It is really funny that so many people are so excited because Frency has not struck out yet. I saw Ted Williams play the Birmingham Barons during spring training and the Barons had a pitcher named Jim O'Reilly who struck Williams out all three times. It made headlines. Williams hit his usual .350 that year. So I would not get too excited about Frenchy not striking out.

Canadianbrave,

I can't express how delighted I am that the Rangers will have the burden of observing Andruw's unfortunate demise firsthand, not the Braves.

Lew--

OK…I'm working on one for my uncle right now--it's the first cat I've ever done. Let me just say, this is the perfect one to do as a penance. (Nothing against my uncle and his cat or anything. Hey, it was my idea to draw it in the firs place.)

PS--Aren't you proud of me? I didn't say "Perrrr-fect"! ;)

I believe Andre is now 6 for 22 after having a single and a double yesterday! Sounds like he might be coming along to me. As with JF, I prefer to wait and see what the rest of the spring brings. Maybe this guy is jumping the gun a little bit don't you think?

I wasn't crazy about the Tex trade at the time, and I still tend to think, in terms of Tex, that there may have been a better approach to dealing with the problem at 1st base. However, it seems that so often in the discussions it is forgotten that Tex was not the only one the Braves received in that trade. Granted, he was only with the Braves for the last part of that season, but he was, to me, even more important to the success of the Braves for that part of the year than Tex was.

I look at trades in terms of how many games they help the Braves win. That is not always measurable. As I have stated before, there are some people that somehow inspire their team to greater heights. I did not see that in Tex. Even in more visible ways, Tex was rarely a difference maker. He could hit 4 for 5 with 2 HR and 6 RBI in one game (one which the Braves would have won without his 6 RBIs) or he contributed next to nothing. But the "other player" in that trade seemed to have more of an impact on the team as a whole. If the Braves had made it to the playoffs, to me, it would have been more because of him than because of Tex. And that is why we made the trade to begin with, wasn't it?

This year he said he’s consciously going to try to provide more pop. BFIR

I'm sorry to hear that. I think an OBP of .470 and an OPS of 1.04 is worth way more than an extra half dozen or so homers. Afterall his 174 OPS+ was the highest of his career, even better than '99

From the Boston Globe's Nick Cafardo:

Andruw Jones, OF, Rangers: That comeback? Well, how is 4 for 18 with 10 strikeouts to start spring training? "He looks completely overmatched," said one baseball official. "The thing about Andruw is he was never a great hitter to begin with. He played great defense, had some power, and would occasionally have a big year production-wise. But it doesn't look as if he's changed much, and that's probably his stubbornness because he's got one of the best hitting coaches in the game [Rudy Jaramillo] working with him."

Cafardo also says to keep an eye on the Braves' Fab Four: Hanson, Freeman, Heyward and Schafer, if not in 2009, soon afterward.
