mets09WC, isn’t there any after school activities to keep you busy? You’ll be going into middle school next year and you need to prepare for more after school stuff.
The Nats are the only team in the NL East with no shot at the playoffs. I think it will take about 90 wins to win the East. There’s going to be some jockeying between the 4 (non-Nats) teams all season long. No team is without its weak points. If The Mets had signed Lowe they would be the heavy favorite. Not signing Lowe forced the signing of Ollie “The Faucet” Perez who’s been running mostly ice cold in 2009. They used to say Perez was a “Braves beater” but now I think he is a much better “Mets beater.”
I know everyone is probably tired of this question but how’s the weather holding up out there? Going to be able to get the entire game in without a delay?
Do we go for the best available righty? Or the next superstar third baseman? How about another catcher or second baseman? Outfielder anyone? (RICH BRAVE)
Teams, including the Braves very seldom draft by position unless they feel there is a guy so advanced that he can make the majors in two years or so. It will likely be a pitcher since there will probably be a few well-respected ones left although you are correct about the best ones being gone. Or “best available athlete” if all the pitchers they covet are gone. That might translate into Donovan Tate a Georgia outfielder though I kinda hope not.

OH Boy sports fans. Hot battle brewing between Anders of the elite clients fame, and Dogsbrekky who runs in circles with the baseball ownership crowd. Might be some heavy punches tonight. Hope there is no collateral damage in this battle of the titans.
Now, as somebody stated earlier, their are on a streak where they have averaged around 2 ER per 9 innings.
Like I stated last night, the season is full of wild swings, both good and bad. Wayne
Yes Wayne, but the problem is when the pitchers are pitching good, they get no run support. When the hitters start scoring runs, the pitchers can’t keep the opposition from running across home plate. Different year, same story. This bunch has no chemistry. They seem to play to the level of the competition. But the problem is, when games are close, they lack the determination and know-how to end up on top.
Bobby needs to mix it up, and KJ at leadoff, Kotchman in the cleanup, and Schafer 8th, has been the worst lineup we’ve seen this year. We need a healthy McCann back, and another right handed, steady .300 bat in this lineup to see at least some success, whether that’s in LF or at 2B. Today’s lineup doesn’t have half of that.
Well its that time of the year again. Both teams are scuffing while 3rd place hangs in the balance. Both GMs dropped the ball in the offseason and need to fix some holes. Tell Chumper to let the GM call out players in public and let him do it in private. See you at the Turd tommorrow.
Great…the only thing we need more to cap off another disappointing season, a 41-yr old has been pitcher who is extremely overweight now and can only throw 80 mph….thats EXCITING!
Face it guys, whether anyone likes it or not, this season is already close to being over simply because we have a manager that doesn’t learn from the past.
Oh, and to the guy who brought up the 1 WS ring…you hit the nail right on the head. Yes, 14 division titles and the streak may never be broken, BUT neither will 14 titles and 1 ring…
A major disappointment to anyone that “isn’t just happy to be there”.
Then again, that seems to be how the players on the Atlanta club are playing right now…
Hey, thats fine…if they’re just happy to be in the majors and don’t care to play quality baseball and Bobby Cox doesn’t care to put a quality product out on the field…Fine with me…I like others just will decide to spend my hard earned money elsewhere…
Given the televised games on Fri and Sun, it already looks like a morgue at Turner…and sadly, its going to get worse!
Andrew, unless there is a good # 8 hitter and a good pitcher chances are the leadoff hitter is going to have the bases empty.
Of Kelly’s 73 at bats 47 of them have been with the bases empty that’s over 50 %.
Of Jose Reyes 97 at bats 60 of them have been with the bases empty that’s over 50 %.
Of Jimmy Rollins 90 at bats 60 of them have been with the bases empty that’s over 50 %.
Of Emilio Bonifacio’s 105 at bats 70 of them have been with the bases empty that’s over 50 %.
So you see, at least most of the time, leadoff hitters bat with the bases empty. It’s not an exact science, there will be some exceptions sometimes. Offcourse this only applies in the national league.
Bobby’s Cox, Bobby is more than likely not in panic mode which he,the players, or any of us fans shouldn’t be. Maybe Bobby feels…well, I really don’t know why he’s throwing that lineup out there again. But Maine and Hernandez? We should be able to produce at least a few runs off these guys. Vazquez has the edge in Gm.1 while Gm.2 is a toss up between two pretty bad pitchers. Kawa. might turn it around, but I don’t know. Who cares, lets just enjoy the game!
hey! Vegas was fun- really really hot though, and crowded (note to self: avoid Vegas on fight night)- managed not to loose too much money and it took 7 hours to get home.

If you mean Anderson, it is too early not too late. Can’t trade a free agent signee until June 15 without his consent and the union’s blessing, which they almost never give. Gotta hang in there another month and a half friend.
Bobby is not in panic mode nor is he ever because a) he’s 100 years old now and there’s nothing to fear but death and b) because no one has the balls to tell him to step down, so he has better job security than President Obama.

Did I read that correctly? Is it just me or do I expect that because a big league ballclub can pay 90 mil in payroll, they should be able to get McCann a pair of glasses faster than one day before he comes off the DL? I mean it will have been a week since they decided to go the glasses route. (which I think should have been considered from day one) Doesn’t money talk anymore? (especially in this economy) So the glasses company says, that will be $600 and it will be a week. Shouldn’t the Braves say, no, that will be $2000 that we’re going to give you and it will be day after tomorrow! Or even “no we’ll give you $5000 and we want them in two days!” Just how much does a loss cost you in the standings-revenue-attendance-merchandise? What IF the glasses aren’t just right and the Rx needs a bit of tweaking. So McCann needs to wait another week to get more glasses? Do McCann and the Braves twiddle their thumbs for a week?
Like I said, is it me or has the McCann glasses-contacts-Lasik surgery thing drug on forever without resolution? And no I’m not being insensitive to McCann. I don’t want him playing and jeopardizing his health or career if he can’t see. I just feel like the Braves should have been proactive and considered ALL Options from day one. (Glasses-contacts-Lasik) I also didn’t understand watching McCann sitting in the dugout on the last road trip and the announcers saying, “he’ll see the doctor when we get back to Atlanta.” What the??? Why didn’t they send him home and start the process of finding a fix right then and there instead of waiting until they just so happen to go home off the roadtrip.
Braves management doesn’t seem to have a sense of urgency so it’s not hard to understand why sometimes the players don’t have a sense of urgency either.
took almost an hour to get to Stateline, nearly 4 to Barstow…there was a load of traffic and a lovely sandstorm to go with the 40 mph wind gusts…good times!
Tom and cabravesfan – have you ever seen pictures of Wayne Newton when he was young – he had a baby face on a not-skinny body, and did not have what one would consider a deep, husky voice. He was a weird and strange phenomenon back then, yet in a totally different way than he is weird and strange now. (I know this from reading history books, not personal knowledge, which would make me seem almost twenty years older than you guys).
I even think her name is sexy … Tina Fey, Tina Fey … ummmm (TOM O)
it’s even kinda fey sounding.
You’re welcome on the tv display post. Glad you found it helpful. Just don’t believe all the morons who will tell you that you gotta get ia plasma recharged every year or two.
Propp: There wasnt enough time to experiment with Reyes at 3rd due to the WBC. Besides he needs to stay at leadoff until he starts hitting 20-25 bombs a year.
Seriously….anyone have the Braves 1 slot stats? I looked at a few sites (briefly) but couldn’t find any sortable stats for batting position per team. Does anyone have a link to a non-paid site, where I could get them myself? I really would like to see how they stack up to Schafer’s line, even with the strikeouts.
Anyone read Furman Bisher’s latest column about the Braves farm system (or apparent lack there of)? I usually am a big fan of Furman’s but this latest article leaves me scratching my head.
He blames two trades (the Texiera trade last year and the Drew for Wainwright nearly a decade ago) for essentially routing our farm system, but fails to mention the numerous smaller trades that have replaced many of the departed prospects (ie: Jurrjens, Gorkys H., Medlen, Kotchman, etc.). Not to mention the plethora of young, home-grown talent waiting in the wings (ie: Heyward, Hanson, Freeman, etc.).
I liken Furman to George Will, in that the lack of research and casual, fan-like attitude about baseball sometimes makes him more in tune with the little idosyncracies of the game and its culture. This unique perspective is what often makes his writing so charming. So what’s the big difference??
George Will is a political columnist.
If Mr. Bisher is going to continue to assume the title of “sports columnist,” then he should at least utilize his extensive access and resources enough to know more about the Braves than I do.
Wayne Newton played Andy Walker in two episodes of Bonanza, in 1966.
One episode was called the unwritten commandment. Songs sung by Wayne Newton in this episode are “Old Joe Clark”, “Scarlet Ribbons”, “Danny Boy” and “The Old Rugged Cross”.
cabravesfan – on a “Chuck” note – NBC did their upfronts today to announce new and returning shows for the fall, but they have not yet announced a decision on several shows, including Chuck, so it is unclear if it will return. Did you see the season finale last week?
I do declare! I report in the old fashioned way. I research topics by going down to the barber shop and discussing them with my coterie of 80-year old friends while sipping cocoa.
If the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result, I guess it’s time to commit Chance the Manager.
Other than Chipper, is anyone in the lineup hitting in a spot best suited to his skill? KJ is not a leadoff hitter. Yunel is not a No. 2 hitter. Kotchman is in no way a cleanup hitter. As the only player in the lineup with the slightest bit of speed, Schafer doesn’t need to be hitting 8th.
Has Cox given up on the idea of playing Infante in the OF? Evidently so. Guess that means Schafer’s gonna start 162 games in CF and Infante can only play against lefties or when Chipper or Yunel is hurt.
How about this:
Infante, LF
Schafer, CF
Jones, 3B
Francouer, RF
Johnson, 2b
Escobar SS
Prado, 1B
Ross, C
A 1B who has no homers, is timed from first to third with an hour glass and is on pace to drive in about 25 runs this season does not need to be wasting a spot in the lineup. Kotchman is useless offensively. It will probably hurt the defense to have him on the bench, but on a team that struggles to score more than 2 runs a game, it’s an acceptible risk.
Braves need to find someone who can play 1B and actually hit like a 1B. Unfortunately, there’s no one on the current roster who fits that bill.
It’s understandable that Kotchman is still in the lineup considering the lack of a real alternative. But to have the guy batting cleanup is a stark reminder that the guy making the decisions in the dugout is utterly clueless and needs to be pointed in the direction of the home where washed-up old managers go to retire.
This team is unlikely to win even if Cox is replaced. It has next to no chance with him filling out the lineup card.
Ahhhh I should have picked up on your sarcasm…thanks for the clarification! PETE to Coach)
sarcasm without a point is worthless. Nobody here has ever said that speed would hurt a lineup. Just another of Coach’s straw dogs that he loves to set up so he can knock them down and try to fool others into thinking he is making sense. Coach is the Devil.
Jim
I saw a tv special, not too long ago, maybe it was VH1, I’m not sure but it was about all the different musical acts on the old “Ed Sullivan Show”. Back in those days, he had everybody on. Elvis, the Beatles, Stones, actually all or most of the “British Invasion”, and of course, Wayne Newton.

No Bobby is a tenured, burnt-out English lit teacher at a community college – a lifetime position.

Jeff, Maybe something is wrong with the HD feed and they are using the analog feed. Might explain the stretching to fit the ratio.
That may answer my question. I’m not getting the HD feed on my cable, which is unusual.
