Medlen threw six shutout innings with three hits, two walks and eight strikeouts tonight in a 2-0 Gwinnett win, making the little right-hander 3-0 with a 1.52 ERA in five games (four starts).
He’s got 28 strikeouts with six walks and 15 hits allowed in 23-2/3 innings.
Hanson has a 1.69 ERA in five starts, with 38 strikeouts, nine walks and 19 hits in 26-2/3 innings.
Nice options to have just a 25-minute drive from Turner Field, eh?

Jacob Thompson was a 5th-rounder (I think) from last year’s draft. The thing about him is that he was a projected first-rounder, but got ill and lost a few mph on his fastball, so he fell to us in the 5th round, and we were able to sign him, so I was really excited about that.
Also, keep an eye on JJ Hoover and Randall Delgado. I think they’ll both be special.

So is medlen gonna end up coming to Atlanta as a RP or has he converted to starting? I can’t wait to see him in Atlanta, so I hope they bring him in as a bullpen option. Atleast now he’ll have the abilty to serve as an emergency starter also. I’m thinking a better version of Campillo.

There are some serious anti-fogging products out there that you can treat glasses with. The stuff is made for humid industrial environments. I’m sure some of the Braves clubhouse folks can keep a couple of pairs of glasses treated with the stuff for Mac.

Spruill is at Rome, and doing really well…a 1.71 ERA in 21 IP with 20K’s and only 1 walk, and a 1.19 WHIP. I’m excited about him too, but he’s a bit of a higher profile prospect so I don’t emphasize him as much a a sort of “sleeper.”

has McCann had an MRI to rule out anything impinging on the optic nerve?
His vision problems make me think there’s something going on inside. The dryness is also kinda weird..maybe he needs a nerve conduction test?? Dunno, just throwing these things out there, since this is such a strange problem…

Goldenglove002, yeah, I keep trying to “get into” the Hawks but they just stink. One good game, two bad. “Superstars” Joe Johnson and Josh Smith manage 13 and 7 points in a game that would move us on to the next round. Terrible. They may or may not win game 7, but just not a very good team.

I know this sounds kinda weird, but I’m making this statement with 100% sincerity and 0% hyperbole.
The Frenchy AB with the bases loaded was the best AB I have EVER seen him have. Even when he drove in 100 a couple of years, I have never liked his approach at the plate. He was a flailer who got by on athletic ability alone. He looked like a starving dog jumping on a hambone with every swing!
Frenchy now looks like a major league hitter. That’s the first time I’ve said that and meant it since his debut as a Brave. He went with that breaking ball to right field with intent. I don’t mean he swung late or fought it off like most of hits that have gone to right through his career. He slapped the ball where he wanted to slap it and with some authority!
Frenchy is proving me wrong. Although he may never be the Superstar he was tagged as becoming when he first came up, he has a chance to have a nice big league career if he continues to keep this confidence he is obviously carrying right now.

In case anyone was wondering, Dave Ross was away tonight because his wife had a baby. Cox told us but didn’t want us putting it out during game, for fear the other team would know (hey, he’s old school).
But if Sammons had gotten hurt tonight, or if he does get hurt (should they continue this game), Diaz or Norton is the emergency catcher. Ross is supposed to be back tomorrow

You know like a few hours ago when I was talking about the rain here? Before it even started raining in Atlanta? Well it’s still raining here, it kindly stopped long enough for me to run to the store when the rain delay started but it started back up again shortly after. Doesn’t mean it will do the same in Atlanta, but I’ve noticed that it usually does.

A, if the other team knew the Braves only had one catcher at the stadium they might decide to forget to slide at home plate, since the Braves would have to go to an emregency backup if Sammons were to get injured. Though I really don’t know if the Astro’s are the kind of team to do something in bad sportsmanship like that

I think the idea is more that if the Astros knew that Ross was gone, they would know the Braves couldn’t pinch hit or pinch run for Sammons should that become relevant. Probably not worth the effort, but that’s the idea.

The funny thing is Bobby doesn’t seem to realize that he is so darn predictible that everyone immediately notices when something is out of whack. I knew something was up as soon as I saw Sammons in the lineup. I’m just glad he’s out for a good reason.
