To start, I have always been a big Reyes fan (as I am with most Braves prospects). I find it comical that after one start, the blog was ready to deem him the next Blaine Boyer. Now, after 5 innings, some are already talking about him blocking Glavine and Hanson.
Talk about living in the moment.
Joe “knows” talent.
Want a laugh? Look up Joe Simpson’s career stats and laugh next time he talks about what a hitter needs to do to produce.

Omar did fine last year with only 300 ab….maybe not start him full time but every now and then…a little platoon wouldn’t hurt.

The Braves should never have signed GA anyway…I don’t normally bash Bobby, and I think he is a GREAT manager, but he does get carried away with wanting that “veteran” presence. GA is washed up, has no fire, and you can completely tell he doesn’t want to be in the ATL. I know some will have gnashing of team at this suggestion, but I think he should be released. Yup, that’s right. Dump him. Eat the 2.5 million. About the worst 2.5 million this org has spent this side of Hampton.
Ah..There is that usual Jo-Jo Implosion
May 3rd, 20093:05 pm
Hey, at least Bobby Cox yanked the starting pitcher before we’re losing the game this time!
well its over, Jeff Bennett coming in after Reyes breaks down immediatly after being given a lead.
Coach (2010 or bust)
O boy, speaking of the pitching.
ughh get him one more hitter bobby. He has dominated ivan today. No win for jojo again.
May 3rd, 20093:06 pm
Stat #1: The Braves are tied for 6th in the Majors, with 97 Runs Against on the season. That is a good thing.
Stat #2: The Braves are tied for 5th in the Majors for fewest Runs Scored, with 93. That is a bad thing.
That about sums it up, doesn’t it? Pitching’s great, offense isn’t.
Conclusion: this team needs to learn how to play small ball and execute on the fundamentals if they’re going to stay/be relevant because their pitching’ll keep them in games, but it can’t win it for them. Today’s a great example. You execute on the bunts and hit the sacrifice flies, and all of a sudden you’re up 3-1 with your fifth starter pitching extremely well…and as I say that, Reyes implodes. Ugh.
Well Jojo did have to run the bases, that could have something to do with his troubles this inning.
Get him a 2 run lead and he pulls out the typical Jo-Jo choke job…Can we at some point come to the realization that this guy doesn’t have it and never will? He’s been nothing but an inconsistent choke artist from the start. Can we please give up on him?
May 3rd, 20093:07 pm
o and did i mention that this all happened against the Astros
Boo – You’re a young feller huh? There’s an age-old saying…“The best coaches are not always the best players”. Look it up.
Jo Jo Reyes is a big tub of goo
Ran out of gas – must have not eaten enough twinkies for breakfast.

Prediction: Jeff Bennett allows all three inherited runners to score, then quickly escapes the inning to save his own era
Anderson had the choice not to go on a rehab assignment and he chose not to. It wouldn’t have been hard for him to get up to Gwinnett – that, if anything, is the surprising part to me. Otherwise, I don’t know that it’s such a huge deal for him. He didn’t refuse, he was given a choice and chose no.
Gamecast didn’t have that as a deep fly
May 3rd, 20093:09 pm
You are an idiot.
Frank from KS
vabravesfan re: your 3:00
Good pitching by Bennett.
Leave it to Jeff Bennett to let the inherited runner score. If they gave out an award for that, he’d win it going away. Call it the “Deceptively Low ERA” award.
Boo, Infante is the current flavor-of-the-week. Stick around, he’ll eventually put up two 0-4 games in a row and everyone here will hate him. Such is the case with the bandfwagon fans here, their opinions on any hitter not named Chipper literally change after each at-bat.
May 3rd, 20093:10 pm
Diaz had to make a sliding catch so he couldn’t throw him out.
Not funny the way that Bennett uses to lower his ERA
“Gamecast didn’t have that as a deep fly”
No, but sort of a sliding catch by Diaz. Throw was okay (cut off, as it should’ve been). No real hope of getting the runner.
May 3rd, 20093:11 pm
Will the real Jo-Jo Reyes please stand up?
O okay now it makes sense. Thanks for the clarification.
Bennett did his job. 4-3 Astros.
Rob from SC
Jo Jo pitched well. Everyone has a bad inning from time to time. A bunt hit, Francoeur should have caught Berkman’s ball in my opinion. Nobody jumped on Vazquez when he gave up 4 in a inning earlier this week.
the radio anouncers just said that Cox brings Bennett in because he has a good sinker to produce a ground ball, and Bennet gives up a sac fly. Has he ever come in with runners on, and held them scoreless?
May 3rd, 20093:12 pm
well this is frustrating
Chipper is a stiff
He’s done! Washed up! Got no game left! No power anymore!
GET RID OF HIM NOW!
Steve from OH
Umm…JoJo has kept us in this ballgame. That’s all you can really ask from a 5th starter. He didn’t really pitch all that badly today, either.
May 3rd, 20093:13 pm
And it’s really hard to get all over a guy for limiting a bases-loaded inning to one run when brought in. Jeez…Bennett did his job.
better get him in
May 3rd, 20093:14 pm
Almost any team in the majors would take what Jo-Jo’s done this year. He pitched 5 and 2/3 and gave us a chance to win the game. That’s all you can ask of a 5th starter.
I’m beginning to get the impression that, aside from Chipper, McCann, maybe Frenchy and Lowe, JJ, Gonzo and Vazquez, this is a team of spare parts.
that a boy matty loving the new found speed
Jo Jo Reyes was lights out
4 earned runs in 5.1 innings. Now that’s what I call pitching well.
Keep that up and he may lose 20 games.
May 3rd, 20093:15 pm
Don’t look now, but Charlie Morton has been brilliant today for Gwinnett…7IP, 2H, 1ER, 2BB, 10K.
steve from OH
sorry for copying your post… lol. Guess reasonable minds think alike.
May 3rd, 20093:16 pm
Paint a picture of the guy at third … he should still be there at the end of the inning.
What a frustrating start for Jo Jo. He is now in line for the loss.
PUT THE BALL IN PLAY SCHAFER!
Steve, I have been watching that online. Too bad he is still losing the game
May 3rd, 20093:17 pm
Just like Jojo was/is whatever you folks what to call it, as long as he can do that down the road in the ATL it’s all good.
May 3rd, 20093:19 pm
This team is SO blowing that leadoff Diaz triple.
Jo Jo Reyes is invaluable
May 3rd, 20093:20 pm
What wouldn’t you pay for a 5+ ERA?
JOJO is solid until the 6th!!!!! Lose a chuck James, gain a chuck James.
With all due respect….I’m one that NEVER has been a fan of Mr. Reyes.
I’ve thought the same about him as I did Mr. Boyer….in that the Braves need to ship his *** out.
The Braves finally woke up about Boyer…..can they finally get smart about JoJo?
Time will tell.
come on norton pick the guys up
Homerun in Philly ruined Schafer. Big time! I knew it.
May 3rd, 20093:21 pm
Like I was saying about fundamentals…
Why is it when we get a guy on 3rd with 0 outs that we can’t even make contact to get a run with an out.
We’re all over the ABC baseball. How sad.
Is it over? Runner stranded at third?
Thumbs up to Jo-Jo. No HR, no really hard hit balls. Some tough luck (though the runs were all legit). He needs to learn to stay in the game better, but I’ll take him at the back end of the rotation.
How far up the Phillies and Mets rotations do you have to to find anyone who’s been better? (Answer, each team has ONE starter with an era better than Reyes’).
Norton with a HIT!
May 3rd, 20093:22 pm
Norton bailed Ross and Schafer’s FAIL out.
Run Heap Run
Great time to bust that slump, Norty!
Thank you, Mr. Norton.
For good teams, a leadoff triple has to score 75% of the time!
Woo-hoo, Greg Norton. Way to pick up the team. Drives the runner in from third with 2 outs.
….and my man Norton comes through, like an old vet does.
Norton bails them out with that single to tie it. And it was his second hit in 16 at-bats this season.
Hahaha. I like “Norty.”
May 3rd, 20093:23 pm
If I were Cecil Cooper, I’d punch Wright right square in the jaw.
F’n Amstel Lite commercial
Does there have to be 2 out before the Braves feel comfortable scoring?
OMG , Norton does his job. 4-4 and all tied up. Battle of the bullpens now.
That’s what we really have to look at. Yes Jojo still gave up 4 but nothing really hard hit and no homers. And he pitched the same as last time. He just kept getting singles hit off him and Bobby wanted to pull him so he would not lose confidence over it.
Jo Jo Reyes is living large
May 3rd, 20093:24 pm
As big as his appetite! Now he’ll have to put more notches in his belt.
I complain and then Norton comes through in the clutch.
May 3rd, 20093:25 pm
Gwinnett – bases loaded 1 out and they ground into double play. Morton pulled. Still losing 1-0
Seriously, I want NOTHING to do with Amsterdam and their beer because of that ONE (get a new one!) obnoxious television commercial.
Happy Mothers Day
to the women of Atlanta from Chipper Jones. He’d like to make mothers out of most of you.
Anyone else having trouble with MLB’s compucast?
Jo Jo Reyes smells like...

P-Town Brave(TN Jeff can SUCK IT!) (2:13 am): “<—— My thoughts exactly!”
I see you’ve been reduced to citing yourself.
Sure sell nobody else is gonna.
Got a bunch of you still drinking the ‘Jo-Jo’ has a ton of potential kool-aid. I’ve had it with inconsistency on this team. The last thing the braves need is another guy who could come out and dazzle on month or be absolute garbage another. (See Kelly Johnson, Yunel Escobar, Charlie Morton, etc.) Trade these guys while they still have some value, bring up the talent (see Hanson), and go get some guys who can consistently produce. 7-12 one week and 4-39 the next 2 isn’t winning ballgames for this team as we have seen for the past 3 years. The braves spent 14 years on top because they were a model of consistency and for the past 3 they have been anything but that.
May 3rd, 20093:28 pm
Lookin’ forward to a good golf finish after the Braves w.
Garret Anderson's spokesperson
Garret had the choice of watchinng today’s game but he decided that the Hawks/Heat game would be more entertaining. It was a choice!
May 3rd, 20093:29 pm
Proud to see the Hawks not being the latest Atlanta team to choke in the 1st round.
May 3rd, 20093:30 pm
A harlious commercial that’s going right now……..is the Burger King one where the girl comes along and gives this guy sitting on the park bench her phone # and then gets in her car and as if to say..”Call me”…..and then he opens up the piece of paper and the last part of her number has been messed up and is unreadable.
May 3rd, 20093:32 pm
Gwinnett – bases loaded 1 out and they ground into double play. Morton pulled. Still losing 1-0
Sounds an awful lot like what happens at Turner Field. Perhaps they should trade a pitcher and starting position player and replace the position player with one who can hit. 1B or LF come to mind.
lead off walks kill us
Glad Schafer is out of the leadoff spot
I’m glad Bobby Cox made the right decision and put Schafer back at the bottom of the order where he belongs:)
May 3rd, 20093:33 pm
Moylan walks the lead off man. Runner bunted over to second by Masui. One out. Man on second.
Justice David Souter
I applaud Garret Anderson. He is a staunch defender of a left-fielder’s RIGHT TO CHOOSE.
Garret Anderson is a true American.
May 3rd, 20093:34 pm
the leadoff spot is tooo big for schafer he cant handle it
The MLB computer option is much better this year, but there are always times when picture and sound stalls. However, it is hard to say whether this is fault of MLB or quality of broadband. Game always finishes at least a couple of minutes later than real time.
Frank: when I first started reading your comment, I thought you were going to mention that cringe-inducing “square butts” Burger King commercial.
May 3rd, 20093:35 pm
Base hit up the middle. Lead off walk comes in to score. 5-4 Astros.
Just trade Johnson and get it over with. A platoon at second? I understand he wants to get Infante’s hot bat in there, but give him a spot start in left field. Doesn’t make any sense to me. Kelly Johnson is not on this team next year. That I am certain of. Hell, he may not be on this team by July 31st. Wouldn’t suprise me at all. Why not sit Yunel once and a while?
I like Moylan but this is classic GIVE IT UP BOY action.
