ESPN is to the Yankees/Red Sox as MSNBC=Obama, Fox=Republican. It’s just that simple. Although Fox is a little more fair and balanced,(sorry, had to throw that in there).
Interesting reading comments from “Braves fans” who are already knocking the team and the kids we have been itching to see.
Curious if they are really Braves fans.
Remember folks this is the second game of SPRING TRAINING! Everyone’s control is not perfect. Everyone is not pitching at 100% strength.
Hanson showed off why he is considered one of the best prospects in baseball, and effortless throwing motion that produce nice velocity and he has 3-4 good pitches.
NO he was not perfect today, his control was a bit off, I am sure he was a little more nervous than he let on.
If you are not pumped about Hanson’s potential, I really wonder
- if you know anything about baseball.
- if you have followed the Braves at all ever.
- if you are a Braves fan at all.
Take it easy on Hanson. The kid has thrown 2 innings in spring training and gives up a couple of runs and you are ready to right him off!?! Most veteran pitchers take a few outings in the spring to get comfortable much less a young kid making his debut with the big league club. It’s the quality of the pitches and the velocity that you need to worry about, not how many runs he gives up. According to DOB the kid threw several good pitches and notched a few strikeouts with good velocity. I’m satisfied.
AndyC, he was special today is all I’m saying. In fact, if he was some other prospect that is exactly what everyone would be saying today. But since he’s Hanson, we’re not supposed to say anything bad. Well screw that, he wasn’t worth the hype today. May be next time. Now Freeman, he has been worth the hype so far.
Aight gotta Ask again…? Question for the commercial break: What At-Bat Music will G. Anderson use…? For me gotta go with old Mystiakl “Here I Go” that Sheffield use to use…Or Cam’ron’s “Oh Boy”…
I dunno, Braves Fan 88, Hanson’s actual pitches were really really good. Especially the high top speed of the fastball (99????) and the nasty movement on the curve and slider. I was really impressed.
Flange1, ditto. Can’t wait to see all of them up, playing with the “vets” Yunel, Kelly, BMac, and Jurrjens…and who knows? Maybe we can get Chipper out of the rocking chair for one last go at a title!
The thing that impresses me most about Freeman and Heyward is that they don’t look overmatched in the least bit in big-league camp as 19-year olds. That’s impressive. I mean, that HR from Freeman was a man’s HR. DEEP. And even Coach seems to be on the bandwagon, so that should tell you something! (jk, Coach!)
You see why Wren did not want to trade more of our talent (Flowers was bad enough). Overall you could say he did pretty well to give us a respectable rotation and a professional hitter in Anderson for cheap to hold us over. The way he did it makes him his own worst enemy. I don’t think Peavy would come here even if a trade was agreed upon (Towers used us), Burnett and Furcal used us, Griffey abused us. Don’t expect to know much about future trades, it’s going to make DOB’s job harder.

According to BravesFan……Roy Oswalt should be worried too…..i mean he gave up 2 runs just like Hanson did.
Just a terrible day for both those guys…..i mean, who cares that they were hitting high 90’s on the radar gun, and throwing nasty pitches, straight up baffling opposing hitters…..they both hit a batter, and gave up 2 runs……Obviously Oswalt needs to go back to the minors also!!
I guess you and i see things differently though….you sure must have a miserable outlook on life though, if you are a true BRAVESFAN, and came away upset or disappointed with Hanson’s debut!! But i guess you are right in a sense….it does suck to have a 19 year old kid, who’s 6′6″ tall, throws up to 99 mph, as a STARTING PITCHER, and has done nothing but dominate his whole career so far.
And i thought that Frank Wren was bad………thank God you’re not the General Manager!! You might as well go ahead and try and nitpick the kid to death while you can, because you won’t have long before that kid is at the top of our rotation.
