Hey, QUESTION, to answer your question:
Unless I’m mistaken, when they took Lerew off the 40-man last week, he had to pass through waivers. That means any team can have him if they’re willing to work a little trade. If he gets claimed, the Braves are then obligated to make the trade. But no other team so much as raised a finger while he was on waivers and so the Braves reassigned him to the minors at that point. If he had been tradeable, they would have known it then. Instead, knowing he had drawn zero interest as a tradeable piece, they released him so if could seek other work on his own. Hopefully for him, some organization will be willing to take a risk on him if they don’t have to give anything up for his services.

Soriano and Moylan’s health are so important if Atl. wants to be in the postseason. I can’t help but think back to last year, especially late in the season, where Philly’s pen was a big reason they became world champs. Those guys get so overlooked with the “aces”, the hr, and the closer, but those set-up guys are damn important too.
I’ve heard Pineapple Willy’s in Panama City,Fla. is the best place to eat and hang out, does anyone here know what might be better? I’m going there tommorrow with my girlfriend and her friends, so I’ll have to be sure to buy some DARK sunglasses!
His stuff was impressive. That’s what I took from the outing. Yes, he struggled with command. Yes, he gave up a few hits and walked a few batters. However, the raw stuff was overwhelmingly impressive. Since he’s not in mid-season form you can’t expect him to throw a gem. The fact that his stuff was so impressive is what I took from the outing. His 2nd start on Sunday I watched in person and it was even more impressive.
heres something i dont have the answer to, when is dish network going to provide peachtree tv? i have emailed them twice and still havent got anywhere with them. im starting to get nervous, we are gettin closer and closer to the opener
when i was watching blanco hit, which i thought he had a great game in the WBC then watchin abreu hit …they look so much alike its stupid…bobby is just alot bigger and more powerful but the have the same type swing
Braves Fan 88 – Umm, wow, struck a nerve, have I? As I said, unless you are the same person as Braves Tool 88 or Braves IQ 88 well, I never called you out and didn’t said anything bad about you. So just chill dude, you are certainty welcome to your opinions. Just don’t get so danged upset when someone else offers a differing one.
I wouldn’t hold my breath on Dish Network getting P’tree. I had them when I was in college, missed half of the All-Star game one year due to “technical difficulties” and came within a week of not being able to watch the Super Bowl because they were in a dispute with CBS’s parent corporation. I currently have DirecTV and feel that they are much more in tune with their customers, although I think they are also a little more expensive. But back to my point, Dish Network treats their customers terribly, so don’t count on them ever getting Peachtree TV.
cphizzle
Dish is not providing peachtree, unless you live in the metro atl area, then it is available as a local channel. (17) I believe. I went around with them last year about it and they dont seem to be making any progress.
“heres something i dont have the answer to, when is dish network going to provide peachtree tv? i have emailed them twice and still havent got anywhere with them. im starting to get nervous, we are gettin closer and closer to the opener”
Is Dish getting PTree at all? I haven’t heard that, and it Ps me off bigtime.
Can anyone confirm that Direct Tv provides peachtree tv outside the metro area? I was going to switch to Direct, but when i called they said they didnt carry it. But i’m pretty sure i’ve heard before that they do. I’m sure local atl gets it but does anyone away from atl get it on Direct?
i can’t believe how filthy Derek Lowe was. 4 innings 6 Ks and nothing out of the infield. I’d call those ace stats. Lets hope he gives us something close to that in the regular season. go braves!
i heard that they were close to gettin a deal done last year with peachtree tv but something happend and it didnt get done. i have threatened them with switching to direct tv, (which does provide the braves telecast on peachtree tv), and i just might have to.
DWW – I have Direct up here in Chicagoland and last year I had to get the mlb extra innings package that they offer. I was told that was the only way to get the Braves’ games. So no peach for you unless you’re in the south.
DWW I live southwest of Macon, have DirecTV, and yes I do get PeachtreeTV. It’s actually called the “Braves Network” I think on the channel guide, but it’s PTV. I watched the Braves on it last year, and the PTV symbol was by the score box and all. So yes, even outside of Atlanta, on DirecTV you can get all the Braves games that are televised.
BlawgDawg
Thank you, I think i might switch today. I live just south of Hartley Bridge Road, so if it works for you it should work for me. Thanks again.
I don’t think DirecTV carries Peachtree TV outside of the metro ATL area. You can check the locals for your zip code by entering it on their website, but when I tried my parents zip code in South GA it didn’t show up. I don’t understand the MLB rules on blackouts entirely, but I think they cannot see the Braves on an MLB Package (either TV or internet), but they DO get the national broadcast for games that are blacked out in ATL (they can watch in HD on ESPN even if the game is not HD on SportsSouth). I hope this helps.
You can get PTV if you are in the “Braves home broadcast area” which is GA, Ala, SC, part of NC and a small part of TN. Outside of those areas PTV will not be available.
DWW
I live in Los Angeles and have DTV- I only get Peachtree TV through the MLB package and they (DTV) does label it BRVS on their Channel guide
(if you can afford it- i know that is not easy right now- the MLB package is excellent for those of us not in the south…the only games they don’t carry are the “national” games that FOX does)
DWW -Very cool, so your between Macon and Byron then? I live in Roberta, just around the corner from you. I have family that lives not far from Hartley Bridge Rd, just over into Crawford County.
dogsbrekky even better news for you… i think he might have went opposite field on that single off of valverde, if he continues to be patient at the plate he should start seeing some better pitches to hit and do something with them
Milo was indeed the announcer that called Hanks 715. Back then Ernie and Milo would trade off play by play, but he insisted that he was on the mike everytime that Hank came to the plate. Even if it was Ernie’s inning to do play by play. Skip always held that against Milo since Skip and Ernie were so close. One of the reasons Skip let Ernie call some of his innings during the World Series in 1991.
Definitely considering going to Direct TV – not only for Peachtree, but also the MLB network, which Dish Network is still not carrying. They had a gripe with MLB over the extra innings package and now it looks like they are just not bothered about baseball.
You must not have to have the MLB package to get PTV in the south then. I don’t have MLB package and I get PTV (or BRVS literally I guess). And I get the local Fox Sports Network as well without any package, of course I don’t get all the other FSN’s since I don’t pay for the package.
winterville, it was one outing..two innings. Shame on y’all for acting like communists. Last I looked, this blog wasn’t commie. Tommy Hanson isn’t divine, therefore he is subject to criticism. “spoil everybody’s excitement”? Geez, you mean follow the party line. Y’alls “excitement” couldn’t handle one person saying “whoa”, “wait a minute”? And why are people stuck on that one day? Why not my comments since then? I’ve commented on his every outing. Horrible, simply horrible.
BlawgDawg
Yeah i’m just into peach county, a little out in the country. What package do you have with Direct? I just want to make sure i get the right one, because when i called them the other day the guy didnt know what PTV was.
Regarding the competition for CF, early in the offseason David said that J Anderson would not play Winter ball and that his refusal to do so could affect his chances of making the team this year. More recently I have asked why Anderson had not played Winter ball, but have gotten no reply. It seems as though that is not even in the equation as a strike against Anderson. I just wondered if he had a “legitimate” reason for not playing. It seems so since it has not been mentioned as an issue. If I remember correctly, both Schafer and Blanco played Winter ball. Some have suggested that Blanco’s decision to play in the WBC has hurt his chances of making the team. But it would seem to me that his willingness to play winter ball in contrast to Anderson’s lack of willingness (if there was not a good reason) would out weigh the fact that he is playing WBC.
I guess it is a moot point, since nothing has been said about Anderson’s decision. Though I would like to give him a chance and CF, the fact that he would not play in winter ball when the Braves had asked him to do so leaves a bit of a dark cloud over his abilities. Surely the Brave’s FO does not have to give out information to make me feel better…. but it would make me feel better about Anderson to know that he did not just refuse to do what they asked.
ease19, I’m not talking about a single RBI, I’m talking about multiple RBIs – which now they just use RBI for plural as well as singular. In any event it sounds wrong, ergo it must be.
Also, I had thought Larry Munson had been on the broadcast team early on as well, but not according to Wikipedia. They show Hamilton and Ernie Senior in those early years. In fact, Ernie was in the booth while they were still in Milwaukee. By the way, Milo may have been a good broadcaster, but he was an arrogant jerk otherwise. I’ll never forget some of the undercurrent about his elbowing his way into the middle of Henry Aaron’s 715th – not jut the call, but the in-game ceremony. Of course you could bet your bippy that every time Hank came to the plate with the record on the line back then, Milo was at the mic, not Ernie. Plenty of folks resented it and never forgot it. It always tickles me when MLB uses Vin Scully’s call of the HR, that’s now much I despised Milo.
From: PWHjort Braves Fan 88, Hanson still isn’t in mid-season form. You’ve gotta look at the stuff, not the results. And you can’t deny that his stuff was incredible.
Hate to tell you but the “ex pitchers who didnt make it” club is littered with pitchers with great “stuff.” That means squat if you cant locate it, dont know the hitters, etc.
____. So just chill dude, you are certainty welcome to your opinions. Just don’t get so danged upset when someone else offers a differing one.____
ease19 you don’t see your own hypocrisy do you? Anyway, I’m not upset, you really have a high opinion of yourself, I’m just setting the record straight. You can differ all you like, but don’t tell lies , then point to those lies as referring to me and expect me to shut up. Besides, you’re a D-Level blogger here trying to look tough. Trying to act tough with a lurker isn’t going to raise your profile dude. You have to have quality comments, not drama. Keep working though, you might become C-Level by season’s end if you put your mind to it.
To clarify, my concern is not so much about him being a “team” player, though that is there, too. But also (and maybe more so) concerning his desire to play.
DWW I’ve got the Choice Extra plan I think. The BRVS, or PTV, channel is 651. Didn’t see it when I just scanned through packages on DTV’s website, but they should be able to tell you if Braves Network or Peachtree TV on channel 651 is available or not with certain packages.
Agree with you on Milo. Not a nice person. At All.
His son went to the same high school that I did. He was a big plodding first baseman. Milo got him a tryout with the Braves….
Ernie’s son (the one that works in sports) lived in the same area, was about the same age, was a decent guy and a heck of a lot BETTER baseball player. He got no tryout.
If I ever get the chance to listen to milo, I quietly turn the channel.
I live in Mobile, AL and have DirecTV. It doesn’t carry PeachtreeTV regularly, but it does carry all braves games shown on PeachtreeTV on Channel 651. The call letters on the Channel Guide show up as “BRVS”. FSN South is 646 and SportSouth is 649. You won’t be able to watch all regular Peachtree Programming, but i know that here in South Alabama we are able to watch Peachtree Games on DirecTV 651 BRVS.
FROM: winterville “The point is, when it happened, it seemed like you were only throwing out your opinion to spoil everybody elses excitement.”
HUH? When someone posts something less than a compliment, if it spoils someones excitement, so what? Everyone is entitled to his/her own opinion, and if it “spoils” someone elses excitement, thats their problem.
Have you guys taken a peek at the spring training ERA’s across the league? I know it’s of real limited value, and I wouldn’t post it except Atlanta’s lead is so huge.
Atlanta’s first with a 2.83 team ERA so far. The Cubs come in second, a whole run behind with a 3.97 team ERA.
The NL East after ATL: 6th is the Nats at 4.75, 7th is the Marlins at 4.81, 9th is the Mets at 5.09, and the Phils are 11th at 5.65 team ERA.
FROM: ease19 “So just chill dude, you are certainty welcome to your opinions. Just don’t get so danged upset when someone else offers a differing one.”
Seems as if you have it backwords…everyone else is getting upset cause Braves88 has offered a different one.

Dish is not providing peachtree, unless you live in the metro atl area, then it is available as a local channel. (17) I believe. I went around with them last year about it and they dont seem to be making any progress.

DWW,
I don’t think DirecTV carries Peachtree TV outside of the metro ATL area.

His son went to the same high school that I did. He was a big plodding first baseman. Milo got him a tryout with the Braves….

The call letters on the Channel Guide show up as “BRVS”. FSN South is 646 and SportSouth is 649.
Having a nice start on Spring anyways…
