jeff, that rub isn’t too far from the traditional blackening mix i use all the time: salt, pepper (red and black, preferrably), garlic & onion powder, chili powder, paprika, a little sugar & some dried herbs (i like oregano). pretty nifty on just about anything. some people make it a wet rub with olive oil. you thoughts?

Bravely going forward, yeah I love to cook & eat.
I just use Kraft BBQ sauce for my ribs.. So, I would be interested in a good sauce recipe. (I really don’t eat enough BBQ sauce to experiment myself.) With that said, I have seen shows on Food Network talking about the combination of rubs and homemade sauces for tasty ribs.

That’s just what the Braves want Josh to do. Just dropped down a bunt on the right side of the infield for a base hit. That’s two hits for him today then.
Line on Lowe: five innings, seven hits, four runs, all earned, no walks, two strikeouts. 65 pitches, 17 balls, 48 strikes.
Infante just hit into his second 4-6-3 double play of the game.

Bravely going forward, sounds good to me. But, that’s more the style I use for chicken. Concerning Olive Oil, I use it all the time on the stove.. However, I don’t like using it on the grill due to flare-ups. Plus, I don’t really like the whole idea of using a drip pan — I prefer indirect heat in that case.
Which I guess is the same thing. Bottom line — drip pans are messy to clean up.

I definitely agree with your assessment of Random’s 1:13pm post. One of the biggest problems in our great country today is the lack of appreciation from some for the sacrifice of others.
It is manifest in the disrespect given to the flag. Anything that is remotely patriotic is deemed by many as militaristic…
We could use a heckuva lot more “militaristic” behavior in the world today.

My son (age 12) is attending the “Coach K” basketball camp at Duke in June and is almost giddy about it. Not that K will be leading the drills himself, of course, but he is supposed to be there and instruct some and they get to play in Cameron.
Regarding the Schafer/Anderson battle: Of course Schafer has the greater upside and is going to be a better major league player, but let’s make sure he gets enough minor league at-bats to cut back on bad habits (like striking out too much). All we have to do is look at the former golden boy in right field for “Exhibit A” on rushing to the majors. (One could also argue that Andruw might have reached his full potential as a hitter had he not been rushed to the majors as a teenager.)

Wayne and DAP- Regarding the national anthem, the MLB should enforce that the anthem is shown on TV by all teams every game. I don’t know how the Braves handle it but the Mets don’t show it most daus and instead ram another commercial or two down your throat. I remember a day when it was part of every broadcast. No more, 9 at least in this neck of the woods).

Melt one stick of butter, add 1 bottle of ketchup, rinse out the bottle of ketchup with 1/2 cup of vinegar, add red pepper and black pepper to taste, 1 T of sugar and a dash of lemon juice. You may sub Texas Pete for the pepper if you prefer, or use brown sugar or honey instead of white sugar. Maybe add a dash of Worcesteshire sauce. This is not a perfect science, experiment and enjoy.

I once played on the Cameron Floor at Duke. Nahhh wasn’t a Dookie, I was playing in the state high school championship playoffs in Durham. Tell you how old I am, Bucky Waters was the coach and he hosted our team for workouts at Cameron that week while we were participating in the state playoffs. I’ve been a Duke fan ever since. Big difference in Duke now and Duke then. Duke wasn’t a doormat in the ACC but they definitely weren’t the powerhouse they have been since Coach K has been there.

That’s cool smoky peaks. It’s interesting the way we become fans of particular teams. This same child of mine became an Orioles and Yankees fan when I took him to Camden Yards and along with most of the crowd was pulling for the Red Sox. Lowe is a funny guy. Gonna like having him around. And he wasn’t too torn up about today. Jersey Gil– I think perhaps I got up on wrong side of bed today or perhaps it is my chronic right heel and its affect on my running, but really, for you to list people like Sharpton, Jackson, et al, who are not Puerto Rican (nor am I) for defining the protest does not create clarity for defining independence versus commonwealth. I could give some credence to ChiChi, but he never stood up politically in any significant way and as for Ivan Rodriguez, he has been a well documented steroid king. However, after reading your defining of Eric Gregg as being a great umpire (because of your own friendship with him) by listing the no-hitter that he umpired while all Braves fans still remember so clearly the playoff fiasco with Livan Hernandez, this lack of logic is not surprising. Apologies in advance for my bombastic self today.

Duke is the most overrated team in college basketball. However, they do a really good job of playing to stheir strengths and covering up their weaknesses. They beat teams that should beat them because they take them out of their game. Then, they make them paly their game. If Coach K would stip being so stubborn and recruit some blue-chippers, then he would easily win more national championships. Hands down the best coach in the game. Not just in X’s and O’s and motivation, he works over the refs better than everyone too. Actually, he may go after blue-chippers and just miss out. I don’t know, I don’t follow College Bball recruiting (just football).
I think Duke loses to Nova. Basically the same team, except Villanova has a better inside game. Nova is much more athletic than Duke though. Of course, gotta give the coaching edge to Duke. Although, Jay Wright is no slouch. If they do some how make it past them, there is no way they beat Pitt. Too much size, strength, and athleticism. Not a good matchup for Duke, or anyone for that matter.
