Can’t be no worse than the lil’ Bambino Schafer swinging away at every pitch?
Yeah me too, but like someone said (can’t remember who- sorry) we can’t slump forever. It is still early. Way to early to give up
April 18th, 20093:00 pm
BOBBY COX MUST GO!
This is America. You are responsible for your performance. Several years of losing baseball means you get replaced. Bobby Cox is a loser.
Ouch!!!! That was a good old fashion butt whipping delivered to the Braves!!!
I never thought I would say this, Brian McCann sucks.
Only two and a half hours. Now I can do something useful with my day.
SOMEBODY BOMB THE NETHERLANDS IMMEDIATELY!
One problem with that, Amstel Light is good s***. I’ll let it slide this last time.
I really can’t stand this Airtran commercial. That is just creepy. That old guy is disgusting.
April 18th, 20093:01 pm
Well Aparrently A-ville Ranger you guys do. These guys go to the plate and do the exact opposite of what there suppose to do. That is more a testament to who these guys are than the coaching. Stop making scapegoats for them.
4 Gawd Damn Hits! And 10 hits in the last 2 games…Pathetic! I think Bobby Should keep these guys on the Field and do some remedial batting practice. Of Coarse that will not happen…It’s Golfing time for Francoeur, Roachy, Among Others….
“Kotchman will probably only drive in 70 runs”
Do the math. At this rate Kotchman will drive in about 30 runs.
30 RBIs FOR A REGULAR FIRST BASEMAN.
KOTCHMAN MUST GO!!!
April 18th, 20093:02 pm
Are you a certified moron or just illiterate?
I stated a FACT (hopefully you know what that is) that our hitters that have achieved improvement have not received their training from TP…that is a fact because this:
Mac- receives his hitting tips/practice from his dad and Chipper
Chipper- ALWAYS goes to his dad
Yunel- went to our Double A hitting coach for his training
Francoeur- went to Rangers hitting coach Jaramillo(sp?)
Prado- Venezuela coach
So what point is it exactly you’re trying to make because if you were trying to make one you did a VERY poor job!
Oh, and yeah, maybe you’re right…I mean Gregor Blanco did go to TP…LMAO!
Nick in PA
April 18th, 20093:03 pm
same old braves.
April 18th, 20093:04 pm
I’m trying to be as optomistic as I can, but It’s hard to do…I think some predicted Kotchman to drive in 85+…I’m calling 70 if he’s lucky, with this Anemic offense…
Yeah McFann, I hope McCann doesn’t have to go on the DL.
I had to change my name a little bit because we have another bravesfan on here.
But its early.......right? (Doc H.)
After reading 50% of the posts in the last hour, I do feel better, just by knowing its not only me thinking Cox is responsible for the most part of our bad performance and that some changes most be done as of yesterday.
I love the comment that says………..move KJ to LF, platoon him with diaz. Let Infante be the 2b and Prado his Backup. Bring up BJ. That way we will have 3 players capable of playing OF on the bench and 3 players capable of playing IF on the bench and then Ross.
April 18th, 20093:05 pm
I think I hate everything about this team…(DirtyDawg)
so why are you on here? Are you a masochist ? Go do something that you don’t hate. How hard is that to figure out?
What is the braves record for scoreless innings offensively?
speaking of which – this offense is offensive
wow- didn’t mean to get all cliche-y on you all…sorry
Yup. You are right. Mac sucks, we should cut him. Who needs him, anyways?
Bobby must play with his Cox in the dugout because he sure as hell isnt coaching
April 18th, 20093:06 pm
so sad when you are only 11 games into the season and only 1 game under .500 and yet you know that this season is already over…
Steve from OH
nolie, glad to hear your opinion on the two draft prospects. I think that your eval matches the general consensus that I’ve read.
Bobby Cox did need to retire about 5 years ago. Without chipper there is nothing to fear in the lineup, without escobar there is no hitting at all. And the Bullpen is nowhere near good at the momment.
I also See B-Macc Headed to the D.L. (Not Good!) if he keeps struggling…B-Macc isn’t Hitting like the B-Macc we are used to seeing. Apparently that eye is really getting to him…
Oh, and Jake…how can you always say its “the players” when this has been happening for 4 years now w/ wholesale player changes but the same EXACT coaching staff…
Thats like saying that you keep buying a manual shifting car and you have went through Corvette after Corvette after Corvette but keep messing the car up only to blame the car for the problems…Maybe its the fact that you never learned how to drive the vette properly and should be driving an automatic…
Basically put, the players can only be blamed for so long without pointing the finger elsewhere.
April 18th, 20093:07 pm
If you put together all the MUST GO!!!!!!!’s here, I wonder who on the team including coaches would be left over. Chipper? BMac, Eddie P…Escobar. Maybe Infante.
This is a Bobby Cox “managed” team. The team managed to get 0 runs and 4 hits while the pitching staff managed to give up 10 runs. Maybe we can manage to watch this farce again tomorrow. Maybe we can manage to keep our lunch down.
Oh back to Garrent Anderson, wow this has not impressed me at all. Griffey over in seattle thats alittle different story. Atleast we didnt end up with Xavier Nady who might be done for the season.
April 18th, 20093:08 pm
Wow. Too bad I had 19 bags of leaves from last fall to rake up (the people who lived here before us, apparently didn’t rake the leaves before it started snowing).
It looks like I missed a helluva a game….. If I was a frickin’ Pirates fan.
See the thing that sucks is this. I had reasonable hope that when this season started if EVERYTHING went well (Starting and literally ending with Chipper’s health), that this could be a decent season with post-season aspirations.
Then like everybody else, with the way this team came out of the gate, my expecations rose. Because it finally looked like we had some pitching, and the young hitters were gonna take the next step, and that having Jordan Schafer start the year as the CF was a BRILLIANT move by Bobby.
But with this stretch of utterly embarrassing baseball that they’re in right now, they’re damn near an afterthought. Totally forgot there was a game today. Hell, even if I had remembered, not sure I would have tuned in.
Same sh!t, different season. Nothing’s EVER going to change….. until there is change. And….yes…I’m talking about Cox. Time for the old’ man, to go down the road…. of retirement.
CLEARLY nobody respects his authority, or he doesn’t have the authority to demand “smart” play out of his troops.
Either way, until he’s gone NOTHING is going to change. Free swingers that have zero plate discipline. Let’s hope he retires before he ruins Schafer, Escobar, KJ and Heyward’s careers like he has Jeff’s (and Andruw’s) by NOT demanding excellence out of him.
This team is embarrassing, from the top down.
Andruw got his batting from TP & it nearly cost him his career
Last I saw with Rangers, he was batting 585 on a p-time basis
April 18th, 20093:09 pm
Has anyone also noticed that our pitching staff has been horrible since Mazzone left and McDowell replaced him? Bring back Mazzone and watch how fast our same pitching staff gets better.. McDowell sucks, and he has been that way from day 1..
Well, if McCann has a problem that will require some more Lasik, he needs to have it done…immediately. A man’s got to have his eyes right to be able to play this game.
Good starting pitching
Inconsistant offense, especially with runners in scoring position
Same old Braves.
April 18th, 20093:10 pm
Now Mitchell, that was Bobby Cox playing the old guy on the AirTran commercial.
April 18th, 20093:11 pm
So then who shall they hire since you’re such a freaking genious P-Town brave. If your stating facts now(fact being such a big word for you, good job) how do you know that other players on other teams don’t go to someone else for some help too? Wait you don’t know. I mean according to you no one gets outside help. They all come up here absolutely clueless on how to hit and never seek advice from the ones who taught them before they got to this level. They just drop them. I don’t care who the hitting coach is because Chipper is going to his dad. I’m sorry I insulted your intelligence and made you resort to namecalling. I mean so mature for a guy stating facts right. Sorry my post made you feel so threatened.
….still picturing Schafer running around in CF
April 18th, 20093:12 pm
Bobby Cox is so delusional that he thinks he is doing a great job and that if only a few hits fall in here and there the Braves will be right back on a winning streak. PULL-LEESE!
April 18th, 20093:13 pm
Tomorrow we go for 6 in a row, losses that is.. Wow, I was actually optimistic the first week of the season.. I am still not throwing in the towel, but something has got to change fast or we will be cellar dwellers.. Bring in Brian McCann’s dad as our hitting coach, and bring Mazzone back as our pitching coach.. Then if we continue to struggle, let Cox go and either bring in another manager or let Hubbard or someone like that be the interim..manager.. All I know is I am sick of watching the Braves play with no heart..
April 18th, 20093:14 pm
so basically the only two players not sucking/ailing are kelly and frenchy?
April 18th, 20093:15 pm
Forget winning…can we just score a run please?!!
OH MY GOD THE SKY IS FALLING DOWN!!!! Alright, everybody out of the pool. And don’t try to sneak back in when the Braves are leading the division again. Yes, these have been some ugly losses, but it is 2 FREAKING WEEKS INTO THE SEASON! Idiots. Blaine Boyer is gone, and it’s all gonna be ok. Baby steps to the end of the season.
April 18th, 20093:16 pm
Never realized so much of Atlanta’s fan base was so stupid.
Calm down, everyone. Geez.
April 18th, 20093:17 pm
“I like the headline that said “Braves want to see Jo-Jo go-go.”
“I hope Bowman wrote that one. It’s wayyyyyyy clever.”
Says the man who calls himself Chop Chop?
What’s the problem — trademark infringement? Hmmm? Someone steppin’ on your toes? Hmmm? Eatin’ your porridge? Hmmm? Is that it? Your turf been invaded? Hmmm?
do the minor leagues coach outfielders to run into the wall then turn back to chase the bouncing back toward the infield baseball. How long before someone – anyone – clues Jordan in on this?
Hey all i’m saying how is it TP’s fault when a player gets a pitch to hit right down the middle and pop it’s up. That is the players fault if their timing is off. Not everything is TP’s fault. Bobby bringing in Boyer in a 1 run situation that’s his fault. There are times when the coaches are to blame and their are times when there not.
April 18th, 20093:19 pm
Wrong – Kelly can’t play defense & since making his most recent damaging error, he’s quit hitting
Frenchy hitting good for average which is a vast improvement but unfortunately he has absolutely no power now.
Well at least we don’t have Blaine Boyer to kick around anymore. Now we move on to Carlyle and Bennett.
April 18th, 20093:20 pm
Why is this Bobby Cox fault?
BravesFAN885 (3:14 pm): “so basically the only two players not sucking/ailing are kelly and frenchy?”
Francoeur’s worse than Kelly.
The only Braves I don’t hate are
Sure, Stewie. I’m green with envy.
Five in a row. What is the excuse this time, Cox? Yesterday, you said it was just a game of inches. Well, it was 10-0 this time so what is the excuse? No runs in 18 innings and it is just a game of inches. Uh……
The overreactions on this blog are down right hilarious. I know we have looked bad lately but it is 2 weeks into the season. Many things need to be addressed but we HAVEN’T lost the division quite yet. Geez
TERRY PENDLETON MUST GO!
The Braves are not hitting. Time to clean house.
April 18th, 20093:21 pm
McDowell Does Need to be held accountable as well, I have been saying that for years because of the Blow-pen has been so bad during his tenure here…
glad to hear your opinion on the two draft prospects. I think that your eval matches the general consensus that I’ve read. (Steve)
appreciate your comments and links to the prospects. I really haven’t been able to spend any time at all this year with the draft. Been spending 2 hours a day 7 days a week for the last two months sitting in a doctors office getting IV antibiotics which kick me on my azs so all I wanna do is sleep half the day away. Thanks again. I hope we come up with a keeper since it’s the first time in ages that we have drafted so low.
Maybe that is Bobby’s plan for this year too. Lose a buncha games so we can draft low two years in a row?
Lose a game big and EVERYONE must go. Hilarious.
April 18th, 20093:22 pm
Overreaction in the defense of freedom is no vice.
How many more seasons of losing baseball do we have to sit through?
April 18th, 20093:24 pm
Careful zmerk13 if you don’t agree with some of them they may call you names.
I agree – there’s plenty of blame to go around
As for these goobers who keep saying it’s early, have you been around the last couple of years as this same scenerio has been repeated? Different bloggers back then who have left in shame I guess also pleaded for patience. Bobby Cox is so loved because he NEVER lites into the players. Things keep getting more ugly each year
Shh……. Don’t tell anyone. Bobby Cox died five years ago. That is just an automatron figure sitting on the Braves bench now. Unfortuantely they programmed him with the sam stupid ideas and strategies that the old Bobby Cox had.
April 18th, 20093:25 pm
I just returned from spending some time out of town. It could just be my imagination, but it seems as though the overall attitude of the blog has changed.
April 18th, 20093:26 pm
Hey Jake, I really didn’t say anything about Chipper, Escobar or McCann’s hitting. I did say, as have about every other poster here, that Terry Pendleton doesn’t seem to have much of an influence over Braves hitters. I may grant you that he may tell ‘em but they aren’t capable of hearing, or translating it into performance. Seems to me that other teams seem to be able to find our weaknesses at the plate but we don’t seem to be able to find theirs. Point is, I ain’t layin’ off any of ‘em. They’re being paid the big bucks to perform and they ain’t doin’ it.
Agree that we screwed the pooch when it comes to limiting our options in CF. We should have kept the Anderson we let go and let go the Anderson we kept…regardless of the money.
ROGER MACDOWELL MUST GO!
Don’t get me started about this idiot. Mister practical joker makes circus clowns look like serious philosophers by comparison. This guy is supposed to be a teacher and mentorer? Maybe he should first try and coach little league. Then if he is successful there, he can move on to high school ball.
April 18th, 20093:27 pm
teabag manifesto has managed to fire everyone on our staff.
April 18th, 20093:30 pm
TEABAG MANIFESTO MUST GO!!!
Hey, I like Snitker & Hubbard
Don’t take them out too teabag manifesto
Nobody can put any of this on Esco and Chipper being out considering 3 of our 4 hits came from the 3B and SS positions today.
April 18th, 20093:31 pm
I agree that it’s early. But I don’t think everyone’s overreacting (aside from those calling from Cox to be fired and players to be released).
When your top hitter, who is fragile to begin with, isn’t playing only 5-6 games into the season, that’s worrisome. When your second best hitter has blurry vision, is 1 for his last 18 and may have to get Lasik eye surgery and go on the DL for an extended period, that’s a problem. When you couple that with a bullpen that can’t find anyone who can pitch even one clean inning, that’s trouble. And when you put all that together with a team that plays shoddy defense, can’t manufacture runs, has no speed (or doesn’t utilize it) and doesn’t hit for power, that’s the makings of a long, awful season.
On Josh Anderson, just keep in mind that he was out of options and had to be on the 25-man roster if we wanted to keep him. So he’d have cost us either Norton, Prado, Infante, or Diaz (or Schafer starting in the minors).
Easy to say after a bad week that we should have started Josh in CF and put Jordan at AAA, but I don’t think most people felt that way 2 weeks ago. And I doubt they’ll feel that way 2 weeks from now.
I admit TNJeff that it may be time for Bobby to change some of his ways. I understand him not wanting to blast the players publicly but he can certainly do it behind closed doors. It made me a little mad last year when Escobar was criticized because of the way he played. Yeah he doesn’t need to be talking to the refs that way but the way he plays the game is just so opposite of the way most on this team plays. He plays with fire. He messes up and he doesn’t dwell on it.
April 18th, 20093:32 pm
Did anybody else think that JS gave JF a ‘look’ on that ball that skipped past him (Schafer) for a triple? I for one was wondering where in blazes Francoeur was. Surely if he had been moving toward the ball he could have gotten to it before Schafer. And just when KJ goes an entire game without making an error, his offense turns to crap.

BravesfanfromBirth (3:13 pm): “Wow, I was actually optimistic the first week of the season.. .. Bring in Brian McCann’s dad as our hitting coach, and bring Mazzone back as our pitching coach.. I was going to say that.
You only beat me ’cause you’ve been a Braves’ fan for so much longer — nearly TEN YEARS, huh?
Wow — twenty times longer than me.
My hat’s off, sir. You should manage the team and show them how to play with heart.
April 18th, 20093:33 pm
This team has shown they only have one weakness (strength) and it is called…….Chipper.
Results speak for themselves.
Only one great player on this team…….his name………. Chipper Jones, once he is benched no team respects us. You cant dream of winning a championship with a team with only 1 great player.
Once Chipper is down, our chances of winning are close to none. And not being capable of winning without chipper is not the only problem, but losing as bad as they do? looking as defenseless?
Mc might be sick and put up good numbers but he aint no leader yet. The rest, wouldnt waste my time talking about their lack of leadership.
Efrim – It is always his fault. But only the losses. Never the wins.
He is also responsible for the economy being down, for any crime in this country and for Global Warming,
April 18th, 20093:34 pm
Can someone please tell me why everyone thinks the last week’s poor performance is Bobby’s fault. Seriously, what do you want the man to do?? I’m as annoyed as the rest of you, but when you don’t hit the ball you are not going to win. I can’t stand Jo-Jo, but even if he only gave up 1 run today, they would have lost. Injuries are going to happen, but it would be nice if somone stepped up just once. Schaeffer is being exposed at the plate, and I can live with that, but his OF defense is terrible. He takes terrible angles on everything and needs to learn how to play the wall. G. Anderson was a waste of money. They should have let B.Jones play LF with Diaz…they would have gotten the same results. I’m actually mad at myself for being suckered in to this year being different than the last. Unfortunately, I see a long summer for the Bravos.
where’s my brother TN Brian – must be squirrel hunting
mbatl – Everyone is a genius in hindsight.
April 18th, 20093:35 pm
FRANCOEUR MUST GO!
Narcoleptic dweeb standing there daydreaming in right field while a game is going on around him. Maybe he needs to borrow some ADD meds from his buddy Adam LaRoche.
April 18th, 20093:36 pm
No, nothing missing here. Just that Bowman had a little scoop on BMac. Not uplifting, I’ll tell you that.
Yeah, that would be a shame, but he does need to get the problem fixed. I’d rather have him DL’d to fix the problem than go through another week like this.
And, Mitchell, HE DOES NOT!!!
April 18th, 20093:37 pm
10-0? Are you F-ing kidding me? In a blink, from 5-1 to 5-6. This team is in need of an enima.
Must have read the word “SUCK”, “pathetic”, “SH**” about a hundred times the last few hours and I’ll make it 101 times… T.P. IS A PATHETIC EXCUSE FOR A HITTING COACH. What, did Wren actually think last few years were flukes or something? Granted, the Braves aren’t exactly Yankee/Met rich, but a big bat in the lineup SHOULD have been a priority.
I didn’t watch the game…THANK GOD! 10-0 to any team, especially Pit. and they should be ashamed. I’m telling you, Terry needs to get the hell on! He isn’t working right with these guys and the job should be given to Ron Gant if they feel they should be “loyal” to one of their own. Gant might just be the answer to guys hitting more consistant. That’s really what it is, consistancy. McDowell…see ya, hit the road too.
“Seriously, what do you want the man to do??”
The game has passed him by. He has no control over his team. The team is fundamentally unsound.
His judgment with respect to who he keeps on the roster and which relief pitcher he brings in to the game is absolutely pathetic.
teabag manifesto…you’re an idiot.
Even the nats can beat the marlins……..go figure
April 18th, 20093:38 pm
Dirty Dawg since I personally don’t know what TP does tell the players I often go off of what the announcers say. When they talk about what he tells the players what he is saying is right. Now you may be right and them not taking it in. But to me that’s more the players fault. Just from watching the games myself these guys just mentally give up. If TP isn’t inspiring them than yes maybe they do need someone else, but sometimes you have to inspire yourself.
18 Wheels of Love
Wow. Yard work more fun than watching the Braves….sad times they are. Listening on the radio is much less painful.
April 18th, 20093:39 pm
Serious question – early in game down 1-0 I think, did anyone else think possibly having Jordan bunt runner on first over to second & then hope Reyes could hit would have been a good idea. I know Reyes stuck out but perhaps he could have bunted too (how many outs were there stat boys?)
April 18th, 20093:40 pm
“teabag manifesto…you’re an idiot.”
And how is it in the Garden State: a garden of petroleum vats and medical waste.
NEW JERSEY MUST GO!
But its early.......LOL? (Doc H.)
BRAVES DONT DESERVE WINNING RIGHT NOW……..SO ITS A GOOD THING THEY ARE NOT.
April 18th, 20093:41 pm
I think I just need to keep my thoughts to myself when it comes to negative things. I was the only one, I think, that said McCann is having problems with his eye and it got no response. Well, if he’s out for awhile, kiss the season good bye. Early my A**…now, if we were in the NL west, and we lost Mac or Chipper for awhile that would be another story, but…
NJ Braves. Obviously you have not been watching this sorry excuse for a team the last 3 years. Its the same thing game in game out. Bobby Cox is the main reason this team sux. He should be jettisoned out of town. We actually need to clean house with these guys going as well:
Wren, Pendleton, and McDowell. WHY is no one held accountable. We have a poor team on the field—WREN. We cannot hit—-Pendleton. We have no bullpen—McDowell. And Bobby Cox is touted as a Hall of Fame Manager because he won back in the era with Smoltz and Maddox. This team has no knowledge of fundamental baseball and that is Cox’s fault.
Bro – didn’t watch the game / you went squirrel hunting without me. you dog
Not so fast Doc because the fish just tied the game.
mfinBrian321 (formerly TnJeff04)
April 18th, 20093:42 pm
teabag manifesto’s right — the Braves need to totally clean house and get a whole new crew of good mentorers!
Copncerned about McCann. I almost had lasik surgery a couple of years ago but read some horror stories of what could happen and sided against it. It only happened in 1-2% of cases but geez that seems like a risk anyway.
I wonder if we could hire Pat Coralles back from the Nationals so someone would tell Jordan Schafer to back up.
the fish tied it in the 9th…………thats a team………not our joke 25 man roster.
April 18th, 20093:44 pm
our offense about to get weaker, McCann probably will go on the DL
April 18th, 20093:46 pm
Teabag Manifesto. You are right on brother. As for NJ Braves, Delta is ready when you are with 12 flights daily BACK to NJ.
JasonInFL (Formerly ME)
uh, not so fast on the Nats being able to beat the Marlins…man, they are not…the Marlins that is…
April 18th, 20093:47 pm
Jordan is a great example of this outfield rule – it’s much easier to run in on a ball than to run back on it. It’s also much better when you have a pathetic pitching staff (bp) to try to keep all the hit balls in front of you to minimize the damage that’s coming
But dose anyone associated with the Braves care. The is no HEART in this team or any other Braves team since the days of David Justice. How about some flat out hustle and fire…..
We talk baseball, other sports, music, movies, BBQ and whatever (except politics or religion)
