Once the scouts watched Schaefer hit twice, they knew his weakness. If they had seen him in Spring Training, they already knew. Even without any scouts, a good MLB pitcher can figure out a hitter’s weaknesses… Maddux could do it in less that one at bat when he was pitching. Chipper was only saying what 99.999999999% of the scouts already know.

Some fun stats for y’all to read….

The Braves are tied for 7th in all of baseball for the most GDIP (21), and tied for 2nd in the NL with Houston and the Mets. The league leaders are Toronto (33), Boston (27), LAD (26), Seattle (26), Detroit (25), and Minnesota (23).

However, the Dodgers, Mets, Red Sox, and Blue Jays, respectively, rank 1-4 in baseball in OBP. The Braves are 12th in baseball in OBP. Detroit (14th), Minnesota (20th), Seattle (26th), and Houston (27th) are the only teams with lesser OBP than have hit just as many or more double plays than the Braves.

All of these teams, except for Houston, have a higher team Batting Average (Braves are 19th), and have scored more runs. All of these teams have hit more HR (even HOU) and Sac Flys. And, all these teams have at least 3 times as many SB as the Braves who have 4 SB (Toronto is the next lowest with 12).

Escobar and Francouer have each hit into 5 double plays and rank 12th,13th in baseball/6th/7th in the NL with the most. The league leaders (4 players including A. Hill, Pedroia, Lowell, Eithier) have 7 GIDP.

Jason in Atl: I’m a fan of both bands, and have commented on both quite frequently in the past. Just last week I said the new Heartless Bastards album is very good.

If I wasn’t gonna be here covering a game tomorrow night, I’d go. Alas, I’ll be here working, bro.

The insipid Chip Caray is such a douchebag. Does he not have any sense of when a fly ball is an out vs a HR. You do not need many games to get a feel for how deep the ball is. Alternatively, does Chip think he is adding useful drama to act like a routine fly ball is almost a tremendous HR?

WTF kind of comment is “if Kotchman had just eaten one more biscuit, it would have been out in the bullpen?” STFU Chip.

Is our cleanup hitter caoable of hitting the ball over the fence in a major league park? Maybe Cincy or Philly. Not Atlanta. Why would any pitcher give Chipper anything to hit with a cleanup hitter behind him who has zero HRs and all of 4 RBIs the first month of the season?

If Vazquez does his usual job and gives up 2 or 3 runs, he’s looking at an L or a ND. Probably needs to hold ‘em to a run or less if he’s going to get a W.

Chip Caray is such a shill for the Braves. If the Braves reframe the Garret Anderson refusal to take a rehab assignment, then it must be true. Yeah, Chip, may be good enough for you, but not for me.

Garret best have his hitting shoes on when he returns or he is going to hear the boo-birds at the Ted, just like Frenchy did last year. Zero tolerance for foolishness with the Braves performing so poorly.
