actually, my dog would probably be more interested in eating Petey then ease19’s cat…she is a terrier after all
I once scored 4 touchdowns in a football game for Polk High!!!!
April 21st, 20093:27 pm
Well does anyone have any news on McCann?
April 21st, 20093:29 pm
There are a lot of baseball versions of Al Bundy on this blog (you know what I mean
And they are easily recognizable…they’re the guys who are ALWAYS touting their presumed baseball resumes, working in a reference in nearly every post, or whatever. Braveheart isn’t one of them, if that was your inference.
This blog has a number of posters who played D1, or in the minors, or scouted. Legit resumes. But you almost never hear them talk it up, unless someone else brings it up first, because they don’t have to. You only build cred here one way, and that’s with your content. Most of the guys with resumes that actually mean something have done that.
Guys, Mac will be fine. Don’t worry and you might even expect him in the lineup tonight. Chill out!!!
April 21st, 20093:30 pm
It wouldn’t surprise me if Heap slept through the appointment we heard he was supposed to have yesterday and it had to be rescheduled for today.
April 21st, 20093:32 pm
Carolina Gent (2:10 pm): “With all the comments regarding bunting, not bunting, etc, one thing is clear… Braves pitchers (see Lowe, Derek) typically do a poor job at sacrificing when called upon, and a failed sacrifice is about the worst-case scenario of all.”
Can’t single out Lowe — he, Jurrjens and Hudson all had 7 sac bunts last year; Campillo had 5.
This year, Vazquez has 3, Jurrjens 2 and Lowe 1. Only the Cards’ Wainright has more than 3 (4).
April 21st, 20093:33 pm
You guys realize that worst case on McCann is that he is out for like a week and a half. I mean, that wouldn’t be as bad as it gets around here.
April 21st, 20093:34 pm
Mac had an appointment with a specialist at 8 am. I was hoping for an 11 am nothing to worry about statement. Hope everythings cool.
GSU – worst case scenero is a heck of a lot worse than that.
April 21st, 20093:35 pm
Heh heh…good point. Oh well, Petey cann have the cat then! I guess that means the cat gets the Gerbils…
Please…don’t scare me anymore than is absolutely necessary.
April 21st, 20093:36 pm
Frankie, you are going to read something like this: McCann went to a specialist and was refitted for another contact. Apparently he is going to try and plan tonight. We will know more closer to game time.
You heard it here first, guaranteed.
April 21st, 20093:37 pm
News you might even expect him in the lineup tonight.
Don’t hold your breath…
April 21st, 20093:38 pm
cat would rather have lasagna and a nap… ‘-)
McFann, want to put something on that? Then you will ask, who was that “news” guy when it comes out.
Run Heap Run
April 21st, 20093:39 pm
Let’s see, professional multi-million dollar sports team, multi-million dollar star player, every game counts, yet said star of said team is still waiting on an 8 am appt????
The longer this drags out, the more worried I become for Mac’s future.
I’m sure Mac’s not waiting, we just haven’t had anyone tell us what he found out yet. Carroll said first thing this morning that she would let us know when she got to the clubhouse today. If only Heap had a Twitter account like Barry Zito and Nick Swisher. :lol
April 21st, 20093:40 pm
I think the dog would too

April 21st, 20093:41 pm
Awesome read. Did Willy win a Wurlitzer for that? Or had he already won it?
It’s incredible how much grief Coach gets around here, and yet keeps coming back. Granted, it’s all deserved, but I respect the man for not quittin’, or changin’ his name.
Random, thanks again, but this is definitive proof that you, sir, are a robot. Perhaps that’s why Shaun left: some sort of one robot per blog limit.
And, scoots, did you see that Slugger was in the Northwoods League? In case you missed it. Just sayin’
April 21st, 20093:43 pm
McCann is going to play tonight? Well everyone whining about there being no speed in the lineup can stop complaining if B-Mac is going to start tonight!!!
Guys,Let’s see, professional multi-million dollar sports team, multi-million dollar star player, every game counts, yet said star of said team is still waiting on an 8 am appt????
HE’S NOT WAITING ON AN APPOINTMENT. My gawd people, his appointment lasted an hour. He’s been long gone. Like I said, he is going to try and play tonight.
April 21st, 20093:44 pm
This team blows. You can’t hit, the starting rotation looks shaky, (yes, I am saying that. Lowe can’t find the strike zone, Kawakami is going to get lit up as soon as teams have seen him a few times, and who is your 5th starter?), the bullpen is atrocious, your offense is impatient at the plate, swinging at the first pitches they see, and not making the opposing pitchers work, too many injury concerns, Chipper, McCann, Anderson, Escobar….yes Braves fans it is time to panic! Or maybe not, since this was nothing better than a .500 team to begin with. You better hope the Braves call up Hanson, fix the bullpen, and get a LF WITH pop. Getting beaten by Washington, and damn near swept by the Pirates is embarrasing, and is definetly the forshadowing of things to come. Bravs won’t compete until at least 2011.
April 21st, 20093:45 pm
kirkinga (2:11 pm): “Of course the problem is that you are using “all game situations” which is too broad.
. . .
“I think it’s very clever using “all of baseball” and “all game situations”, but what you really need to know is pitcher/catcher/baserunner/batter. Otherwise taking a macro view of a micro situation isn’t particularly helpful. IMHO.”
I agree 100% — you are correct. Of course it’s situational, and dependent on the specific players involved and their talents and capabilities.
But those were the terms of the discussion (which was about sac bunts more than about SBs). Rock ON was taking the position that with runners on 1st & 2nd, he would ALWAYS bunt them over, in all situations, regardless of who all was on deck, etc (“Take it every time regardless of who’s up.”).
April 21st, 20093:46 pm
the visit with the specialist went well for McCann. He was fitted with a contact for his left eye, that should fit better than the one he tried recently. He thinks he can play with this and get through to the end of the season and if he has to have more Lasik surgery he could have it then. His eyesight has changed in his left eye since the Lasik surgery and he’s more nearsighted in that eye. But he has no regrets for having it. He’s in the lineup tonight. I’m filing a story momentarily. Please click on it, so nobody gets on me for letting you guys know first on the blog.
Petey would rather have millet, broccoli, or peas…and a nap.
News want to put something on that?
Like what? I won’t forget. But are you someone close to the team…or to McCann?
Run Heap Run Carroll said first thing this morning that she would let us know when she got to the clubhouse today.
Yep…so now we just gotta wait till she gets to the clubhouse…which should be any time now, I would think…
April 21st, 20093:48 pm
TOLD ALL OF YOU!!!! AHH, TOO FUNNY!!!
You are calling our rotation shaky? Have you looked at yours lately buddy? Lowe was not good last night…but he still went 6 and gave up 3. KK is actually pitching well. There is a learning curve for him too ya know, and oh by the way our lineup is still yet to play more than three games together. We need to get healthy, and then we will show you. And by the way, you are staring up at the Fish too.
You got plenty of your own problems to be worrying about
April 21st, 20093:49 pm
Good news on McCann!!!
McFann :Ô: :Ô:
THANK YOU, MS. ROGERS!!!
The thing better work.
So, News, you got ESP or what?
Wow, that “news” character was pretty good.
McFann, close to Mac not the team. I never get on these things but when I read all the people freaking out I figured I would post something. I knew people wouldn’t believe it, but figured it was worth a try. If it was something negative I would have never posted, of course.
April 21st, 20093:50 pm
Anyways, gotta run. Take care everyone. Go Braves!
Thanks News. So many of us really thought he’d been sitting in an optometrist office for 8 hours. Whew. Thank goodness you came along and filled us in.
April 21st, 20093:51 pm
Ha. They get on to you for letting us know first on the blog? Ha.
Oh wow…where’s the other rally turtle come from? Creepy…
Wish I coulda made my letters bigger in the first sentence of my last post. Oh well…
Hey, don’t worry, Ms. Rogers, I’ll click on the article. I’m gonna print it out…always do.
April 21st, 20093:52 pm
Who is that “News” guy anyway??
The Patron Saint of the Lost Art
That News guy…he’s alright.
News, are you McCann’s wife?
Great news — thanks Carroll!!
I was worried that we’d have to get a jersey with the number 16 1/2 for Mac’s seeing eye dog.
April 21st, 20093:53 pm
“Thanks News. So many of us really thought he’d been sitting in an optometrist office for 8 hours. Whew. Thank goodness you came along and filled us in.”
What are you talking about?
News close to Mac not the team.
What? Really? Who are you?
Wait! Come back!
April 21st, 20093:54 pm
MCCANN IS PLAYING, MCCANN IS PLAYING!!!!! WHOOOO-HOOOOOOO!!!!!!
mets09wschamps…you are exactly why no one in baseball takes Met fans seriously. Your team is a half a game better than the Braves, yet you come on here spouting off about how bad our team is. You have one good pitcher…that’s it. Pelfrey, Maine, and Perez are all hit and miss. Maybe it’s time for Met fans to worry about their own problems for once. Unreal….good luck with Ollie Perez the next three years…LOL
April 21st, 20093:56 pm
1. can CAbravesfan post cute anecdotes about his pets on a dodgers blog instead of braves blog
2. shouldnt mets094thPlaceNLEast be worried about his own teams affairs instead of posting garbage on our blog?
No rain in DC tonight, is there? Hope not…better go check…
Bill in VA
McCann’s appt with the eye doc didn’t go as well as he hoped, so he went to A-Rod’s cousin, who fitted him with the contact and all is well now!
April 21st, 20093:58 pm
Ah, good. No rain!
Your post here –
HE’S NOT WAITING ON AN APPOINTMENT. My gawd people, his appointment lasted an hour. He’s been long gone. Like I said, he is going to try and play tonight.
April 21st, 20094:04 pm
I heard 50% of rain tonight.
April 21st, 20094:05 pm
“HE’S NOT WAITING ON AN APPOINTMENT. My gawd people, his appointment lasted an hour. He’s been long gone.”
Uh, that was the point I was trying to convey in my own inept way. I stand severely chastised.
Since Mac is playing, I assume his blurred vision and dryness is better?
Good news on McFann’s mcmann! Any feelings on how he breaks out of the slump, McFann?
“Let’s rock!” ~ Al Bundy
April 21st, 20094:07 pm
Thanks Carroll for taking care of the blog folk first. I will click on your story so you don’t get in trouble. You can’t be too careful. It sounds like they are looking for any reason to fire/layoff people over there!
April 21st, 20094:08 pm
McCann hits a homer in his 2nd at bat tonight… braves win 7-3…you heard it here…
News, are you Macs Mom?
April 21st, 20094:10 pm
Do you think McCann read highlights for children while in the waiting room?
April 21st, 20094:13 pm
Everyone reads highlights when in the waiting room. Trying to find the shoe or an iron in some women’s hair….ahh the life.
Bu…bu…bu…bu…but Bowman said that McCann was going to have Lasik and miss two seasons, right?
Reading comprehension is a worthless skill.
April 21st, 20094:17 pm
Peg Bundy- lol
April 21st, 20094:21 pm
The news on Mac was like a good shot of whiskey, thanks Carroll.
Think I’ll compliment that shot with another, more traditional, belt…
Praise The Lawd, Bobby, and JD!!
McFann, I’m not News, but I did tell you he was in the best hands possible!
April 21st, 20094:22 pm
Braves taking outdoor BP today, Carroll? Wondering if I should hurry over to the ballpark.
50% chance of rain. Can’t be! I heard 50% chance of no rain.
April 21st, 20094:24 pm
Thanks for the blog first update Carroll and for the story with more info, which I’ve already clicked on.
April 21st, 20094:27 pm
“This blog has a number of posters who played D1, or in the minors, or scouted. Legit resumes.”
Dude, I’m actually Billy Beane. I just like blogging on a Braves blog. I mean, couldn’t you tell?!?!
April 21st, 20094:28 pm
Less precisely, there’s a 25% chance of maybe rain, or maybe not…
April 21st, 20094:30 pm
Yeah, very good news! Ah…the wait is over, thank goodness.
How will he break out? Hmm…maybe a couple singles…or a double. I’m starting small so as to not cause my hopes to rise any higher.
I’m thinking an RBI, too…at least tonight’s starter is a righty.
You’re right, you did! I’m sorry…I did appreciate your consoling words!
50% chance of rain? Fooey…
April 21st, 20094:32 pm
If I were the Nats, I’d throw at McCann. The blog needs a fight.
April 21st, 20094:33 pm
April 21st, 20094:34 pm
News is bogus. Anyone could have made that prediction and hmm imagine that after losing to the Nats due to a lack of power, BMac is dying to get back in the lineup. That’s just like that dude or dudette that came on here a while back acting like he or she was youknowwho. simply bogus.
Just read the article…Thanks a ton, Ms. Rogers!
I don’t need a fight!
Wayne in Utah
April 21st, 20094:36 pm
50% chance of no rain!!
Could “News” be Baby Huey himself??? Is he a computer geek?
April 21st, 20094:37 pm
McFann can you link the article…they never show up for me.
Can’t decide if I should keep score tonight. The Braves are a perfect 1-0 when I keep score this year…would hate to louse that up…
April 21st, 20094:38 pm
Bay Area Steve (3:41 pm): “thanks again, [You're quite welcome, sir] but this is definitive proof that you, sir, are a robot.”
Merely because I quickly and easily did something you couldn’t or wouldn’t?
Mighty low bar for robots you set.
Thanks again, though.
April 21st, 20094:41 pm
No problem! Here ya go!
Glad to be of service!
50% chance of no rain sounds good to me!
A computer geek…Haha! I don’t know. News said he wasn’t close to the team…maybe it was his brother.
Huh…we’ll never know!
fat people sink faster
so we get to see the full lineup tonight?
very nice if its so
April 21st, 20094:43 pm
If you are going to take a chance at keeping score, tonight’s definitely a night they could use the win!
April 21st, 20094:44 pm
Phew! Super news Ms. Rogers!!!!!!!!
…and he’s playing tonight? I think we got the best case scenario.
McFann Looks like you’re pleased and the turtles are multiplying -ROCK ON….
the river Jordan is deep and wide...
April 21st, 20094:46 pm
“Hopefully tonight we’ll get them on and get them over.”
Jordan Shafer discussing his pants. Good reportage, CR.
Chuck James was Solid until the 6th!!!
Kevin McGlinchy, wow that’s a blast from the past! Hahaa
April 21st, 20094:48 pm
Does anybody other than me think NEWS is DOB or CARROLL?
April 21st, 20094:50 pm
No, CB. DOB has stated that he’s never posted under another name – why start now. Plus, I’d say they’re both close to the team – not just Heap.
April 21st, 20094:51 pm
CB, no, because news said he was close to Mac, not the team. For obvious reasons, DOB and Carroll are close to the team as well, since they do cover them and all, you know.
April 21st, 20094:52 pm
Yeah, maybe I’ll break down and do it…what’s the harm…?
I’m very happy…hopefully this new contact works and he’ll start hitting like an All-Star Silver Slugger again!
Yeah, Rally McTurtle wanted to have a friend over…someone suggested trying two turtles, so I let him invite his friend.
Oh and uh, Wayne? Don’t look now, but <a href=”http://baltimore.orioles.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20090421&content_id=4358182&vkey=news_bal&fext=.jsp&c_id=bal”Freel is on the DL…
News about News
News is McCann’s hairdresser. News always travels with him since Brian always wants to look his best.
But its early.......LOL(Doc H.)
April 21st, 20094:53 pm
We dont need to see the full lineup…….we need them to play and play like men.
Crud. I screwed up the link…dang, I am worn out today, I tell ya…
All right, here we go:
Uh, Wayne? Don’t look now, but Freel is on the DL…
April 21st, 20094:54 pm
Probably someone in the newsroom, CB or some newsroom or blog somewhere that had someone in the clubhouse. I don’t think Carroll or DOB would talk to us rudely like that and I’m positive none of Mac’s family would. But the timing being just minutes before Carroll updated us suggests that it came from someone close to the paper rather than close to Mac. We’ve been wondering about it all day, if it were someone close to Mac they would have told us before 2 minutes after the media left to the clubhouse.
Anyway, Jason Giambi’s GQ interview is great –
April 21st, 20094:55 pm
Caroll – Thanks so much for the updates
I have missed our last 8 games so I am to blame for the skid, been busy with a new house and crud
I promise to watch tonight so we reverse this horrid mediocre slide
What was the name called by ESPN to schafer on opening night?
April 21st, 20094:56 pm
Note: Giambi’s language not suitable for McFann or those easily offended by language.
April 21st, 20094:57 pm
Knew that, just didn’t want to out you, LOL. Brilliance shines through, though.
Doc – it was Logan.
April 21st, 20094:59 pm
It is a shame that all the Braves’ hairdressers, manicurists, and personal assistants are not allowed in the clubhouse during the game. They all have to take their assigned seats in the stands. Too bad they don’t really care about baseball. They just care about having their respective players look their best. True professionals that they are.

April 21st, 20095:01 pm
I figured News was Ben Stein.
April 21st, 20095:02 pm
doc/ heap….didnt he call him jarrod?
I’m calling you out McFann.
Your boy is gonna get run over by one Adam Dunn tonight. He’s gonna hit him like a Greyhound bus. With the power of a thousand Victorinos.
where's the beef?
April 21st, 20095:03 pm
Hooray! More lame jokes about a bad actor. I’m so glad we can dredge up old annoying jokes instead of churning out new ones.
You get a gold star.
