From the last blog Random (Seem to be posting right at post time these days. aaargh)

Random,
Regarding your 11:25 post. The enter comments here comes up when you haven’t actually typed anything in the posting box and you inadvertently hit the submit comment box. A more robust system would tell you that you haven’t entered anything to post and not waste posting it anyway. But I think we’ve established that the AJC didn’t exactly go top shelf when they bought/developed this product.

But it does serve the purpose. Thanks for the cover with Roach. I’ve seen those types of posts so much I just ignore. He certainly has the right moniker.

BTW- Mets sent Niese to minors today so it looke like Livan Hernandez will be the number 5.

Continuing the Chipper/Toronto issue from the previous blog, Chipper may just prefer solitude on the road. I was in Chicago last summer for the Braves games and I noticed Chipper eating dinner alone in the bar/restaurant of what I presume was the team hotel (Westin on N. Michigan Ave.)

I had no idea that we have a lot of Clemson Alumni here…I am glad that Purnell said the things he did after last nights loss. The Villanova loss last year was brutual enough. Can’t wait to see Devon Booker next year. Hopefully Olgesby will mature a little more next year too. Did you see Carolina’s recruiting class for next year? The rich get richer. They have at least three studs coming in next year.

Hey DukeBoy….Texas is going to give you Dookies all you can handle on Saturday. And if you survive that….Villanova might be there waiting. I really think Duke can beat Texas and Nova. Unfortunately, they dont match up well with Pitt.

Hope Schafer makes the big club. He’s raking, has stolen 5 bases in 5 tries and is as good at going and gettin’ ‘em as Anderson and has a better arm. More power, better OBP. I see no reason for him NOT to be kept on the big squad other than Anderson not having any options. That is no reason to send Schafer down. Keep the best player and do whatever you have to do with the other.

Does anybody see any reason not to keep the best player? Schafer appears to be the better player. Keep Blanco in case Schafer struggles and as a plug in at the other outfield spots. The Braves seriously need some power in the OF, and Schafer definitely has more power than Anderson or Gregor. His power may be gap power for the time being, but at his age he still has room to add more muscle and bulk.

winterville (12:17 pm): “If you are getting ready to make a post but haven’t written anything yet, it will just say “Enter your comments here” in the comments box. My theory is that people are accidentally hitting submit before they have written anything.”

But that begs the question (my question, at least) — how can ANYone “accidentally” hit “Submit”??? But it does happen, and frequently — I’m baffled. Are some people so excited at the prospect of posting that they suffer from premature submission?

Is there some kind of shortcut key to submit a comment? I myself always point and click, which is hard to do “accidentally”, but some kind of shortcut key could be triggered accidentally. I guess.

“Tomato” based sauce is #1 – and Kansas City and Memphis bar-be-que are #1 and #2 – Texas style, when done on a large scale in a pit is also very good. The local BBQ around the small places (the one on highway 61 between Villa Rica and Dallas is the best) have great bar-be-que. It is worth the drive out there on a Sunday afternoon (they don’t open until church is out). The mustard- and vinegar-based sauces are just not to my taste, though when in the Carolinas, everything goes well with a beer.
Now you have me looking forward to getting to Turner Field and toasting Skip & Pete at their chop house and enjoying a sandwich. Though not as good as many of those small places I referenced, it will be good to at least look at the caricatures of the two legends and get this season started!

And you were a toddler when Christian Laettner was winning us back-to-back titles my junior and senior year. Well hopefully we’ll get you another one that you can remember. Can’t say I think this is the year, without much in the way of inside presence, but maybe we’ll get hot and knock everything down. Got to see the ACC final in person and they look like a team that’s figuring out how to win big games. Course, not sure I could have said the same had we played Carolina with Lawson…..without him, different deal.

Good question on Reyes. I’ll have to ask. Got a lot of arms in camp now with Campillo and Vazquez back and Glavine working into the fold.

Carroll, glad to have you on the blog-o-sphere today. though DOB always is good and his comments are informative, you add a certain atmosphere to the scene – thanks.

On center field, I am looking forward to the outfield that will have Schafer in left, Hernandez in center, and Francouer in right. That could really be 3 gold gloves right there – there will be a lot of pitchers wanting to come to Atlanta to have that kind of speed, power, and arms all in the same outfield. I am not forgetting Heyward – there will have to be a place for him – might be a trade in the air for one of the gold glovers.

Dukeboy…Duke is a lot better this season. As soon as Coach K put Elliot Williams in the starting five. However, Pitt is much better than that December game in the Garden in 2007. Blair and Young have blossomed into All American players. Duke relies way too much on the three and has no inside presence. Don’t overlook Nova. American shot lights out in the first half. Nova has a solid inside game too.

Braves SB Leaders (all 5 of them) — Schafer (5), JAnderson (1), Diaz (1), Gorecki (1), Prado (1), all else (0) — great sample size you got there.

While I am an Emory grad, I enjoy Duke Forest and have taught ESL to visiting scholars on campus, so I generally am supportive and wish the best for the team, even though I find Coach K rather detestable in his political attacks on the President.
