Lefty chokes a lot. He just isnt clutch. And I was asking a question about the Masters if he had won it. It wasnt a statement of fact, it was a question.
cheld, we need a starter for the 18th. Jo-Jo Reyes made a start on the 10th. I imagine he throws 2 innings on the 15th and they let Medlen make a long appearance then Reyes rests for 2 days before making Glavine’s start on the 18th.
If you turn the red all the way down on your color control, put on dark sunglasses, open your front door and go out look at the tv from about your mailbox, closing your eyes, the color that’s still left coming through off of those jerseys: that’s red.
Those uni’s are so bright, the sun said “Damn.”
The Russians think we’re testing a new weapon on some Sundays.
The friendly aliens that were about to land and show us the way to world peace; they squinted and went back home.
They tried to make that into a crayon and burnt down the Crayola factory.
Obama thinks those uni’s might be the key to oil-free energy.
Satan called the uniforms “overstated.”
That big flaming eye in Lord of the Rings saw one of those jerseys and proposed marriage to it.
Saw Jeff’s first triple earlier today (didn’t see much else with all the fam around), and that is EXACTLY the approach he needs to have at the plate. If he does that (or gets into a habit of attempting it), he will knock in 120 runs this year.
From what I saw early, JJJ was pretty good early, yet the box score dictates that he lost it at some point.
Either way 5-1 is a VERY nice start to this season.
Bring on Tommy Hanson, and lets get this party started.
Jeff321 (2:40 pm): ”TnBrian; The bunny girl looked like a skank, unless that’s your style.”
TnBrian (2:44 pm): ” Jeff, my TV is old so I only saw some of her. Everyone looks like a midget ever since I dropped the tv down the stairs.”
Jeff321 (2:48 pm): ” TnBrian I feel your pain. I’m currently using a 21″ monitor hooked up to a second computer for a television. Btw, by “skank” I just meant how she was dressed — not anything else.”
TnBrian (3:09 pm): ” Jeff, I have a pretty old pioneer 53″ or whatever it is, which it’s a nice tv, but there’s at least 2/3 inches of black on the bottom of the screen…people look like midgets.”
Bobby the Pirate – Ok, dude; and Bush knew about the 911 attacks and Osama bin Laden was colluding with the republicans. If your going to wage a war for a cause, fight for the cause not the cash. I’m certain the media would cover the story if it was indeed accurate. C’mon man, anything not “green” is more than newsworthy today. Love your country bro. Seriously, too much has been sacrificed and too much good has come from it…. i.e. the computer/electricity/internet/baseball you are enjoying now.
DOB hatin’ on the red jerseys again…Nothing wrong with them. Great alternative home uniform look for the Braves (I have to say that, I’ve got one!)
I have to say I’m not a fan of the dark blue away jerseys…but as long as they win it doesn’t matter. Last year there was a theory with the road unies and a jinx of some sort, where they were trying different caps to wear.
I take away, the Nationals maybe the worst team in MLB…again. Braves should beat up on them this year and reverse that horrible 6-12 mark from a year before. Braves should go 14-4 against the Nats, or there abouts, b/c there won’t be any other “gimmies” in the division.
Those wishing for the Marlins to be “brought on” Tuesday…be careful what you wish for. Marlins look like the best all around team in the division at this point. Their lineup is firing on all cylinders right now…but the Braves do get lucky (as far as the starters they are going to face in the 3 game set).
If the Braves manage to sweep the Marlins, that will be impressive (considering how well both teams are playing right now)
Meanwhile…Phillies fans should be worried about their starting pitching. Very worried. Mets fans should be worried about their starters not named Santana.
Looks like Braves and Marlins have the best all around starting rotations in this division…which logically means…if they stay healthy, they could be the 2 top teams as well!. It all goes back to starting pitching and team health.
Meanwhile, I’m looking like a genious in my fantasy baseball league for picking up Jordan Schafer before the season started! Don’t let me down Jordan:)
Liked the red jersey look since we won. Feels like the early 90’s again instead of the late 80’s. GO BRAVES. Amazing what solid starting pitching can do for a club.
Fantastic outing for Charlie Mortin. Since it appears that there is no room in the rotation. He has the type of power arm that woul look greaqt coming out of the pen.
Oh hey DOB I meant to ask this on the 1st page but got wrapped up in the game and stuff…
Forgive me if this is a dumb question that everyone else knows the answer to (and if someone else does, feel free to answer) Where is that picture from of an article titled “On Top of the World” you have up with Schafer’s picture on the blog today? I thought it might be an article about him but I googled and can find no such thing and I can’t enlarge your pic big enough to read the text.
In the end,
it will not matter,
with Bobby Cox,
as our manager!
1-14 career record in the last of the postseason. That’s a .067 winning percentage with ony Tom Glavine’s one hitter in game 6 of the 1995 World Series preventing a Bobby Cox managed team from watching their opponent celebrate on the mound all 15 opportunities afforded him by his GM, scouting department, and minor league development. Bobby Cox is the worst in-game decision making manager in post season history.
It seems like in recent years the Marlins get off to a hot start, then fade as the lack of depth past the regulars, and the lack of experience of a young team, starts to catch up with them by the All-Star Break.
Speaking of hot starts – Josh Johnson (who out dueled Santana today) so far this season:
2 starts: 2-0,15.2 IP, 15 SO, 1 BB, 1 ER (12 hits though), for a 0.83 WHIP and a 0.57 ERA.
Lucky for us, the Braves won’t see him when the Marlins’ visit Atlanta next week.
I know it’s far to early to know anything official and you said Carol would work on it tomorrow – am I asking for your pure speculation here -
What are the chances Hanson makes a start next weekend in Pittsburgh? I am curious because I’ve got dugout seats at PNC for both the Sat and Sunday game (got a friend in Pittsburgh and flights are cheap right now out of ATL) I’m trying to decide how excited to let myself be.
Other than the pen, I’m thinking our weakest links are backup at 1st and centerfield. If it plays out that way we’re not looking too shabby, ’cause I still believe the pen will straighten itself out. Don’t know enough about O’Flaherty yet but if Boyer doesn’t get his mind right that may be the only weak link.
DOB, for a guy with no time to crunch numbers you did a pretty good job of crunching numbers. Good job as usual.
We will see Anibal Sanchez, Chris Volstad, and Andrew Miller this coming week. Pretty good break when you don’t have to face Nolasco or a red-hot Josh Johnson.
I swear the traffic in midtown is worse than anywhere else in Atlanta except maybe Marietta and the chumps stuck on 285 going to Conyers… So I guess – yeah, Midtown has the worst ATLANTA traffic because those other places are essentially bumfu-k.
Of course the traffic situation doesn’t really apply to the discussion of red Sunday uniforms and the stereotypes pervading most bloggers’ minds regarding the demographics of Midtown, but it is my 2-cents on Midtown.
No matter the final outcome of the Masters, it’s been beautiful to see two of the best at their craft come out of the locker room with bad intentions and screw-the-deficit gunslinging. Just a wee bit entertaining. That they weren’t able to finish the gunfight means little, next to the attempt.
My brother and I started laughing at 2, at a comment one of us made that Phil would find, somewhere in the round, a shot that he probably wouldn’t try at the Toledo Open, much less the Masters, and would think to himself, “Well, what the heck, I’ve never tried that shot before, let’s give it a try. It’s just Sunday at the Masters.” That was before the blistered the sucker for a front-nine 30, of course. We shut up for a while after that.
Any experts on here that can shed any light on appealing the fourth out of an inning. Dodgers scored a second inning run when Arizona failed to appeal a runner scoring from third who did not tag up. With one out and runners on second and third the batter line back to the pitcher who threw to the second baseman who taged out the runner off second. He did not step on the bag. The runner from third chugged accross home and the D-Backs left the field. The ever cerebral Rick Monday popped out of the dugout and sited rule book 7.0 something and the run counted. Something about only the pitcher and infielders being able to appeal the Fourth Out prior to leaving the field! Sports Center at eleven!
DOB: I agree 100%. Red jerseys = not good.
Don’t like the blue ones either. But I love the blue hat. Perfect road cap, kinda like the Cubs with unique home and road caps. Can’t stand the “Angels In The Outfield” style Sunday-Red-Jersey cap… the one with the tomahawk in it. Bad deal there too. Think it should stay with the nice script capital “A.”
Agreed as well on the moving of Schafer. I love what this guy is doing. More than I could have imagined. But at the same time, I have to keep myself sober and realize that once the scouting report is out, Schafer will appear to “struggle.” How well he adjusts to this come late May or June, will determine how good he will be overall. But this hot start doesn’t hurt. Keep him where he is. I like the constant threat throughout the lineup.
I’m thinking that Jo-Jo or Charlie Morton is more likely to get the call than Hanson, at this point. They’d have to skip Hanson’s next turn (since he pitched Thursday), have him go more than a week between starts, and add him to the 40-man roster.
Salamander, traffic isn’t a big issue when all you have to do is drive from Midtown to the ballpark at about 1 or 2 p.m., then home at 11 p.m. or later.
Makes a little more sense than driving a half-hour or more from the ‘burbs, if you don’t have kids and all that.
Hey guys…do you know what’s the best way to buy some tickets???.. im planning to go to Citi Field in our first away series againts the Mets…soo online or idk….personally??.. please help..1st timer here ;p
I don’t know Mr. Jim. My first thought was that you had the keyboard upside down. However, we can throw that theory out. The rest of the letters are fine. It’s very puzzling, indeed.
Felt like, all along JoJo would be the first called but his first start didn’t go well. Anybody know details? I mean, stats aren’t good but how’d he look otherwise?
Where’s Anders and his pithy (oops did I just lisp?) comments? Seems like every time things are going well for the Braves and/or poorly for the Mets that he is too busy with all those important clients of his to continue his dialog with this board. Not that I’m complaining mind you.TROLL!
Oh, I’d live in Midtown over the suburbs in a heartbeat given the shorter commute to work, etc (currently live in Reynold’s Town, which is in between Little Five and East Atlanta for those who don’t know). I think I’ve just had terrible luck with Midtown – been stuck on Munroe around Ansley Mall at about 4pm on a Friday a few too many times.

Happy Easter everyone.
Nice to have a Braves sweep as well.

I don’t know Mr. Jim. My first thought was that you had the keyboard upside down. However, we can throw that theory out. The rest of the letters are fine. It’s very puzzling, indeed.
