Why does Cox keep putting GA in the cleanup spot?? How many 3 hoppers to 2B can he stand seeing (yesterday not withstanding)?
Usually when Chipper gives it a go when he’s 50-50 he winds up missing 4-5 more games.
Have to sit him when hes not fully healthy otherwise we lose the key piece of an already weak offense.
May 11th, 20094:47 pm
Pooint being we always sit him for several days to avoid making it worse. Then come late September he’s still missed 40 games. So…..
May 11th, 20094:48 pm
I personally love to watch Jair pitch because he seems to have a plan against each batter. I see a little of MadDog in approach. I know he is not there yet but maybe some day. Also love where the Braves are for the future with their pitching, a lot of trade pieces.
Macon Braves (RIP)
Duke–Is that the lineup you want to see, or is that the actual lineup? If that’s the actual lineup, I’m surprised Diaz isn’t in there somewhere since he’s had the most sucess against Santana as I mentioned earlier.
Chipper “Ironman” Jones sidelined? Or maybe not. Stop the presses.
Let’s not forget that Hudson is slated to return in August. If his arm is ready, he moves into the 5th spot in the rotation.
May 11th, 20094:49 pm
I like it when Infante is in the line-up in a spot other than 2B because only then will Booby Cox move KJ down in the line-up (which is where he belongs).
DOB do we have a lineup yet?
May 11th, 20094:50 pm
May 11th, 2009
I heard that Medlen and Lillibridge got in a fight last year, before Lilli was traded.
No one was hurt.
Is that because Medlen couldn’t reach him and Lillibridge could not hit anything anyhow?
Renegator–I like Infante in the lineup as well….except when Santana is pitching, dude is 2 for 24 career against him.
If there’s ever a series where Jordan Schafer needs to start, it’s here. No way do I want Infante starting in that huge outfield at Citi. No freakin’ way…
May 11th, 20094:51 pm
’m not really negative, more like realistic….with an occasional flair of anger/negativity during games (MF04)
you’re kidding right? You are one of the most negative, angriest posters on the board. All anybody has to do is read through the posts during a losing game to know that. Unbelievable that you could say that without being struck by lightning, dude
May 11th, 20094:53 pm
game over in Gwinnett 4-0. Medlen moves to 5-0. Gwinnett only has 14 wins and Medlen has 5 of them wow.
May 11th, 20094:54 pm
nolie—(and I’m whispering here) dude, don’t you know your poking a tiger with a stick right now 8-0
If Hudson is back in August you might as well push Soriano to 7th inning Gonzalez to 8th inning and Hanson to closer.
vabravesfan I may mess up the spelling buy I didn’t mess up his pitching.
May 11th, 20094:55 pm
crap, I was trying to use one of the emoticons and struck out with it
well, better late than never
May 11th, 20094:56 pm
I’m with you CB, I love to watch Jair pitch, was just giving you sh!t for spelling his name wrong.
Macon Braves (RIP)
I’m definitely with you on how the trolls and the dopplegangers can keep the good bloggers away.
It is no fun having to put up with obnoxious Met fans or idiots ripping off respected blogger’s monikers.
I think DOB and Carroll run a tight ship on this ole blog!
May 11th, 20094:57 pm
How pitiful is it when Martine Prado is your #3 hitter?! The lowly Braves will get swept! Our boy Santana will carve up that minor league lineup like nobodys business. Chumper wasnt hittin when he was in there so I guess it don’t matter much, but its just weaker without him in there. This will be so joyful watching my Mets absolutley DESTROY this embarrassment of a team you call the braves!!! LETS GO METS….LETS GO METS!!!!!!!!
Oh, man, Omar gets his running in tonight, for sure, LOL. I guess Bobby thinks nobody will be able to elevate Lowe (which might be right) and Schafer can certainly use a day off. Johan ain’t exactly the recipe for slump-busting, either. Pick your poison, I reckon.
May 11th, 20094:58 pm
Ok, maybe not a tiger……mean alleycat or something??
the fact that this is the best sports blog (along with other great topics) going keeps me coming back eventually.
I agree, theres no better source for Braves info than DOB and Carroll, and the fact that they cover it darn near 24 hours a day is above and beyond anyone’s expectations. I doubt anyone has stopped reading the blog, but probably some of the oldies (and I’ve only been on this regularly about 2 yrs myself) are just reading the blog and scrolling the comments for DOB’s updates. It’s the easiest thing to do when you’re busy or when the Braves are playing the always classy Mets and Phillies.
Well, I mean DOB’s good about cleaning up unneccesary comments like one inparticular. But don’t want to say the name for fear of stirring up a hornet’s nest in case they were to re-infest the blog again…
May 11th, 20094:59 pm
Where did that lineup come from?
May 11th, 20095:00 pm
RHR—could not agree with you more. I hardly ever post, but am always reading to catch up with anything I missed, and this is the best place for me to loook, not to mention a good place to get a laugh or 2.
Necromancers—Speak of the devil….we mention Trolls, obnoxious Mutt fans, and dopplegangers (you gotta fill me in on that one cause I got no clue friend) and a minute after your post hits……Troll siting!!
MFin04 (The Hopeless Romantic)
JJ is my favorite pitcher to watch as well, D Lowe hasn’t been as “clean” in some of the innings he has pitched. It also amazes me how he doesn’t fold under pressure being as young as he is. Pitches out of jams wonderfully when he gets in them and pitches well even if there is no run support.
ertainly the best one who could also be mistaken for a Hobbit, LOL. (SCOOTS)
oh c’mon now, his feet aren’t that hairy.
May 11th, 20095:02 pm
That isn’t the lineup. That is just what he wants or thinks it will be. DOB just posted a short tid bit about Chipper not playing and Prado batting 3rd tonight.
May 11th, 20095:03 pm
I like negative, angry posters. People will never drive me away from the blog. After all, DOB gives me the Braves updates and music I need to get through yet another soul-crushing day in this barren landscape of sorrowful isolation that I, with tears in my eyes, so mockingly call life.
Anyway, I like the negative and angry posters. I need them to balance out my positivity.
May 11th, 20095:04 pm
A little birdy even told me that your own beat writer is picking my Mets to win this division. How sad and how pitiful is it that this awful team don’t even get picked by the guy who makes a living writing for them??!! Cellar dwellers is where these jokes have been for the last 3 years and where they will stay. My Mets are ruling this division so get used to it!!! LETS GO METS!!!!!!!
GUYS the last thing DOB posted was he was going down to see how Chipper is..he hasn’t said anything about the lineup, which probably means he’s still in the clubhouse.
I predict that KJ will start since Infante has such bad numbers versus Santana but will be interesting if Cox goes with Matty or GA who is starting to come around with the bat
Piedmont Blues (formerly BravesFan InRockies)
May 11th, 20095:05 pm
I don’t particularly care what the batting order is. If the OF is GA, Infante, and Francoeur, we’d better hope and pray Lowe’s sinker is diving. With that crew playing defense, any ball hit to the OF could be extra bases.
The Mets have really begun to run a lot since the weather started to warm up. How is Lowe against the SB?
Also, the Mets hit the opposite way – a lot. Manuel put a drill together where they see 80 or 90 consecutive curve balls and outside pitches that they have to hit the other way. They started it in ST and some still do it now. They have become very proficient up and down the lineup at hitting the other way from this. Delgado has really benefited from it.
Just sharing what you might see tonight.
May 11th, 20095:06 pm
My Mets are ruling this division so get used to it!!!
At least until September…
I’m thinking you want your best defense in there tonight for a pitchers duel. Omar will be at 2nd, Schafer in center, IMO.
May 11th, 20095:07 pm
Chipper hurt again? Does anyone besides me think Chipper should refund the Braves for all his missed games (more every year). I think we should do him (and the Braves) a favor and trade him to an AL contending team where he can actually earn his salary as a DH, extend his career, and perhaps win a world series. The Braves should be able to get good prospects and a starter, which we sorely need. I see this as a win-win situation for everybody. What’s fair about making him a part-time player for the same team for his entire career, or, does he just enjoy playing for the poorest excuse for a major league manager who demands the same from his players as he does himself…NOTHING (but a paycheck). Fire Bobby before he explodes in the dugout. I like Bobby; no one can mine that left nostril any better.
Chipper is not playing tonight, Prado at 3B.
That just shows that our Beatwriter is NOT biased like alot of other teams. I listened to the philies on the XM and the Philies announcers we praising the Howards defense, It has improved but seriusly is below average!
May 11th, 20095:08 pm
Santana is probably laughing his butt off when he sees the lineup he will face tonight. We will sweep you losers….. FAAAAGEEEETABOUTIT!!!
May 11th, 20095:09 pm
Hey vabravesfan I was raised in VA what did you expect? lol Hey you guys quit picking on short guys, we’re all cute and cuddly.
sorry I meant in the blog….but one quick question…out of everyone in the lineup why in heavens name would Prado bat 3rd?
Woogidy not if Infante is hitting .095 versus Santana while KJ is hitting .429 against Santana
No offense to anyone, but I really am so sick and tired of hearing about the minor leaguers. It really is starting to turn into a college football board, where everyone says the guys on campus suck, but all the recruits are the greatest, then the recruits get on campus and everyone thinks they suck too, but think the new recruits are even greater than the old recruits were.
Tell me when they’re K’n 9 per 9 in the majors, or OPS’n .800 in the bigs. ‘Til then I really don’t care to hear much about ‘em. I’ll just presume they suck even worse than the guys at the Ted, ’cause if they didn’t, they’d be the guys at the Ted, not the guys currently stinkin’ up the Ted
May 11th, 20095:10 pm
“I estimate at near zero the possibility of both Hernandez and Schafer playing in the same OF.”ncscoots(9:14)
I respect your opinion, and I know you don’t throw anything out here, without thinking about it first. I’m curious as to why you don’t think this will ever happen.
BTW, what the heck are “numbletards”? I even asked Mr. Webster and he said, “HUH?”. My best guess would be, if a NUMBskull, married a nimBLE reTARD, they would produce “numbletards”. Am I close?
May 11th, 20095:12 pm
Willy Wally you don’t have to read anything you don’t want to. If it is talking about minor leaguers then skip over the post. Nobody makes you read those posts and nobody is going to stop talking about them because you don’t like them
ATrueMetFan, you guys ruling the division? seriously dude you all choke it away every september…no one fears the Mets, get used to it!
May 11th, 20095:13 pm
DOB, has not said it yet, BUT ESPN JUST DID, “chipper jones is out of the lneup”
We’re better off with Prado at 3B than with Chipper trying to play when he can’t get full extension on his swing and won’t play better defense than Prado. On paper there is less power in the lineup, but that’s on paper. Chipper has not provided any more power than Prado this season with his various injuries.
May 11th, 20095:16 pm
Buzzmeat read the comments DOB posted a tidbit at least 30 minutes ago that is up on the site about Chip not playing.
WillyWally people post the things about minor leaguers because those guys are the future of the organization. Get over it dude.
May 11th, 20095:17 pm
Its hilarious about some of the comments on here sometimes. Trade Vasquez? Hanson at closer when Hudson comes back?
May 11th, 20095:18 pm
A doppelganger is a look alike or a cheap fascimile of someone…like some of those stooges or maybe the same stooge who was posting as our usual bloggers.
With these Mets trolls, they just try to get a rise out of us. In all reality, they are bigger chokers than the Buffalo Bills back in the day.
May 11th, 20095:19 pm
I’m with you guys on having better Defense @ 3rd over having Chipper play tonight.
May 11th, 20095:20 pm
cabravesfan— LOL @ 5:06
If Chipper is out of the lineups for sure WHY are the lineups still not out yet?
The Real Don Steele
Santanna’s problem so far is that he can’t beat the Braves. 0-3 against Atlanta. If K’s were a major factor for a starter, neither Maddux nor Glavine would have been successful. Neither one was or is considered a “strike-out” pitcher.
May 11th, 20095:21 pm
I’m with you guys on having better Defense @ 3rd over having Chipper play tonight. (bravos2249)
Me too. And tomorrow night and Wednesday afternoon. Let Chipper get all healed up.
May 11th, 20095:22 pm
vabravesfan, I’ve been hearing about these minor leaguers on this board since this blog got started. Since the inception of this blog about four seasons ago, only two minor leaguers have ever fulfilled their promise: Yunel Escobar and Martin Prado. Nevertheless, folks have blathered on and on and on every year about how great the minor leaguers are. I’m over it. Until they do something in the majors, I really don’t care to hear about ‘em. Come up, put up, or shut up.
they might be out but since reporters are still down in clubhouse they haven’t been able to post them yet
May 11th, 20095:23 pm
I am getting tired of Chippers old A$$ all ways out of games he needs to stop B******* and play.
Have you seen the dimensions at Citi Field? And Schafer on the bench? I doubt it. I am fine with it either way. I think it’s a push. Omar may get a couple hits playing center tonight, but Schafer might save a couple bases in the outfield. As far as Kelly playing second, I don’t know if Bobby looks at those BAA numbers, but either way there too. We’ll see. I am pumped for this game tonight to be sure though.
May 11th, 20095:24 pm
WillyWally people post the things about minor leaguers because those guys are the future of the organization. Get over it dude. (Schafer’s Wafers)
Yeah, been hearing about your boy being “the future” for years. The future what? The future first guy ever to K 200 times without even getting double digit homers?
Word is the Mets are going to present McCann with a Red Rider BB gun. Kind of completes the package.
May 11th, 20095:25 pm
willy wally…ever hear of brian mccann or jeff francoeur?
For the millionth time, the lineup gets posted when DOB gets back from the clubhouse. I’m sure it’s up as DOB filed an article about Prado batting 3rd/Chipper out, but DOB won’t do blog or lineup updates in the clubhouse. If the lineup isn’t in the pressbox before he heads down to the clubhouse, then it will be posted when he gets back. Simple as that. Be patient.
bravos2249 DOB is not here to satisfy your every whim. You will get the lineup before the game starts. Calm down.
May 11th, 20095:26 pm
I’m with you, Willy Wally.
I have fantasy teams to satisfy my micromanaging bent. I know about our prospects, but I’ll be damned if I care about their mechanics, how they’re doing in High-A ball, their ETA for the bigs, etc. That’s loser talk. I care about the big club. If the big club doesn’t win enough, what good is it to have all these wonderful kids who aren’t helping the big club win on a daily basis? I mainly see prospects as trade bait for guys to help us win. I trust that Wren isn’t stupid enough to get his clock cleaned in trades. I’ll leave it to him to prove me right or wrong, but it’s awfully presumptuous to project the future of this team when nearly anything can happen to derail minor league prospects.
I point to the Baby Braves of ‘05 and say, “This is a prime example of why I am skeptical.” If a fan wants to say that the last three years have been a product of bad luck, that is fine. That’s simply inconceivable to me, but whatever gets ya through, right?
May 11th, 20095:27 pm
How ’bout Beltran’s numbers vs. Lowe. 3 for 23 with 3 singles. That should be fun to watch tonight, cause he’s on fire.
Cox isn’t playing Schafer because he’s afraid he’ll run right into the new damn apple when he goes on one of those border collie romps after a fly ball over his head.
May 11th, 20095:28 pm
DOB’s fattening up at the old Shake Shack in CF.
willy wally…ever hear of brian mccann or jeff francoeur? (VABRAVESFAN)
Goober, they were already up.
Prado better defense than chipper? lol yeah. No.
Hi It’s only the truth my friend…plus I am in no mood today to deal with mets fans jumping on the blog bragging about the dominance of a team that has won exactly the same number of play off games as the Braves have over the last 2 years
Do you even like this team. I mean yes Schafer is struggling at the plate. But he leads the team in BB, has a high obp. Plays good defense. Yes we are spoiled at the D Andruw played for 10 years but guess what there is no one in the game today who can go and get it like Druw did. IMO the kid is doing what he is asked to do. come play CF dont make mistakes defensively. Whatever he does offensively is a plus. Thats what bobby wants from him.
Eric from MO
May 11th, 20095:29 pm
Buzzmeat the reason the trade Vazquez idea is because our 2010 rotation currently will consist of JJ, Lowe, Vazquez, Hudson(as long as they pick up his contract, 13 mil is reasonable if he put up his numbers of old in august and Sep), Hanson, and Kawakami. Vazquez makes the most sense. He is a FA after the 2010 year and will probably get more in return than Hudson and Kawakami if Vazquez continues to put up the same numbers this year. They may decide to keep him but I wouldnt be suprised either way.
Steve from OH
Chop Chop, then isn’t it good that we have lots of good players that other major league teams would seemingly want in a trade?
May 11th, 20095:30 pm
Thanks Anders. Cant wait to see alot of weak rollers and fly balls hit the other way.
I don’t want to feel the wrath of an angry Scot so I’ll not respond to Willy Wally’s blasphemy!
May 11th, 20095:32 pm
Have you seen the dimensions at Citi Field? And Schafer on the bench? — Woogidy
Hopefully, Lowe will be on his game tonight and induce a lot of grounders.
Hi. I’m new here. And before I post any more, just hoping that Willy Wally will post a list of topics he deems acceptable for consumption here. I don’t want to post anything that he doesn’t care about or that will offend his delicate sensibilities. Thank you.
Shane – You’ve been warned. Enjoy.
May 11th, 20095:34 pm
Diaz is in left field. Prado at third base, batting third.
Chipper can pinch-hit tonight if needed, hopes to play tomorrow. Has some fluid buildup in the elbow from the hyperextension, something that’s happened to him many times in past, he said, because of the way he swings, when he lets the top hand go and extended that front arm.
He treated it three times today. Said if it’s not any better tomorrow he’ll get a shot and be out a little longer, but that’s a last resort. Sounded like he thinks he’ll play tomorrow.
Wow . A warning from the big bad Mets. Yawn. We own you guys
Tom O’Hawke your right, but I don’t believe Bobby manages on “hopefullys”. I’d bet money on him playing center, and striking out 3 times.
Well, enjoy the game folks. Should be a good one.
Um…Francouer was projected to be a future MVP and a perenial all-star. He is far from either. He is at best average.
May 11th, 20095:35 pm
haha at Blog Newbie at 5:32
May 11th, 20095:36 pm
Look at that picture of Chipper Jones they got on the sight today. Look at it!
I don’t trust a fella that’s got a beard (a scraggly chin thing) and no moustache. That’s not right. He looks like a damn communist is what he looks like. And my daddy fought the communists and they tried to kill him.
So I don’t care about some communist looking baseball player. Why doesn’t he just move to New York. Or better yet, to Cuba. I hear they still got some communists down in cuba. Maybe Castro will congratulate him on his fine communist beard.
May 11th, 20095:37 pm
Glavine plans to do a simulated two or three innings on Wednesday, and if that goes well he could make a rehab start as soon as Monday. He thinks he’ll probably need two rehab starts, could be back for Braves around the San Fran series May 25-27 if all goes well.
He said he’s about 75-85 percent confident that he’ll make it back. He was candid, honest, and upbeat. Sounds like he’s accepted he might not make it back, but he said he feels good and his session Monday in Philly buoyed his confidence more, especially that Roger and Bobby both felt as good about it as he did.
A young man named Dave received a parrot as a gift. The parrot had a bad attitude and an even worse vocabulary. Every word out of the bird’s mouth was rude, obnoxious and laced with profanity. Dave tried and tried to change the bird’s attitude by consistently saying only polite words, playing soft music and anything else he could think of to “clean up” the bird’s vocabulary. Finally, Dave was fed up and he yelled at the parrot. The parrot yelled back. Dave shook the parrot and the parrot got angrier and even ruder. Dave, in desperation, threw up his hands, grabbed the bird and put him in the freezer. For a few minutes the parrot squawked and kicked and screamed. Then suddenly there was total quiet. Not a peep was heard for over a minute. Fearing that he’d hurt the parrot, Dave quickly opened the door to the freezer. The parrot calmly stepped out onto Dave’s outstretched arms and said, “I believe I may have offended you with my rude language and actions. I’m sincerely remorseful for my inappropriate transgressions and I fully intend to do everything I can to correct my rude and unforgivable behavior.” Dave was stunned at the change in the bird’s attitude. As he was about to ask the parrot what had made such a dramatic change in his behavior, the bird continued, “May I ask what the turkey did?”
lineup and CB
Obviously neither of you read my 5:04 post which stated DOB was probably still in the clubhouse. If either of you actually read peoples statements before you rip into them maybe you would get along with people better. But as I’ll put it I look at various media outlets for the lineups not just DOB. Unlike you two apparently. I was simply stating that if Chipper was the only probable cause why hadn’t any lineup been given out. I check USA Today, SI.com, MLB.com , etc. So next time before you rip into someone who actually appreciates what DOB does please read why previous post. Thank You.
Did too, did too. I’m telling…
Scafers Wafers have you watched the games? I can recall over 10 times this year Schafer has tried to catch a ball he should of taken off the wall. I honestly dont know how many more mistakes he could make.
eric remember he is still young.
