I would get Buddy Carlyle up now
I played at Pope ( i think i said that, but just to clarify).
Milton is a porch, launching pad, little league field… all of the above.
One time Bruce Chen’s brother hit a ball there against my summer team that just vanished somehwere 300 ft above the right field wall.
What a bomb, and he raked.
Speaking of raking – go Braves. If Diaz is hitting righties like this, I don’t mind having Garret’s professionalism as a professional pinch hitter.
Brooklyn Braves Brawler
Can schafer catch anything?
could be a long one this afternoon…may get to see some of the game afterall
happy birthday mcfann.
We all were really spoiled with Andruw all those years
April 8th, 20094:15 pm
Is this guy playing center ready for the majors?
Aw come on guys (again)
F***, we are falling apart
Ugh…from bad to worse
7-3 error on the 3b
so these have been catchable balls out there to center?
What the hell happened to our defense? Kotchman’s got to get that.
thats where we miss chipper
Ok. Sometimes I miss old Andruw Jones. I realize he isn’t what he used to be. But both fly balls Schafer missed. ‘Druw would have caught them.
now grace muttley is up and we threw it away
Schafer has had some smart at bats and has been phenomenal in CF, get off his case right now. Or else.
April 8th, 20094:16 pm
Schafer is looking bad in center. Had a good AB last inning though. Just has to keep his head up. Come on Javy get us out of this mess.
Infante buckles under pressure..
Kinda miss josh Anderson right about now.
howard out to schafer
I bet Kotchman makes that play 9 out of 10 times ugh!!
Get out of this with just 1

Yes, we were spoiled with AJ’s defense. Scahfer is and will be fine. Small adjustment period but no worries from me. But yeah, the defensive bar has been set reeeaaalll high.
Not really, Lewie. It’s not like he’s dropping routine fly balls, these are difficult plays.
Glad the bullpen is rested and has an off day tomorrow….looks like we might need to go to them pretty early in this one.
schafer slipped a little bit that caused him not to get to the ball
Neither of those plays by Schafer were easy. Give me a break. He was fully extended on the second one and laid out for it. The kid can play D.
3-1 Chelsea….streak stays alive
Now on to the business at hand…LET’S GO BRAVES!
April 8th, 20094:18 pm
Maybe DOB can tell us if the wind is really swirling in the outfield more than normal.
Much better throw, retard slid into 1st.
Muuuuuuuccch better, Infante.
Renegator, Kelly Johnson was the leadoff hitter in each of the first two lineups, the original plus after Chipper got scratched. But after G. Anderson also got scratched, he adjusted the lineup at the top, because he had to have a new No. 3 hitter and wasn’t going to put Diaz or Infante there.
Ibanez up, come on Javy
I think Vazquez is a humidity pitcher. The cold has to affecting him right now. Maybe that’s why he doesn’t pitch well in Oct. cause it’s colder. Who knows, but I do know he better not blow this big lead!
javy is not pitching badly and is pitching to contact, just some near misses in the field.
Bruised Thumb!!!! Give me a break! Baseball players are a bunch of overpaid pansies. You wouldn’t see a hockey player missing a game because he got a whittle bruise on his thumb. 3rd game of the season….what a joke! Go Braves!!
thanks stephen…all i have is a gameday and this and the gameday keeps saying that the ball was deflected by him and had no idea what that meant
April 8th, 20094:19 pm
javy is pitching good don’t need the bull pen yet, so we gave up 1 run so far chill out braves 7 phillies 3
i’d drill raul

From an ex CF – I don’t understand where the praise has come from with Schafer in CF. I watched his routes in ST and saw him take a terrible route to a fly ball…since BA normally takes great routes, I found it interesting the announcer kept saying it was BA screwing up.
Turned out to be Jordan, and you could tell by his routes. Speed and a great arm can only go so far in CF. Pre-pitch position, first steps and routes really define a great CF.
They did say he worked really hard this spring on his fielding every day, so hopefully he’s just getting used to the 2nd and 3rd level of seats (major adjustment) behind home plate and down the 1st/3rd baselines on all the stadiums now that he’s playing in.
ok so the Phillies play by play guy, forget his name, keeps BREATHING on the mic and its freaking annoying
Infante has had some tough plays at 3rd….looking good. First one should have been caught by Kotch.
What is the pitch count on Javier?
Ease up folks, this ain’t September… Schafer is a ROOKIE.
For those who hadn’t figured it out, this is why Jurrjens is the #2 guy…
im here stephen. Okay-we’ll throw in Braves as a contender. You will have to go thru phillie if you want this division
way to get out of that, lets get some more here
what’s going on?
April 8th, 20094:21 pm
Nice play infante, looking a little chipper like, top of the 4th.
Good damage control
DOB, any idea what type of pitch count Javy is on today? Will he be able to hang around through 5 and qualify for the win?
Tough luck for Javy today. One of the runs on the HR shouldn’t have been on base (Schafer should’ve caught that ball off Howard); and this run shouldn’t have either (Schafer should’ve caught the Victorino triple too). Both of those runs are earned, but never should’ve scored. (and I’m not down on Schafer… he’s just not having a good day)
that triple by Victorino, I was surprised Schafer even got that close, the majority of major league CF’s let it drop and he almost had it diving
Pitch count is 58 on Javy….should have at least a couple more innings in him, hopefully can get through 6.
Schafer doesn’t look bad in center… MY GOD!
gamecenter is showing 58 pitches
Slugger, George Lombard did the same off me…twice. Pope was a nice field, the year after I graduated, one of the East Cobb traveling teams really spruced it up. You know Steve Loureiro?
Darrin "The Vent King"

7-2 in the third, looking good. Crap, Schaffer just blew a center field catch- anyway the Bravos are looking decent in this series. I hope they can do well this season. I still have my lingering doubts about the hitting despite of today’s results, but so far this pitching has been superb. If Soriano and Gonzo can stay healthy they may just have a shot at the wildcard. I’ve always like Gonzo and like seeing him close games. He’s a gamer…
I like Omar, but i am a big martin prado fan. That guy can hit and pick it in the infield
Beat them Fillies!!
Kurdt…to be fair to Vasquez, Jurrjens didn’t pitch up to his ability either. He left balls up, and the Phillies were just not hitting them. You can’t leave balls up against these boppers or they will be hit out of this matchbox. Vasquez is getting bad breaks but he is fine.
HOLY CRAP OMAR INFANTE IS A STUD AT THIRD!
Of those 58 pitches, only 33 strikes though.
April 8th, 20094:23 pm
Thanks for the pitch count guys. He should have a easy inning next time as long as he can locate and not walk as many.
I was just looking at the bench on CBS Sports Game center, and it said we have a “J. Perry” as a backup RF. Anyone? don’t remember this guy at all
double by infante.
Infante can rake!
April 8th, 20094:24 pm
i don’t know if i can think of many guys i’d rather have off the bench than omar infante.
No offense. That field looks the way it does because of Jeff Rowland (coach).
That field is his baby. Our park was a porch (360 to CF, 315 L and R) but the air was just always dead there. Brandon Boggs’ bombs even had a tough time going out. It’s an odd field to try to hit, that’s for sure.
A bruise and a tweak? Lou Gehrig is out their laughing hysterically.
April 8th, 20094:25 pm
Go Infante!!! Good signs!
Javy is professional pitcher, every pitch dosen’t need to be a strike. he may be setting up other pitches. You gotta be careful with the Phillies lineup
Way to go Omar!
I also think part of the reason Jurrjens is 2 is because of what he did for the team last year. He earned that spot.
Umm….anyone else want to order an Infante jersey at MLB.com?
Wow, completely outside. Retarded umpire.
Schafer should have had 1st ball (tough play). 2nd ball maybe Sizemore gets it, but no one else.
Is Eric Gregg behind the plate?
Kelly just got hosed.
LOL, i was thinking the same thing. But it also shows ridgeway in our ‘pen so im not sure how accurate that is. according to them the braves have a 27 man roster. no wonder we are doing so well……
April 8th, 20094:26 pm
bruises and tweaks are a lot bigger deals early in the season in cold weather games… if they can ride the pine to get better and the team wins (winning) then so be it.
Wow….if gametracker is accurate at all, that K on Kelly was a terrible call….
Lou Gherig is dead, not laughing. LOL!
Was that pitch to KJ really as outside as Gameday made it look?
Nate from NCState
BBFCFM that would be Javarious Perry.. a lucky fan who won a contest to be a back up for the Atlanta Braves. Kind of like “Knight School”, or what the Dallas Cowboys are doing.
I’m not sure how that was a strike….
April 8th, 20094:27 pm
Ump must have an early flight.
Lassiter’s field is 2 miles down the road and the ball just FLYS out of there (the way the wind is set up).
Yall shoulda seen Jeff Francouer hit there in the playoffs… their head coach was quoted in the playoffs saying “We’re not afraid of him, and we won’t let one guy beat us.”
He did. I think he had 4 HR and two saves both years they beat Lassiter.
Yeah, it was caba. I realize it’s cold out there but call strikes, seriously.
As far as the future goes, doesnt Escobar look pretty solid in the #3 spot. Also, I get that feeling this will be the 1st ejection of the season for Bobby
That was GARBAGE!
Lol, another worthless call. Come on McCann.
Where’d they find these Umps?
I’ve always wondered who has better judgment making up a lineup card, an ex-CF’er on a blog or a future HOF’er with 14 straight titles and a world series ring? I have an idea but I am just not 100%.
April 8th, 20094:28 pm
From an ex CF – I don’t understand where the praise has come from with Schafer in CF. I watched his routes in ST and saw him take a terrible route to a fly ball
No offense, but you watched in ST, he took a bad route, and from that you conclude that he’s subpar? Based on your previous playing experience at whatever level?
I’ve watched the kid for two years in the minors, and, believe me, you couldn’t be more wrong in your analysis. I’ll put that down to not having seen him enough to make an informed decision. It’s often wise to refrain from drawing conclusions without enough data to support them.
Our bench is legit yall…Infante is doing it.
Kepp goin Javy, get your W man. This is a tough tough team that will get hot, hopefully after we leave
Touche on the ridgeway. Hadn’t noticed. Yep I have no idea
infante double to lead off the inning
An ex CF? Get real…..H.S and Softball don’t count. Schafer is LEGIT in CF…but hes a friggin rookie yall, relax!
We talk baseball, other sports, music, movies, BBQ and whatever (except politics or religion)
