Anders get a load of this....from mlb.com.

No simple sentence covered what Redding endured in the 16-8 loss. He found himself explaining -- defending -- his work, but not rationalizing it to any great degree. He surrendered three home runs and five other hits in two innings.

"I can't wait for the e-mails and phone calls about Pedro Martinez," Redding said.

...and Tom Glavine. Hope Jonathan Niese is ready.

DAP, don't be guilty of overestimating our pitching. It's really solid but it ain't even close to being what we saw back in the mid nineties.

As bad as all the injuries were last year, that team had little chance of competing. Even if the pitching had help up, the offense was putrid to the point that few realize just how horrible it really was.

Nobody on the team had 90 RBI. It was 1990 the last time that happened. The 130 HR's was the lowest total since 1989. Simply put, 2008 was the worst showing by the Braves offense in two decades.

Garret Anderson won't alleviate this problem by himself. A lot of other players had better step it up or we will be seeing some great pitching going to waste this season.

Why does Frenchy take the day off after finally have a two hit day? If he is truly finding his swing - why take time off?

If I stunk at my job for two weeks and then had a good day at the office, I wouldn't think I deserved a day off nor would I want to jeopardize the momentum.

Is it arrogance or stupidity - or both?

Jeff321</strong (11:42 am): "MLB network launched in 50 million homes which is the most for any new channel.. ever. So, to say something about “nobody having it” is simply false."

Jeff321</strong (12:05 pm): ">'I dont have MLB network at my house so its not in every household.'

"Its in about 45-50% of the households. But, then again, anyone who “really wanted it” would just switch to Directv. (Assuming they have line of sight for a dish and are allowed to have one.)"

www.bizofbaseball.com: A statement released from MLB Network said, “MLB Network successfully launched on January 1 in approximately 50 million homes. MLB Network is carried by most major cable and telco providers as well as DirecTV on digital basic or expanded basic. As has been widely reported, MLB Network is not carried [on] a specialized sports tier, but does require customers to subscribe to digital basic cable or the equivalent."

But some of the approximately 50 million subscribers expecting to see the new channel were met with blank screens, a product of service level requirements, possible hardware issues, and in at least one instance, a local cable company not having digital service up and running by launch time.

The largest factor, for those that may be expecting to have access to MLB Network, revolves around what is deemed to be the “basic” package. A key point for distribution of MLB Network stemmed from negotiations in April of 2007 for MLB’s out of market package, Extra Innings. While Extra Innings was initially going to be granted to DirecTV as a monopoly, eventually the cable consortium of iNDemand was able to broker a deal to continue to gain access to Extra Innings, but it was stipulated by MLB that MLB Network would also have to be carried, and on the basic tier, the most widely available. According to MLB Network, the distribution deal brokered with all carriers is that all must broadcast on the digital basic, or the carrier’s equivalent, a key difference from early reports. Those that have analog service, no matter the carrier, will need to upgrade.

The exception for the lowest level of digital service required for MLBN, at this stage, appears to be DirecTV. MLB Network is on the Choice package and above. Choice is the level just above what DirecTV deems as "Family", or the lowest level. ESPN, and other sports offerings, are not on the Family level of service.

anders Not to mention one of your so called innings eaters, Glavine, can’t get on the mound yet and can we let Kawakami throw in the MLB for a couple of months before we pencil him in at 180 to 200 innings?

why cant you realize that if we get 200 innings out of vazquez and lowe (almost a given) that will be 2 more guys than we had do that last year? not even counting glavine and kawakami, weve probably got around 100 more innings coming from our guys now than we did from any two guys from last year, not counting jurjens. look at this:

2008:

jurjens 188ip
campillo 158ip
reyes 113ip
morton 74ip
hampton 78ip

those were our top guys. lets just modestly project our 5 this year.

lowe 200ip
vazquez 200ip
jurjens 180ip
kawakami 150ip
glavine 100ip

the first group totaled 611 innings. the second group will total 830 innings. thats a 200 innings difference, and also a modest estimate. if you dont think that will make a HUGE impact on the bullpen all by itself...well then youre lying.

anders

also, since gonzalez is a reliever and not a starter, you cant compare innings the same. a normal season for a star is around 200 innings. lets say a normal one for a closer is 75. thats over two and a half times more innings for a starter. multiply gonzalez's innings by 2.6, and youre at about 88 innings...not to far off of when you said youd expect a starter to start fatiguing a bit after tommy john.
