This blog has a number of posters who played D1, or in the minors, or scouted. Legit resumes. But you almost never hear them talk it up, unless someone else brings it up first, because they don’t have to. You only build cred here one way, and that’s with your content. Most of the guys with resumes that actually mean something have done that.
Carolina Gent (2:10 pm): “With all the comments regarding bunting, not bunting, etc, one thing is clear… Braves pitchers (see Lowe, Derek) typically do a poor job at sacrificing when called upon, and a failed sacrifice is about the worst-case scenario of all.”
Can’t single out Lowe — he, Jurrjens and Hudson all had 7 sac bunts last year; Campillo had 5.
This year, Vazquez has 3, Jurrjens 2 and Lowe 1. Only the Cards’ Wainright has more than 3 (4).
Frankie, you are going to read something like this: McCann went to a specialist and was refitted for another contact. Apparently he is going to try and plan tonight. We will know more closer to game time.
Let’s see, professional multi-million dollar sports team, multi-million dollar star player, every game counts, yet said star of said team is still waiting on an 8 am appt????
The longer this drags out, the more worried I become for Mac’s future.
I’m sure Mac’s not waiting, we just haven’t had anyone tell us what he found out yet. Carroll said first thing this morning that she would let us know when she got to the clubhouse today. If only Heap had a Twitter account like Barry Zito and Nick Swisher. :lol

HE’S NOT WAITING ON AN APPOINTMENT. My gawd people, his appointment lasted an hour. He’s been long gone. Like I said, he is going to try and play tonight.
This team blows. You can’t hit, the starting rotation looks shaky, (yes, I am saying that. Lowe can’t find the strike zone, Kawakami is going to get lit up as soon as teams have seen him a few times, and who is your 5th starter?), the bullpen is atrocious, your offense is impatient at the plate, swinging at the first pitches they see, and not making the opposing pitchers work, too many injury concerns, Chipper, McCann, Anderson, Escobar….yes Braves fans it is time to panic! Or maybe not, since this was nothing better than a .500 team to begin with. You better hope the Braves call up Hanson, fix the bullpen, and get a LF WITH pop. Getting beaten by Washington, and damn near swept by the Pirates is embarrasing, and is definetly the forshadowing of things to come. Bravs won’t compete until at least 2011.
kirkinga (2:11 pm): “Of course the problem is that you are using “all game situations” which is too broad.
. . .
“I think it’s very clever using “all of baseball” and “all game situations”, but what you really need to know is pitcher/catcher/baserunner/batter. Otherwise taking a macro view of a micro situation isn’t particularly helpful. IMHO.”
I agree 100% — you are correct. Of course it’s situational, and dependent on the specific players involved and their talents and capabilities.
But those were the terms of the discussion (which was about sac bunts more than about SBs). Rock ON was taking the position that with runners on 1st & 2nd, he would ALWAYS bunt them over, in all situations, regardless of who all was on deck, etc (“Take it every time regardless of who’s up.”).
the visit with the specialist went well for McCann. He was fitted with a contact for his left eye, that should fit better than the one he tried recently. He thinks he can play with this and get through to the end of the season and if he has to have more Lasik surgery he could have it then. His eyesight has changed in his left eye since the Lasik surgery and he’s more nearsighted in that eye. But he has no regrets for having it. He’s in the lineup tonight. I’m filing a story momentarily. Please click on it, so nobody gets on me for letting you guys know first on the blog.
You are calling our rotation shaky? Have you looked at yours lately buddy? Lowe was not good last night…but he still went 6 and gave up 3. KK is actually pitching well. There is a learning curve for him too ya know, and oh by the way our lineup is still yet to play more than three games together. We need to get healthy, and then we will show you. And by the way, you are staring up at the Fish too.
You got plenty of your own problems to be worrying about
McFann, close to Mac not the team. I never get on these things but when I read all the people freaking out I figured I would post something. I knew people wouldn’t believe it, but figured it was worth a try. If it was something negative I would have never posted, of course.

mets09wschamps…you are exactly why no one in baseball takes Met fans seriously. Your team is a half a game better than the Braves, yet you come on here spouting off about how bad our team is. You have one good pitcher…that’s it. Pelfrey, Maine, and Perez are all hit and miss. Maybe it’s time for Met fans to worry about their own problems for once. Unreal….good luck with Ollie Perez the next three years…LOL

Your post here – HE’S NOT WAITING ON AN APPOINTMENT. My gawd people, his appointment lasted an hour. He’s been long gone. Like I said, he is going to try and play tonight.
Thanks Carroll for taking care of the blog folk first. I will click on your story so you don’t get in trouble. You can’t be too careful. It sounds like they are looking for any reason to fire/layoff people over there!
News is bogus. Anyone could have made that prediction and hmm imagine that after losing to the Nats due to a lack of power, BMac is dying to get back in the lineup. That’s just like that dude or dudette that came on here a while back acting like he or she was youknowwho. simply bogus.
CB, no, because news said he was close to Mac, not the team. For obvious reasons, DOB and Carroll are close to the team as well, since they do cover them and all, you know.
Yeah, maybe I’ll break down and do it…what’s the harm…?
N Nine–
I’m very happy…hopefully this new contact works and he’ll start hitting like an All-Star Silver Slugger again!
Yeah, Rally McTurtle wanted to have a friend over…someone suggested trying two turtles, so I let him invite his friend.
Oh and uh, Wayne? Don’t look now, but <a href=”http://baltimore.orioles.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20090421&content_id=4358182&vkey=news_bal&fext=.jsp&c_id=bal”Freel is on the DL…
Probably someone in the newsroom, CB or some newsroom or blog somewhere that had someone in the clubhouse. I don’t think Carroll or DOB would talk to us rudely like that and I’m positive none of Mac’s family would. But the timing being just minutes before Carroll updated us suggests that it came from someone close to the paper rather than close to Mac. We’ve been wondering about it all day, if it were someone close to Mac they would have told us before 2 minutes after the media left to the clubhouse.
It is a shame that all the Braves’ hairdressers, manicurists, and personal assistants are not allowed in the clubhouse during the game. They all have to take their assigned seats in the stands. Too bad they don’t really care about baseball. They just care about having their respective players look their best. True professionals that they are.

If you are going to take a chance at keeping score, tonight’s definitely a night they could use the win!

Does anybody other than me think NEWS is DOB or CARROLL?

No, CB. DOB has stated that he’s never posted under another name – why start now. Plus, I’d say they’re both close to the team – not just Heap.

CB, no, because news said he was close to Mac, not the team. For obvious reasons, DOB and Carroll are close to the team as well, since they do cover them and all, you know.

Anyway, Jason Giambi’s GQ interview is great –

It is a shame that all the Braves’ hairdressers, manicurists, and personal assistants are not allowed in the clubhouse during the game. They all have to take their assigned seats in the stands. Too bad they don’t really care about baseball. They just care about having their respective players look their best. True professionals that they are.
