I know hindsight is 20/20, but we all should’ve seen this coming from Schafer. He’s a rookie and you can’t assume rookies are going to come into the big leagues and not struggle. Plus, there’s nothing about his minor league numbers that suggest he’s ready for the big leagues. He’s not ready. And we’re going to have to continue to watch him struggle to make contact against big-league pitching. But as the old adage goes, what don’t kill you makes you stronger. And like DOB said, he’s going to be a pretty damn good player in the long-run. Instead of getting another year of seasoning at AAA under his belt, he’s doing it with the big club, where results are important. But this is the route the club chose to take and he’s going to be here for a long time, so deal with the strikeouts now and let him develop naturally. He’s a rookie.

I don’t understand some of hte people on the blog who think that because we give the pitcher a quick innin (regarding the number of pitches he throws), that we are a bad team for doing that. You msut not know baseball if you think that….as the hitter, why would you take a fastball right down the middle just because you want to work the count some?? You don’t, that may be the best pitch you see all at-bat.

The hitters don’t need to be less agressive, they need to have a better mindset of what they want to do when they go to the plate so they aren’t guessing.

Actually Chop Chop, I would much rather our guys not think about it. Would rather them do what they usually do because those our some popups at our place. I mean if we hit a popup and it turns into a homerun thats cool. Contact of any kind would be good for this team.

But seriously, you thought Utley’s hit would be a home run? I seriously thought it was a popup easily. Even in that park.

Why is he hitting period. Should be on the bench.

Good the see the “strulging” KJ help with the offense. Watch him get benched tomorow and .167 hitting Anderson go give Chipper ZERO protection tomorow. Hell if im Chipper i ask for a raise.

PWH – I agree and disagree I think. I agree he’ll struggle at times. I disagree the results are important. Said it many many times, this team is just OK. Back end of rotation is bad, zero power, and zero speed. I’m happy Schafer is getting his feet wet. Now I want to see Hanson and Medlen and anyone else close in the bigs. This team has the makings of being real good ‘10-’13. Get these guys experience now in the bigs when it does not matter. Not a hater, just a realist.

Ah-h-h, these lazy broadcast announcers get a mind-set going and don’t do their homework, so they’re constantly behind the curve information-wise. You’re spoiled by DAVE and CARROLL who ALWAYS stay on top of current events. Its obvious JEFF’s hard work is beginning to pay dividends.

Prior to this game Javier Vazquez was tied for the Major League Lead in home runs surrendered since the beginning of 2000 (253 long balls in that span). Who was he tied with? None-other than The Accient One: Jamie Moyer. Vazquez reclaimed the lead in fourth inning. The next closest is Jeff Suppan who is now 13 homers behind Javy. Then Livan Large Hernandez who is 18 behind him. And from there it really drops off…

Throughout most of his career Garret Anderson has been a cleanup hitter. Even though he doesn’t have great power, throughout his career he has had great numbers with RISP. Also, with McCann having to sit just about every 5 games, Bobby wants to have some stability in the cleanup spot. Give him till the end of May. I think he’s going to turn things around pretty soon.

Based on spring training, lot’s of things would be different on this team. If you look at spring training stats, JoJo pitched 13 innings, had an ERA of 2.08, and only gave up 9 hits; Hanson pitched 17.2 innings, had an ERA of 4.08, and gave up 21 hits. Basically, the Braves think that JoJo can put things together and be a major league pitcher. They aren’t ready to give up on him just yet. In terms of some peripheral stats, JoJo hasn’t been that bad this year — e.g., his WHIP is 1.30 (compared to Lowe at 1.38, Jurrjens at 1.19, and Vazquez at 1.27).
