Agreed. BTW, I will be going to a different name. I am using the same name as someone else, so out of respect, I will simply change.
Lastly, with this Braves team it is going to take contributions from all 25 guys on the roster to have an ultimately successful season. We have to exhaust all of our resources. Here’s to us continuing a good road trip and hopefully getting at least two of three from both Philly and the Mets! Go Braves.
The ideal solution would be to let Heap DH in all the interleague road games. With occasional days off during the remainder of the schedule, that should still keep him away from catching for 30 or so games (so his legs are fresher) while keeping his bat in the lineup for 145+ games.
Of course, Chipper will probably need to DH some of those games. Or GA. Or Norton. Dang.
If and When this team’s bats get going and we get everyone healthy and in the lineup this team really could be dangerous offensively. Garret Anderson really is a good hitter he has shown it in everyone of his ABs since coming of the DL. Kotchman, who isn’t a 4 or 5 hitter, is a darn good 6/7 hitter who is batting .300. KJ and Schafer are going to have ups and downs, but their speed and ability to get on base should help this team when they are hot. Chipper, McCann, and Frenchy being themselves and this team is darn good.
That is you build the team around a powerful 4 hole hitter [McCann] and get him as many at bats as possible.
Except that McCann hasn’t proven himself to be such a beast. He hasn’t hit 30 dingers in a year, and his HR rate doesn’t say that he would muster much more than that with an extra 15 games.
He’s a plus offensive catcher, but he wouldn’t be a plus offensive 1B, even were he athletic enough to make the switch. You would just be exchanging holes, and that’s no way to run a railroad.
Thanks for the new Blog and the lineup, Chief! Batting fifth? YES!! That rocks. Two more hours!!!
Choppinmama–
For sure! Yeah, when he was getting closer to me, he said he could just sign a few more ’cause he needed to go warm up. So I stuck my baseball out a little further…haha, he had no trouble seeing it!
Yeah, some people wanna move him to first, but the Braves don’t give the impression that they wanna do it, and that’s what counts.
BMac’s defense looked good last night (um…but he did allow 2 WP–but he wasn’t wearing his glasses at that point…). He threw a bullet to nab Pete Orr at second base (wish I’da gotten a photo of that!).
OK, gotta go finish gettin’ the photos up on PhotoBucket.
We have finally the lineup that is close to our best. It is time to see who we are. Our best hope this year is for this team to be aggressive every opportunity given. Let’s play some Billy Ball!lol
what if jojo is soso do we have enough to pull it out tonight against hamels(sorry if im gettin carried away with the jojo rhymes cant help it its addictive)
Someone mentioned Lisa Loeb on the bloggage, funny cause the mutt and I walked literally right into her at the vet’s office today….. hadn’t thought about her in 10+ years and now twice today … anyway
Maybe that means the Braves will return to 1999 form
DOBi One Knobi – to make up for your disaster today, go down to Chinatown tomorrow as they have excellent “Dimsum” in Philly… I will see if I can find the card of the restaurant we always go to there …
Haha…that’s OK. I don’t even know how the whole “Chief” thing got started…I just kinda called him that one day. I asked him if he minded, and he never said “no”, so it sorta stuck.
Interested Observer, as a matter of fact I just talked to Mac about the glasses and getting another pair. They ordered another pair that’ll be in next week. Wanted to see how these did first, but now they’ve ordered another pair, so that he’ll have one to hit in and one to catch in, so if they get smeared like the lens did last night when he went to take the mask off while covering first base, he’ll have the other pair and not have to worry about rinsing them off, etc.
And he’s got a pair of tinted lenses for day games, has those already here.
As for permanency of the solution, he’ll wait till end of season and reassess, see how he does with glasses, etc. But when I asked him how good it felt to not have dry eye, he acted as if the weight of the world was off his shoulders.
Dogsbrekky, we have a 3:40 start tomorrow. Means I’ll be leaving for the ballpark about about noon or slightly earlier. So won’t be going to Chinatown.
I think Mac really made a big mistake. In all this time he could have
had Lasik and recovered already rather than dealing with the problems of glasses all year.
Ready or not?
Braves did exactly what they insisted they would not do. They rushed Schafer, who is clearly not ready for the show. With AAA just down the road starting him in Gwinnett was a no brainier, regardless of spring training results, which are tremendously overrated.
Ready or not (part II)
G. Anderson raised some eyebrows by refusing a rehab assignment, even though it only required him to drive across town. For someone who missed almost of all spring training and then most of the first month of the season, this seemed rather strange.
Once the BRAVES are firing on all eight, the division is up for grabs. METS, FILTHIES, FISH and BRAVES will keep splitting games between themselves. Whoever dominates the NATIONALS, and has a solid record against the rest of the NL/AL will win the division.
AP photographers have nothing on you. Execellent shots of the new stadium and that action shot on the play at the plate was money. Also noticed that Bob Uckers seats were empty. They’re right next to mine.
N8…I once again agree with your reasoning and logic to move B-Mac over to 1B (if he would agree to it and the Braves front office sees fit to do so) next season.
His bat is way too valuable to sit out 40-45 games per year. Think about this…what if you lose the division by 3-4 games? Maybe that’s all it takes, have B-Mac in there on a more regular basis, maybe that makes the differnce?
I still think Chipper is our best and most feared hitter, but B-Mac is 2nd (when he’s healthy) on the list.
Like DOB pointed out in the stats, Ross is a capable catcher who can be your number 1 catcher on a more balanced offensive team. Still, Ross has a lot of power (as we saw in FLA, with the BLUE SEATER:) ) and Braves need all the power they can get. Not getting it from 1B (Sorry LEW, but it is a BIG fraking deal, b/c that is a power position and Braves need HR production from somewhere).
Glad to see Omar in there, but not sure Schafer…maybe he should have been given the day off, Tough Lefty on the mound…I would have preferred to see Omar in CF, and Kelly hitting 7th again, seems for whatever reason to hit Lefties much better this year.
Oh well, I guess we’ll see. Win the game, and we were wrong. Lose, Bobby doesn’t know what he’s talking about and should have changed the lineup!:)
Man, I hope we beat the Phillies…gotta send a MSG that this Braves team isn’t going away yet. Not just yet:)
OK I’m not expecting wins but Phillies starers have a combined 6.60 era with a .320 BAA and have given up more runs than they have K’s. We should have good chances to score…maybe not tonight…but we should be able to score.
It’s amazing how this blog turns from doom and gloom to excitement with a couple of wins. Remember, it is a long season. Momentum is as good as the next day’s starting pitcher. Mmm…who’s pitching tomorrow?
You mean Carlos Lee? He’s not good as well defensively but hey if they give as much effort as Diaz or Anderson or somewhere in btw or they flat out suck who cares? If they can drive in 100 runs it doesn’t really matter.
Bill James posted his plus/minus defensive rankings (runs saved above average), here are some interesting one:
Jeff Francoeur: -1
Jordan Schafer: -1
Kelly Johnson: -1
Chipper Jones: -4
Chipper has this far been the worst on the team. And for all the complaining about KJ’s bad defense and Schafer and Francoeur’s alleged good defense; those three have been of equal worth this year defensively.
For those asking about the Braves being on FOX the Red Sox and Rays play tomorrow so I’m guessing majority of the USA will get that game. But just to give everyone some hope.
BRAVES NEXT 3 DAYS.
SAT FOX
SUN TBS…Pretty neat the Braves will been shown across the USA on Mother’s Day
MON ESPN
Vazquez is pitching tomorrow. Up against a guy whose era is fricking 6. If you wanted to make a point about something you should have said “Whose pitching today?”
Thanks! Yeah, I’m really proud of that picture of the play at the plate. I’ve always wanted to take one like that.
Lovin McMuffin–
Nah, he didn’t know…but yeah, I was pretty excited. That game was just all-around fun! We haven’t been to a game when McCann actually got a hit since September, 2007.
As someone who has read The Hobbitt/LOTR well over a dozen times, I’m shocked (shocked!!!) that I never connected you to all that is evil – and I once named a dog Strider.
So… KJ with two hits yesterday, lets lefties very well… and STILL out of the line up? Anyone notice that most of Infante’s hits lately have been bloopers and also the fact that he has THREE XBHs only so far? Infante can’t carry KJ’s jock strap. I can’t WAIT until Cox is gone. He is a freaking moron.
McFann It’s a 48 channel Midas Heritage 3000 mixing desk for sound reinforcement. It’s what is hooked up to the amplifiers that push the speakers you see at a concert.
A win to kick off the weekend would be nice tonight! Lets go!!!
David O’Brien … have you spoken to KJ lately about his situation? It seems that he wont get many chances any more regardless of how well he plays when he’s in there.
DOB, we just ate a $5 pizza from Little Ceasars, so take that! Hey, my girlfriend is actually gonna watch the game tonight. Not really watch it, more like talk and ask a million different questions about what and why something just happend.
Cool. Bravos available in the RTP three straight days!
(In case you care, TimeWarner’s having a piddling match with MASN over broadcast fees for O’s/Nats games. And because we’re technically in the O’s broadcast region, all the FoxSouth Braves games are blacked out when the O’s or Nats are playing. And we don’t get to see the Nats/Braves games because MASN has the broadcast rights. Makes me want to switch back to DirecTV. Argh.)

Thats why I would have absolutely LOVED to have Jason Bay in the lineup…can you imagine a lineup w/ him protecting Chipper in it…
Of course, then again at this point, it would be more like Chipper protecting him.

And further, aren’t you getting tired of trying to force a player who plays one position into another position?
To me the Braves try this too much.
I would rather go out and get the player that you need not try to “create” a 1B from a C.
Now if you ask me who that RH 4 hole hitter IS, I guess I am not sure…Pujols maybe?

SUN TBS…Pretty neat the Braves will been shown across the USA on Mother’s Day

Vazquez is pitching tomorrow. Up against a guy whose era is fricking 6. If you wanted to make a point about something you should have said “Whose pitching today?”

Thanks! Yeah, I’m really proud of that picture of the play at the plate. I’ve always wanted to take one like that.
Lovin McMuffin–
Nah, he didn’t know…but yeah, I was pretty excited. That game was just all-around fun! We haven’t been to a game when McCann actually got a hit since September, 2007.

Here’s how to bold and italicize.
I gotta make the diagram for doing bold italics…Tom O’Hawke was asking about that the other day, I think.

Argh.)
