Screwball rocks, but does anyone throw one these days? I can’t think of a pitcher that does. It’s a pretty rough pitch on the arm.
Still, I have to say that a great knuckleball is still the coolest pitch around. I used to love watching Joe and Phil Niekro carve up batters back when they had the fastball to keep you honest.
For sheer amazement, Bert Blyleven’s curve was about the most incredible thing I’ve seen. What a buzzsaw!

Jeff321: “Am I suppose to forget all the terrible pitching he did last year? Who cares if he was good until fatigue set in? Its all about my last memories.”
So, what you’re saying is that you don’t actually THINK when it comes to baseball analysis and evaluation of players’ performance, you simply FEEL it.

Gorkys I’m with you, how can a hot dog or a coke inside the stadium be 3 or 4 times as much as one outside the stadium. Or how can one 20 oz beer inside the stadium cost almost as much as a 12-pack outside the stadium. I have never understood how they get away with it (Six Flags and other places like that do the same thing), seems to me like price gauging.

Blawgdawg – I’m with you on the price gouging. Shameful. Do the Braves let you bring stuff into the park? The Mets were very relaxed about that. You could bring any food and drinks as long as it wasn’t a glass bottle or alcohol. Makes a huge difference in the price of the experience. Plus the food at the park is usually pretty bad. I’d bring a chicken cutlet hero and some other stuff and just buy some beer at the game. I’m hoping the new park has the same rules – I haven’t looked into yet though.

Anders I’m pretty sure you can bring like bottled water and small snacks in, just can’t bring like a cooler and stuff in. I remember when Turner Field first opened, they banned any outside refreshments. People went BESERK, and they changed that policy several weeks into the season that year.
I miss the good ole Fulton County Stadium days. You’d go to the game and sit where you wanted to (none of the ushers checking tickets and stuff like they do now), bring in pretty much what you wanted to, and had very few hassles from anyone working at the stadium. Of course there was only 4,000 people or so at the game, so they certainly didn’t want to run anyone off. And I was young and wasn’t buying the refreshments, but I don’t remember hearing the griping that you here now (deserved griping by the way) about the cost of stuff at the stadium.

Guys, the cost of goods at the ballpark is called “supply and demand”, “market forces”, whatever. They charge more than the corner bodega, because they can. You choose to pay or not, because you can. That’s the way free markets work. You price products at the highest price for which you can sell them, and only stop increasing prices when too few people are willing to pay the price you ask. Why should the ballpark be any different from the company where you work?
Anders
March 20th, 2009

Blawgdawg – Shea would let you bring in those soft coolers and backpacks etc. Plus for a couple of bucks you could go to one of the beer vendors for ice if you needed more during the game to put in the cooler. You couldn’t get beer in but lot’s of guys would bring pre-mixed rum and cokes, seven and sevens etc… No one ever checked to see if the soda bottle was still sealed.

ncsscoots – When they let baseball live outside the anti-trust system then they also have an obligation to keep them gouging the average fan imo. Baseball (and other sports) have received special rights under our law – they should he held to special expectations imo.
They can price it anyway they want – they just shouldn’t have the right to keep you from bringing in your own stuff when it doesn’t present a danger or nuisance to others imo.

Former NFL QB Dies In Greece Crash.
Pennsylvania authorities say a former NFL quarterback who failed to show for sentencing on drunken driving charges nearly four years ago has been killed in a car crash in Greece.
Chester County detectives say the State Department used fingerprints to confirm the crash victim was 52-year-old William “Jeff” Komlo.
Acting chief county detective Jim Vito says authorities had initially been skeptical about reports of Komlo’s death in a weekend crash.
In July 2005, Komlo failed to show for sentencing on two drunken driving convictions. He had also failed to show for an unrelated hearing two months earlier.
When he went missing, Komlo was also under investigation for fires at his home in Chester Springs, Pa., and another home in Florida.
Komlo played for Detroit, Atlanta and Tampa Bay between 1979 and 1983.

I think two things might put Schafer in AAA to start ‘09 and that’s Anderson is out of options and two is they might feel it could hurt Schafer in the future not spending any time in AAA the way it might have hurt Franc. last year. And really, I’m not 100% sold on Frenchy’s progress this spring. He shouldn’t have any of our full confidence until he can do this starting April 5. He’s also shown NO power which worries me. Hey guys. It’s me. No gray, but that’s the least of my issues this afternoon. Long story short I’m typing this on the computer of one of the Braves interns and this is the last access I’ll have tonight. I’ll be stranded!
The bosses are shipping me a new computer to arrive here tomorrow between noon and 3 p.m. So I won’t be posting a new blog tomorrow. but I will jump on this one as soon as I get up and running. Sorry for the confusion. My computer made it from about 2000 to now, so I guess I shouldn’t complain. Just glad it wasn’t a night game.
