Boy – MSU trying their best to screw up an insurmountable lead.
April 4th, 20098:27 pm
oh my that was a monster dunk by uconn
April 4th, 20098:29 pm
too little too late however…looks like Michigan State has this game (famous last words…)
April 4th, 20098:30 pm
Sorry, Roman Gal – here’s what Carroll said earlier:
Here’s your Gwinnett Braves starting rotation: Tommy Hanson, Jo-Jo Reyes, James Parr, Todd Redmond and in the final slot Charlie Morton is eligible to come off the DL and Kris Medlen will get stretched out behind him.
April 4th, 20098:31 pm
cabravesfan – I think you’re right.

Hey Carroll, I found a great BBQ place on Oak Island last summer, let me know if you plan to vacation on Holden Beach again this year….
April 4th, 20098:33 pm
not that it matters anymore but does it seem like the refs have let Uconn’s point gaurd wlak up and down the court all night?
April 4th, 20098:35 pm
Good job, Brother Izzo!
April 4th, 20098:41 pm
Like I said, I think Boog is a good announcer, but can any of you imagine an outsider coming into the Mets broadcast booth an praising the other 4 NL east team, especially Atl., and not thiers? With the way some of these Mutt trolls polute this blog with hate and jealousy, I can imagine there would be a riot…not really, but.
I don’t think a 90-92 win season for us is a crazy thought. A wild card, playoff spot is almost expected in my eyes. Hopefully we can just stay competitive up until Aug. and have a huge boost with Hudson.

Question for all you pickers out there (flange1, Wayne, and even Grinch (if you’re still alive out there) that means you!):
I’m probably going to have to buy a new guitar soon (the truss in my Kramer seems to have gone kaput), and I need advice. As a lefty, I have very few choices in my price range (3-700 dollars) so my choices are basically the Epi Les Paul Standard, the Standard Strat (Mexican), a Jackson Dinky, or a narrow assortment of ESPs or one or two Ibanez’s. I’d love to get another Kramer or a Charvel, but those are almost nonexistent these days. And I play classic rock, metal, blues, and jazz (so clean tones are important to me, but I do want a good distorted tone too). If anyone has any advice for me, I’d love to hear it!

April 4th, 20098:50 pm
DOB, I love how you take over the comments for carrol’s blog session. Right in the middle of her comments, I might add (see page 3). How exactly does it feel to be an ostentatious prick?
April 4th, 20098:52 pm
Ladies and gentleman, the Braves don’t have what it takes to compete with the Phillies or Mutts in ‘09. Braves offense is too weak, you have NO ace, and the bullpen has too many health questions. I’m not coming on here to knock you guys, these are just facts. What happens if/when Chipper comes up limping, Lowe and Vazquez become too inconsistant, and another arm falls off in that pen? WOW, talk about anxiety…..
April 4th, 20098:53 pm
Medusa, er Melissa, where your Ho azz be tonight? You gotz any mo’ racists observatons? I need me one mo’ stupid redneck chick to offers to mys customers. What you say?
April 4th, 20098:55 pm
I believe Kurt Russell starred with Freddie Mac in Son Of Flubber. Could be wrong, but in all sincerity, who cares… lol
April 4th, 20098:56 pm
Actually, if anyone could give me advice on perhaps fixing my old guitar as well I’d love to hear it (I’ll keep the story brief!). I have a Kramer Pacer that I’m pretty sure is an American model that just buzzes like crazy between the 4th fret and the nut. It most pronounced if it play a note/chord between the 4th and 9th frets, where I’ll play, say an Emaj7 on the 7th fret and hear an awful buzzing (and LOUD) near the nut/first few frets. I’ll take it in for new strings, adjust the action, fret dressings, the works and the noise will go away for about a week, slowly building until it is again unbearable. Several technicians have told me that they believe the truss rod is loose, broken, or disconnected. If I sit the guitar on my lap with the neck pointing toward the ceiling and the frets facing me and shake it towards/away from me, I hear a loud rattling near the 2nd fret/nut area. If I shake it side to side, I hear it as well but it is quiter. The headstock, tuning pegs, etc. are all tight, so they’re not what is rattling. The guitar guy told me that if the truss was broken/disconnected, it would be very tough to fix.
Sorry for non-baseball stuff, but I’m cheap so I want to hear all possible opinions before spending my loot.
April 4th, 20098:57 pm
At least we ain’t in Philly, NO MATTER WHAT HAPPENS… Thank the Laaaawdd fer that!
April 4th, 20099:02 pm
Rob, no writers fly team charters anymore. Those days are long since passed. We have to write stories after games. Team heads to airport on getaway day within an hour of game’s end. That, among many other reasons, would make it quite difficult to follow the old arrangement of writers on team charters, which really hasn’t happened since well before I began covering major league ball 15 years ago, except in isolated cases.
April 4th, 20099:05 pm
Is there any visible fret wear, and have the frets ever been replaced?
April 4th, 20099:07 pm
Like I said, I think Boog is a good announcer, but can any of you imagine an outsider coming into the Mets broadcast booth an praising the other 4 NL east team, especially Atl., and not thiers? (TNBrian)
I’m guessing you never listened to Bob Murphy or Ralph Kiner announce a Mets game in the 90s when the Braves were the best and the Mets the worst. Living in NYC, Boog, however, likely heard them everyday and learned how to be real with the fans when announcing a game.
April 4th, 20099:13 pm
“I don’t think a 90-92 win season for us is a crazy thought. A wild card, playoff spot is almost expected in my eyes.”
I don’t think a 90 win season is crazy, either, but I wouldn’t go nearly as far as saying that I expect a playoff slot, or even that I expect the Braves to finish 2nd in the division. That’s a bold thing to say when the Mets and Phillies are in the same division. I expect the Braves to be competitive, and I think they’ll have a shot at any of the top 3 slots if there’s a breakout year for a guy or two.
April 4th, 20099:14 pm
Braveheart, no. I never listened to those two, but it’s different for me because we aren’t the worst in the division, while the Mets were back then. Personally, if the Braves were as bad as Mets in the 90’s, it just doesn’t matter as much to me. Sorry Braveheart, but that’s how I feel.
Just like in your earlier post, you said Boog would look phony if he came across as a Braves “homer”. Well he seeems like, to me, that he goes out of his way to be the complete opposite, which makes him just as phony. Whether I sound immature or not, I just don’t like him that much, especially with his screechy voice.
April 4th, 20099:20 pm
John Sterling is still Yankee’s announcer. Pretty unbelievable; great, great, guy, but voice like fingernails on chalkboard to any Redneck/Hillbilly…
April 4th, 20099:26 pm
Dunno, Yankees fans, considering they’re actual Yankees, quite possibly enjoy Sterling’s Yankeeish dialect and unique brand of mega-idio-idiocy…
Truly nice guy though…
April 4th, 20099:27 pm
I’m here !
Look for a used left-handed American Tele. I’m sure you can find one for around 6-700 dollars. I bought my American Tele used in 2004 for 600 (it was right-handed) and I can’t put it down. You can’t go wrong with an American Tele.

April 4th, 20099:33 pm
What’s up ?!
April 4th, 20099:35 pm
For those who have MLB 09 The Show, what batting stance have you given Jordan Schafer?
no. I never listened to those two, but it’s different for me because we aren’t the worst in the division, while the Mets were back then. Personally, if the Braves were as bad as Mets in the 90’s, it just doesn’t matter as much to me. Sorry Braveheart, but that’s how I feel…….. .AntorPhilyFan
Fine, just for you, the folks at Fox are gonna bring back Rathbun & Paciorek. Your broadcast would be chock full of enthusiastic blind homerism, just the way you like it.
April 4th, 20099:42 pm
still a prick… do you only answer questions that revolve around the braves and band you deem great?
April 4th, 20099:50 pm
Shamus, I don’t know if the frets have ever been replaced. I’m not a good enough guitar tech aficionado to know if there is a significant amount of wear. The last time I took it in the tech told me the next was slightly twisted, and he took off the neck but said he was unable to tell if the truss was disconnected or broken in the middle. The redid the action and did a fret dressing, etc. and it sounded great for a day or two, and then the buzz began to build up bit by bit over the next few days, and within a week and a half it was too much again.
April 4th, 20099:52 pm
Baveheart…I’ve met Joe the “Boog” and I can tell you that, while a smart guy, he’s also a phony! You poor Braves fans have to endure him and Joe the “HOMER” Simpson for another year long adventure of FAILURE! Just don’t like him as a person, but as a smart, MLB historian…sure.
April 4th, 20099:53 pm
I bought the guitar off ebay for 70 bucks about a year and a half ago so I don’t know anything about its history. It has been awesome until about the last month or two, and now it’s just a disaster.

Carolina looking better than they did a year ago.
April 4th, 200910:00 pm
another year long adventure of FAILURE Antor
Last year was the first year you guys won a WS in 28 years. The Phillies also made the playoffs in ‘83, ‘93, and ‘07. You want to talk about the Braves’ failures? I know the Phillies won it last year, but give them time – they’ll return to their natural ways. Philly has written the book on failure.
April 4th, 200910:01 pm
Has anyone here ever taken a B-12 supplement? I got mine from the pharmacy, not Miguel Tejada, but man…my toilet looks like highlighter fluid now! If you put Lew’s blacklight to it, you’d go blind.
Very good post on the announcers. I loved Pete and was very sorry that he retired. I’m glad Don is back. He talks a little too much for my taste but he is pretty knowledgeable about pitching.

April 4th, 200910:13 pm
Thrillhouse-It’s normal or vitamin B supplements to do that. Nothing wrong with it and it should help your nerve function..
April 4th, 200910:14 pm
Thrillhouse-You might want to avoid Niacin supplements though. It’s rare but they can cause retinal bleeding. You don’t even need that.
April 4th, 200910:15 pm
wow- not even midnight in the south and we are already talking about
B-12, yellow water and Flubber…thank god tomorrow’s a late game:)
April 4th, 200910:16 pm
cabravesfan-You’re right-maybe I should get into the mood, turn on that black light and listen to In A Gadda Da Vida. Far out.
April 4th, 200910:29 pm
Thanks for the heads up, Lew. cabravesfan – as you mentioned, tonight’s just a warm-up.
April 4th, 200910:31 pm
Shamus, I’m sorry, I’m reading my old post and I said a fret dressing was done. It was not. It was just a polishing/clean up type deal. My bad. I went and looked and there isn’t much wear. Some of the higher frets are flattened a bit due to bending, but nothing serious. No major grooves or anything. Like I said, I don’t know how the frets on a 20 year old guitar are supposed to like, but they look all right to me, and neither the luthier I took the guitar to nor my teacher found anything particularly distressing about them. I’m really new to the whole guitar maintenance thing (I’ve only been playing a couple of years), so forgive me if my anwers sound novice.
April 4th, 200910:33 pm
But the buzzing is behind the fretted (like I said, I’ll play a chord on the 7th fr. and hear the nut and neck near the first few frets rattle/buzz)…I’m not hearing too much fret buzz.
April 4th, 200910:46 pm
You may be able to get a neck to fit your Kramer from Warmoth, but it really depends on how much you like the guitar because it could cost you as much as a used Strat or Tele.
April 4th, 200910:47 pm
“retinal bleeding?” really Lew? So did not need that image:)
Ah, late night on the blog…sometimes living on the west coast is not a good thing!
April 4th, 200910:48 pm
and it really isn’t that late yet…I’m concerned
April 4th, 200910:51 pm
Thanks Couch Tater. Is it possible to take the Kramer headstock and put it on a new neck?
April 4th, 200910:54 pm
“retinal bleeding?” – he’s referring to one’s retina – in the eye. It does sound disgusting though.
Rob from SC
April 4th, 200910:55 pm
I am a junior at the University of South Carolina. I am currently a broadcast major, but I am entertaining the switch to print. I was wondering if I could e-mail you for advice. Thanks
April 4th, 200910:59 pm
The headstock and neck should be one piece. So that would be a negatatory.
April 4th, 200911:00 pm
Didn’t realize how many college kids posted regularly on this blog – chemistry/math conversation from a few days ago revealed many undergrads, and now Rob for SC talking about being a broadcast major – I figured most of you guys were older.
bah, proofreading… Rob from SC, sorry I messed up your handle.
April 4th, 200911:01 pm
Yeah, that sounds about right. I’m not sure I’d want to replace the entire neck…any suggestions on a new instrument man?
April 4th, 200911:13 pm
how is that better?:)
Obviously I have not had enough to drink yet…brain is clearly not working right
April 4th, 200911:14 pm
not all of us are college kids- just reliving bad memories
I sure hope that Michigan State does a little better against the Heels. The 3-point shooting in the last two games has absolutely killed Oklahoma and Villanova. Absolutely awful, man. I hate the Heels.
April 4th, 200911:15 pm
and Nova has completely fallen apart tonight…or is carolina really that good?
April 4th, 200911:19 pm
Nova has actually played pretty well. They haven’t thrown the game away by any stretch of the imagination. UNC has just been that good. I like Tom Izzo’s chances to win the title game, though. Obviously Carolina has a better chance, but I think Michigan State is going to make it very interesting with their disciplined play.
April 4th, 200911:24 pm
Thrillhouse, YES! I know exactly what you’re talking about. It’s like neon pee that has the smell of the vitamin when it comes out, right? You’re alright man…that’s normal.
April 4th, 200911:25 pm
I’m partial to Fender, but I grew up with them. I would suggest you go to a good dealer and play as many Guitars as you can. Each guitar is different, even within the same brand and model. You will know when a guitar fits you. A good dealer will help you make the correct purchase. The only thing I do right-handed is play the guitar, so I understand the limitations on selection.
April 4th, 200911:26 pm
Rob from SC….DOB’s first bit of advice would be to get out of that stinkhole Columbia.
April 4th, 200911:30 pm
20 hours, 30 minutes … see y’all tomorrow night.
Go-time … nearly here. The offseason … finished. Thank goodness.
The Scribe abides.

North Korea launches a rocket despite warnings from other nations! Holy SH-! These mother fu- better not start anything with the U.S. or Obama will lecture them to death. But seriously, why do countries do this? Has to be the devils work.
April 4th, 200911:33 pm
I’d venture to say that a team with 22 missed threes, few free throw attempts, and a 32.5% overall FG percentage hasn’t played pretty well. Not to take anything away from the Heels, but if they had hit more free throws tonight, they would be blowing Villanova out.
April 4th, 200911:41 pm
TnBrian, all countries with developing nuclear and space programs launch rockets. It’s not that big of a deal.

Runnin, it is when it’s N.Korea
April 5th, 200912:08 am
Braveheart, great post at 7:39. I enjoy listening to Joe & Boog, partly due to the fact that I have to watch the Braves on ExtraInnings. If y’all had to hear some of the terrible broadcasters I’ve been stuck with when we get the opponent’s feed, you’d appreciate our guys more. (BH, stop by Stuffville & say hi sometime, OK?)
It all relative. Living in Japan I’m well aware of who it is, just not that concerned.
But actually TnBrian, you’re just like N.Korea, firing an unwanted and prohibited rocket of politics on the Braves blog. If you’re such a stickler for rules, why don’t you follow them yourself?
April 5th, 200912:12 am
Here is another link you may find useful.

any early predictions on tomorrows game?
Runnin I would like to be nice about it, but the simple truth is that you’re historically and politically ignorant.
April 5th, 200912:17 am
Well, time for bed. Good night and may God bless you all.
April 5th, 200912:19 am
Bad memories huh? I think I have a bad memory because of college, but thats another story.
Why don’t you give Jesus a call and see if N. Korea is in cahoots with the devil? I think you’re onto something there, nice detective work bro.

April 5th, 200912:31 am
Runnin, what the hell is political about some nuts firing rockets? Man that’s damn near a threat to innocent people when you’re talking N.Korea’s leader…he most definitely is the devil!
April 5th, 200912:34 am
Me too! Aaron, Mathews, Murphy, Niekro, Spahn, Maddux- just looks right
April 5th, 200912:35 am
Saturday, have you ever read Mr. O’Brien? I used to think he was an excellent blogger, a guy who, “Did it right.” Then I realized his blog entries/comments were only a means to spread his own agenda. It is as obvious as CNN is liberal and maybe you’ll realize that, too. Look at the whole Griffey incident that he blew up. Now sure, one beat writer probably isn’t the reason the whole thing went up in the Braves’ faces but it surely was a part of it and he wouldn’t even take any blame. Go back and look through the comments. Tell me it doesn’t remind you of you in your teenage years trying to talk yourself out of trouble when you knew you screwed up. The guy is an egomaniac and everyone here just feeds into his vanity.
April 5th, 200912:38 am
Well well well…us Braves fans may as well have ZERO hope about our guys this year according to Kevin Kennedy, ALL of ESPN, Boog, and just about every signle ‘09 MLB predition magazine. JEEEZ…Kennedy didn’t even mention Atl. when predicting the NL east in the fox sports video. They all seem to have a hard on about Santana/Putz/K-Rod/Beltran, Utley/Howard/Lidge.

the fritz. my dog is old. fritz, wants one more season.
April 5th, 20091:01 am
What exactly did Boog say?
April 5th, 20091:02 am
Boog said that he’s a Mets troll and that he loves the Phillies and that he loves the Marlins and that he’d love the Nats if he knew them better and that the Braves would be lucky to win 40 games.
April 5th, 20091:04 am
bub, fritz the dog. i have had him for close to 12 years.
it is gonna hurt.
Look at the whole Griffey incident that he blew up…Tell me it doesn’t remind you of you in your teenage years trying to talk yourself out of trouble when you knew you screwed up. The guy is an egomaniac and everyone here just feeds into his vanity. tellin it like it is
I don’t follow your logic. People who post on this blog are a bunch of co-k gobblers for DOB’s ego because of situations like what went down with Griffey? What exactly are you trying to convey because I don’t see how the two topics relate at all.
DOB’s bias is like CNN’s liberal slant? What has that got to do with Griffey situation or DOB’s posts in general?
If you are going to be inflammatory, you might want to write out a better argument before you wonk your way over to your computer and slap your BS down into a text box.
April 5th, 20091:13 am
fritz, sits here with my cat billy white shoes. this dog used to run miles with me.

We should all be quite happy with what JF has shown us so far in ST. Let us all remember that breaking a bad habit – be it baseball, golf, bowling, or alcohol – no matter – is difficult. When we are under stress, we tend to revert to the old self and more often than not suffer the consequences. I hope the fans in Atlanta pull for this guy to stay ‘on the wagon’ and be the star his promise holds. Think about that before you decide to fling any mud.
