another great read from DOB…3-0 Bravos.
April 19th, 20091:51 pm
not wanting to nitpick, but you said it was Mac’s right eye again:)
It’s nice to get some early runs, so that it takes some pressure of Vazquez…And Its a good thing that we make Duke Work, I don’t see him going past 5 innings…Nice
But its early.......LOL(Doc H.)
I know lots of people will jump all over me but I would have to say……..Prado is as dangerous as KJ……..the guy knows how to find the gap. KJ is just another AJ………HR or nothing.
Now we know one thing ……….If chipper is in the lineup, this team will win tons of games, if he is not, we will lose all.
Mixxo- Let’s get Vazquez that first win as a Brave!!!
nice 1st inning,GO BRAVOS
April 19th, 20091:54 pm
Any change the Braves will keep Reyes up to use out of the bullpen? He was good yesterday and I’m personally tired of watching this bullpen suck. I wouldn’t even mind seeing some of the other guys from Gwinnet come up if they continue to do good.
I cant take it anymore
April 19th, 20091:55 pm
KJ is just another AJ…..HR or nothing?
dude, are you serious?
April 19th, 20091:56 pm
You have a 3 run lead JV! Throw strikes!
April 19th, 20091:57 pm
Muts winning (but figueroa has about 50 pitches after 2)
Fish is losing
N Nine- Hear! Hear! I’m doing everything I can on my end…changed my “game watching arrangement” from laptop on the desk to laptop in the recliner. So far, so good!
April 19th, 20091:58 pm
DOB – Its disingenuous to say Parr has a .400 opponents batting average.. Considering he’s pitched in only one game so far.
April 19th, 20091:59 pm
I cant take it anymore ,
Isnt he swinging for the fence 75% of his AB=?
April 19th, 20092:00 pm
great job by Pookie/Francoeur. Both Thursday and today he has come up huge with 2 outs and runner(s) in scoring position. Big play with Francoeur taking 2nd on the throw. The Anderson, Francoeur, Kotchman trio have been central to our few runs over the past 4 games.
Have we taken any bets as to who (if anyone) claims Blaine Boyer?
April 19th, 20092:01 pm
A win today will cause this blog to be different.
Steve from OH
PWH–San Diego would be a good bet.
April 19th, 20092:02 pm
Not a Good first inning, especially with a three run lead…Javy has to be more efficient and avoid the deep counts because I don’t want to see the Blow-pen up in the 6th inning, but it’s inevitable…
April 19th, 20092:03 pm
DARNIT, the Braves are winning, so I don’t gave much to say.
Nice single Schafer. Now 2 for his last 22.
April 19th, 20092:04 pm
The Braves are going to win today. They’re due. This does not mean they’re going to win 90 games, but it does mean they’re capable of winning a game.
I am not suggesting this and the Braves absolutely have the talent to turn around this very young season, but if the Braves decide they need to make some moves to rebuild or remold this team I would have to wonder if they would look to the Red Sox who desperately need a SS. If the Red Sox were to overwhelm the Braves with pitchers/prospects they would have to consider it – Buchholz, Daniel Bard, one of their low A arms Price or Kelly, or a position prospect in some combination. The Braves could move Buchholz into the 5th spot and when they deem Hanson ready for a spot in the rotation could deal Vasquez for good prospects as well.
That being said I hope it does not come to that and I hope that this team can turn it around. Today is off to a good start but this team is way too talented to play like they have the 4 games prior to this one (Volstead just beat us plain and simple 5 games ago)
man did he need that or what
April 19th, 20092:05 pm
Aargh, Steve, you beat me to it… yeah, Pads were interested in Boyer during the Peavy talks, and they’ve got plenty of guys they could send down for 10 days to give Boyer a shot. Makes sense to me.
April 19th, 20092:06 pm
Cant this team bunt a ball?
what happened on that bunt… it shows as a sac on gameday but no error on a throw or anything
April 19th, 20092:07 pm
“O” WTF was that…! More inept execution…Cheese-Whiz, we gotta take advantage of the pirates giving us extra outs to play with…
Not one of your best efforts there Omar. C’mon son!
Well that rally ended poorly.
OMG, Only the AAA braves offense can make an inning turn out like this…!
Apparently Infante missed the bunting clinic Cox put on, eh? (Last I heard, the only players getting bunting lessons are pitchers.)
April 19th, 20092:08 pm
It was a bad throw by Duke to second, but no one advanced. No error. Just a fielder’s choice.
April 19th, 20092:09 pm
75%? are you getting that data from the monitor that you have hooked up to his bat?
If I had to guess by the seat of my pants, I would say he doesn’t swing for the fences 75% of the time.
The difference between good teams and bad teams was just displayed in that inning…Good teams cash in on extra outs given to them…The Braves fir in the latter…
April 19th, 20092:10 pm
Just added a poll to the original blog….
Jeff321, it’s not “disingenuous” to cite his opp. average from only one game. I didn’t specify games pitched, etc, just listed all Braves relievers. What, are you his neighbor or something? Chill, dude.
April 19th, 20092:11 pm
This camera guy really needs to get his act together
April 19th, 20092:12 pm
So whose fault is it the Braves run into an out at second and then can’t get the bunt down? Players? Of course it is, but players who have it drilled into their heads and into their routines that fundamentals can make you sink or swim usually find a way to produce.
So Bobby, think you might work on drilling fundamentals into this team? Of course not. Failing to get a bunt down is nothing new to Bobby Cox teams.
April 19th, 20092:13 pm
20 K’s in 3 starts? wow
April 19th, 20092:14 pm
great throw from Jordan!
Nice throw Schafer! Inning over.
Nice arm by Schafer. Jack Wilson won’t try that again.
April 19th, 20092:15 pm
he may have not been out but oh well Kelly wasn’t out last Thursday either…it all evens out
I understand why Wilson tried that (Schafer was shaded over toward right-center and there were two outs), but the Buccos aren’t playing very smart ball today.
nice throw and arm though…especially when throwing against your body
April 19th, 20092:16 pm
Steve, ya. San Diego is almost too obvious. The other locations I would consider putting money on are Pittsburgh, Kansas City, Milwaukee, and Toronto. I think his most likely destination is probably Gwinnett, though.
Nice outline of the recent woes.
Need a few more innings like that from JV. He needs to pitch a least 7 today or I think we lose (barring some inconceivable thought of having a 10 run lead or something which still could be precarious).
braves need to play small ball, but the very guys who would have to that are the ones can’t seem to get the bunt down (infante, prado, etc) bobby will not ask chipper, francoeur, mccann, or ga to bunt
during shafers recent strikeout binge he didn’t even try to bunt for a basehit once, with his speed that has got be a part of his
Base knock chipper.
April 19th, 20092:17 pm
DOB- what’s Cox tendencies towards strugglies rookies in the past? Will he sit Schaefer for a spell if he stays on current path, let him work it out on the field/b.box, or something else? Just curious..
The ump couldn’t see where the tag was. It’s just one of those “the ball beat you, so you f’d up” plays.
Hanson 1 run two hits 1K in the first.
I believe that Vazquez AB should have been a sac moving Schafer to 2B and an E1 allowing Vazquez to reach 1B. The scorer should give Duke an error. If Vazquez had later scored in the inning, the run would have been unearned.
April 19th, 20092:18 pm
old man’s still got some pop in his bat…too bad it went foul
April 19th, 20092:19 pm
brian, if the Red Sox wouldn’t move Buchholz for Salty, they’re not going to move him for anything we would be willing to part with. The Red Sox and Braves aren’t the greatest trading partners at the moment.
April 19th, 20092:20 pm
the braves can’t play small ball because the guys who cox WOULD give the bunt sign to can’t get the bunt down
during shafers recent struggles, did even try to bunt for a basehit once? with his speed that has got to be part of his game
April 19th, 20092:21 pm
“D.O.B.” Can You School Boog and Joe on what the Deftones are…? I vaguely listen to them but at least I know who they are, because I know people who listen to them…
In football you have special teams coaches. I suppose the bench coach, hitting coach, etc are the same thing in baseball. But consider this; How many more games might you win each year just by executing fundamentals? Five? Ten?
Since Bobby obviously feels that major leaguers should already know how to run the bases and bunt, perhaps someone in upper management should hire another coach to handle the silly things that Bobby doesn’t fool with like bunting and baserunning. It could actually be worth a few more wins each season.
April 19th, 20092:22 pm
sorry for double post, computer going crazy
April 19th, 20092:23 pm
Lead off hit from Chipper goes no where. Two bad running mistakes leading to outs in the first 3 innings. Definitely NOT double pits to chesty.
wow- when was the last time we saw Chipper make a baserunning error?
Gawd I thought Chipper hurt himself again…that was close, I don’t like seeing Chipper on the ground in anyway…
I rest my case.
April 19th, 20092:24 pm
Chipper Jones gets caught slipping.
Two solid ABs in a row for Francoeur. He fouled off 3 balls and worked the count to 2-2, before flying out to RC. In his first after a 2-0 count he got a pitch he could hit to CF to drive in the two runs. No overswing, just trying to make contact. Clutch 2 RBI in the first. Well done, French!
April 19th, 20092:25 pm
That was very un-Chipper.
ok where is this Facebook page that Boog and Joe are speaking of, i cant find it. i wanted to tell them the Deftones are not “alternative metal”
April 19th, 20092:26 pm
Man That was dangerous, I got flashbacks of A. Jones and Giles on that play…
April 19th, 20092:27 pm
Escobar is a lot different than Salty. Escobar has over a year of major league experience. Salty had minimal experience and had just had a nightmare minor league season.
Just search “Joe and Boog” on Facebook, buzzmeat.
April 19th, 20092:28 pm
Buzzmeat I was looking for it on Facebook as well and BTW I think the new FB Format Sucks!
Maybe “Chop Chop”, or “Run Heap Run” Know where the link is at…
April 19th, 20092:29 pm
oh ok, its a group, that might be why i couldnt find it. that and I was tyoing last names
April 19th, 20092:31 pm
Come on Javy! Get us through the 5th…raining and we need a win!!
April 19th, 20092:32 pm
Javy Vazquez looking pretty good, so far, 51 pitches in 3 IP 3H 0R 1BB 5Ks. Giving the Braves a chance to win.
April 19th, 20092:33 pm
Forgot to mention, Escobar is likely to play tomorrow, according to Bobby Cox.
Nasty Curve by Javy, After 5 innings It needs to rain its arse off…So it that it will be a complete game and we don’t have to worry about the Blow-pen blowing another Win…
JasonInFL (Formerly ME)
April 19th, 20092:34 pm
Vazquez has the stuff to be an ace…he can limit that one bad inning and the HR ball, he can be dominant.
April 19th, 20092:35 pm
Hey…talk about absurd…anyone else see where a Nats player (Dukes) was fined/benched and threatened w/a AAA demotion for being 5 minutes late to the usual reporting time. Here’s the best part…he was doing charity work for the Nats. Considering the Nats are a charity case themselves- it makes the whole thing surreal. Hilarious.
Duke certainly isn’t fooling anyone today.
I did not realize that Schafer’s assist to nail Jack Wilson at 2B is his first official MLB assist. With so many in ST, I got spoiled.
Nice 2B Ross to leadoff. Let’s have a good AB Schafer.
NICE Bunt SCHAFER
April 19th, 20092:36 pm
there’s a great bunt by jordan- man he gets down the line fast
Nice!!! See what happens when you do the little things right…That was an exciting play for once…
April 19th, 20092:37 pm
wow I havent seen that from a brave in a long time, furcal, nixon, maybe deion?
The kid’s having a nice game today. Good to see.
April 19th, 20092:38 pm
Didn’t the announcers say that Chipper talked with Schafer before the game, maybe for confidence? Well, it’s paying off cause he looks relaxed. Awesome bunt, man!
Well, at least one person in the lineup (today) knows how to bunt!
April 19th, 20092:39 pm
Blanco did it last year.
April 19th, 20092:40 pm
Bad last two AB by Infante. Unusual for him. Pick us up Prado.
2 and 3rd with 1 out and we still don’t score, Very frustrating…
This team can’t hit for Shyt when its 2 and 3 and less than 2 outs! This should be at least a 5-0 game…
April 19th, 20092:41 pm
Prado GOES DEEP. All I had to do was right about the power outage, and voila, problem fixed.
Nevertheless, 6-0 Braves.
Infante swings at a ball which was outside and very high for a weak pop out to first..
umm Javy has two bunts as well. For being in the AL for awhile that good.
PRADO 3 RUN BOMB!
Sweet, Prado got Bobby his 3R HR. Martin crushed it. Let’s get through 5 Innnings, guys.
I take that last comment back, There we go Martin!…
That was a bomb hit about 405 feet…! Thank gawd for the 4 ft walls
April 19th, 20092:42 pm
Boy you know that will get you guys talking again…
