Got some great late movement on hard pitches, and keeps everything down.
Got Quintero to ground out for third out.
February 26th, 20091:54 pm
21 pitches, 12 strikes in first inning for Hanson
February 26th, 20091:55 pm
haha like the new title to the blog DOB
February 26th, 20091:56 pm
Anders, aren’t the Mets playing right now? Not saying, just saying.
Take on Hanson anyone? (MAN I wish I could see him pitch)
only down 2 if Tejada isn’t hit
Campillo gives up three runs in the first inning and he’s toast, why is Hanson a hero for giving up tow runs?
February 26th, 20091:57 pm
Hanson gives up 2 ER in 1 inning…cant wait for all the bloggers and DOB to say how outstanding he was lol
Wow. You have to believe that beaning was intentional. Only time he missed the zone by more than 6-7 inches. I bet that earns him some friends in the clubhouse.
Nasty stuff. Too bad about the runs, but wow. That is some dynamite stuff. I’d bet they don’t touch him next inning.
I think Hanson was nervous. I don’t care what he said about pressure, kid can bring it.
because Hanson hit a guy, and threw strikes
part of the problem of the empty seats has to do with the fact that it’s still early…the spring season opened early because of the world baseball classic.
Toga – I’m watching both and the Yanks. If you want met updates I’ll be glad to oblige.
February 26th, 20091:58 pm
Norton very close to a double down first-base line, just foul by an inch or so
boy when hanson master’s his craft he is going to be so good, cant wait till hes ready to lead the big league club
This kid is VERY impressive! That is the first time I had the chance to see his stuff and I came away nodding and impressed. Excellent stuff without putting too much effort into his pitches. He looks loose and relaxed and is still jacking up 96 mph fastballs with wicked movement and keeping them down. ITs about time that we have a highly touted pitching prospect!! The baseball gods have finally answered my prayers!
I want Blanco to start in Center and be our leadoff guy. Any chance of that?
February 26th, 20091:59 pm
is an 0-2 spring training a bad sign
Hanson Question: You just don’t know baseball if you don’t understand why we get excited at the organization’s top prospect throw 96mph and look much in command in his debut, and we are not excited with a journeyman 5th starter or long reliever giving up three runs.
ESPN360.COM is showing the game for FREE!
February 26th, 20092:00 pm
Nice AB Nawton!
All Hanson needs is to improve his fastball command.
i dont know if hanson intentionally his tejada ..but i like that fact that he did…great AB norton
Blanco won’t be the CF. Josh Anderson is out of options and can hit leadoff.
you know Tejada is hurting
February 26th, 20092:01 pm
Anders, I wish I was where you are. Sounds like a good way to pass an afternoon.
Francoeur should take notes on that Norton at bat.
so, Hanson has his debut, and eveyone is impressed…
I wish I could see it
February 26th, 20092:02 pm
schafer looked bad on that swing
February 26th, 20092:03 pm
Good Analysis on Kruk’s Behalf…On Chipper, especially about him coming back after blowing out of his knee
I guess i will have to go to Gwinnett this year for a game or two
Blanco is the perfect leadoff man. He can hit for average, bunt, and run. He played so well for us last year and we’re just gonna cast him off.

February 26th, 20092:04 pm
What happened to the play by play?
DOB, I believe that K Hanson got was a nasty slider that painted the outside corner.
Anders, do we have to hear the Mutts updates…really?
Dude Ruckus, I think you are way overvaluing Blanco, he is a decent backup type, utility guy
February 26th, 20092:05 pm
Counted 4 so far in 3 minutes lol
CHIPPER struck out with a runner on to end third inning
and there is the first steve phillips “when i was the mets gm” name drop of the day.
February 26th, 20092:06 pm
Roy Hobbs: I know an ERA of 18.00 gets you a seat to AA ball….
Also, Campillo might have been off today, but he has major league experiance. I wish everyone would cut him some slack. Maybe he was just rusty.
I wonder how much ticket sales will go up in gwinnett on nights Hanson pitches just from this one appearance…already had 3 ppl text me saying they’re gonna go see him when they normally wouldnt go watch minor league ball
TnBrian – I’ll give you one you’ll like. Santana is scratched from his start tomorrow. Sore elbow. Now you happy?
Gee Pete if we could all be so cynical and wise as you are
Blanco is a legit leadoff man. He brings energy everytime he steps up to the plate.
Any word on an extention for Chipper?
KJ can’t play D!
Good Stab! K.J. That hop was Nasty!
February 26th, 20092:07 pm
Daniel I dont know what the capacity of the Gwinnett stadium is but you could see turner attendance go down when he starts over there.
Erstad lines out to Kelly, then Jason Michaels reaches on E5 (Prado) on a 91-mph slider.
February 26th, 20092:08 pm
HQ- I think everyone is very satisfied with having Jorge be our long man/ spot starter. It is just Hanson’s day..
E5, Man! Our defense has been either really good or really sloppy today
Prado is such a terrible defender…
February 26th, 20092:09 pm
Gets ahead 0-1 against Berkman, throws a big curve that he takes for Ball 1, then a 99 mph (yes, gun said 99) for ball 2.
Berkman hits a bloop single to CF to put runners on first and second with one out.
cheap hit by Berkman
Come On! Cheese Whiz, Our Outfielders are Either on their Heels or their Range is really Bad…?
No reason you cant Daniel ; )
February 26th, 20092:10 pm
99!?!? what was the location?
Gotta ask is Hanson really …..”NUKE LALooSH”..?
P.S. Hide the dawg;Vick on loose soon.
nice curve to start off Lee
Love the curveball for a strike
February 26th, 20092:11 pm
Robert is back nice, feel free to comment at will
Wow, that Hanson’s a real world-beater. After one inning, an ERA of only 38.45. The Braves’ future looks very bright.
President of Matt Diaz Fan Club
Did Hanson really hit 99mph?
was that a changeup to Lee for the K
Carlos Lee batting with two on, Hanson gets ahead 1-2, including a fouled-back second strike. Goes to 2-2 and gets Lee swinging on a nasty slider. Very impressive pitch.
Hanson to El Cubaillo (Lee) Was Nasty! Rock on T-Hawk!
February 26th, 20092:12 pm
Nice to have you back Robert. Now get to work.
VESTA you may need to re-calculate that ERA….youre way off
Daniel: I agree with your 2:08 comment. Not trying to pounce on HQ, it’s just that it was blatantly obvious in his first inning of work that Hanson has #1 starter type stuff. It’s exciting to have some top level starting pitching coming up through the farm again. That being said, I think Jorge will be a valuable piece to the Braves staff this year, and Hanson will probably start in AAA.
“I think everyone is very satisfied with having Jorge be our long man”
Daniel, on dissenting voice here. I think Bennett, Carlyle, Acosta, Moylan, Soriano, Boyer and Stockman and probably all better than Castillo (and that has nothing to do with today). And Bennett and Carlyle can start or pitch long relief if needed. We’ll probably only carry 5 righties in the ‘pen, and I don’t think Castillo is one of them. We’ll see!
I thought Tejada got that
February 26th, 20092:13 pm
Good Analysis on A.J. Burnett BY John Kruk…And Why I’m Glad we didn’t overpay for A.j. Burnett…
Tejada flies out to LF to end inning.
Overall, impressive showing for the kid. Not perfect, obviously, but the stuff is clearly outstanding. Great slider, good sinker, great movement on the fastball, and a couple of nice, big curveballs.
Blanco needs to leadoff!!
February 26th, 20092:14 pm
DDW had to go to College today, had the DVR working.
That must have been a back up slider that kept running into Lee, he had no chance
What’s up with A-Fraud being in the WBC commercial?
almost every fastball was at the knees
99 mph for Tommy Gun — “whatever he wants, he’s gonna get it!”
Steve from OH
February 26th, 20092:15 pm
Well, two runs or not, I am very impressed with Hanson. Great stuff. Once his location improves to mid-season form, he’ll be nearly unhittable. Yeesh, what a curveball.
Robert, welcome back…. I took my break to watch Hanson in the 3rd… now I need to sit here and get some great play by play from you guys again.
Actually So Far I’m enjoying this ESPNY telecast. Normally I’m cussing out the Commentators by the second inning…
February 26th, 20092:16 pm
As much as I want him to break camp with the team, Schafer needs more minor league at-bats
Who is pitching for the stros
Ruckus, you must be high…
This Jorge Castillo guy can’t hack it, mbatl. I get the feeling that Jorge Castillo will not be on the roster. In fact, I know that he won’t.
Tomahawkin – yea I agree. No blatant Braves hate going on.
Anders, not really since we hit him well. I’d like to see Perez get scratched with a sore elbow.
Geez, trying to watch a ballgame, blog and pretend to work… Campillo, not Castillo. Plus various other corrections that no one cares about …
But I don’t see Campillo making this staff.
February 26th, 20092:17 pm
DOB, what are your thoughts on Schafer’s swings
2nd and 3rd GM remarks…
Is It me or has Esco’s Forearms gotten bigger…?
He may be ready for a # 5 role, But I’d rather see him run more…And hope the 2 stolen bases from last year were an aberration
… so lets name the entire major leagues and then explain each one is a “baseball player”
Coach (Skip and Pete will be missed)
Today was just a tease. Hanson wasn’t on his game. But man did I see the real Tommy Hanson when he pitched in the Arizona fall league last season.
He is everything they say he is. Ace stuff, top of the rotation type of pitcher.
Gotta love seeing Frenchy still hacking at that first pitch:)
February 26th, 20092:18 pm
pork you very much, Chop Chop!
I gotta agree with Ruckus…Blanco worked his way into the lineup last year and I think his hard work as a leadoff hitter has been thrown to the side. I know Anderson is out of options but I think he’s been given too much credit for the last 6 weeks of last year.
Plus if we don’t have Blanco, that forces us to put Escobar at leadoff, which everyone knows that isn’t the place for Yunel to be…
Oh, God, that conversation during Esco’s at-bat was the single stupidest thing I’ve ever heard. Dustin Pedroia….baseball player. Derek Jeter….aarghh!
