Anders and your 9″23

I agree with what you’re saying but both of Pedro’s outings have come against the Netherlands. I haven’t been on here bragging about the Braves success in ST for that very reason. But if that’s the way you meant it then I will say that I would rather us beat up on inferior competition than look terrible against it. It’s a lose lose situation because if you do well, it was against nobody and if you do poorly, it was against nobody. That is the same reason I haven’t looked at any of the Mets offensive numbers. I have mainly been trying to see how their pitchers are doing and it has still been a mixed bag. For example, I know Maine gave up 5 today to the Nats with 2 dingers. But it is just ST and health is the main thing that matters. I’m just not sure Pedro is any different than the guy he was last year who you couldn’t really count on for either health or success.

Why do I care about Pedro? Well, I care about him mainly because I actually like him. He is (was?) a great pitcher, a great personality & I have always enjoyed watching him pitch…but mainly it is just good baseball and nobody gave the Dutch a chance to beat the DR once, let alone twice…I am simply enjoying the game and he was strong for 3 innings…he looks good this spring- nice to see after so many problems. I don’t care who he signs with (especially the mets-sorry anders)- but like isaid, i like the guy, nothing more.

Lew- the Mets released Duaner sanchez today saving about $1.2 mil. If they release Garcia that’s another $8 mil. I believe that would more than cover pedro if they think he’s worth it. I was kidding about the antenna.

I have a question outside of baseball for you. I think you said your wife is the dean of admissions at U. of Vermont? If I have that right can you share how this bad economy is affecting them? More and more kids down this way are staying local because of tight credit and parents not having the money. share what you can – just interested.

Hey Boyd just hit Tejada. I’m sure that makes Boyd a made man in the Netherlands!

I sat directly behind the Astro’s bullpen at today’s game and chatted and joked briefly with Burt Hooten (AAA Pitching Coach) and Geoff Geary. Can it really be 28 years since Hooten was the hot prospect out of U Texas drafted by the Cubbies at #2? Geary and catcher Umberto Quintero were especially good sports grabbing some foul grounders and making sure that children received them.

While Houston does not seem to have much pitching talent outside of Oswalt and Valverde, they were truly a credit to their organization. Quintero gave an elderly lady a towel to sit on. She bought him a Coke . . . could have been a commercial.

Saw old Braves Chad Paronto (lost a bit of weight) and Jose Capellan on the pines (well aluminum).

I totally got your point in your original message, and agreed with the majority.
That said, man up and let it go. If you believe strongly in your original opine, there’s no reason to keep defending your point that most everyone here disagrees with.
Yes, you do come across as whiney after the multitude of times you’ve replied and argued that it just isn’t so along with complete supporting arguments on just why exactly you can’t possibly be whiney.

I’m sure there’s some parable, song, or fable about just moving on.

I was more concerned with Hanson’s last start, where he was overthrowing his fastball. For a kid that’s supposed to have his head on straight, that worried me a little.

And, I wasn’t even that worried. If the rest of his “stuff” can bail him out when he’s not on with one of his pitches, then that’s pretty amazing for a pitcher his age.

He’s going to be good. Not sure what all the fuss is about ‘88.

Glad to also see that he’s throwing at some hitters when EVERY pitcher on the club last year failed to protect their hitters.

Bobby’s Cox: I hate the blue uniforms from last year. They were an insult to the baseball gods. When you win your division 14 times in a row in the same uniform, you don’t change it. This is why the Yanks don’t play in solid black or some other trendy BS. And don’t mention the powder blue unis to any Braves fan who suffered through the 70s and 80s. Greg,

You gotta do what you gotta do to raise retail sales. When people stop going to games because said team won 14 years in a row, well, you gotta do other things to raise revenues. Other teams were doing it with alternative jerseys, so why not us? It’s not like it’s something new to the organization. The team went as far as changing their name before. Now that would be an insult to the baseball gods.

Derek Lowe looked like he was pitching to high school kids, today. Only Lance Berkman even challenged him. Very methodical and no nonsense with Mr. Lowe. Loved it. He can be a very good example for young Jair Jurrjens.

Houston is going to have a very bad ballclub in 2009. I think we will see Cecil Cooper take the fall by the All Star break, although I am not sure what he is supposed to do with no talent.

Soriano looked like his old tough guy self. Had the game face on and brought it.

Good at bats by most everyone, but especially KJ, Kotchman, Norton, Diaz and Frenchy. The ball that Lowe stroked (as Caroll mentioned) was very deep ~390-395 to left center (power alley is 390 and CF 408)–he just missed it off the starter Moeller.

Looks like Matty Diaz may really be back to his 06 and 07 form with solid strokes.

Houston’s defense was porous with Hunter Pence make a couple bad plays in RF (I thought he was a good fielder) and Michael Bourne losing one to dead CF in the sun for a double.

What a nice experience at Kissimee vs Dark Star. It was actually quite between innings and during the first couple of innings you could hear the homeplate umpire making his calls all the way to my seats behind 3b in shallow LF. Almost like watching a real baseball game, before all of the showbiz nonsense.

What happened to J.R. Towles, the Astros catcher. Thought he was the next great thing and the Astro fans said he just sucks hitting and behind the plate. We may really see Houston sign I-Rod to tide them over.

Doug Brocail seems like the father of the bullpen as the senior guy. Very professional and still nasty stuff. The guys were very respectful to him.

If Cuban players were allowed to play in the Majors I have no doubt they’d be the best. The pitcher whose throwing today reaches 98-100mph.
