It’s nice to get some early runs, so that it takes some pressure of Vazquez…And Its a good thing that we make Duke Work, I don’t see him going past 5 innings…Nice

But its early.......LOL(Doc H.)

I know lots of people will jump all over me but I would have to say……..Prado is as dangerous as KJ……..the guy knows how to find the gap. KJ is just another AJ………HR or nothing.

Now we know one thing ……….If chipper is in the lineup, this team will win tons of games, if he is not, we will lose all.

DOB,

Any change the Braves will keep Reyes up to use out of the bullpen? He was good yesterday and I’m personally tired of watching this bullpen suck. I wouldn’t even mind seeing some of the other guys from Gwinnet come up if they continue to do good.

I cant take it anymore

great job by Pookie/Francoeur. Both Thursday and today he has come up huge with 2 outs and runner(s) in scoring position. Big play with Francoeur taking 2nd on the throw. The Anderson, Francoeur, Kotchman trio have been central to our few runs over the past 4 games.

Not a Good first inning, especially with a three run lead…Javy has to be more efficient and avoid the deep counts because I don’t want to see the Blow-pen up in the 6th inning, but it’s inevitable…

The Braves are going to win today. They’re due. This does not mean they’re going to win 90 games, but it does mean they’re capable of winning a game.

I am not suggesting this and the Braves absolutely have the talent to turn around this very young season, but if the Braves decide they need to make some moves to rebuild or remold this team I would have to wonder if they would look to the Red Sox who desperately need a SS. If the Red Sox were to overwhelm the Braves with pitchers/prospects they would have to consider it – Buchholz, Daniel Bard, one of their low A arms Price or Kelly, or a position prospect in some combination. The Braves could move Buchholz into the 5th spot and when they deem Hanson ready for a spot in the rotation could deal Vasquez for good prospects as well.

That being said I hope it does not come to that and I hope that this team can turn it around. Today is off to a good start but this team is way too talented to play like they have the 4 games prior to this one (Volstead just beat us plain and simple 5 games ago)

75%? are you getting that data from the monitor that you have hooked up to his bat?

The difference between good teams and bad teams was just displayed in that inning…Good teams cash in on extra outs given to them…The Braves fir in the latter…

Jeff321, it’s not “disingenuous” to cite his opp. average from only one game. I didn’t specify games pitched, etc, just listed all Braves relievers. What, are you his neighbor or something? Chill, dude.

Fractured Fundamentals

April 19th, 2009
2:12 pm

So whose fault is it the Braves run into an out at second and then can’t get the bunt down? Players? Of course it is, but players who have it drilled into their heads and into their routines that fundamentals can make you sink or swim usually find a way to produce.

So Bobby, think you might work on drilling fundamentals into this team? Of course not. Failing to get a bunt down is nothing new to Bobby Cox teams.

Nice outline of the recent woes.

Need a few more innings like that from JV. He needs to pitch a least 7 today or I think we lose (barring some inconceivable thought of having a 10 run lead or something which still could be precarious).

braves need to play small ball, but the very guys who would have to that are the ones can’t seem to get the bunt down (infante, prado, etc) bobby will not ask chipper, francoeur, mccann, or ga to bunt

during shafers recent strikeout binge he didn’t even try to bunt for a basehit once, with his speed that has got be a part of his

I believe that Vazquez AB should have been a sac moving Schafer to 2B and an E1 allowing Vazquez to reach 1B. The scorer should give Duke an error. If Vazquez had later scored in the inning, the run would have been unearned.

the braves can’t play small ball because the guys who cox WOULD give the bunt sign to can’t get the bunt down

In football you have special teams coaches. I suppose the bench coach, hitting coach, etc are the same thing in baseball. But consider this; How many more games might you win each year just by executing fundamentals? Five? Ten?

Since Bobby obviously feels that major leaguers should already know how to run the bases and bunt, perhaps someone in upper management should hire another coach to handle the silly things that Bobby doesn’t fool with like bunting and baserunning. It could actually be worth a few more wins each season.

Two solid ABs in a row for Francoeur. He fouled off 3 balls and worked the count to 2-2, before flying out to RC. In his first after a 2-0 count he got a pitch he could hit to CF to drive in the two runs. No overswing, just trying to make contact. Clutch 2 RBI in the first. Well done, French!
