McFann: did you ever notice when BMac doesn’t play, he acts as the official batting helmet taker-offer for certain players?
I’ll say good night early, I know you’re out when the game is over. Don’t you know this is absolutely killing him. Let’s hope we have good “eye” news tomorrow.
Along with Chipper and Furcal, I remember seeing Andruw at Luther Williams, you could tell with all three at that level that they were going to eventually make the show.
As a kid, I remember getting to play T-ball league games on the field (there would be like four games going on at one time around the outfield) when the Pirates had a minor league team there. The Macon Pirate players would actually serve as the umpires in the games. Very cool experience as a young baseball fan.
Wow. I’m an umpire for high school baseball and have been through training with some of the pro umps. I don’t think I’ve ever seen an ump this inconsistent with his strike zone. I usually take up for the umps, because it is really a hard job, especially with balls being thrown so hard with so much movement and many close plays that are really just difficult to see, but this guy is pretty bad considering he’s a professional.
At the risk of repeating another’s insight, I figure if Escobar had kept his cool and just taken his base after being plunked in the 3rd, the umpires would not have warned both teams that the next HBP would result in both the pitcher’s and manager’s ejection.
And then, Vazquez could have “accidentally” plunked Gonzalez in the 4th and struck out Volquez. Instead, Gonzalez singled in the tying run with 2 on and 2 out.
Escobar needs to bring it down a notch — I hope the Braves’ Kangaroo Court makes an appropriate ruling on his behavior tonight.
Gonzo hit 95-96 MPH four times in the last two ABs. That 85 MPH slider was filthy coming off of the heater to the last batter for the second K of the inning. Good Save Gonzo!
spotts …. I told you after the win against the Nats, when they walked us in a run with the bases loaded, that it still didn’t make up for that horrendous Phillie loss. This victory just got me a lot closer, to forgetting that disaster.
Gonzo looked impressive tonight, Frenchy having two walks and a homer, and a win with four hits, wait when the rest of the sticks get going. Maybe some of our pitching mojo went down and hit the Marlins pen tonight!
An honest question. Don’t you feel a little silly with your last statement about Bobby doing a good job, after just an inning or so earlier, you were slamming him for bringing in Soriano first.
This is why sometimes it is best to just hold your tongue, or in this case, keyboard; and not make so many rash statements.
Telling you this not trying to be confrontational, but trying to get you to see how silly some of those posts sound to lots of us. Patience, my friend. Just let it come to you…..
Bobby makes a lot of stupid moves..and made a lot of stupid moves in this game…but the extra work…for Gonzo…seems to have paid off for Gonzo…i was merely stating that it turned out to be a good move…after I questioning a lot of his moves. Nothing wrong with that.
Well, the offense is still stink-o. Another qality start by Vasquez- more of the pitching not losing than the Braves beating them. (Frenchy, of course, being the exception). Not going to win two out of three in Cincy that way, I’ll bet.
Great to see two one-run road wins, though! The “O” is showing patience, esp. the bottom of the order, which is good. Hope that this is a sign of things turning around.
Me too, spotts. I didn’t think we were gonna get to see it. No matter what happens in his career, in 50 years that will still be my favorite McCann moment lol.
I remember back in the 90’s when the pitching was better than the hitting….looks like that again. The question begs to be asked is our pitching better than our hitting?
Thanks for that link to GameDay. I was not questioning that you saw him at 95, just that the TV’s radar was showing 91 – 92. But that has to be knee buckling at whatever speed to see that breaking ball coming in 12 or 15 mph slower!
Tex strikes out to end the inning on a 3-2 count with runners on second and third. Papelbon blew that one by him, high and hard. I thought it would have been a ball, walking him.
It’s very likely that McCann is going on DL tomorrow, and he made it sound like he’s decided to have the surgery. He wants to get this squared away now, he said, miss a couple of weeks and get back, rather than keep trying to fix it with contacts, etc.
Sammons has been called from Gwinnett. Again, it’s not definite yet, but sounds pretty close to definite. As Bobby said, he didn’t anticipate anything changing overnight. McCann sounds like, in his mind, he’s already decided to have Lasik.
keylargo what zephyr 8 said, MLB Gametracker. Typically, these are fairly accurate. Perhaps Cincy turned down the speed gun a bit for the Brave’s pitchers at the top of each inning to mess with their confidence.
4-3 win on the road sounds like days of yore during the 14 year streak. And sure enough a trip to the boxscore showed the result. Pitching, pitching, pitching. three BB’s and 12 SO’s by BRAVES pitching. Nine BB’s and 10 SO’s for CINCINATI. And hits by KOTCHMAN and FRANCOUER.
Did the Braves seriously just win back to back one run road games?
