Does this umpire crew have any idea where the strike zone is? According to gameday those last 3 pitches were in the exact same spot
Gotta figure this is Lowe’s last inning. Up to what, 96 pitches now?
April 25th, 20093:13 pm
Technically, the middle of the lineup is 4-5-6.
Nevertheless, it matters not.
Grays are still worn on the road as well. But it looks like they wear the full blue caps with the grays
Toyko, was talking about Kotch, Frenchy, and Diaz obviously. That’s the MIDDLE!
April 25th, 20093:14 pm
3 spot isnt middle of the lineup
These unis make me think of spring training.
I got home half an hour ago, and I’ve enjoyed catching up on the last two hours worth of comments much more than I did with the games earlier in the week.
April 25th, 20093:15 pm
Anyone notice – Yunel did not flip his bat after the HR. Threw it off to the side quite softly. Probably all the talk about him toning it down (and the HBP) had some effect.
Last few games we have had efficient hitting – almost as many runs as hits (aided by walks) – probably we will start to get timely hitting after all
Yes, perhaps I should read the entire sentence before answering. lol
April 25th, 20093:16 pm
Dickerson has had a really bad day.
Is it his birthday?
Il Cattivo – As I stated earlier, he’d toned it down a lot this year. I’ve been looking for it, and I’ve only see a couple of bat flips. And they weren’t even big ones like in the past. He’s very obviously made an effort to dull it down.
A reconnaissance food mission was fruitful — I found the Montgomery Inn stand up on fourth level. Outstanding BBQ, though not nearly as good as in the actual restaurant itself. Great place to eat when you’re in Cincy.
April 25th, 20093:17 pm
man dude is dealing
As good as the offense has been today…the best part really is another superior start by our starting pitching (Lowe could give a full 7 innings). JJ, Lowe, and V-quez are going to put up a lot of innings this year (so far) and this should allow our b-pen to perform more consistently (well).
April 25th, 20093:18 pm
I realize Lowe and Bobby want to get a good 7 innings out of this start, but I don’t want our #1 guy over doing it with a 7 run lead. Bring in Bennett. Nevermind…inning ova!
Run Heap Run
Way to go DROSS and DLOWE!
Fine, fine, OK- I get the picture. I thought about it after posting my intial remarks and realized I’d misinterpreted. I was thinking in terms of the run-producing 3-4-5 spots.
Geez, thought I was being reasonably lucid for four AM.
April 25th, 20093:19 pm
anyone that is up at 4am watching Braves baseball gets major props from me
HI my name is Garret Anderson and Im a flop!
Tokyo Bravo its ok everyone makes mistakes
Great play, Ross!
Mark in PA
April 25th, 20093:20 pm
Nice D by David Ross there- held on to the ball in the net for the third out.
109 pitches, 69 strikes, 8 K’s, 2 ER’s, and 4 hits. NICE WORK DLowe!
cabravesfan (3:01 pm): “finally- something on tv that resembles sports…Pens/ Flyers about to drop…”
Just remember, in baseball, it’s “Mar-TEEN”.
In hockey, it’s “Mar-TAN”.
The Mets found a team they can beat.
8-2 in the sixth over the Nats.
April 25th, 20093:21 pm
Well thank you, CA
Ross sucks…should have dropped it and let Lowe get the K…COME ON MAN!
This isn’t a complaint about today’s game, but looking long term, how long can we get away with putting Kotchman in clean-up if McCann and GA stay on the shelf?
Mark- most of us have a TV. Most of us are watching the game. If they don’t have a TV they may have the radio on.. we know how he made the 3rd out
Yeah, the Mets can beat the Nats in April. Not so much the last week of September
April 25th, 20093:22 pm
Sorry, but I disagree on this one. How many times has Yunel pitched a fit after getting hit by a pitch? Just like Chipper said-If you hang over the plate, expect to get hit. Take your $%^$#*& base and be done with it. It doesn’t need to be made into an emotional incident every &*(%$&#@ time (LEW)
I agree. Get over it. You can’t have your cake and eat it too. If you are gonna crowd the plate you hafta know the pitcher is gonna buzz you once in a while, plus you’re more likely to get hit accidentally cause you’re so close.
April 25th, 20093:23 pm
Another BB Shafer!
Another walk by Schafer. Wow, this guy needs to be the leadoff hitter.
P-Town Brave (Calling For Schafer To Leadoff)
Another really solid AB for Jordan…
Still think we ought to refer to Schafer as “The Elfin One”. Something about those ears…
April 25th, 20093:24 pm
but looking long term, how long can we get away with putting Kotchman in clean-up if McCann and GA stay on the shelf? (choozer)
Evidently, we hope that if Escobar doesn’t attract attention by showing a pulse and a personality, no one will notice that a guy who can’t hit homers is batting cleanup
April 25th, 20093:25 pm
Time for Norton to ground out.
At last a hit by Norton.
There you go Norty. at the bullpen.
Greg Norton, finally off the schneid with a lined double to L-C gap
Norton RBI double! Now that was definitely double pits to chesty!
April 25th, 20093:26 pm
Needed to see that from Greg.
Schafer has improved a lot since his 2ndweek. More walks and doesnt swing on the inside-high fastballs.
Yo – Norton just came out of his slump.
no most of us are NOT watching the game. it’s an early game, and many Bravos fans live outside their area.
Bout time Nort gets a hit.. His first hit of the season is also his first RBI of the season.
Attaway to get off the schnide Nahton.
The dam has broken now. Norton with an RBI double.
Frank from KS
April 25th, 20093:27 pm
Isn’t Frank Thomas still unsigned? How bout the Braves bringing him in for Kotchman?
Well…maybe not. Thomas has been more of an DH these past years. Don’t know how he’d hold up playing 1st base now, this late in his career.
Lowe’s eight K today gave him 1,300 for career
I don’t live in the atl area
April 25th, 20093:28 pm
Whoops sorry DOB for the copycattin’
Didn’t see it …..honest.
Oh hey this one may actually be done before the draft starts.
I was talking to Norton about his hitless start to the seaosn before yesterday’s game. He said he thought about trying to bunt the other day, “but there was no one to run for me.”
April 25th, 20093:29 pm
It looks like the Braves are finally breaking their slump, or maybe its just the ballpark…
But either way, anyone else have a problem with this Braves staff. I can’t believe how much I was against bringing in Lowe at the beginning of the offseason, he was spectacular again today.
April 25th, 20093:30 pm
I kind of like this double pits to chesty crap. It used to annoy me as well, but then Original Jon went postal about it the other day, and I finally appreciated the humor of it
HI my name is Garret Anderson and Im a flop!-
Then you should know that a lot of us are not getting the game on TV today and appreciate the updates
Poll….KJ or JS for leadoff?
April 25th, 20093:31 pm
I can only imagine what this blog would be like if Norton laid down a pinch-hit bunt and was thrown out.
love Norton’s sense of humor
KJ over JS for leadoff. for now.
I agree KJ isnt ideal there, but it’s too early to shove JS there.
April 25th, 20093:32 pm
I don’t live in the atl area and I still see them on sportssouth
why was Hoss taken out? Just because of the lead, or is something goin on?
April 25th, 20093:33 pm
I’m glad this is a day game. No ballgame to interrupt draft proceedings.
Sportssouth is blacked out outside the region for Saturday day games
DOB@3:28 – Norton’s a card! I like that guy.
I like the 1-2-3 from flaherty here…don’t need to prolong this.
well isnt that nice for you, garrett. i live in Montana, and Sportsouth is blacked out. Thanks for playing.
April 25th, 20093:34 pm
Nice 1-2-3 inning EOF. Chipper taken out because they’re up 8 runs!
Wow O’Flaherty just blew their best hitters away. Quick inning.
why was Hoss taken out? Just because of the lead, or is something goin on? (superhoo)
he’s out back making sure there’s a bus available to a throw a teammate under
April 25th, 20093:35 pm
Rico Brogna?? I can’t believe I forgot about him. Wonder what happend to him… nevermind, I can look it up on the net. Of course the good bloggers here don’t do that, right?
whatever I am watching on sportsouth and I am watching the game. not blacked out here
April 25th, 20093:36 pm
And its even in HD. go figure
As I said before, I had a feeling the Braves were getting some good stuff when they signed Lowe.
April 25th, 20093:37 pm
The_Superhoo – It must be the lead and the fact that he had a couple of knocks on his leg and ankle. DOB commented on that earlier and the fact that it was purple. Any rest has got to be welcome.
Rico Brogna (from wikipedia)-
Brogna retired in 2001 and currently works as a scout for the Arizona Diamondbacks, and as the head boys basketball coach at his high school alma mater. He has two children. He was coaching for the Nonnewaug Chiefs, a high school football team in Woodbury, Connecticut. Soon after the conclusion of the 2008 football season, Brogna resigned as coach of the Chiefs and took a job as a football coach at Wesleyan University.
That’s right, Braveheart.
Well, it’s that…or maybe he’s just getting ready to duke it out with Lowe over the plunking of Votto. Chipper is a man of principle.
April 25th, 20093:38 pm
Frenchy finally with his hit. 1st and 2nd! Diaz up for the wiff.
well i’m thrilled for you then, garrett. enjoy the game. the rest of us will continue reading updates here.
I know it’s been mentioned on here more than once before, but it really just hit me how much Kotchman reminds me of Bream with that swing and his approach.
Well Frank from KS, it looks like you were correct.
April 25th, 20093:39 pm
I wonder what Francoeur’s BABIP is this year. It’s gotta be pretty good.
There you go Frenchy. Just get some hits baby.
nolie, would you mind giving us an assessment of Donovan Tate and Shelby Miller? (STEVE from OH)
pretty short clips my friend.
I definitely liked Miller better than Tate. Miller looks fluid, balanced with good to excellent mechanics. Of course I can’t tell anything about speed or pitch variety from that, but if they are in line with other HS RHers, I think he is impressive.
Tate I’d pass on. We don’t need another young OFer IMO enough to draft someone with questionable hitting future. If he is available still they might take him though, under the best-available-athlete mantra,
Smyrna Jim … good point @ 3:14. I’m also noticing that the front office personnel and coaching staff are being allowed to keep their jobs, a little longer.
Another broken bat for Jeff- this one a bloop single to center. How many has he broken today?
April 25th, 20093:40 pm
Okay I will enjoy WATCHING the game, thanks
Steve from OH
April 25th, 20093:41 pm
I like our chances in this game. We’ve blown a 7 run lead, but, so far this year, no 8 run leads.
April 25th, 20093:42 pm
Bennett takes Boyer’s place on the bubble.
schafer is really racking up the walks lately
JJ, Vaz and Lowe have given our bullpen some good rest. As long as tomorrow goes off well we should head into the cards series all ready.
April 25th, 20093:43 pm
Dang I love Hoss as much as anybody but player of the game? Uh how bout D Lowe.
Thanks nolie. I wish the clips were longer too. Short clips aside, would you like to venture an opinion on Miller vs. Wheeler vs. Matzek? I’m reading that a lot of people think we’ll take Zack Wheeler.
April 25th, 20093:44 pm
Yep. Frenchy’s BABIP was .327 coming into today. Jeff posted .337 in 2007 and .337 in 2005.
This leads me to believe that Frenchy really needs good luck to have a good season. If his current luck holds, he’ll have another good one in 2009. Here’s hoping that his changes at the plate will help avoid such a heavy reliance on luck now and in the future.
Fact is, Chipper has talked personally and privately to Escobar about his behavior last year after a similar incident. Easy to understand why he distanced himself last night – “say something once, why say it again?” (RANDOM)
I agree with that post. I know he has talked to Esco B4. I also think baseball fights are stupid . Great chance for someone to get hurt. Just what we need lose another good player when McCann is hurting. Makes no damn sense at all.
Two hits today off the bench- Norton and Infante. That’s pretty good too.
Anybody know if Martin Prado has emergency catcher on his resume? I seem to recall he does, but I may be wrong.
April 25th, 20093:45 pm
With ya on that one Heap
Loaf Garret on a blackberry from the DL
The real me is much nicer than today’s impostor, by the way.
I used the Baseball Reference numbers, but…yeah, Steve.
We talk baseball, other sports, music, movies, BBQ and whatever (except politics or religion)
