In all honesty, can anyone remember a worse loss? I think this is worse than when Kelly dropped the pop-up…
Dang how big was that 8th inning run now?
Way to go Matt!
Diaz gets on first and Schafer homers. Pray with me, bretheren.
signs of life??
Thanks Bennett for giving up insurance run!
leif garret anderson
This blowpen exploded faster than the old blog when it hit 1000 posts.
And there’s jeffy swinging at balls in the dugout again.
phishing with the braves
yeah, this is only the third game of the season but if you dont think this will play into the psyche of our team and mainly our pen, then you sir are an idiot.
Francoeur is a stiff
April 8th, 20096:33 pm
New swing = .231
It all went horribly wrong when we didn’t get different faces in the Bull Pen over the Winter.. that’s where.
N Nine (Boyer needs to go)
When Glavine comes back, wonder who get the ax, I got an idea!
There is hope!
Oh shoot! It’s a one run game on the road. Please guys, get the other run! Otherwise, this game will be the perfect disaster.
Jeff 321, Ladies & gentlemen: All relievers pitching after Vazquez thru …(we’ll see after the game) are the inaugural members of the Give It Up Boys………and HOW!!!!!
Their mascot is a Woose.
f#$@#$ YEH MATTY!!!!! GET THE BULLPEN ON P90X
A Braves bullpen haiku:
Walk walk walk walk run
Moylan and Boyer no fun
Eight runs and now done
Braves leave town with a one game lead on Philly.
Man, Diaz looked pissed. That was an angry homer. Way to take out your frustration on the ball, Matt.
Again the 7th was bad enough but Campillo let them get one in the 8th because he walked the first guy and got behing on the 2nd
Matt Diaz just said, “Eat THAT one, ump!” Solo home run! 12-11!
April 8th, 20096:34 pm
IT’S OK GUYS WE HAVE A PROFESSIONAL COMING UP TO BAT
I have seen a lot of baseball but these eyes will not gaze on Boyer and Campillo again. These are the sorriest two chumps in the history of the Bigs, and after last year, I cannot in my stupid little brain understand how they are back. Regardless, from now on, if one of them even gets up to scratch his a&&, I will turn off the damn TV, gametracker, etc. Boycott these losers! ANYONE, a random slacker from 5P, would be better.
Diaz jacks one just so we lose by one run on the road.
AND IF WE DIDN’T LEAD OFF THE LAST INNING WITH A WALK AND GIVE UP YET ANOTHER HOMERUN, BAM IT’S TIED. ONLY FITTING WE STILL LOSE AFTER HITTING ANOTHER HOMERUN… PLEASE PROVE ME WRONG
at a boy diaz, give us our first 1 run loss of the season
It wasn’t bennett it was campillo. Bennett got 2 outs
PROFESSIONAL SWING RIGHT THURR IF I DO SAY SO MYSELF.
How anyone can blame Bobby Cox for the bullpen meltdown is beyond me. Those guys were the ones on the field, they have to produce. If anyone is to blame, it’s Frank Wren for having these guys on the roster, but even then, these guys have never been this bad. They may have given up hits before, but never walked so many in one inning. This was an anomoly. Won’t happen again for at leadt another 5-6 years to some other team. Get over it people, it’s just one game, the first for most of those relievers. They were just overthrowing and lost it. We still won the series, and that is the most important thing. Perspective people!
April 8th, 20096:35 pm
All right, Matt!! Let’s claw out a win, shall we boys?
HAHAHAHAHA !!! What a crappy pen. And where is Larry the fairy? You guys got lucky for two games. We will KYA all the rest of the way. Let me read some more of that BOOHOOHOO crap you bloggers throw up here at the least excuse. I luv this board soo much. Have a nice day you-all.
Home run to make it a one run loss. Helps it burn just a bit more. And another link to 2008.
This is what parents get for naming their sons “Blaine”.
Why not ask Vazquez to go 7 innings? Surely he wasn’t brought to Atlanta to be an ACE. He was brought to the Braves to eat innings and save our pathetic bullpen from being exposed.
Most of us thought it would take until July or so to expose them. Nope. Three games. THANK GOD Lowe went 8 innings or that game would have fallen apart as well.
One run loss.
What an ugly game. We won the series but I’m still pissed.
DA BULLPEN SUCKS
Well I must say that that was a BAD GAME!!!!!
Well, looks like we got ourselves another one o’ them one-run losses on the road. In other news, there are many ways to skin a cat.
Prediction for a Cox quote:
“Well, if you win two out of three all year, you’ll be pretty good.”
April 8th, 20096:36 pm
Guess that answers the question about how bad Anderson is hurt.
Not too bad if he could pinch-hit (and strike out, game over)
well on the bright side maybe bobby will play diaz over anderson
wow. just wow.
F that game. I hate F’n Philly.
Holy crap, what the hell is happening in that game??
See? A loss like this brings out all the tools like Phillies again.
Way to erase any and all good feelings that came from the first two games…
its best to leave the blog until the next game
everyone is just going to be unreasonable
it is what it is, a complete meltdown
2-1 against defending champs and we gave the third game away
Let’s start counting games we gave away. I’m sure they’ll add up to the games back we’ll end up at the end of the year.
Id rather have Diaz anyways…Anderson blows
Here's a thought
PLAY DIAZ FULL TIME!!!
And let Garrett rest his tender wheels.
April 8th, 20096:37 pm
Wow. That was Ugggg-Leeeee!!!
If Francoeur had drawn a walk instead of swinging at those AWFUL pitches we’d still be playing baseball.
chop chop, i promise you he will say that after the game!!!!
Once again, you think if Bobby said Hey Wren, these turkeys gotta go Wren would say, Shut up Bobby, they’re my guys?????
18 Wheels of Love
Garrett Anderson looked old this series….real old.
And remind me again, would it be THAT bad if Hanson were in the bullpen?
Ugly. Mud fence ugly. Ugly Betty is Audrey Hepburn compared to this game.
Wow!!! Diaz just had to set us up for another 1 run loss! I know its one game, but I am scared about the bullpen. We just cant seem to put together a solid bullpen since Smoltz left the closer roll.
April 8th, 20096:38 pm
1st of 39 1 run road losses
Hanson needs to be called up to the pen, same thing with Acosta, JoJo, Medlen, Parr, and Morton, clean house tonight that was awful
shocked…angry…disappointed…sad…wow…i agree with phishing with the braves…wow…
huge momentum shift already…great teams just do not lose games like this…
That was brutal. Gotta pick yourself up though.
Bullpen sucks a lot
Bobby’s blood pressure raises
Go away Boyer
That 1 run in the 8th was huge. I have to believe that when Glavine is activated Boyer will be sent down, like was previously mentioned.
Only thing worse than Boyer and Bennett would be Acosta and HoHo
Is there a limit on how many players you can release at one time? Perhaps most of the bullpen? How many players can you call up at once? The bullpen is terrible.
If Atlanta still had Kenny Powers Atlanta would have won all three.
April 8th, 20096:39 pm
Typical braves s^^t. Elite teams dont have this happen. BRAVO, bravos.
This was the definition of giving the game away.
1st loss is another 1 run loss, I forgot we won the series. We just missed making a crushing statement. Un Fin real
mets fan in atlanta
Before you get upset with Francouer, understand Lidge pitched to Diaz differently with bases empty than if there had been a runner on. Especially after the 7th inning, he gave Diaz pitches to hit and said “if you can hit it out, then do it.”
Don’t you wish one of the Braves relievers had done that at any point in the 7th before the score got close???
hopefully that will do it for the uglies for a while…regardless, i will accept 2 out of 3 (even if it should have been a sweep)
Blaine Boyer is a big tub of goo
The Blaine game…Let’s do Boyer:
boyer boyer bo boyer
bananafana fo foyer
fee fi fo moyer
CARSON, I am sorry but if you were paying attention at all, Campillo and Bennett weren’t ready yet when Boyer was making a fool out of himself. Bobby couldn’t just leave him out for one batter.
I am not saying Bobby does everything right but he should in no way be blamed for the horrendous pitching that we saw today.
Yep, that huge sucking sound is the Braves Bull Pen… or Bobby’s head..
“Why not ask Vazquez to go 7 innings? ” – N8
Because he’d thrown over 100 pitches and his team had a 6 run lead, maybe?
(I’m not gonna engage in the Cox/bullpen bashing… Cox did all he could, and the ‘pen is not that bad, but was today)
Some birthday gift for me (and McFann) that turned out to be.
April 8th, 20096:40 pm
Offense looks good. Schafer another good game. Bullpen was god-awful. Definitely NOT double pits to chesty!
I still can’t believe we let Ohman go and kept Boyer.
On the plus side, it only counts as one loss in the record book. Win the next 3 and we’ll forget all about it.
most pathetic excuse for baseball i have ever seen. oh wait, i saw this same thing last year.
I agree fin. I’ll take Acosta, JOJO, and Morton over these clowns. I don’t even want boyer in our organization, let him coach high school baseball or something. What would Jesus do?
Will never recover from that.
Ruined the entire 3 days in Philly.
It just made the first two wins meaningless. It was just an abboration to win those two. We still can’t close games properly. Wasted effort for 3 days!
jjrfoster lol, I completely agree, Kenny F%$#ng Powers
And that’s why we should’ve signed Ohman…3 lefties ain’t that bad…esp when you have 2 righties that stunk last year and stink this year
April 8th, 20096:41 pm
mets fan in atlanta is right. I would have preferred two grand slams to walking in all those runs. just… wow.
I remember when Smoltzie gave up 7 or 8 in an inning. That was bad but at least you knew he would be fine his next outing, not so with these guys
i PROMISE you we wont win the next three.
A smart manager would have had a second pitcher ALREADY WARMRD UP when he sent Boyer out there, especially a manager who has EVER seen Boyer pitch!
Have to go 2-1 this weekend. Still 2-1 so far this year…but that one hurts. Im done, time to move up. They need to sure up the bullpen soon.
OK, NOW we’ll get media attention………. for the implosion.
gave it away–gave it away……..stupid–don’t know who is more–me being a braves fan or the braves bullpen themselves
We may never get to find out if Mike Gonzalez and Rafael Soriano are any good this year.
Oh…well…that was cruddy.
Too bad Francoeur didn’t get on base, then we’d be in…extra…innings…maybe that wouldn’t be such a good thing…
That’s enough for one day for me. 2 out of 3 against the defending WS champs (on the road – none the less), is still a pretty decent start to the season.
But this is the kind of game that ruins seasons. This is the kind of game that not only shakes confidence, it ruins it and can lead to a bad stretch of baseball. On the flip side, it might just spark the Phillies on a pretty good run.
In a division that should be a 4 team race, and a wild-card race that might come down to the wire, blowing a 10-3 lead is unacceptable.
Here’s to hoping the season wasn’t lost today. Because no matter how many people say that a season isn’t won in April, I say hogwash. All 162 games count the same and teams that have legitimate sights on making noise with the big-boys DO NOT blow leads like this.
I wonder how many 7 run leads after 7 innings the 91-05 Braves blew? Not too many, I’m guessing. Don’t actually remember a single game that got out of hand like this during “the run”.
AZ Braves Fan
Wow. That was really harsh. But here’s a little perspective:
On September 11, 1949, the New York Yankees had eleven base on balls, courtesy of the Washington Senators, during the third inning setting the Major League mark for walks during an inning.
April 8th, 20096:42 pm
at least Acosta gives up homeruns. he throws hittable pitches.
How is a 12-11 Baseball game a “Bad game”???
So we lost – there it is, you people expect an undefeated season??
23 runs in a ball game is a KILLER game – Be Baseball fans and expect a loss or two…..H!
Go BRAVOS! (WE DID JUST WIN SERIES 1 and AGAINST THE PHILS!)
I will now avoid ESPN blasting this game all over the headlines, showing why we won’t be in contention.
I have to be optimistic though, heads will fly back to Atlanta, and we will pick ourselves up. Good thing tomorrow is an off day. Let’s face it, we have to pick ourselves back up!
Everyone on the blog must think it’s easy finding relievers that are dominant. Well, guess what, it’s not. You have to fork out major dollars for those guys and even then, they are usually just average or medioce. Go ahead and over react people. Some of you really need to get a life. Yes, I’m as sick about it as most of you are, but there’s no reason to act like immature morons over it. It sucked. It happened. Move on!
After Lost is over tonight I’m going to forget April 8, 2009 ever existed. I’m going to watch the game on Friday and then I going to wonder “How did they lose a game, I don’t remember watching a game this season that they lost hmmm”
I dont care what anyone says….our bullpen SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!
Campillo pitched poorly, but he can pitch to the scoreboard. If he starts the 7th, he would force the phillies to put the ball in play. Even if they kill the ball, it could go right to someone.
We talk baseball, other sports, music, movies, BBQ and whatever (except politics or religion)
