Why did we pinch hit for kelly? He;s crushed the ball today, and has hit lefties better. Not to mention you save the bench for a close game that could go extras. And next time through the order, infante will see a righty. That move made 0 sense.

MFin04, BC doesn’t pay attention to who is hitting what vs. lefties or righties. He always believes you’re better off with a right-handed hitter against a lefty. No matter what the numbers say. That’s one area where Bobby can’t be bothered with the facts.

Chipper flops again. At his current pace, if he gets 500 at-bats this year, he’ll fall short of 20 homers and short of 70 RBI. Wow.

It’s not all Chipper’s fault. He hasn’t had protection in the lineup for most of the young season… but you can’t absolve him of all responsibility. And certainly not in this series.

This year: .321/.424/.643 (28 at-bats)

2008: .333/.366/.433 (150 at-bats)

Johnson has been so much better against lefties this year too.

I’m starting to think Cox doesn’t look at stats at all.

Joe and Boog are making excuses for Francouer’s poor approach at the plate in Philly. Hitters tend to swing for the closer fences.

It appears that he did listen regarding swinging at the first pitch. This last at bat was a little more credible even though it ended with a fly ball to left center.

A win today would be huge because facing Santana means trouble tomorrow. Lowe can’t pitch any less than he did opening night to give us a possible win. We’ve hit Santana well in the past, so he’s due for a bad outing, but I don’t know.

“One run isn’t going to be enough in this park with our bullpen.”

Good Point, The Blow-en will blow a 1-run lead easily in this ballpark, we needed to get more out of that Inning…

This team wins (occasionally) in spite of Cox’s stewardship, not because of it. Seriously, gents, when was the last time he made a managerial move in a critical situation that resulted in success? A hit and run, a double switch, an unorthodox line-up card, bunting etc. This goes all the way back to Charlie Leibrandt against the Twins and then against the Jays. Cox was so protected by the golden arms in his arsenal. I would have loved to see his won/lost record if he had been managing the Pirates for the last 17 years.

Also, I can’t believe people are moaning about Chipper, but giving Francoeur a pass. Despite his rise in average, Francouer is showing a total inability to get on base, and doesn’t have the power to make it ok. Time to start hoping Heyward can break out of his funk and be the future RF option for this team.

Eric O’Flaherty is looking very impressive lately. Interesting stat on TBS earlier…before April 18th, the bullpen had an ERA of 7.something, and after April 18th, it’s in the 1.80s. Not bad.

abwright

It looked like KK would get upset whenever he got hit hard and start to get wild. Today, he seemed to settle in faster on those hard hits by Howard and limit the damage. Even though it wasn’t a great outing (the Philthies helped him out by swinging at stuff out of the zone), he was very sharp at times. 2 runs in 6 against the Phithies in Philthy is a start to hang your hat on.

I doubt that 3 runs is going to do it for the Braves today, though, as there are a lot of outs left against a tough line up.

O’Floogy gets out of the 7th against the top of the order 1-2-3 with a good pay by Kotchman at first.

Hope Gonzo and Soriano bring their A+ game today. But the Braves could make this an uninteresting contest with a 5 run outburst in the eighth.
