I’m sympathetic with what is going on with McCann, however, I don’t understand the lack of options. If it’s an infection, it does likely need treatment to get that part straighted out. If it’s an infection, probably don’t want to do eye surgery right now. If it’s an infection, a contact is only going to further enhance the chance that the infection will linger on.
Once the infection clears up, geez put some glasses on the guy! This club makes enough money to spring for a pair of customs specs to get him through until surgery or contacts or whatever.
Sure, glasses might not be something McCann wants to deal with but the fact is HE COULD play with glasses.
Darrell Porter and a number of other MLB catchers have worn glasses over the years….. it can be done.

It’s not a matter of whether Volquez’s plunking was intentional or not. It’s a matter of baseball being an effed up game these days when it comes to retaliation for wrongs (real or perceived). In a situation like this, one team gets one free shot a day. Lowe took his.
Anyway, if I were Arroyo, I’d plunk Chipper on his hand for being a wuss. After they throw me out, I’d go into the dugout, grab my guitar, and hit Chipper over the head with it for not having his teammate’s back.

Perfect time for intentionally hitting – 2 out no one on fastball.
To everyone talking about chipper – he is the team’s vocal leader now. He cant possibly come out and say – Yeah we told Lowe to take care of it tomorrow. I am sure they had discussions about this or if not Lowe thought enough of it to do it himself. Somehow I think message was sent to everyone concerned – Esco, Reds rest of the league. Good to see D-Lowe taking up “The Ace” duties.

just to way in on the Chipper/ Yunel comments if I may- I’ve got no problem with Yunel’s temper and I’ve got no problem with Chipper’s comments. Yunel is going to blow up every now and then and Chipper has to make sure he doesn’t hurt the team when he errupts. I have no doubt Chipper didn’t say anything to the media that he did not say to Yunel first.

Hardly. I’m making a distinction between behavior that directly affects a game and behavior that does not. Not a mystery that Chipper (or any other pro) would react differently to each.

I see your point — I just think you’re wrong. First, it’s an insignificant distinction when compared to the real one of whether the behavior might affect a game. Second, it’s a false distinction — he took on Smoltz, didn’t he?

Glad to see the offense breaking out today. Hope it continues instead of what happened last week. Remember scoring 11 on Sunday of last week and then going 3 games and only scoring in 3 seperate innings against the Nats?
Now about last night. I was ticked about the Braves 6th inning.
Schafer led off and got on base. The Braves were leading by a run. They were continuing their offense struggles and had scored two runs on bases loaded walks. They still did not have a hit. When you are struggling offensively, you HAVE to try and make something happen.
Shafer, perhaps the fastest guy on the team, on base, no outs. Geez Bobby, try to help things along! Send the guy! Try to steal a base! Try a hit and run!
What did Bobby do? Nothing. Sat there waiting for the 3 run homer. did the Braves score? Nope.
Thanks goodness Frenchy homered later and Diaz drove in a run.
I just want Bobby to do SOMETHING instead of sitting there just waiting for something to happen instead of trying to MAKE something happen.
That’s when a manager can do something besides just filling out the lineup card.
