This time I agree. Bobby lost this one. One, you don’t intentionally walk Cora. Then you don’t leave Bennett in afterwards. And he did leave JJ in to long. That was awful.
LEW….How did you like that at bat from Beltran? What about the late inning double and stolen base that eventually ties the game…..just wondering what your sleep deprived as-s was thinking.
wow.. we just had to find a way to lose huh? That’s tough. On the hindsight, JJ “probably” should probably been relieved by the 7th.. But Bobby did nothing wrong here… 1 run lead and you bring in Gonzo.. but he blew it.. Damn!
Bobby deserves to get bashed in every single way possible for that stupid decision. Just plain ignorant to leave your worst reliever in there to blow a game we shoulda won. But, what else is new? Oh, lets see what Brian Jordan has to say…
Cox needs to go. He just doesn’t feel the flow of the game. I think every fan at home could see that Bennett didn’t have it tonight and he shouldn’t have left him in the game. The umpires AND Bobby lost this one.
Look at the Braves run production, and any GM can tell, the Braves are in deep trouble. Except for Chipper and McCann, they’re a bunch of mediocre banjo hitters.
Yeah…there was some good in this game…but DANGIT, it was Beltran! He’s the one…oh-ho…kinda makes sense he’d knock in the winning run since he literally stole a base…oh boy…that was bad.
MFin04 (The Hopeless Romantic), Bobby Cox will never get fired. It would make too much sense. They will never sniff a World Championship as long as he remains the manager, and I’ve been saying that for 10 years. So……be content with mediocrity, as it’s this team’s stock and trade nowadays…..
Bennett was terrible. For all the people yelling for Soriano to be in the game, I think the logic goes like this. Soriano has pitched two straight games and 24 pitches last night. He would probably only pitch if the Braves got the lead and needed him to save the game. Buddy threw 29 pitches last night (in a quite mediocre performance). James Parr, anyone? I would have preferred Parr but would not have had much confidence.
The problem started when Bobby Cox used Moylan and O’Flaherty for one batter each. If Moylan had looked better (gimme a break: a 4 pitch walk?), the EOF would have still be available. Any news on whether Campillo will make it back? He could replace Bennett.
2 outs no one on and he blows this game… great management bobbyy.. back to under 500.. what the hec.. way to suck it upp cox lets hear ur excuse for this.. but to leave a pitcher in and walks 3 come on..
The Braves are “rollin” DOB?? Are you kidding me?? They win a few games and you think they’re “rollin”. These guys suck Franceour, Kelly Johnson, Schafer….they all suck this year. Garrett Anderson looks like an 80 year old out there. You should have been fired after the whole Ken Griffey fiasco. Write the truth!! THE BRAVES SUCK A$$!!!!
While we are nuturing Ice Cold in CF we can’t afford a pitcher who hits and walks batters in a key situation. Bennett had a chance to demonstrate he is a ML pitcher tonight. He failed miserably. Even if we want Hanson to just be a starter and work regularly (I know Reyes is pitching tomorrow) until he can work regularly in bigs, we might as well give Medlen a chance to help the team now.
Another donation game. Just one game. How far away is Campillo? Bennett has the ERA but it really isn’t indicative of what he’s done. Hopefully the offfense shows up tomorrow and good luck to Reyes. Hopefully he pitches the way he did against St. Louis and Not Philly.
Hey Come on guys, lets look at this positive from the game, Kelly went 0-5 in the leadoff spot, isnt that great?!?!?! Oh wait, no, that SUCKS BIG GIANT DONKEY &^%*%*&%&%*&!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
One of the most sickening finishes ever. Poor guys can’t ever seem to get a break. I don’t blame cox other than his initial decision to put Bennett in was questionable. It was those BS calls about the ground rule double and the botched Beltran steal call that ruined it. Cue the booze. I am out. I don’t want to see all the lameass mutts fans trying to justify the win as having anything to do with skill.
well….i have been a huge supporter of bobby cox but you know that old coot is solely responsible for this loss. it is completely inexcusable and shows exactly why we ain’t going no where. despite our teams best efforts he continues to find ways to screw the pooch. first of all jurrjens should not have started the 8th, should have been soriano. and then for unexpicable reasons he has bennett in the tenth. i mean again hello bobby you have soriano in the pen. absolutely no excuse for losing this one. i love this team but if we have any plans on contending some people need to go starting with bobby and i can’t even believe i am saying that. a change is needed or else we might as well get used to a long season of disappointment.
Well on the bright side, JJ didn’t get a loss today. Also, the more the Mets win now the earlier they will choke later when it matters. Its now a science chokeology. Maybe Bennett should play for the Mets…..
As bad as this loss hurts…. and even though I have almost zero confidence in Jo Jo… seems like it’s these type losses that the Braves have come back and won the next day. Doesn’t excuse the loss, but Jo Jo has some really weird stat about performing better in day games rather than night games.

ITS BAD WHEN THE TV CREW IS SHOWING THE METS PLAYERS LAUGHING BECAUSE THEY KNOW THEY HAD THE GAME WON. BENNETT IS AWFULL!!!!!!!

JAR JAR PITCHES A FANTASTIC GAME AND BOBBY BLOWS IT FOR HIM. SO NOW WE HAVE A DAY GAME TOMORROW WITH A SOUR TASTE IN OUR MOUTHS AND WE WILL LOSE THE SERIES. THANKS BOBBY!!!!!!
I DO HAVE TO SAY THOUGHT THAT THE STOLEN BASE IN THE 9TH WAS A BAD CALL BY THE UMP. THE MAN WAS OUT AND THE GAME SHOULD HAVE BEEN OVER.
HOME FIELD OFFICIATING IF YOU ASK ME.
If Gonzalez had done his job in the ninth though, no one would be slamming Bobby Cox, but it doesn’t change the fact that the game has passed him by long ago, and the Braves will continue to be mediocre, winning just enough to tease, but losing games in ways (like tonight) that would drive a man to drink….
Bennett looks like he has gained 40 lbs and lost the ability not to suck at life. By the way, that call at third base was a total effing joke. I hate the effing mets. Vent over.
I knew when I saw Bennett come in that this game was lost. He is by far the worst relief pitcher on the team. Tomorrow we have the worst starting pitcher in the league going for us…..what started as a great rode trip is gonna end as average….just like this team is.
I’m pissed. Like everyone else I feel that Bennett had no business in the game. Everything else Bobby did I agreed with. Even though Jurrjens gave up the double to Reyes it was the right move to let him try to get out of it. First and foremost I blame the missed call on Beltran’s steal but something that might get overlooked is Anderson’s effort on the singe before Reyes’s hit. I echo everyone else’s sentiments about Jurrjens, what a tough break.
DO NOT blame the upires for this game. The Braves had a million different chances tonight to salt this one away. The Mets had two chances to win it. One team came through and the other was left wondering what happened. That’s probably why one of these teams will probably be playing meaningful games in September, and one of them will probably be playing out the string. Pathetic.
Beltran had to Hit a grand slam to end it… At least would’ve done something to make Bennett’s ERA resemble the way he’s pitched…..the guy just BAAAAAD…is Wren Blind or something??? He cannot throw strikes consistently…not even Ankiel in his days..
ncbravesgirl–i’m with you on! i want an answer too. i’ll bet jurrjens would like one as well. let’s say soriano was in fact not gonna pitch tonight. okay, you still have parr and carlyle in the ‘pen for with 2 outs and runners at lst & 2nd. you get bennett outta there! why play the first 9 innings if you arent gonna play to win in extra innings. and with jo-jo reyes pitching tomorrow?! yeah that one’s on cox.
How Does Jeff Bennet keep a job? He might be the nicest guy in the world I don’t know but I have never seen him do anything that shows me he should be on the major league level. I really can’t blame him this is just the Braves being stupid. The worst pitcher at Gwinnett couldn’t be any worse and we have some guys down there that I know are better. Wake Up Frank Wren and do some cutting and some calling up.
Bennett is the kind of player a small market team can afford. That’s why he’s on the braves. No matter what happens tomorrow the Mets will lead the head to head battle. good night all you tabacco chewing, grit eating, overall wearing rednecks…….LETS GO METS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It’s great that the Mets can get those kinds of calls in the 9th inning. After-all, a team with such poor starting pitching deserves a break somewhere, right?
The good news for the Braves is that Jo-Jo is pitching tomorrow.
Losing a lead of 10 to 3 is a loss you will remember. Losing late in a close game is baseball.
However, the Braves need to consider replacing Bennett. It’s becoming obvious, as it had with with Boyer, that Bennett is not a pressure player.
Well, tonight BOBBY’s an idiot and should be replaced. PLU-E-E-Z-Z-E!!! BENNETT’s a bum and we should bring up ACOSTA. Gimme a break. 162 games fans, 162 games. Play ‘um one at a time.
you know whats so bad about that? beltran was never going to swing. he is a choke artist himself. when is the last time beltran has even lifted the bat off his shoulders with two strikes and the game on the line? never…..
I normally try to keep it positive. But I’ve been a skeptic of Bennet since last year and it looks like he still sucks. Why the hell is this guy still here, lol, I mean it’s not just tonight, he’s been pathetic all season.
Lets hope this isnt the start of something bad. This is the kind of tough luck loss that can start a slide. And having Jo Jo going out there tomorrow doesn’t make me feel that good about tomorrow.
When will Bobby figure out that you dont close with Gonzo in a must win game, and dont put Bennett in when the game is on the line? If I were JJ I would ask for a trade heck they cant score for him to begin with and they cant save it for him either. The Bobby Cox magic with the retread bullpen has ran out. There is a reason that Bennett couldn’t stick with the Brewers….. He SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I agree bring up Medlen and Hanson, they cant be any worse than JoJo and Bennett, probably alot cheaper too!
Feels a little like the third game of the season against Philly. On the road, game in the bag with an opportunity to make a huge statement with the win and then…. UGH! We lost 7 of 11 following that one and having Jojo go tomorrow to pull out a series we should of already had wrapped up in is a little disconcerting.
bgvt Only problem is, the Braves DID have the lead in the 9th, and instead of bringing in Soriano to face Beltran, Wright, and whoever, we had Gonzalez facing 3 right handed batters. Bobby Cox blew this game big time.
RA, actually you can blame the umps for this one.. not even the umps..just one ump.. the game was over had the ump at 3rd got that call right.. instead he blew it and the game went on to extra innings where the home team wins 80% of the time
Sadly, I’m not too upset tonight because I like some others could see this coming from a mile away w/ the bad umpiring calls and the questionable managing by Cox…
Really, is it any surprise anymore that Kelly Johnson is a terrible leadoff hitter or that Jeff Francoeur is never going to get any better or that Peter Moylan should never come in to face RHH or that Jeff Bennett is an abbreviation for let’s walk the ballpark?
The answers to all of those should probably be “no” (if you have any idea as to whats going on).
BTW…Mets fans…don’t get too excited about the win…the combination of the 3b umpire, Bobby Cox, Jeff Bennett, and Jeff Francoeur gave this one away.
and will knock mccann and gonzales for this though.. you have beltran 0-2 and u throw a slider. and he doubles.. yes he was out but then he has castillo 1-2 and he throws a slider.. castillo is weak and cant hit fastballs and he decides to give him a pitch he could do something with.. and now tommorrow we will have 0-17 jo jo reyes goin .. heres the prediction and our record 16-18 and we get beat… but just stupid management again by our fearless gutless manager..
David, there’s no such thing as “home field officiating.” These guys rotate to different ballparks, calling games for different teams throughout the season. No umpires are assigned to a team….

I normally try to keep it positive. But I’ve been a skeptic of Bennet since last year and it looks like he still sucks. Why the hell is this guy still here, lol, I mean it’s not just tonight, he’s been pathetic all season.
