Sorry, Roman Gal – here’s what Carroll said earlier:
Here’s your Gwinnett Braves starting rotation: Tommy Hanson, Jo-Jo Reyes, James Parr, Todd Redmond and in the final slot Charlie Morton is eligible to come off the DL and Kris Medlen will get stretched out behind him.

Like I said, I think Boog is a good announcer, but can any of you imagine an outsider coming into the Mets broadcast booth an praising the other 4 NL east team, especially Atl., and not thiers? With the way some of these Mutt trolls polute this blog with hate and jealousy, I can imagine there would be a riot…not really, but.

I don’t think a 90-92 win season for us is a crazy thought. A wild card, playoff spot is almost expected in my eyes. Hopefully we can just stay competitive up until Aug. and have a huge boost with Hudson.

Question for all you pickers out there (flange1, Wayne, and even Grinch (if you’re still alive out there) that means you!):

I’m probably going to have to buy a new guitar soon (the truss in my Kramer seems to have gone kaput), and I need advice. As a lefty, I have very few choices in my price range (3-700 dollars) so my choices are basically the Epi Les Paul Standard, the Standard Strat (Mexican), a Jackson Dinky, or a narrow assortment of ESPs or one or two Ibanez’s. I’d love to get another Kramer or a Charvel, but those are almost nonexistent these days. And I play classic rock, metal, blues, and jazz (so clean tones are important to me, but I do want a good distorted tone too). If anyone has any advice for me, I’d love to hear it!

Ladies and gentleman, the Braves don’t have what it takes to compete with the Phillies or Mutts in ‘09. Braves offense is too weak, you have NO ace, and the bullpen has too many health questions. I’m not coming on here to knock you guys, these are just facts. What happens if/when Chipper comes up limping, Lowe and Vazquez become too inconsistant, and another arm falls off in that pen? WOW, talk about anxiety…..

Actually, if anyone could give me advice on perhaps fixing my old guitar as well I’d love to hear it (I’ll keep the story brief!). I have a Kramer Pacer that I’m pretty sure is an American model that just buzzes like crazy between the 4th fret and the nut. It most pronounced if it play a note/chord between the 4th and 9th frets, where I’ll play, say an Emaj7 on the 7th fret and hear an awful buzzing (and LOUD) near the nut/first few frets. I’ll take it in for new strings, adjust the action, fret dressings, the works and the noise will go away for about a week, slowly building until it is again unbearable. Several technicians have told me that they believe the truss rod is loose, broken, or disconnected. If I sit the guitar on my lap with the neck pointing toward the ceiling and the frets facing me and shake it towards/away from me, I hear a loud rattling near the 2nd fret/nut area. If I shake it side to side, I hear it as well but it is quiter. The headstock, tuning pegs, etc. are all tight, so they’re not what is rattling. The guitar guy told me that if the truss was broken/disconnected, it would be very tough to fix.

Sorry for non-baseball stuff, but I’m cheap so I want to hear all possible opinions before spending my loot.

Rob, no writers fly team charters anymore. Those days are long since passed. We have to write stories after games. Team heads to airport on getaway day within an hour of game’s end. That, among many other reasons, would make it quite difficult to follow the old arrangement of writers on team charters, which really hasn’t happened since well before I began covering major league ball 15 years ago, except in isolated cases.

I’m guessing you never listened to Bob Murphy or Ralph Kiner announce a Mets game in the 90s when the Braves were the best and the Mets the worst. Living in NYC, Boog, however, likely heard them everyday and learned how to be real with the fans when announcing a game.

“I don’t think a 90-92 win season for us is a crazy thought. A wild card, playoff spot is almost expected in my eyes.”

I don’t think a 90 win season is crazy, either, but I wouldn’t go nearly as far as saying that I expect a playoff slot, or even that I expect the Braves to finish 2nd in the division. That’s a bold thing to say when the Mets and Phillies are in the same division. I expect the Braves to be competitive, and I think they’ll have a shot at any of the top 3 slots if there’s a breakout year for a guy or two.

AntorPhilyFan

Braveheart, no. I never listened to those two, but it’s different for me because we aren’t the worst in the division, while the Mets were back then. Personally, if the Braves were as bad as Mets in the 90’s, it just doesn’t matter as much to me. Sorry Braveheart, but that’s how I feel.

Just like in your earlier post, you said Boog would look phony if he came across as a Braves “homer”. Well he seeems like, to me, that he goes out of his way to be the complete opposite, which makes him just as phony. Whether I sound immature or not, I just don’t like him that much, especially with his screechy voice.

Shamus, I don’t know if the frets have ever been replaced. I’m not a good enough guitar tech aficionado to know if there is a significant amount of wear. The last time I took it in the tech told me the next was slightly twisted, and he took off the neck but said he was unable to tell if the truss was disconnected or broken in the middle. The redid the action and did a fret dressing, etc. and it sounded great for a day or two, and then the buzz began to build up bit by bit over the next few days, and within a week and a half it was too much again.

Shamus, I’m sorry, I’m reading my old post and I said a fret dressing was done. It was not. It was just a polishing/clean up type deal. My bad. I went and looked and there isn’t much wear. Some of the higher frets are flattened a bit due to bending, but nothing serious. No major grooves or anything. Like I said, I don’t know how the frets on a 20 year old guitar are supposed to like, but they look all right to me, and neither the luthier I took the guitar to nor my teacher found anything particularly distressing about them. I’m really new to the whole guitar maintenance thing (I’ve only been playing a couple of years), so forgive me if my anwers sound novice.
