Phillips got all over Chipper for “giving out the scouting report on Schafer last week.” Said if he was in the other dugout, he would’ve said “thank you very much” for that.
If the scouts didn’t pick up on the hole in Schafer’s swing before Chipper made it “public” then I think MLB is in dire need of some new scouts.

I read a stat the other day..that even though Santana has been lights out he hasn’t gone more than 7 in any game…with Putz and K-Rod you shouldn’t have to but if you ain’t got a high pitch count why come out?

could there be 3 bigger mets homers in the broadcast booth tonight? nevermind the fact that just about hitter in the lineup has hit santana hard including the pitcher, they have to belittle that by claiming the only “clean hit” of the 5 so far tonight was by lowe and how unlucky poor santana is.

What his pitch count after 3? Cant really get too mad at our guys for not scoring more than one. Other than Greinke no one is pitching better than Santana. Just hope they can drive up the pitch count and get him out, even though the Mets have a great pen. Maybe we will win another 1-0.

I a unable to watch the game in tv, but I am watching it on game cast. Are these called strikes that Santana is getting being gifted by the ump. They are showing as being outside or inside too much.

Will everyone calm down about ESPN loving the Mets. Back when the Braves used to be on top of the division they talked about how great and remarkable the Braves were. If you were another team it would make you sick too.

All ESPN broadcasts are miserable. And I can’t say this is worse than Sunday Night Baseball with Joe Morgan and Steve Phillips, but this is pretty close. Last night, Joe Morgan reminded us that Kevin Youkilis isn’t just hitting .393, but a “hard” .393. What an idiot.

WTF are we doing all of a sudden. The first 2 innings we get Santana up to 44 pitches. Last inning he threw 7 pitches, and we swung at ALL of them except one. Its like these guys forget themselves and whats working between innings.

Over the course of a career, I’d say yeah, it has. You can’t shame players into hitting a slider or throwing strikes. At least, that’s my view (and apparently Bobby’s). Don’t want to debate it all night, though, so you can have the last word.

.393 is .393. We’re more than a month into the season. You don’t sustain a .393 average on infield singles and bloops, especially someone like Youkilis, who while he doesn’t run poorly, is no speedster.

PWH while Chipper didnt sustain the .393 with singles last year he did pretty good with all the singles and bloops. Didnt Tony Gwynn hit .393 in 94? He was pretty much a singles hitter.
