That’s just asinine. Guy has a 7.00 ERA and we give him a 6-7 pitch inning? Who bets the Phillies see 20-30 pitches this inning?

Yeah, MBATL, I’m not sure how that goes in contract negotiations and obligations as opposed to plea negotiations in a criminal case. The team gives the deal because they expect you to pass your screens and perform. Often, it seems prosecutors give a guy probation because they expect the addict criminal not to perform and fail their screens.
It’s easier to get the deal done if you offer them 5 years probation, rather than 1 year prison, 4 years probation —– the prosecutor doesn’t care if he gets one year prison out of him now or later, because he knows the whole time he’ll likely get his one year prison out of the guy later on because the guy will violate the terms of his probation, and get sentenced to that time anyway. Gets a case off his caseload, gets him a conviction, and he’ll likely get the prison time he wants for the guy eventually anyway.
There’s a different performance expectation in negotiations for the prosecutor and the ball team.

Braves hitters have been doing this all season — being aggressive early in the count, not seeing a lot of pitches, not making the opposing pitcher work, not waiting him out. Escobar’s been especially bad about this, and surprisingly so has Chipper.

I would have led off with Schaf…cause since we KNOW he is going to get the out. Isn’t it better to only have one out then an out with Kelly batting leadoff AND Schaf batting 8th? At least we would have the possibility of KJ getting a hit batting lower in the order instead of the out at leadoff AND the out at the 8 spot. Just my opinion

No accountability on this team, and Bobby keeps sending this same crappy first inning hitters out there. We don’t score first inning runs unless Infante leads off and our pitchers need run support.

Good inning by Vazquez, Phillies atleast saw some pitches though, might help them later on in the game. 14 pitches to 7 pitches.

Hey DOB, It would seem to me after listening to all this stuff about Mac’s eye’s and glasses, that maybe Oakley or somebody could make a custom prescription lens to be screwed on that mask. Something like those NFL players wear on their facemasks. Has this been discussed? or is this an option? I could see where it may get scratched up a lot with that mask getting tossed around, but it might be an option if those glasses bother him too much.

BTW, about that ticket price for the L. Cohen show- apparently he is sporting a huge band with all sorts of backup singers and horns and stuff. A lot of mouths to feed, so not just the “he never tours” factor weighed into that priced. But I agree, prohibitively expensive for most folks. Kind of like premium seating at MLB baseball games these days huh?

That’s where you who blindly worship the OBP are missing the boat, in my view. It’s a crucial stat, but you have to consider other factors. One, he built that OBP on the strength of one period of about 10 days, and 2., strikeouts with one out and a runner at third kill you. An out’s not just an out in that spot. A reasonably deep flyout or a grounder to almost anywhere scores the runner. Put the ball in play.
Instead, Braves stranded the runner.

its so lame because fox blacks these games out.. I have to watch the Redsoxs Rays game. Love watching The Rays Play but would be nice to watch the Braves when you stinkin pay 20$ a month for MLB.TV but fox blacks them out. Longoria is a machine along with Pena.the Rays have speed something the braves lack so bad..

I remember calls for a leadoff spot filled with Jordan K-Man Schafer. They are just slicing him up at the plate.

Jordan does need a break, but defensively you really don’t want to see Infante in center. The only thing I see is him being DL’d and them calling up Blanco. He can do no worse than Schafer now. It also may help Schafer’s wrist and give him time to figure things out.

hello all…i’m a longtime braves fan and sometime blogger…listening to the game on mlb.com today…must say i like the new announcer teamed up w/ sutton…i met him and john schiambi coming out of a cincinnati game (braves victory 10-2)…nice guy and sounds a lot different than he does on the radio…as is shaimbi -a prince of a guy… big boy, too…i think tv takes 10lbs off him…so anyways, can someone explain what “double pits to chesty” means, and where it came from?…go braves!!
