Schafer says, “Oh yeah Kelly, I can give up runs with my defense too!”
Loaf Garret on a blackberry sitting next to Chipper on the bench
I know right, James? Wish I could be in there.
Eric from MO
bravos2249 alot of lineups have back to back lefties. Your just being nick picky.
If we happen to forget—-This is Schafer’s FIRST month. He’s learning. I would love to see him succeed
that was a darn good play by Kelly…and the back hand too…VERY IMPRESSIVE…way to bounce back from yesterday
TnBrian is right.
Schafer can’t go back on the ball. My hope is that he’ll learn the NL parks (harder than it used to be, due to the unbalance schedule); but, he really does seem to lack the ability to go get the ones over his head.
Didn’t he break his face running through a wall in the AFL a couple of years back?
Isn’t it frustrating when the opponent scores on an out when we can’t get one home with the sacks full and no outs?
April 17th, 20097:37 pm
So it’s Schafer’s fault? Should have known, I can only listen to the game.
Another triple because Schafer doesn’t play it off the wall.
WHAT IS WITH ALL THE TRIPLES
N Nine first month or not that’s something you learn in little league….at least I would think….at least High school
let me adjust that
Schafer doesn’t go back on balls very well at this phase of his career.
Nice play by Kelly.
Gil In Mechanicsville
All you wa-hoos who were clamoring for JS to start in centerfield, I hope you see why it’s tough to win with rookies…
April 17th, 20097:39 pm
It’s the old, “ball passes him twice” defense Shafer is playing.
If anything, I now appreciate Andruw Jone’s defensemore. He was just in a league above everyone defensively.
N Nine, learning WHAT? The kid should’ve learned in the minors to take the ball off the wall and prevent the runner from stealing an extra base, right? I don’t get what you’re saying…
“So it’s Schafer’s fault? Should have known, I can only listen to the game.” – Ian
Schafer just keeps running all the way to the wall even after it should be clear that he’s not gonna catch the ball. He’d serve his team better by backing off and playing the carom.
I’m really surprised by it… Jordan’s a rookie, but it’s not like he’s never played OF in a stadium before. Oh well… we’ll see.
April 17th, 20097:40 pm
I’m eating Newman’s Own pretzels. When are they going to make Newman’s Own beer to go along with the snacks?
4 pitch walk to JJ
Walking JJ? This guy is living on borrowed time lol.
Gawd What a Sparse Crowd at PNC Park! I Swear after opening day in Pittsburgh Its all about the Stillers up there…That city is still scarred from the 92 LCS and Barroid Bonds leaving that team
FaninFaytown – They are actually just doubles that are misplayed and turned into triples.
Eric from MO
I’m not being picky…if you are even watching the game they complained about not enough Righties in the lineup and I pointed out that there are 4…and if Bobby put Kotchman and Casey back to back that is his own fault….me personally. i would have put Diaz in between Casey and Schafer because of his bat and shifted the whole lineup up with Mac hitting 3rd while Chipper is out…Since Casey and Jordan are struggling it makes since.
April 17th, 20097:41 pm
JJ with leadoff walk and Kelly probably hits in double play.
Coulda used that walk last inning …
Gil you can win with rookies. Seems Tampa did pretty well with rookies last year. Just takes a lil time. With that beng said, I sure didnt pick the Braves to make the playoffs. Maybe thats why Im not as upset as others over the losses. I picked them to win 86-88 games and at 5-4 they are looking like that is how good they are.
Don’t like this conservative playing Bobby always does on the road. KJ bunting is a waste imo.
Sac bunt? Are you kidding me
April 17th, 20097:42 pm
It would have been nice if bobby did break up the lefties. He could have dropped Diaz down in the order to break them up. Walk to JJ, Good bunt KJ.
Pat Maholm's mind right now
Jeeeezzzzz…….. i’m trying to let these guys get a win after that brutal series against those Fish, but DANG, if they refuse… heck with em!
Learning how adjust to hitting big league pitching..not the defense. Yes, if he kept that to a double, we’d still be scoreless
Damn It! Our Bad Luck Strikes again, There goes another Foul ball that could’ve been a hit…
April 17th, 20097:43 pm
Do we have any gold glovers?
Damn It! We are seriously hitting with some bad luck so far…
tomahawkin…I think the Pens are playing tonight in the Stanley Cup playoffs…that’s a much bigger draw there than the Bucs.
April 17th, 20097:44 pm
Willie Mays glove, where triples go to die.
Remember that saying?
The 2009 Braves saying is: Shafer’s glove, where doubles turn to triples.
What is wrong Diaz….he needs to eat something…the weight loss has not helped his hitting
JasonInFL (Formerly ME)
There it goes 0-3 hitting with R.I.S.P., I smell another 1-run loss on the road….
Eric from MO
Schafer is a highly respectable rookie but trust me he ain’t no Evan Longoria
April 17th, 20097:45 pm
bravos you dont make sense. When guys are struggling you stick them lower in the lineup. That is why they are batting 7th & 8th
Can anyone give me a wen site to stream to listen to the game?
Braves are not hitting. That’s ok. Bobby Cox will fix that by cussing and screaming at the umpires.
April 17th, 20097:46 pm
bravos didnt say he was but like you said he is highly respected.
Jbutler, My Fault Bro…I forgot about hockey, I forgot that few people in the South care about hockey, even BSPN doesn’t care about hockey since thy didn’t decide to televise the NHL reg. season games…
Sorry, web site
I’ve held off long enough on Schafer’s defense in center. It sucks….that is atleast 3 triples…maybe four or five this season…that should not have been triples. The kid needs a lot of work with his bat and his glove. Hasnt stolen a base yet either… I dunno…a lot to worry about. I know it’s a long season…but someone needs to teach him what to do on deep fly balls. He hasnt figured it out yet.
April 17th, 20097:47 pm
This team is utterly pitiful right now. JS is an automatic out and Kotchman is a joke with a bat. Bases loaded no outs and they score nothin… I can’t wait for 2010.
N Nine, oh my bad. Yes, his offense will come around… surely.
April 17th, 20097:48 pm
he is….if Bobby…who at times we question honestly thinks he can skip Trip A but thinks Hanson needs Triple A…he must be good…he just needs time…the strikeouts are an expectation from a rookie but the doubles into triples are something he can prevent.
April 17th, 20097:49 pm
Oh and Longoria was the only rookie from the Rays 2008 team I could think of..lol
April 17th, 20097:50 pm
I just think Jordan is suffering from unbridled enthusiasm. We all know what that did to Bill Mumphrey.
April 17th, 20097:51 pm
A little tough luck in the hitting department so far but just down by 1 in the early innings. I mean we could be down by 7 like Boston is to the Orioles. I wonder if Smoltzie is having some second thoughts? Well I guess it is just the 2nd week of the season so probably not.
April 17th, 20097:53 pm
“I’ve held off long enough on Schafer’s defense in center. It sucks….that is atleast 3 triples”
LMAO at your last comment…I’m still holding off about getting on Schafer’s D…I’m taking into account that Schafer will only get better with experience…But that experience might cost us a game or two early on this season…
April 17th, 20097:54 pm
Schafer’s defense has been very good EXCEPT for the ones off the wall. He just needs to learn he can’t catch everything and needs to play the carom
Corky lol-yes maybe we should send Diaz a couple of pizzas and a bucket of chicken
April 17th, 20097:55 pm
Bill Mumphrey? Don’t you mean Billy Mumy?
Frenchy!!! Quietly in a groove
no prob TnBrian.
Dang Mr. Singles is auditioning for the leadoff spot.
April 17th, 20097:56 pm
Jojo of course is already here so hopefully as the game goes on we will know whose gone
Our luck can’t get any worse.
Dang, nothing going our way in this game.
April 17th, 20097:57 pm
Bad Luck Strikes again with the offense, Dammit! This is getting old…!
And the tough luck continues because Martin really smoked that one.
Steve from OH, Hoover got moved up to High-A and is starting for Myrtle Beach tonight. Impressive. I guess striking out 9 in 4 and a third innings will do that. Aggressive move though.
over under on a shutout?
I can see the Braves getting shut out in this one
April 17th, 20098:00 pm
How many left on base is that thru 4 innings?
Nothing cheap about the Pirate’s hits.
Fried Chicken cures a lot…..especially from Church’s Best Fried Chicken Ever. Does anyone else love some fried chicken
Hair's On Fire
Bobby loves anyone who hustles. If they play like their hair is on fire, they’re in! Their IQ can be a few points below a grapefruit’s, but that doesn’t matter as long as they hustle!
I Hate to admit it but I will Co-Sign to the braves scoring less than three tonight, This lineup Sucks!
Love the Danzig that they are Playing for Ryan Doumit, Beavis and Butthead got me onto that…
April 17th, 20098:02 pm
What a joke…….we cant even beat the pirates??? what is all this about?
Hair’s On Fire Loves me some fried chicken.
Nice play by KJ and Infante there. KJ is moving out of the doghouse to clear a spot for Jordan.
April 17th, 20098:05 pm
Although Hoover was moved up because Rohrbough was placed on the 7-Day disabled list. Not good.
April 17th, 20098:06 pm
Well Double J is doing his Job, With some better luck on the offense Its 4-1 at least…Come ON Offense…!
April 17th, 20098:07 pm
Loaf Garret: it’d be the first chords of the Replacements’ “Bastards of Young,” or the beginning of the Clash’s “Straight to Hell.” Or maybe Parliament’s “Flash Light” or Rick James’ “You & I” would be really cool, too. Or the Gap Band’s “Burn Rubber.”
Or Zep’s “Whole Lotta Love.” Or of course the first chords of the Man in Black’s “Ring of Fire,” but it’s too ubiquitous, probably, since the movie and all.
Back to burning the midnight oil (later actually…) with the Braves. So far it’s been harsh on them. Things not going their way…..YET!
The hits will fall, JJ is pitching well, KJ is lights out on D, JF is steadily hitting his singles, BMac will lift one out…. It will come around to a 5-3 win.
Let’s go Braves!!
With Bobby being forced to throw that lineup out there, we have met our equal in the Pirates as far as lineups go… I dare anyone to disagree with that.
This game is a toss up.
Is Brandon Moss the love child of Chipper Jones? Is there a Hooters in Monroe, GA?
April 17th, 20098:08 pm
didn’t Jair make his Braves Debut vs the Pirates?
What a luxury do we have in infante and Prado……… they are not power coming from the bench but they can play ………….Infante is a stud.
April 17th, 20098:09 pm
Didn’t hear anyone vote for my nickname for our 1st baseman. “Lunging Casey” fits him perfectly.
this is like watching ” The Benchwarmers” …..with the exception of some D
We need a power hitting 1st baseman. I know people have said it…but Kotchman is just not cutting it. I dont think he is coming around…
April 17th, 20098:10 pm
WOW Schafer walked
Schafer walks! Slump be damned! )
April 17th, 20098:11 pm
We need to stop calling Prado and Infante bench guys…I dont think they are going to be going to the bench anytime soon.
What’s the score please?
Muts, fish and phillucks are jogging on the right directing tonight…..so we better start scoring some runs.
Jair would’ve had that record last year if the Braves gave his some offense in like 4 of his starts…lol
Here we go again. Something is boring about this game. Hard to watch, I keep walking out of the room and coming back. Something is missing. Help!
April 17th, 20098:12 pm
1-0 Bucs in the fifth
Schafer turned a double into a triple and the run scored on a nice play that Kelly got an out on
April 17th, 20098:14 pm
FLA,PHI,NY all winning
April 17th, 20098:15 pm
What about making BJ a 1B?
Bravos2249- sounds like braves up 1-0 with your 812 post
April 17th, 20098:16 pm
We haven’t caught a break in about 5 days now.
Gawd This Offense Sucks!
Damn It! I think that is 0-4 hitting with R.I.S.P. WTF…
That F’d up inning in the 2nd, where we didn’t score with the bases loaded is getting in our A..s right now….
We talk baseball, other sports, music, movies, BBQ and whatever (except politics or religion)
