He is missing one game. I rather him miss today’s game then have a recurring problem THE WHOLE YEAR. Do the math. He is the best switch-hitter in the game, he deserves the respect he has earned. Even if he isn’t hurt, I don’t want him playing in this cold weather. This will be the only cold game of the season. Rest up boy, get ready for the series opener where it’ll be 75 degrees!
I’ve got to be honest. I didn’t think I’d hear Boog say “The Braves continue to show off the power” in the 5th inning of game 3 when this series started. Schafer and Mac lead the team in homers.
supposed to be chilly Friday in the ATL for the opener. If I went, I would need to get a kitchen pass from the old lady. Cause after the game I know I will be haeaded to magic City
so what do you guys have on the over under for schafer’s homers considering he only hit 12.. I think.. all of last year!
Not that many appearances for him last year, after missing 50 games. His HR rate stayed about the same as the year before, though, if remember right. He’s got the pop to hit 20, but he hasn’t had to make ML adjustments yet, either. Best we see how he handles that before projecting any stat for the year.
I’m surprised there hasn’t been much made of the Braves’ curveballs this season. Last season they entered with a rotation of Smoltz, Glavine, Hudson, Hampton, and Jurrjens. Jurrjens, Hampton, and Smoltz don’t throw curveballs and it’s a tertiary pitch at best for Hudson and Glavine. This year we’ve got Vazquez, Kawakami, and Lowe whose best or 2nd best pitches are all curveballs. Something new in Atlanta. I really like Kawakami’s get me over.
Can Vasquez can start throwing strikes again here? What the hell?
I don’t care, 9-3 is safe enough for me. I mean, I don’t think the offensive onslaught is letting up any time soon but Vasquez is tryin’ to let them back in it.
“phillies fans on twitter are brushing this off as “we always suck in april” How cute.”
Actually, that’s pretty much true. Their bats will get going when the weather heats up, but I do wonder about their pitching. Anyway, make hay while the sun is shining, Braves.
Is it crazy to think Schafer can hit 20+ HR’s? I realize any player, especially a rookie can go into slumps, but he’s so still and balanced with a great swing that just think he’ll stay pretty consistant.
Vazquez’ outing today reminds me of a Russ Ortiz outing when he was a Brave.
cabravesfan you are right i forgot right after i posted that, but throughout his minor league career the highest he hit was only 15 in one year. still… i guess i should go up on my home run expectations.. hopefully this doesn’t get his mind focused only on hitting the long ball though. he needs to be our leadoff hitter at some point
Me either, Rob. Matt Diaz hits too well. I think it was last year when they showed him with a stat of something like 3rd highest overall batting average in the majors since 2005, just under A-roid and some other guy.
MLBTV just finished the bottom of the fifth as Gameday was finishing the top of the sixth. So at work, one can preview Gameday to see if you want to see the video.
Schafer is on pace to hit 108 hr’s this year. Of course, that’s based on him playing all 162 games. Also, this is a hitter’s ballpark. So, more than likely, he won’t hit quite that many.
