P-Town, what would have been acceptable then? It will just never be good enough for some people on here
Oh, dear. Lowe hits Votto. Both benches warned.
Steve from OH
April 25th, 20091:28 pm
Lowe plunks Votto w/the fastball. Warnings issued.
there’s your payback
Bravos up 2-0 already?!? Clearly, I need to see more of these 2:00am Braves games.
Well, you know, when they’re on, anyway
And warnings are immediately issued to both dugouts and to Lowe after he nails Joey Votto in the right ribcage with two outs and none on in the bottom of the first.
Joe Simpson just said “That’s baseball. I’m a happy guy now!”
That made me smile.
April 25th, 20091:29 pm
Way to go Lowe! He’s got the heart of a winner which is missing in so many Braves, (like Chipper).
Lowe has Escobar’s back yea baby.
April 25th, 20091:30 pm
Now THAT’S a good teammate!
Chop It Up All-star
I have a new found respect for Lowe now!! Chipper not so much.
They Are Called Glasses
I’m sympathetic with what is going on with McCann, however, I don’t understand the lack of options. If it’s an infection, it does likely need treatment to get that part straighted out. If it’s an infection, probably don’t want to do eye surgery right now. If it’s an infection, a contact is only going to further enhance the chance that the infection will linger on.
Once the infection clears up, geez put some glasses on the guy! This club makes enough money to spring for a pair of customs specs to get him through until surgery or contacts or whatever.
Sure, glasses might not be something McCann wants to deal with but the fact is HE COULD play with glasses.
Darrell Porter and a number of other MLB catchers have worn glasses over the years….. it can be done.
Weak grounder to Kotch, flips to Lowe…3 down.
April 25th, 20091:31 pm
I thought Chipper said that Yunel’s plunking was not intentional!?!? I guess Derek Lowe truly understands that part of baseball! Way to go DLowe….give this team some attitude!
I am a big fan of Lowe! I wonder if Bobby instructed him to do it. Chipper is a great player but sucks as a teammate..
April 25th, 20091:33 pm
Shafer scalds one to Votto, nice play. One down.
Good for Lowe. Not saying anything needs to be made of it, but way to have your SS’s back and do it like a professional (low hit).
April 25th, 20091:34 pm
Ross grounder to third, Encarnacion throws from his knees…into the stands. Ross to second.
Larry Wayne Jones, Jr.
C’mon…why all the hate being spewed my way? I got Yunel’s back…
April 25th, 20091:35 pm
Can imagine the converstaion at first if Lowe gets on, haha.
I am a big fan of Lowe! I wonder if Bobby instructed him to do it. Chipper is a great player but sucks as a teammate.
Do you moonlight as a fly-on-the-wall in the Braves’ Clubhouse?
Arroyo walks Lowe! Ha!
Lowe walks. 1st and 2nd, 1 out, KJ up.
April 25th, 20091:36 pm
DOB…KJ looks like he has put on some weight…
something tells me Volquez’ fastball hurt more last night than d lowe’s sinker or whatever that was
It’s not a matter of whether Volquez’s plunking was intentional or not. It’s a matter of baseball being an effed up game these days when it comes to retaliation for wrongs (real or perceived). In a situation like this, one team gets one free shot a day. Lowe took his.
Anyway, if I were Arroyo, I’d plunk Chipper on his hand for being a wuss. After they throw me out, I’d go into the dugout, grab my guitar, and hit Chipper over the head with it for not having his teammate’s back.
Someone must’ve told the Reds that Braves pitchers are really good hitters. Vazquez walks and Lowe walks in back-to-back days? Reds, dudes….
April 25th, 20091:38 pm
I guess Lowe just told Chipper how he felt about Escobar getting hit. And I guarantee Chipper won’t have a damn thing to say about Lowe.
KJ 3-6 FC. 1st and 3rd, 2out for Yunel.
April 25th, 20091:39 pm
Chop Chop, now THAT was good (1:36 p.m.). Made me laugh.
Derek Lowe comes from those heated Red Sox-Yankees rivalies. He knows that you must backup your team mate. With guys like Lowe we may have one more than 1 championship through these years.
I guess Chipper was upset about Escobar since it delayed his birthday party at hooters….he had to spend more time at the ballpark then he wanted…
April 25th, 20091:40 pm
Escobar, doing some Saturday raking.
Yunel RBI Single! Now that’s double pits to chesty!
Yunel rips a single down the LF line, Ross scores. 3-0 Braves.
Good one Chop Chop.
P-Town Brave (Let Your Bobby, TP, Snitker, Chino Go)
Maybe Volquez pissed off Yunel a bit too much last night
April 25th, 20091:41 pm
HOSS 3 run HR! 6-0 Braves! DP to C!
Shoulda plunked him.
Chipper just hit a three-run bomb.
Yahtzee. 6-0 Bravos on a long shot to R-C by Chipper.
Wow…get into one #10
That’s called ownership. Not long-term lease, but ownership.
Chipper is 11-for-22 with three homers off Arroyo.
Looks like Chipper really killed this rally in the second.
April 25th, 20091:42 pm
I’m watching game on gameday box thing cause it’s not showing here. 3 Run Home Run Chipper
Perfect time for intentionally hitting – 2 out no one on fastball.
To everyone talking about chipper – he is the team’s vocal leader now. He cant possibly come out and say – Yeah we told Lowe to take care of it tomorrow. I am sure they had discussions about this or if not Lowe thought enough of it to do it himself. Somehow I think message was sent to everyone concerned – Esco, Reds rest of the league. Good to see D-Lowe taking up “The Ace” duties.
I should have known. I finally decide to bench Chipper today on my fantasy team and he breaks out of his slump. A part of me is happy and the other part of me is mad as hell.
I guess Chipper thought today was his birthday…
Chipper just patted Escobar on the back…so, it is all good now…..perhaps, it has fired up the whole team…wake up a sleeping giant
Yup. The good vibes are flowing from across the Pacific… Arroyo’s got nuthin’ today.
That was a BOMB!!
Maybe the Volquez thing woke some players up down there in the visitor’s clubhouse…
Whatever it is, very nice to see #10 square one up…my how we’ve missed that!
April 25th, 20091:43 pm
Dammit Chipper, you make it impossible for me to stay mad at you!! Nice shot!!
Kotch flies to right. 3 outs.
Wow, the offense has waken up. Towering shot by Chipper, and another clutch hit by Escobar.
April 25th, 20091:44 pm
Now, if only Arroyo could be traded to every team the braves play the rest of the season, and start each one of the games.
really really hate FOX
April 25th, 20091:46 pm
Jay Bruce leadoff double off R-C wall.
Chipper hit a 3 run homer off Arroyo last year too…@ TF though
This is all very nice, but the real question is how to pacify my bride when I try to explain why I need my rest today, after a long night of Braves baseball followed by the NFL draft. She actually thinks I intend to wake up sometime prior to noon!
ca…what do you like…positive thinking
April 25th, 20091:47 pm
just to way in on the Chipper/ Yunel comments if I may- I’ve got no problem with Yunel’s temper and I’ve got no problem with Chipper’s comments. Yunel is going to blow up every now and then and Chipper has to make sure he doesn’t hurt the team when he errupts. I have no doubt Chipper didn’t say anything to the media that he did not say to Yunel first.
For anyone blacked out or with no TV, you can find a radio broadcast here:
April 25th, 20091:48 pm
Encarnacion grounder to short…no advance. 1 out.
what do I like? watching baseball games
Derrick Lowe is our ACE!….no doubt about it!
April 25th, 20091:49 pm
Damn it, lowe.
2-run homer by Alex Gonzalez.
April 25th, 20091:50 pm
On a hanging slider.
I wonder if Smoltz misses the Braves
Why is it that we can’t get Alex FREAKIN Gonzalez out?! The guy was hitting .125 coming into the series!
April 25th, 20091:51 pm
Braveheart (1:08 pm): “You’re getting so lost in the trees, you’re not seeing the forest.”
Hardly. I’m making a distinction between behavior that directly affects a game and behavior that does not. Not a mystery that Chipper (or any other pro) would react differently to each.
“See the bigger picture point of what I’m saying.”
I see your point — I just think you’re wrong. First, it’s an insignificant distinction when compared to the real one of whether the behavior might affect a game. Second, it’s a false distinction — he took on Smoltz, didn’t he?
“Now, as to the inside being taken away from Vazquez, dude, it was taken away from Volzquez just the same, a guy who doesn’t have the control Vazquez does. Volzquez, in fact, walks almost twice as many batters per 9 innings than Vazquez. Who’s likely to be more harmed than by having the inside taken away? It’s clearly Volquez.”
So it’s okay to tie one of our pitcher’s hands behind his back if we tie the other pitcher’s hand as well?
Tortured logic, my man — different strokes, I guess.
Braveheart (1:13 pm): “Uh, Random, how often do you see the Braves retaliate? Hudson is about the only one who would get his teammate’s backs in that regard. So Escobar didn’t prevent his team since they only have two guys who would retaliate. One is on the DL. The other is in AAA.”
How about that new fella — Valquez? Vasquez? He plunked 6 last year — 75 in his 353 start career.
Escobar’s behavior removed the option of retaliation — whether the Braves actually would have or not is a separate discussion.
Jamjob single into right.
We get beat by Alex Gonzalez again.
April 25th, 20091:52 pm
Chipper speaks great Spanish:
Chipper: “Don’t do-oh that stuff-oh, el caballo loco.”
Yunel: “Neil Young con Crazy Horse?”
Arroyo sac bunt. Runner on 2nd, 2 down.
cabravesfan …. Have you tried to pick the game up on the radio, via the computer?
April 25th, 20091:54 pm
Dickerson lazy fly to Diaz. 3 down.
April 25th, 20091:55 pm
Yay – Matty didnt lose it in the sun.
Glad to see the offense breaking out today. Hope it continues instead of what happened last week. Remember scoring 11 on Sunday of last week and then going 3 games and only scoring in 3 seperate innings against the Nats?
Now about last night. I was ticked about the Braves 6th inning.
Schafer led off and got on base. The Braves were leading by a run. They were continuing their offense struggles and had scored two runs on bases loaded walks. They still did not have a hit. When you are struggling offensively, you HAVE to try and make something happen.
Shafer, perhaps the fastest guy on the team, on base, no outs. Geez Bobby, try to help things along! Send the guy! Try to steal a base! Try a hit and run!
What did Bobby do? Nothing. Sat there waiting for the 3 run homer. did the Braves score? Nope.
Thanks goodness Frenchy homered later and Diaz drove in a run.
I just want Bobby to do SOMETHING instead of sitting there just waiting for something to happen instead of trying to MAKE something happen.
That’s when a manager can do something besides just filling out the lineup card.
Erin Andrews has great arms…
April 25th, 20091:57 pm
Tom O’Hawke (or anyone)-
any idea what station?
Frenchy flys to left.
April 25th, 20091:58 pm
Matt Diaz out on a nubber to Arroyo, which he claims hit his foot. It didn’t.
April 25th, 20091:59 pm
Is it wrong to badly want to eat a quesadilla at 3:00am?
Or is this on par with DOB chowing on Skyline chili after one in the morning?
Varsity Chili Dogg
April 25th, 20092:00 pm
It’s very smart for the ground ball pitcher to look out for the ones retrieving his ground balls. D Lowe has been around this game long enough to know what had to be done. I like him on my team.
Funny….how Joe Simpson…..rates Jordan’s defense a B+….
Corky- can’t believe you’re looking at Erin Andrews’ arms. There’s more to a woman than just her arms you know…
Nice eye, Shafer! Thought that was strike three.
April 25th, 20092:01 pm
Schafer works a walk, good AB.
lets see him take a base
April 25th, 20092:02 pm
Corky..would have hit that pitch out of the stadium..McFannnnnnnnn
Ross flies to center.
…. or not
April 25th, 20092:03 pm
I also like the fact that Erin Andrews has grown her hair out…dirty
Frank from KS
April 25th, 20092:04 pm
CorkylikesBeer re: your 1:55 post
Erin has a great package, period.
