Is there some advantage to giving the other teams starting pitchers 5-7 pitch first innings? What the hell is KJ doing swinging at a 2-0 pitch as a leadoff hitter!!!!???
May 9th, 20093:45 pm
Well that’s the way to getem kid!!! Bobby KooKS just Plain SUCKS!!!
Bobby "Sucks" Cox
1-2-3 for the Braves in what, 6 pitches? God this team sucks.
May 9th, 20093:46 pm
What the hell is KJ doing swinging at a 2-0 pitch as a leadoff hitter!!!!???
To answer that question,1. he is a dumb@ss2. he plays for Booby Kooks,3.He has no plate discipline!!!!!
KJ 2-0 pitch —out…
Esco 1-0 pitch —out…
Chipper 0-1 pitch—out
That’s just asinine. Guy has a 7.00 ERA and we give him a 6-7 pitch inning? Who bets the Phillies see 20-30 pitches this inning?
May 9th, 20093:47 pm
Yeah, MBATL, I’m not sure how that goes in contract negotiations and obligations as opposed to plea negotiations in a criminal case. The team gives the deal because they expect you to pass your screens and perform. Often, it seems prosecutors give a guy probation because they expect the addict criminal not to perform and fail their screens.
It’s easier to get the deal done if you offer them 5 years probation, rather than 1 year prison, 4 years probation —– the prosecutor doesn’t care if he gets one year prison out of him now or later, because he knows the whole time he’ll likely get his one year prison out of the guy later on because the guy will violate the terms of his probation, and get sentenced to that time anyway. Gets a case off his caseload, gets him a conviction, and he’ll likely get the prison time he wants for the guy eventually anyway.
There’s a different performance expectation in negotiations for the prosecutor and the ball team.
Rollins has sees 5 pitches, Braves 7 pitches.
May 9th, 20093:48 pm
What do you have when you have only one all-star, and a bunch of pedestrian ball players????
in the mind of the senile Booby Kooks a W/S Team, in reality a used car with no engine!!!
Maybe if we get a 1b, 2b, SS, LF, CF, & RF we might be good in a couple years.
Braves hitters have been doing this all season — being aggressive early in the count, not seeing a lot of pitches, not making the opposing pitcher work, not waiting him out. Escobar’s been especially bad about this, and surprisingly so has Chipper.
May 9th, 20093:49 pm
I would have led off with Schaf…cause since we KNOW he is going to get the out. Isn’t it better to only have one out then an out with Kelly batting leadoff AND Schaf batting 8th? At least we would have the possibility of KJ getting a hit batting lower in the order instead of the out at leadoff AND the out at the 8 spot. Just my opinion
I hope chipper didn’t hurt himself on that play..looked like he had to jump a bit
Lemme see 7 pitches to Rolaids, now 4 pitches to Puketorino, and now Chase Ugly!!!
May 9th, 20093:50 pm
No accountability on this team, and Bobby keeps sending this same crappy first inning hitters out there. We don’t score first inning runs unless Infante leads off and our pitchers need run support.
May 9th, 20093:51 pm
LKS, i am thinking the same thing. KJ= 0-5 2ks/Schaefer= 01-4 3ks
I don’t usually make these kind of statements but I hope Vazquez BEANS the Hell out of Chase UGLY and puts that guty out of Baseball, I hate that dude somethin terrible!!!
Vazquez can look so nasty in every inning of every game, except for that one inning every game. Which inning will it be this afternoon?
May 9th, 20093:52 pm
Good inning by Vazquez, Phillies atleast saw some pitches though, might help them later on in the game. 14 pitches to 7 pitches.
DOB, for you to have the musical knowledge to be able to drop both L.Cohen and M.Watt in the same post is just outstanding. Nice work man!
man…that sucks I can’t watch the game on mlb today…
May 9th, 20093:53 pm
Braveheart, Vazquez will give 3 runs in that inning and ATL will lose 3-2. One run walked in, the other unearned.
dogsbrekky (Braving thunderstorms in Filly)
God, I go for a filly steak and the 1st innings is over
good job and the cheesesteak is bloody awful
At least I am close enough to our dugout to cheer on Javier….
May 9th, 20093:54 pm
Hey DOB, It would seem to me after listening to all this stuff about Mac’s eye’s and glasses, that maybe Oakley or somebody could make a custom prescription lens to be screwed on that mask. Something like those NFL players wear on their facemasks. Has this been discussed? or is this an option? I could see where it may get scratched up a lot with that mask getting tossed around, but it might be an option if those glasses bother him too much.
dogsbrekky, what are you wearing? We’ll look for you.
May 9th, 20093:55 pm
Heres hoping Javy throws 7 shutout innings. Almost impossible in that backyard they call a ball park. One can only hope though.
Nice AB, Garret, show those noobs how it’s done.
theres some patience for ya.
Garret Anderson the professional hitter sees 7 pitches, the same amount of KJ, Esco, Chipper combined. Good at bat.
sounds like Mccann will be in a platoon with ross because of his eye problems
May 9th, 20093:56 pm
I can’t believe MLB.tv won’t let me watch the game. Wtf!
McCann ripped the effin’ sh!t out of that one
I must say it is nice to have that guy back.
May 9th, 20093:57 pm
Nice hit McCann, I think he is feeling a little better with his vision. He switched masks today, hopefully his glasses won’t fog as much today.
Good job..way to deliver kotchman…
BTW, about that ticket price for the L. Cohen show- apparently he is sporting a huge band with all sorts of backup singers and horns and stuff. A lot of mouths to feed, so not just the “he never tours” factor weighed into that priced. But I agree, prohibitively expensive for most folks. Kind of like premium seating at MLB baseball games these days huh?
Francoeur ’bout put a hole in the wall with that shot. Made a loud thud when it hit.
May 9th, 20093:58 pm
Frenchy smokes that one
Frenchy CRUSHED that!
Still don’t like him swinging at the first pitch, but nice hit.
The most unlucky single I have seen my Frenchy.
There are maybe 3 parks in baseball that you can hit a ball that hard over an outfielder’s head and it’s only a single.
Can a brotha get a K
May 9th, 20093:59 pm
Schafer has two strikes and a runner in scoring position … hmm, how will this end?
js strikes out..imagine that
Blanton gets Schafer on 3 pitches. Sigh.
Answer: It ended predictably.
god jordan suxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
There goes Schafer swinging under the ball again. You can record it and play it off over and over and nothing changes. Its sad to see.
Francoeur should have taken more pitches. Heh heh…
Schafer is horrendous. Same #$@# pitch. Get him out of the lineup. We can’t afford to not score runs. Schafer might need to bat 9th.
May 9th, 20094:00 pm
Let’s be more realistic Jason and hope he can limit the damage to 2 runs and our boys beat up on Blanton.
Is Schafer going for the record? Those are hittable balls he’s swinging through. Here’s hoping Chipper can help him.
I never seen you so pessimistic DOB, welcome to the dark side.
Why not squeeze with jordan and his swiss cheese bat?????????????????
I guess that why every player loves Bobby…he will keep you in the lineup regardless of your performance….lord..17 strikeouts in 7 games..and he is still playing
May 9th, 20094:01 pm
Vazquez looks like a better hitter than Schafer. Let’s see how many pitches the one run lead lasts in this ballpark.
I hate to say it but, maybe Javy should be batting 8th. Let Schafer do the bunting in the 8 hole.
That’s where you who blindly worship the OBP are missing the boat, in my view. It’s a crucial stat, but you have to consider other factors. One, he built that OBP on the strength of one period of about 10 days, and 2., strikeouts with one out and a runner at third kill you. An out’s not just an out in that spot. A reasonably deep flyout or a grounder to almost anywhere scores the runner. Put the ball in play.
Instead, Braves stranded the runner.
May 9th, 20094:02 pm
we only scored one? Sigh
Meant to say 9 hole. LaRussa tried it.
May 9th, 20094:03 pm
welcome to being a braves fan…n nine..very frustrating
Man Frenchy sucked last year but he’d at least hit a fastball down the middle…I think…lol
But Schafer’s a rookie some will say..I say rookie or not if you get a fastball down the middle How can you not at least make contact?
LOL, I hope DOB’s name was hijacked, because I can’t take him being negative too, that’s too depressing!!!
Jake W, I was being sarcastic. I do feel bad for Schaefer. The dude needs a day off. He is not going to say it. I am at work and not watching the game, but I imagine he has that same deflating look on his face that Reyes had last night. I feel for the kid. I am worried his confidence will be shattered ala Grienke style.
May 9th, 20094:04 pm
Schafer is looking like another pitcher when he bats now! Three straight fastballs down the middle and he barely made contact on one of them!!!
It’s wearin’ on everybody man.
Time to make a decision.
Chipper got a good night of sleep last night
its so lame because fox blacks these games out.. I have to watch the Redsoxs Rays game. Love watching The Rays Play but would be nice to watch the Braves when you stinkin pay 20$ a month for MLB.TV but fox blacks them out. Longoria is a machine along with Pena.the Rays have speed something the braves lack so bad..
Braveheart – 9:52 am: Interesting synopsis. Add in to that the expected late season return of Hudson and the possibilities become larger.
I remember calls for a leadoff spot filled with Jordan K-Man Schafer. They are just slicing him up at the plate.
dogsbrekky in Filthy Filly
God, our runners are very molasses like, I could out-run GA and Froggy
Schafer needs to shorten his swing
Bad inning for us, we should have scored at least 2
Time for a dog or 3
May 9th, 20094:05 pm
Great play by Chipper running from short stop to foul territory in left field .
Nice running catch by Chipper. It would have been nice to see KJ there with runners in scoring position. Anyone have an idea how many runners Jordan has LOB?
May 9th, 20094:06 pm
These announcers haven’t watched the Braves in about 4 years…
Schafer might be better off hitting leadoff than 8th. Atleast he could bunt more and not have anyone on base when he is up. Vazquez gives up A LOT of bloop hits.
Agreed, Corky, LOL!
May 9th, 20094:07 pm
MFin04: Agreed on Chipper. Covered a lot of ground and made it look easy on a difficult over-the-shoulder catch.
I HATE JORDAN SCHAFER. The guy SUCKSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!
Schafer fails to deliver…again
May 9th, 20094:08 pm
Is this the Dinky-hits inning for the game. We need a Double play and not an error now.
Schafer is the guy that hurts this team the most. How many runs did he save catching balls maybe nobody else would have compared to the runs he didn’t bring in?
May 9th, 20094:09 pm
There you go – easy does it.
nice double play there
Jordan does need a break, but defensively you really don’t want to see Infante in center. The only thing I see is him being DL’d and them calling up Blanco. He can do no worse than Schafer now. It also may help Schafer’s wrist and give him time to figure things out.
Nice double play, that was DP2C!!!!!
May 9th, 20094:10 pm
McCann’s AVG is up to .222!!
And he looks better in the traditional mask.
May 9th, 20094:11 pm
Did you pitch counters notice it is Blanton 28, JV 27?
Is anyone else “watching” the game on mlb gameday – the free version? It seems to be completely screwed up.
May 9th, 20094:12 pm
Jim I’m watching both…what’s wrong with it?
May 9th, 20094:13 pm
Another pro AB from Kelly.
Has Joe Blanton won the Cy Young ever? Wow Esco likes to make the pitchers work.
May 9th, 20094:14 pm
Kelly is aggressive and gets behind in the count, but then he looks at a pitch right down the middle for strike 3.
DP2C really seems to be catching on with people on here. Disgusting. Marietta Derek’s mission has been accomplished and he can go ahead and annoy the next blog on his list.
can we trade for andruw jones
1. JO JO 0-9 (Bobby Cox: “20% of the time he looked good every pitch”)
2. KJ .173 BA since 4/16 batting lead off
3. Jordan 17Ks in 7 games(Ks 43% of the time overall) starting CF
4. Infante BA .338 (strikes out 7% of the time) on the bench
Reasons why Bobby Cox and the gang have use poised to clinch 4th Place.
May 9th, 20094:15 pm
Today seems like a good day for Chipper to get hurt it has been a while.
How about Prado as our starting 2B?
No displays of the pitches, one batter’s readings run into the next. For instance 4 inplay (outs), 5 ball, etc.
May 9th, 20094:16 pm
i want my free kfc
May 9th, 20094:17 pm
Gameday works just fine. Restard your browser or computer.
hello all…i’m a longtime braves fan and sometime blogger…listening to the game on mlb.com today…must say i like the new announcer teamed up w/ sutton…i met him and john schiambi coming out of a cincinnati game (braves victory 10-2)…nice guy and sounds a lot different than he does on the radio…as is shaimbi -a prince of a guy… big boy, too…i think tv takes 10lbs off him…so anyways, can someone explain what “double pits to chesty” means, and where it came from?…go braves!!
