I was surprised to see Blanton back out there…but I guess Charlie was thinking the same thing as us…this could be a 12-10 game…and he doesn’t want to use up his BP in the middle innings.
If the strike zone gets bigger, it favors the team in the lead. That’s if it gets bigger equally.
Y’all keep in mind it is 48 degrees with a 20 mph wind, but I can’t see it.

seriously, i’m sure your assesment of schafer’s defense is more accurate than major league scouts… they say he’s an outstanding defensive CF, but your experience says he’s not. you’re right
The way this inning has gone, I’m surprised McCann wasn’t rung up.
Ump still deciding what he wants the strike zone to be…
April 8th, 20094:31 pm
Chipper just missed the first of his 52 games on the pine for thumb issues…..
Another typically great at bat from Mac
It hit the screen wtf are you serious.
WHAT? who called bobby’s 1st ejection? here it comes…
Hahaha did you see Escobar laughing back there
That is a tough call, 18 wheels. DOB needs to ponder that question in his next blog poll.
That home plate umpire is a JOKE!
Haha.. they got it right but how on earth do you miss that?!

Jeff shows off that discerning eye once again
the trade for Ohman and Infante was a pretty good trade in my way of thinking
2nd life, Kotch. Do something with it.
From an ex CF – I don’t understand where the praise has come from with Schafer in CF. I watched his routes in ST and saw him take a terrible route to a fly ball
I agree with nscoots. Are you drawing your conclusion about his playing ability from your glory days in JV Baseball or playing for some old men’s league on the weekend?..Get real.
I am willing to give Schaeffer the benfit of the doubt, you only learn by being out there and playing every day. Gregor makes thos plays both today and last night’s
Slugger, when you play at Lassiter, all others pale by comparison. We were getting lights my senior year at OU, so we played a few at Pope, like I said nice field, much nicer than when I played there in high school. That’s all I was saying. No offense intended.
April 8th, 20094:33 pm
Freddy Freeman anyone?
Wow…im glad they got that right.
ascanio is still in the minors
April 8th, 20094:34 pm
Don Sutton said Jeff was jumping up and down like a kid caught in a ant bed. Sutton is priceless
April 8th, 20094:35 pm
Kotchy, you were s’posed to get a hit after they reversed the call.
Still was fun…I’ve always wanted to see a call reversed in our favor.
what exactly happened?
Ok we need a first baseman that can hit. Put Prado or Norton in…mid-game…teach him a lesson. This is GARBAGE!
April 8th, 20094:36 pm
I’m going to pretend we got Infante, Ohman and Tex in the Rangers trade…that trade still ….is bad
I don’t think Fox has enough sponsored random “events” for this broadcast.
Vazquez looks a little timid after that Ibanez HR instead of doing what Lowe and JJ did… go after big boy!
Andrew in P-tang
how bout a 1-2-3 inning here
April 8th, 20094:37 pm
What happend with Krotchman? Reversal, wha?
it is spelled aunt bed
can someone give a game status update for a cubical dweller?
Get it together javy, got a pinch hitter on deck
I’m told that there are still seats available for the home opener Friday. It’s $2 cheaper to buy tix now rather than day of game, from what I’m told by Braves person.
OK, I’ve done my public service. Buy tix if you want to.
(Should be pretty cool night, with the ceremony to honor Professor Pete before the game. Anybody check the weather forecast yet?)
April 8th, 20094:38 pm
7-3 Braves, 1 Out Bot 4
Nice start to the 4th for Javier…2 quick outs
Lunatic Fringe – It’s 7-3 Braves, bottom 4th. They just pinch-hit for Blanton.
What happened to Grinch and Tennessee Paul, do they have their own blog now
April 8th, 20094:39 pm
I looked before opening day and it said rain. I don’t know what it’s saying now.
Nate from NCState
7-3 Braves.. bottom of the 4th and javy is mowing em down.. actually just struck out his 3rd of the day, pitching OK.
glorydays, you keep bringing up the Tex trade. It’s been discussed pretty thoroughly.
What are you suggesting? We grab our torches and gather outside the Schuerholz estate? It’s history, dude. JS is no longer the GM, and we’ve got a good team and a good farm system. Get over it.
There we go… 1-2-3
1-2-3 in the bottom of the 4th, still 7-3 (obviously)
Wonderful, thanks Nick and BBB. Hopefully Javier can last a few more innings.
April 8th, 20094:40 pm
MFin04, I noticed that, too. Boo Probly could get me in trouble watchin here at work, anyway. Bad enough to be on the blog.
now it says scattered T-storms for Friday.
Dave, 50% chance of rain friday…not to good.
Thunderstorms supposed to happen Friday night, DOB.
javy 1 2 3 inning, see we don’t need the bully yet
Way to get in that Phillies middle relief, which is no relief at all for the Phils. They suck truck nuts!
April 8th, 20094:41 pm
Javy’s ERA down to 6.75 after that… Of course, Blanton’s is at 15.75!
DOB Is Pete easy going. Occassionally I would look up in the press box last year at ST and his expression looked like he would bite the head off a kitten
What happened with kotch; Fall ball to the back stop behind the catcher, bounces out of the catchers gloves and rolls off the screen and then into his hand. Umps originally called it a foul out until the braves started yelling at them to converse about it.
It sure helps when you keep rollins off the bases….good job with him all series long for the braves….Vazquez included.
Do you think the Yankees would trade Teixeira to the Braves?
Glorydays, we got Infante and Jurrjens in that trade…not Ohman.
April 8th, 20094:42 pm
We should have field day with a guy named J.A. Happ
Now that the phillies pen has the ball the braves won’t score any more, hope 7 runs is enough.
Way to get in that Phillies middle relief, which is no relief at all for the Phils.
Wooses, of the first magnitude.
April 8th, 20094:43 pm
What happened with McCann last inning??
If this Phillies pitcher goes on the DL, I guess that would make them Happ-less. (ouch)
April 8th, 20094:44 pm
I bring up the Tex trade because it is going to keep looking worse over time, I can’t get past what our farm system would be like without that trade. I’m in therapy.
April 8th, 20094:45 pm
kagevsu….I believe ur mistaken
April 8th, 20094:46 pm
Hey, we took a shot with the Tex trade, things didn’t work out, let’s move on. We still have a farm system that is the envy of most other teams, and are in position to be very, very good for a long time.
Diaz takes a walk
schafer home run 9-3
Rob from SC
Homer off a LHP
Where are the Studfer haters now?
what did the frenchanader do?
Aw, I guess they can keep that kid up here; the bat’s making up for the glove!
Are you kidding me? Schafer homers AGAIN.
(And on the one-year ann. of his 50-game suspension)
who needs Triple A
April 8th, 20094:47 pm
Schafer! What, what!
Ok he is ready
Sweet Schafer makes up for the drops
do work jordan schafer
way to go Logan
Someone was saying something about Schafer not hitting the ball hard?
Diaz is pretty nimble for fat LF. Way to get back to the bag at 1B
Jordan Schaffer = Man Beast in Training!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
another HR for Schafer?? This kid will be sorry to leave Philly
I’m as giddy as a school-girl!
kid has skills
Woo-hoo! Schafer knocks another home run, this time to right. Diaz who worked the count for a walk scores ahead of him. Take that and a side of fries, Phillies!
April 8th, 20094:48 pm
Sure is quiet up there.
GOOD THING THE BRAVES DONT HAVE ANY POWER, HERP DERP HERP DERP.
so what do you guys have on the over under for schafer’s homers considering he only hit 12.. I think.. all of last year!
I’m going with 12 again.. maybe 14 max
wow. I know it is the first week of the season. But we are making a statement
We talk baseball, other sports, music, movies, BBQ and whatever (except politics or religion)
