Steve from OH: Regarding your 5:35 p.m. comment. Outfielders will tell you exactly that problem arises when they first get to the majors, guys who’ve never played in anything other than minor league ballparks and spring-training parks.
Listen, there’s no concern about his defense among the Braves or anyone who’s seen Schafer play for any significant stretch. He can flat-out play strong defense. That’s not an issue.
Not going to argue anymore, you get a little too defensive. I’m sure the bloggers here could go through thousands of scouting reports and find thousands of innacurate or wrong statements about propsects to refute your assumption that scouts are right because you found something that agrees with your argument.
So, can it be settled that Jordan has elite CF potential and all the tools to realize that potential?
Outfielders will tell you exactly that problem arises when they first get to the majors, guys who’ve never played in anything other than minor league ballparks and spring-training parks.
DOB this is exactly what I said at the end of my ORIGINAL comment.
Maybe he’s just taking some time to adjust to the parks.
Steve –
Did you see my original post when you talked about parks…that’s what I was talking about.
I stated “They did say he worked really hard this spring on his fielding every day, so hopefully he’s just getting used to the 2nd and 3rd level of seats (major adjustment) behind home plate and down the 1st/3rd baselines on all the stadiums now that he’s playing in.”
DOB: One of the big questions of Spring Training was how well McCain and the new pitchers would be able to get used to each other. What comments have the pitchers made so far about pitching to McCain and how well do they like how he calls a ball game. It has looked pretty good so far to me. Thanks
Bruised thumb today, Next week it will be a fever blister on his Butt. We need a real man to step up at 3rd. I am getting tired of the little pansy injuries sidelining this wimp.
I’m not defensive. I’m attacking your principle that because I don’t personally know scouts my argument isn’t valid. That’s the opposite of defensive. That’d be offensive.
I can hear Bobby now… The BUll Pen is overorked. Our starters need to go deeper in the game. BS We still have a third rate bull pen and a wannabe closer! Lowe takes a shutout 8 innings and we turn it over to the bullpen. Vasquez gives the bull pen a 10 – 3 lead and……..

whatever. is he injury prone? yes. does he hit for >.300 with power? yes. suck it up and take the good with the bad.
Braves went to spring training thinking bullpen, if Moylan and Soriano were healthy, might be their second-biggest strength (after rotation). Turns out it could be their biggest weakness.

Why are we playing situation and matchups with a 7 run lead? Just put Campillo or Buddy in to get the last 9 outs!
Somehow, some way, we’ll end up using Soriano and Gonzalez again.
