nice looking, you can stalk me a little bit. I’m a little lonely now, since I got rejected. I may be catchable on the rebound.
Macon Braves (RIP) ..Did you remember last yr…The Braves almost get Bay from Pitts…If were are on contend in July…don’t be surprise that we get him for a minor league Outfielder.not name Heyward or Gorky
lineup looks nice. same approach as last night. lowe is certainly doing great, but i think its too early to decide if we’re getting our moneys worth. remember mike hampton, always. definetly need more home game wins and actually fill out the TED. it’s really embarrassing to watch or to actually go there and you have the whole 225 section to yourself.
That darn Chip just said in the pre-game show that both of Santana’s losses had come in starts when he didn’t give up an earned run!
That Chip must really hate the Braves to mention that. Or at least that was the logic of bloggers last night when the ESPN team were discussing similar facts.
KJ is batting .242, as I said before, he will be hitting north of 250 by the end of this road trip. We need to send Schafer to Gwinnett yesterday. Can Brandon Jones play CF?
MarrietaDerek, you’re a weird dude! What is your facination with that line? It ain’t funny and got old the first time you posted it. That Axe crap is a rip off anyways when you can get something half the price that works as good,if not better. Let me guess, you use that line to pick up the girls…
Zookey….I don’t need you or any other blogger to validate my post. The facts speak for themselves. You all just talk/post a lot of sh-it that for the most part doesn’t hold any water. You all post stat’s than in a vacuum sound great but in the whole scheme of things are a bunch of hogwash.
You gotta wonder what this team will do in the offseason with so much pitching depth (whether they will pick up Hudson’s option for 12million). They really do have a lot of trade bait come July and this offseason. Jo-Jo, KK, Hanson, Medlen, and Hudson on top of JJ, Lowe, and Vazquez.
This is great problem to have though if you are the braves.
JerseyGil–I’m getting confused now…so you are saying that the Braves should trade for Bay this year? If so, then again, why would Boston trade him? Just because he’s a FA at the end of the year? They’re not some small market team that is looking to trade pending FA’s. They plan on contending this year with Bay in LF. So once again, the Red Sox are not looking to trade Bay, they aren’t Pittsburg!!
Good grief with some people thinking that anyone they think the Braves should go after is going to be available just because the Braves want them. I guess the other 29 teams really are just out there to help the Braves out in their time of need…..mighty nice of those teams.
