Whats going on with the game, besides Bobby dropping the S-bomb?
March 28th, 20092:06 pm
Dob, your Kansas boys will always have a place in my heart for the beatdown they put on Carolina and Roy! that was a great night.
March 28th, 20092:08 pm
No wonder there’s no comments on that girl’s blog site — it’s a pain to sign up. Who’s gonna go through all that? Oh, well, we had good intentions.
N Nine (eta8)
March 28th, 20092:10 pm
The chills..Kent Mercker’s no hitter called by SKIP
March 28th, 20092:13 pm
Did I miss the news on Garret? Thought he was supposed to be back today (Saturday)?
Walter Sobchack is the man…..”OVER THE LINE!!!”
Something that you didn’t see in the Wellman blowup was when some of the players were standing around, Joey Devine comes out and walks by the ump and says something to him, never breaking stride, and the ump tossed him out. He kept on walking straight across the field to the clubhouse door in the outfield.
March 28th, 20092:14 pm
JJ’s settled down a bit.
bf braves fan
March 28th, 20092:16 pm
Garret goes tomm.
March 28th, 20092:17 pm
Wow what an eventful start in this game.
We made the drive down from atl this morning without tix but some came available at the box office (its a sellout). Then a guy swaps his behind the Yankee dugout for ours.
DOB, do you sit in that big open space at the top behind home?
Bobby’s Cox, he is starting tomorrow.
March 28th, 20092:18 pm
A bomb hit by the Sellout Tex…
McCANN: Contusion to his right ring finger, no x-rays taken, he’s day to day.
Teixeira CRUSHED that ball, way over right-center wall.
Tex hit a bomb
They pushed Garret back to sunday, haven’t heard any reason.
Thanks bf and Tomas.
March 28th, 20092:19 pm
What a huge relief for Mac. Let’s just hope this doesn’t do what his pinkie injury did for his swing.
March 28th, 20092:20 pm
AWWW “SHOOT!” Tex!
March 28th, 20092:21 pm
And CANO crushes one to left field
Bad day for JJ
wind MUST be dying down
March 28th, 20092:22 pm
JJ needs to go back to bed and start over
I hope this will make Brian put his hand behind his back when the ball is coming in.
JJ is just getting lit up. Awful. Really hope this is just a speed bump.
JJ getting hammered
What a relief about McCann.
JJ starting the 2nd year slump already?
Man Double J is getting Slapped! Even though the jet stream blew that last homer out…
March 28th, 20092:23 pm
yea that got out to left in a hurry
Bobby’s Cox: yes, you missed the news, posted in yesterday blog and in today’s Braves notebook online. They pushed Garret back at day to Sunday, Bobby announced that a few days ago. Didn’t say why, just that the docs and him and trainers all agreed to aim for Sunday.
Everyone Check this out
Is there anyone other than me that does not like the New Yankee Stadium?
March 28th, 20092:24 pm
tyyosh: yes, I sit in that big open space. it’s called the pressbox.
March 28th, 20092:25 pm
Nice Double Play…they have saved Double J today…
then dp to get out of that mess
March 28th, 20092:26 pm
The Yankees have a real tough lineup. Could you imagine how are they going to pitch them when A-rod gets back from his injury. And If posada and Matsui are healthy watch out.
March 28th, 20092:28 pm
Yankees Defense is killing Us!
dogsbrekky - UNC rocks !
My mlb.tv 400k player sucks rotten egg gas !
Prado looks good at 2nd
We are not hitting the real MLB pitchers lately !
March 28th, 20092:29 pm
They’re robbed the Braves of several hits with outstanding defense.
Dont make stupid comments like yankees defense is killing us…tell us what happened….please.
but correct me if I’m wrong, aren’t the PECOTA and CHONES projections based on some type of computer modeling and therefore would be more objective than a bunch of fans? Not saying I’m buying what they’re selling, just that the figure of 4.93, though unlikely to be spot on, would represent that the available data projected out indicates the Braves should have a much better than average offense? Hale
nope you are right about the modeling, but that is really the point that I’m trying to make. There are so many variables in baseball that no computer model will ever get it right. It’s like the Pythagorian Theorem re wins, it’s a place to start and it’s interesting to see what the theories say, but it’s strictly “ballpark” type numbers and they can be completely wrong. In fact if you could find someone to bet with you could make a fortune by simply betting that each individual prediction by every system is wrong.
Baseball is about the most complicated array of variables in any sport. That’s why the winning percentage of even the best teams is so relatively low. Prediction will always be a hit ‘n miss result, mostly miss.
Don’t ignore them, just don’t put any real trust in them either
And when you read that PECOTA says this or CHONE says that remember how far apart they were on Prado’s predicted stats.
DISCLAIMER : The above will be considered heresy by many folks and might get you burned at the stake….or at least roasted on a blog.
March 28th, 20092:31 pm
NOT worried about JJ, he’ll be even BETTER than last year. Was off JUST enough today to get SMACKED though. I AM worried about my TIGERS today at 440p.
Im not really happy with this team…this could be what we are gonna face this season…One infield error opens the game 4 to 0 …Remember our pitchers depend on a real solid infield besides kotchman, our 2B SS and 3B are Ok but are no gold glovers….they will make a few errors here and there…
After that we have an anemic offense…they cannot even score on Brett “6.00era” Tomko …and its sad, that if Mac or Chip goes down…our offense suddenly seems like the one the Pirates have, even worse…
And on top of that Wren sees the loogy spot perfect with Logan and O’F thats just blind on the part of our GM
March 28th, 20092:32 pm
Schafer another single, another multi-hit game
March 28th, 20092:33 pm
JJ singles then jordan hits a single to right on a curveball
and Schafer hits again
Escobar hit a long fly to left that got held by the wind short of the track, sac fly. Braves trail 6-1
March 28th, 20092:34 pm
I’d like to see a SB here.
March 28th, 20092:35 pm
DOB thats a little misleading Jordans first hit was a can of corn to center till the wind blew it back to the infield for a 100 ft double
March 28th, 20092:37 pm
Agreed, no reason at all to worry about Jurrjens. Long as he’s healthy, he’s very likely to have a good season (and no reason to think he’s not healthy)
March 28th, 20092:38 pm
a hits a hit thats what it is in the scorebook
March 28th, 20092:39 pm
Bf brave fan – a hits a hit. Not having McCann is killing us. Although, Boscan is clutch
Call me obtuse then.
Every Braves fan I’ve talked to hasn’t given a rip about the Glavine signing.
Boog doesn’t know who Chet Atkins is. I feel old.
March 28th, 20092:40 pm
bf I played for that hit, played the conditions to perfection
I am the CF for the Braves
bf braves fan,
Which is still a hit and looks like a line drive in the box score. I’d much rather be lucky than good.
March 28th, 20092:41 pm
Umm, Umm – Schafer’s got options.
DOB is Kelly just getting a day off. I hope nobody else gets that mysterious voodoo illness going on down there
March 28th, 20092:43 pm
Umm, Umm – You know, we bring Schafer up and everyone’s gotta pay .25 cents extra per beer in 2012 instead of 2013.
March 28th, 20092:44 pm
OK guys a solid hit for Jordan on that first AB. I’m sure DOB was just committing on the “body” of work anyways
March 28th, 20092:45 pm
or commenting, I’m old and the keys are a blur lol
March 28th, 20092:46 pm
Umm, Umm – Schafer fails 60% of the time.
March 28th, 20092:48 pm
“Boog doesn’t know who Chet Atkins is. I feel old.” Runnin, I’ve actually got that “Chet Atkins Picks on the Beatles” (I think that’s the title) LP that Joe referenced … it was in my home from as early as I remember. Don’t know if my older brother or parents were “into it.” Anyway, I’ve got the collection now, and there it sits. Have to pull it out sometime… the guy was an absolute master.
I have had that upper respiratory CRAP for a MONTH now…still worked, but felt like…well as Bobby would say…
ABOUT over it now, thankfully!
March 28th, 20092:55 pm
mbatl, I’ve got a Chet Picks on the Hits that’s pretty good, a little over-produced for my tastes. I only want to hear Chet! Boog laughed and I think he believed Joe was pulling his leg about Chet playing Yesterday. LOL
March 28th, 20092:56 pm
Boog definitely isn’t a picker.
March 28th, 20092:57 pm
March 28th, 20092:59 pm
Hitting 91…I don’t think we’ll see 94 until opening day.
March 28th, 20093:01 pm
Epinephrine – seeing as I’m about the only one who enjoyed the WBC, that was definitely some deadpan
March 28th, 20093:02 pm
It was good sarcasm.
Gonzo looking sharp.
March 28th, 20093:03 pm
I don’t need to see anything more from Gonzo until opening day. He is ready to go.
Gonzo will be just fine this season
March 28th, 20093:04 pm
Seeing as our other lefty relievers are laying some big eggs, I wouldn’t mind seeing Gonzo go 2-3 innings a game.
March 28th, 20093:05 pm
This McCann injury, even if it’s just a contusion, is still bad knowing you need him out there as much as possible this close to the season. This can get ugly if it nags him for awhile.
March 28th, 20093:07 pm
Gonzo has just looked horrible so far. Lucky to get out of that inning alive.
1 inning per outing will be fine. you don’t want your closer pitching 3 innings. he’d be done for 3 days or more.
Any News On How Tim Hudson is coming along, will be be back before September…?
March 28th, 20093:08 pm
According to Soriano he WILL be ready for Opening Day….and with Ridgway released, it is starting to come into focus. DOB also believes that Schafer is currently the way the Braves are leaning in the CF race. Brings us to this:
5) Glavine (Will be on DL when Spring Training Breaks – Thus 26 on the roster)
6) J. Schafer (L)
7) Esco (R)
9) B. Mac (L)
10) Frenchy (R)
11) G. Anderson(L)
12) Kotchman (L)
13) KJ (L)
19) Gonzalez (Closer)
26) Campillo (Long Relief)
J. Anderson – Waivers or Traded
Carlyle – Waivers or Traded
Bennett – Waivers or Traded
Blanco – AAA
B.Jones – AAA
Hanson – AAA – Until June or Injury
March 28th, 20093:10 pm
That indeed was the shuttle.
The way Andrews has that surgery down, I wouldn’t be surprised to see Hudson back by Aug 1.
March 28th, 20093:11 pm
Again my sarcasm goes unappreciated. I at least thought this one was more obvious.
You’d think with this blog absolutely dripping with deadpan sarcasm it would be understood by now.
That was pretty cool. Sounded like a bomb.
So was Gonzo looking sharp or horrible and lucky?
Rob from SC
March 28th, 20093:12 pm
Buddy Carlyle is in the pen. Jorge Campillo will not be
March 28th, 20093:13 pm
Jim somewhere in between
Space shuttle just sonic boomed Dark Star.
March 28th, 20093:14 pm
Campillo is must better than Buddy.
It disrupts major atmosphere. You can feel it.
March 28th, 20093:15 pm
Gonzo was looking more lucky than sharp.
boone hitting 93-94
Dumb question about the shuttle, can it take off like a normal plane ?
TnBrian – As for McCann, that’s why you need to get that fine hitting young man out from behind the plate (think Biggio) or become less reliant on his offense. By the end of the season catchers are so knicked up, weathered, and playing with hurting hands it’s almost impossible to produce at the highest level. McCann is a young guy so it hasn’t manifested itself yet but as time goes on…..
March 28th, 20093:16 pm
or more sharp than lucky
Boscan, now there is a throw
March 28th, 20093:17 pm
Haven’t you guys heard? The Yanks charter the space shuttle now. Just part of their ambience.
MFin04__ Gonzo had 2 bad outings. I wouldn’t use the word horrible, unless you solely judge someone by his ERA that has very little innings pitched. Gonzo will be fine…
March 28th, 20093:18 pm
Boone looked more pretty good than not so hot
OH here comes Anders on cue. Something happens to the Braves and he is here to manifest the problem.
March 28th, 20093:19 pm
I would agree with Buddy for his versatility….but Campillo has proven himself over Buddy in the spot start/long relief role. DOB what are your thoughts on the 25 man posted???
