Something that you didn’t see in the Wellman blowup was when some of the players were standing around, Joey Devine comes out and walks by the ump and says something to him, never breaking stride, and the ump tossed him out. He kept on walking straight across the field to the clubhouse door in the outfield.
We made the drive down from atl this morning without tix but some came available at the box office (its a sellout). Then a guy swaps his behind the Yankee dugout for ours.
DOB, do you sit in that big open space at the top behind home?
Bobby’s Cox: yes, you missed the news, posted in yesterday blog and in today’s Braves notebook online. They pushed Garret back at day to Sunday, Bobby announced that a few days ago. Didn’t say why, just that the docs and him and trainers all agreed to aim for Sunday.
The Yankees have a real tough lineup. Could you imagine how are they going to pitch them when A-rod gets back from his injury. And If posada and Matsui are healthy watch out.
but correct me if I’m wrong, aren’t the PECOTA and CHONES projections based on some type of computer modeling and therefore would be more objective than a bunch of fans? Not saying I’m buying what they’re selling, just that the figure of 4.93, though unlikely to be spot on, would represent that the available data projected out indicates the Braves should have a much better than average offense? Hale
nope you are right about the modeling, but that is really the point that I’m trying to make. There are so many variables in baseball that no computer model will ever get it right. It’s like the Pythagorian Theorem re wins, it’s a place to start and it’s interesting to see what the theories say, but it’s strictly “ballpark” type numbers and they can be completely wrong. In fact if you could find someone to bet with you could make a fortune by simply betting that each individual prediction by every system is wrong.
Baseball is about the most complicated array of variables in any sport. That’s why the winning percentage of even the best teams is so relatively low. Prediction will always be a hit ‘n miss result, mostly miss.
Don’t ignore them, just don’t put any real trust in them either
And when you read that PECOTA says this or CHONE says that remember how far apart they were on Prado’s predicted stats.
DISCLAIMER : The above will be considered heresy by many folks and might get you burned at the stake….or at least roasted on a blog.
NOT worried about JJ, he’ll be even BETTER than last year. Was off JUST enough today to get SMACKED though. I AM worried about my TIGERS today at 440p.
Im not really happy with this team…this could be what we are gonna face this season…One infield error opens the game 4 to 0 …Remember our pitchers depend on a real solid infield besides kotchman, our 2B SS and 3B are Ok but are no gold glovers….they will make a few errors here and there…
After that we have an anemic offense…they cannot even score on Brett “6.00era” Tomko …and its sad, that if Mac or Chip goes down…our offense suddenly seems like the one the Pirates have, even worse…
And on top of that Wren sees the loogy spot perfect with Logan and O’F thats just blind on the part of our GM
Agreed, no reason at all to worry about Jurrjens. Long as he’s healthy, he’s very likely to have a good season (and no reason to think he’s not healthy)
“Boog doesn’t know who Chet Atkins is. I feel old.” Runnin, I’ve actually got that “Chet Atkins Picks on the Beatles” (I think that’s the title) LP that Joe referenced … it was in my home from as early as I remember. Don’t know if my older brother or parents were “into it.” Anyway, I’ve got the collection now, and there it sits. Have to pull it out sometime… the guy was an absolute master.
mbatl, I’ve got a Chet Picks on the Hits that’s pretty good, a little over-produced for my tastes. I only want to hear Chet! Boog laughed and I think he believed Joe was pulling his leg about Chet playing Yesterday. LOL
This McCann injury, even if it’s just a contusion, is still bad knowing you need him out there as much as possible this close to the season. This can get ugly if it nags him for awhile.
According to Soriano he WILL be ready for Opening Day….and with Ridgway released, it is starting to come into focus. DOB also believes that Schafer is currently the way the Braves are leaning in the CF race. Brings us to this:
Rotation:
1) Lowe
2) Vaz
3) JJ
4) Kawakami
5) Glavine (Will be on DL when Spring Training Breaks – Thus 26 on the roster)
Starters:
6) J. Schafer (L)
7) Esco (R) Chipper (S)
9) B. Mac (L)
10) Frenchy (R)
11) G. Anderson(L)
12) Kotchman (L)
13) KJ (L)
TnBrian – As for McCann, that’s why you need to get that fine hitting young man out from behind the plate (think Biggio) or become less reliant on his offense.
