I’m just curious as to how old you are MariettaDerek…If you could enlighten us with your double pits to chesty age, I think it would interest all the denizens
From what I understand, that perfect game was in a season in which Bunning got overused down the stretch and the Phillies blew the pennant.
First perfecto in the NL in over 80 years. Wow!
Run Heap Run
But Yuni, you miss great nuggets of information like the fact that Schafer is single and that Buddy Carlyle likes Pearl Jam.
Here’s a question, and I know it’s early in the year and his career. But who would you rather have:
KK at $24 million for the next three years?
Or Javy at $24 million for the next two (I think that’s his contract)?
I know it’s been speculated that Javy might be trade bait when Hanson/Morton/et.al come up. But, if he pitches serviceably enough that there’s some interest in him on the trade market, I’d like to see KK be the one that’s shopped around a little instead.
Again, I know it’s early. But I’ve really liked what I’ve seen from Vazquez and am nonplussed about most of what I’ve seen from KK.
April 21st, 20099:06 pm
We might have to start thinking of names for a Krotchy fan club…that could get interesting.
Game update, please.
Also, Carroll mentioned Jordan using some tips from Jimy Williams since he was in Spring Training as a Special Instructor. Is he affiliated with the team in any official capacity now that the season has started?
Once again, Kotchman will lead the team in hits this year.
Blaine Boyer, the Lead Destroyer
April 21st, 20099:07 pm
MariettaDerek, please, enough with the double pits to chesty crap. Every time you write it, I die a little inside.
3-1 Braves, Kotchman on second, two outs in the fourth.
3-1 top of the 4th 2 outs and Logan Schafer up to bat.
April 21st, 20099:08 pm
Kotchman doing it all today. He looks like he’s in the zone.
And they’re walking him to get to KK.
Bad idea pitching around JS..for KK….BAD IDEA!
April 21st, 20099:10 pm
Fair enough. Don’t think I could have gotten through the year without knowing Schafer’s single. DOB alluded to him being quite the stud and all in high school. But to be honest? Dude kinda bears a striking resemblance to Gumby.
Maybe Gameday could add a feature that flashes interesting facts about players next to their mugshots. You know, like “Chipper is known on the MIB blog as ‘Hoss’ and hates it.” Or “Yunel frosts his tips with ‘Just For Men’ Blonde.” That might make up for some of the witticisms I miss out on.
kotchman at 2nd = not really a runner in scoring position…
I retract my previous statement.
I wouldn’t be surprised if KK has a complete no trade clause.
April 21st, 20099:11 pm
Blaine Boyer blahty blah, that’s because the Braves are winning. see how this works?
Krotch’s….yeah, not even going to go there.
True hubris, but maybe Schafer at 1st is a runner in scoring position. Ha.
April 21st, 20099:12 pm
Jeff321, the braves NEVER give no trade clauses. Clearly you didn’t read this blog at all in the offseason….
Oh I’m sure you get your fill of wit here on the ole blog. Another advantage for you is, you don’t have to sit thru 18 episodes of “In My Own Words: Bobby Cox” in 2 days due to rain delays.
George Washington won the presidents race tonight, btw.
I’d like to keep Kawakami around and if there are 5 better starters than him maybe we put him in the bullpen.
Randy Johnson fan
April 21st, 20099:13 pm
“Jim Bunning has a no-hitter and a perfect game on his resume, which is cited by more than a few Kentuckians as a reason why they vote for him.”
Hey – Randy Johnson had a perfect game and a no-hitter. We need a new governor soon out here in California.
Randy is my man!
(Interesting anectdote: Randy’s home is in Arizona these days. He got a condo near AT&T park in San Francisco and he bicycles to and from home games. So not only is he environmentally conscious, he provides an interesting sight: a six foot 10 scruffy dude pedalling down the street.)
zmerk13, I never read this blog in the offseason. So if you see someone acting like me its a fraud!
April 21st, 20099:16 pm
You got me. I guess I should simply avoid the blog with any loss. Being a fellow journalist, I’ve come to realize how insane and irrational message boards can becom with any loss by the team I cover or the Braves.
You’re doing a great job, by the way.
KK threw 5 strikes to kearns…and somehow walks him 4-1…..Squeezed i think.
KK getting wild.
April 21st, 20099:17 pm
Ha. Kenshin learns players through playstation.
April 21st, 20099:18 pm
This ump is incredible..has stop calling the strikes on the corner…asinine.
April 21st, 20099:19 pm
Wow he is calling the outside strike again….just not for strike 3 i bet.
April 21st, 20099:21 pm
IS THE OUTSIDE CORNER A STRIKE OR NOT!!! MAKE UP YOUR MIND!!!
April 21st, 20099:23 pm
Still 3-1 going into the 5th.
Kawakami tips his curveball big-time. You’ll be able to pick it up. Watch how he releases the ball from his hand about 4-6 inches lower than his release point on all his other pitches. Not to mention the arm action is naturally different when you throw a curveball.
Eric from MO
DirtyYuni if I was going to trade one, it would be Vazquez. Especially if we wait til offseason because then he would only have a year left.
Now if we could get him to sign an extension then maybe I keep him and trade Lowe. You could get alot more out of Lowe than either Vazquez or Kawakami. Maybe you can hold a team hostage like the Padres did with us and the Cubs. Only difference actually pull the trigger and trade Lowe. Like I said though thats only if Vazquez pitches good and he signs an extension. By the way, in my ideal world we keep all them and just put Kawakami in the pen if we have 5 better starters.
KK loves to make things interesting. Good job of pitching around the walks and striking out the pitcher, though.

Rally McTurtle has a friend snapping turtle…I’ve never seen him, but Rally’s told me about him, and that is what he looks like when he’s mad.
April 21st, 20099:25 pm
Let’s go boys! Top of the order! Let’s get a little double pits to chesty with it!
Pittsburgh is batting in the bottom of the 8th, still beating Florida, 3-2.
sorry Jeff i am not criticizing you, I looked back and it sounded kind of bad. I was trying to refer to how much we heard about the the damn no trade clause with Peavy!
I wouldnt trade either…but KK is almost untradable due to his race. I bet he brings in a lot of money/fans being Japanese. No joke.
April 21st, 20099:27 pm
Love how bloggers think they can see someone tipping their pitches, even though no major league manager or players have figured it out…either every person in MLB is blind or some blogger on here is full of sh!t.
zmerk13, no offense taken.
April 21st, 20099:28 pm
McFann :Ô: :Ô:, that turtle could take both cabravesfan’s dog and Ease’s cat, at the same time. However, I like cats and dogs. Any chance we could sic the turtle on MariettaDerek?
N8 Some people prefer their crow as the main dish. Me? I prefer mine as a side dish. Especially when the maind dish is a nice big bowl of sad.
I hear that’s Carlos Beltran’s favorite meal.
April 21st, 20099:29 pm
Kind of wished he would of slid in hard to take out the 2nd basemans legs…but then again I like kind of dirty baseball.
April 21st, 20099:30 pm
Walk the blind guy…he might be dangerous if he swings, LOL.
April 21st, 20099:31 pm
Eric from MO, was it Chipper that told Shane Reynolds (upon becoming a Brave) that he was tipping his pitches?
Amazing, how the coaches for the Astros (or whoever he was with before he was traded or releasd – don’t remember), didn’t figure it out, huh?
Sometimes things can get missed, I guess. If guys own pitching coaches and players don’t realize that a guys tipping his pitches, yet another player from another team figures it out? Sounds reasonable to me.
April 21st, 20099:32 pm
So just got home little bit ago. How has McCann looked when he has swung? All I have seen him do is walk so far.
April 21st, 20099:33 pm
Eric from MO, I’m pretty sure major league managers and players have figured it out because every time he’s thrown a curve today the hitters have known its coming.
April 21st, 20099:34 pm
McCann has only swung at one pitch so far.
Hello denizens. Just put the kiddos to bed and settling in to watch the rest of the game. Looks good so far, Kotchy has been clutch tonight and KK has been solid, as usual:)
I also noticed that to my chagrin, Marietta Derek is back with his crap:(
Great catch Schafer!
Nice grab, Schafer! Now that was DP to C!
April 21st, 20099:35 pm
Nice grab by Logan!
Marlins lose again to Pittsburgh. That’s their first series loss. Also, Andrew Miller goes on the DL. We’ll see how the Marlins play through this bit of misfortune.
N8 wasnt it also that Shane didnt do it when he was with the Astros. Didnt he accidently change the way he throw and didnt notice it. Kind of like when a batter is swinging different and dont notice it. Only difference a batter cant tip anything (unless your Andruw Jones and you tip yourself over).
Not a bad idea:)
April 21st, 20099:36 pm
SIX pitch inning for KK! WOOT!
Well least Pittsburgh is beating up the Marlins too! Maybe it isnt just us.
April 21st, 20099:37 pm
Esco flashes a little leather on that DP. KK through 5 with a chance for a win.
This game seems to be going at sub-light speed.
That a boy KK! DP! Did anyone notice Schafer let that ball drop rather than try to catch it…that was nice to see to give him the single…but not have trouble with it getting by him…smart move.
Wow, nice catch by the STUD in center field!
PWH I havent watched long, just the last two innings, however I have seen some curves they didnt hit that great.
April 21st, 20099:38 pm
Still 3-1 going into the 6th.
I am getting real annoyed with the lack of taking pitches. Kelly takes 2…out, Escobar takes 5…wow what do you know, base hit. Chipper takes 1…out (I give him a break because its Chipper). Kotchman takes 2…out. Should we be surprised with the results. One of two things are happening. We are either swinging at strikes and missing or getting bad hits, or we are swinging at balls. Either way, guys need to ease up.
April 21st, 20099:39 pm
Hmm…maybe we could arrange that…
Eric from MO–
The only time he swung, he hit into a double-play. A DP from our C was so not DP to C…
Sorry…I’ll go wash my hands for typing that…
Frank from KS
April 21st, 20099:40 pm
Don’t know if it’s already been mentioned on the blog…..but did any of ya see where Joey Devine is having season-ending surgery?
the White Sox cut ties with Mike McDougal. Twelve point something ERA this season so far. Not good but compared to Boyer….not bad.
Any chance the Braves pick him up and see what they can do with him to get him throwing right again? He used to be a pretty decent pitcher for the Royals. He was the Royals closer at one point before they shipped him to the White Sox.
Mike nice how you left out someone taking a walk. Makes your post seam better to someone not watching the game.
April 21st, 20099:41 pm
McCann did throw somebody out at third base trying to steal.
eric that would have been triple pits to chesty
April 21st, 20099:42 pm
Schafer! You ding dong!
Aw man. Got greedy there, kid.
Uh Oh. Hear it comes.
Schafer is a dumba$$ should have went triple all the way…you dont change your mind half way…he was easily at third if he went.
April 21st, 20099:43 pm
Mfin he would of been out there too.
April 21st, 20099:44 pm
that’s what I was gonna say Run Heap. Jordan was looking triple the whole way and after Dukes smothered the ball in center, he probably should have hit the brakes sooner.
Rookie trying to hard. But you got to love the speed.
I don’t even like the idea of a triple there. You have KK coming up. Chances are he’s not going to get you in either way. A single from KK would score you from 3rd OR 2nd. More important to turn the line-up over.
My mlb player took a dump.. trying to get it going again. What happened with Schafer?
April 21st, 20099:45 pm
No he would have been safe at third…the relay was dropped…and he fell half way…if he doesnt fall…and they drop the relay…he is there….it was the fall that killed him.
Schafer get gunned down by Dukes?
Eric from MO…I was referring to the top of the 5th. No Brave walked in that inning.
April 21st, 20099:46 pm
wow. Adam Dunn has the easiest looking swing I have ever seen
Blaine Boyer would have known what to do!
Never, ever, under any circumstances make the third out at third base.
KK gives up HR to Dunn. 3-2 Braves.
Guys need to tack on a run or two next inning.
Hmm I guess Adam Dunn can hit the fastball right down the middle?
April 21st, 20099:47 pm
We are up 3-2…why arent we going to the lockdown bullpen?
April 21st, 20099:48 pm
Thats a triple pits to chesty.
Mfin watch that again. He was rounding 2nd when it got to the relay man and Im pretty sure the relay man didnt drop it. He was out at 3rd. Now if he didnt fall he would still had been safe at 2nd.
I bet there aren’t many big boys like Adam in Japan…..
I told ya he’d be coming home! McCann – ya shoulda tried to block him from scoring.
Boot by Chipper. Looks like he took it off his bad thumb.
Chipper will be out of the lineup for three days after that one
April 21st, 20099:49 pm
I think that is an error. It bounced twice. However Nats announcer thinks its a hit.
Ah, I see Jeff Bennett warming up in the bullpen, eh?
Here we go.
