MFino4, Okay, guess I have to pay up. Was esco ball a homer or was it a HOMAER?
Chipper got some bad calls? How about Garret on those 2 inside pitches that Javy doesn’t seem to be getting?
I know hindsight is 20/20, but we all should’ve seen this coming from Schafer. He’s a rookie and you can’t assume rookies are going to come into the big leagues and not struggle. Plus, there’s nothing about his minor league numbers that suggest he’s ready for the big leagues. He’s not ready. And we’re going to have to continue to watch him struggle to make contact against big-league pitching. But as the old adage goes, what don’t kill you makes you stronger. And like DOB said, he’s going to be a pretty damn good player in the long-run. Instead of getting another year of seasoning at AAA under his belt, he’s doing it with the big club, where results are important. But this is the route the club chose to take and he’s going to be here for a long time, so deal with the strikeouts now and let him develop naturally. He’s a rookie.
Way to hit ESCO!!!!!!!!
Yunel Escobar, league leader with RISP at .533 (16-for-30)
May 9th, 20095:00 pm
Why is Anderson batting clean up over…well, anyone?
I got a real bad feeling this is gonna go on a long time too.
May 9th, 20095:01 pm
what makes u think Schaffer will get any better. There throwing him fastballs right down the middle and he cant hit them. Gimme a break!!!!
May 9th, 20095:02 pm
I don’t understand some of hte people on the blog who think that because we give the pitcher a quick innin (regarding the number of pitches he throws), that we are a bad team for doing that. You msut not know baseball if you think that….as the hitter, why would you take a fastball right down the middle just because you want to work the count some?? You don’t, that may be the best pitch you see all at-bat.
The hitters don’t need to be less agressive, they need to have a better mindset of what they want to do when they go to the plate so they aren’t guessing.
Actually Chop Chop, I would much rather our guys not think about it. Would rather them do what they usually do because those our some popups at our place. I mean if we hit a popup and it turns into a homerun thats cool. Contact of any kind would be good for this team.
But seriously, you thought Utley’s hit would be a home run? I seriously thought it was a popup easily. Even in that park.
May 9th, 20095:04 pm
I saw that Gonzo was in the dugout…It was only the 5th though. But is he unavailable today or do you not know?
Why is he hitting period. Should be on the bench.
Good the see the “strulging” KJ help with the offense. Watch him get benched tomorow and .167 hitting Anderson go give Chipper ZERO protection tomorow. Hell if im Chipper i ask for a raise.
My wife used to teach at the school near where Zinkhan’s body was found.
May 9th, 20095:05 pm
Wooooooeeeee!!! Way to go MY ESCO!!!!! That is MY MAN!! yes I am female and no…to whoever says he looks darker. He was standing right in front of me the other night and looks the exact same….except for those tips. What was he thinkin….
I would rather our guys load up on their back foot and swing for the fences every time in every park they play in. It’s fun to watch guys pop out to the catcher.

Some people are not watching this live, they are like an inning or 2 behind, lol.
Brian McCann finally retired for the day.
Brent..I live walking distance where the shootings took place!…Crazy stuff
May 9th, 20095:07 pm
The problems with Jim’s post at 4:34 PM is that it reads as if the blog is a single being, which can only have one opinion at any one time.
May 9th, 20095:08 pm
McCann’s eye must be bothering him. He made an out. I hope Sammons is ready to come back up because I can’t handle this “making an out” stuff.
Are you serious?
You can’t tell me swinging at every first pitch and making an out is good for the team.
May 9th, 20095:09 pm
Five pitch inning. That was planned to keep Blanton in the game longer.
MFin04, Okay I will pay up on KJ hit. I’m at work so I am not watching. Good at bat ? Approach? Double?
Oh, I know! Neither cann I!
PWH – I agree and disagree I think. I agree he’ll struggle at times. I disagree the results are important. Said it many many times, this team is just OK. Back end of rotation is bad, zero power, and zero speed. I’m happy Schafer is getting his feet wet. Now I want to see Hanson and Medlen and anyone else close in the bigs. This team has the makings of being real good ‘10-’13. Get these guys experience now in the bigs when it does not matter. Not a hater, just a realist.
May 9th, 20095:10 pm
Fox announcer says, “Jeff’s not hitting the ball with authority”…what was that lazer off the LF wall today, a bloop line drive?
Chipper brought his glove today
May 9th, 20095:11 pm
For those of you calling BC a fool and FW a retard, I would suggest you root for another team. Things ain’t changin’ anytime soon. I see a glass better than half full. BRAVES are lookin’ up to me. Meanwhile, GO ATLANTA, smack those FILTHIES maggots where it hurts.
BTW–These announcers aren’t too bright (yeah, there’s a news flash for ya…) He’s like, “That shows you how much these players know about each other; Ryan Howard knew that McCann hit two home runs on Opening Night.”
Um…Howard meant McCann hit two bombs in the series, and duh Howard knows, it was against the Fillies! Sheesh…
So in Atlanta are they playing the Braves on Fox? Just want to see if I will be able to watch it on DVR when I get back from FL. Stupid fox playing Boston.
May 9th, 20095:13 pm
Good inning for the third baseman.
Well, we’ve got this game in the bag.
David from NY
Nice fast inning there.
Seriously, can anyone think of any reason why JoJo Reyes should be on a major league roster? I heard all during spring training about how good Hanson was doing. It is past time to bring him up and get rid of Reyes. Last night should have been the last time that Reyes put on the Braves uniform.
May 9th, 20095:15 pm
Ah-h-h, these lazy broadcast announcers get a mind-set going and don’t do their homework, so they’re constantly behind the curve information-wise. You’re spoiled by DAVE and CARROLL who ALWAYS stay on top of current events. Its obvious JEFF’s hard work is beginning to pay dividends.
McFann…I was thinking the same thing about the announcers they make themselves sound like idiots. How could you not know that a guy hit 2 homers in a series against you like a month ago. i’d hope Ryan Howard had a memory that good.
OK is it Jojo or was it James that sucked against Philly but did good againts the Mets?
May 9th, 20095:16 pm
Schafer still blows. and we are trying to make their pitcher throw a complete game.
McFann, that’s what I was thinking when he said that too. Bombs usually means HR’s but not sure he was talking about homers there.
May 9th, 20095:18 pm
Got the big boys coming up for Philly. Praying for Vazquez here.
May 9th, 20095:20 pm
The ball KJ hit was fair it went over the bag fair and then landed foul.
Macon Braves (RIP)
Is it just me, or should Bobby have long since sat Schafer down for at least one game. Just give the kid a day off, let him sit in the dugout a game and watch. Infante can play CF for a game or two.
May 9th, 20095:21 pm
Yeah…if Howard couldn’t remember that, he’d be in trouble.
Oh, he was talking about homers (McCann only had one hit on Opening Night–a homer). But He didn’t mean they were hit on the same day.
Okay, first three in the rotation are good. What do you do with 4 and 5?
And o as fo line ups, Lets get Schaefer in front of Chipper to see some better pitches, and better bunting possibilities.
May 9th, 20095:22 pm
Prior to this game Javier Vazquez was tied for the Major League Lead in home runs surrendered since the beginning of 2000 (253 long balls in that span). Who was he tied with? None-other than The Accient One: Jamie Moyer. Vazquez reclaimed the lead in fourth inning. The next closest is Jeff Suppan who is now 13 homers behind Javy. Then Livan Large Hernandez who is 18 behind him. And from there it really drops off…
May 9th, 20095:23 pm
Come on Javy!!!
MFin, it doesn’t matter if it passes over the bag fair and lands foul. That is still a foul ball.
May 9th, 20095:24 pm
Tenn Paul…he also probably has the most K’s and innings pitched since then as well…you take the good with the bad.
Throughout most of his career Garret Anderson has been a cleanup hitter. Even though he doesn’t have great power, throughout his career he has had great numbers with RISP. Also, with McCann having to sit just about every 5 games, Bobby wants to have some stability in the cleanup spot. Give him till the end of May. I think he’s going to turn things around pretty soon.
It’s where it goes over the bag. not where it lands.
May 9th, 20095:25 pm
Can VASQUEZ go eight? What’s his pitch count now with one out in the seventh?
Anyone listenong to the radio notice sutton keeps calling our pitcher Javier Lopez.
May 9th, 20095:26 pm
Another sellout here, 45,339. Last night was, too.
Javy Lopez, way to have a bounce back game.
Yea Don can’t shake the Javy Lopez trap…
pitch count around 95 I believe
May 9th, 20095:27 pm
He could go one more…but what’s the point if you are supposed to have reliable guys like Moylan, Soriano, and Gonzo?
I am getting really tired of not being able to watch the Braves game on the Ticket on saturdays. They should have warned me before I forked over a few hundred bucks.
The little green and red dots indicating balls and strikes on ESPN gamecast is cute, but not very exciting.
97 pitches 61 strikes, 36 balls
May 9th, 20095:28 pm
Wow- Javy Vazquez looks outstanding
Based on spring training, lot’s of things would be different on this team. If you look at spring training stats, JoJo pitched 13 innings, had an ERA of 2.08, and only gave up 9 hits; Hanson pitched 17.2 innings, had an ERA of 4.08, and gave up 21 hits. Basically, the Braves think that JoJo can put things together and be a major league pitcher. They aren’t ready to give up on him just yet. In terms of some peripheral stats, JoJo hasn’t been that bad this year — e.g., his WHIP is 1.30 (compared to Lowe at 1.38, Jurrjens at 1.19, and Vazquez at 1.27).
Where is philly phan I thought he would be here
Although at least I don’t have to watch Schafer strike out 3 times today.
May 9th, 20095:29 pm
a643dp: “Anyone listenong to the radio notice sutton keeps calling our pitcher Javier Lopez.”
Yeah, that’s not your imagination…
Esco works the count…hits a homer…..doesnt work the count, first pitch ground out, just stupid.
it is the lower half of the order though
Hoss continues his streak.
FOX SUCKS!!! AND SO DO ALL THEIR ANNOUNCERS
Right. First touch. Say he hits a liner along the third base-line that’s 300 feet. Starts out fair over the 3B haed but hits one foot foul. Same. Has to hit the ground fair to be fair.
Ray K -go here to listen live
Whats sturlgigng? WAy to Keep the streak alive, hoss.
May 9th, 20095:30 pm
Anderson absolutely kills the ball into Werth’s glove.
Anderson just crushed that ball. tough luck, wow
Muchas gracias, amigo.
May 9th, 20095:31 pm
MFin04: No, Livan Large has the most innings pitched. Randy Johnson has the most K’s
Eesh, Barry Zito has the most walks.
Welcome back mac
So why does the KFC president talk with a distinct Australian (or is it South African) accent. Wouldnt a southern drawl be more appropriate and authentic for Kentucky Friggin Chicken.
It’s unbelievable what people say. Yunel has a curveball sitting out over the plate and he swings at it and you guys want him to just take that pitch so he can swing at strikes on the outside corners? He swings at pitches he thinks he can hit.
Just noticed the HR.Wow Yunel! He continues to hit while Peavy’s dealing with an off year for a bad team!
These announcers aren’t too bright (yeah, there’s a news flash for ya…) _McFann
How about comparing this to Chip?
Cabravesfan- That’s what I was thinking. Remember all those warning track flyballs we’ve had all last week?
OMG mcCann as I right this
May 9th, 20095:32 pm
BRIAN MCCANN!!!!!! Some won the 3-4 bet!!!!
McCann for cleanup!
Yes we Cann!
If Chase Utley can get a cheap home run, it’s only fair that McCann gets one too. Our line up is so much better with McCann and Anderson.
I think Mac’s seeing the ball just fine with glasses….
By the way, that hit by Chipper gave him a 29-game hitting streak against the Phillies, extending what was already the longest streak by any Brave against any opp. since at least 1954 (as far back as SABR did the research) and also the longest against Phils by any opp in that period.
My predictions for top 5 in MVP voting may actually come true!!!!
Garrett Anderson squared that one up at right at the right fielder. I like it. He may be coming around.
Brain McCann took advantage of it. Citizen’s bank special.
May 9th, 20095:33 pm
Gee. That was a pop-up by McCann. I hate this park so much.
Uh, anyway, I was going to say that Charlie Manuel obviously doesn’t care if wins this game. He was just going to ride Blanton as long as he could to save the bullpen. I can’t say that I blame him. The Phils have had so many starters leave games early that there are times when you just have to raise the white flag to keep those relievers fresh.
welcome back Brian McCann!
May 9th, 20095:34 pm
That seemed like a pop-up and it went out. Garret hit a line-drive and it went into Werth’s glove. You take what you get I guess.
These announcers are soo annoying, talking about its unfair to pitch in Philly….I dont think they were complaining when Werth, Utley, Howard and Raul hit 40 homers each here.
OK who called the Mac homer?
that had nothing to do with the park it was aided by the wind
A643bp and Couch Tater – Thanks, guys! I had no idea. I guess I’ll be listening to the game every saturday now. Much better!
It’s only fair that we get a cheap home run after the one Utley hit-
May 9th, 20095:35 pm
Kotchman for 7 or 8 hole hitter!!!!!!
We found the right glasses! I no longer have any worries for the Macattack. Great day!!!!!
Yeah, Pepsi, making the soda with natural sugar!!!! ‘Cause that’s what this nation of obese diabetics needs: better and different sugar to feed their addiction to soft drinks!
May 9th, 20095:36 pm
I hope the Phils make it a game. The blog has been boring today.
I thought the BRAVES-PHILLIES were to be on FOX today. I get BOSTON. Now I’d be happy if this was an NL game and it was 1952 with SPAHN or SAIN pitching.
We talk baseball, other sports, music, movies, BBQ and whatever (except politics or religion)
