Wow. You have to believe that beaning was intentional. Only time he missed the zone by more than 6-7 inches. I bet that earns him some friends in the clubhouse.
Nasty stuff. Too bad about the runs, but wow. That is some dynamite stuff. I’d bet they don’t touch him next inning.
part of the problem of the empty seats has to do with the fact that it’s still early…the spring season opened early because of the world baseball classic.
This kid is VERY impressive! That is the first time I had the chance to see his stuff and I came away nodding and impressed. Excellent stuff without putting too much effort into his pitches. He looks loose and relaxed and is still jacking up 96 mph fastballs with wicked movement and keeping them down. ITs about time that we have a highly touted pitching prospect!! The baseball gods have finally answered my prayers!
Hanson Question: You just don’t know baseball if you don’t understand why we get excited at the organization’s top prospect throw 96mph and look much in command in his debut, and we are not excited with a journeyman 5th starter or long reliever giving up three runs.
I wonder how much ticket sales will go up in gwinnett on nights Hanson pitches just from this one appearance…already had 3 ppl text me saying they’re gonna go see him when they normally wouldnt go watch minor league ball
Carlos Lee batting with two on, Hanson gets ahead 1-2, including a fouled-back second strike. Goes to 2-2 and gets Lee swinging on a nasty slider. Very impressive pitch.
Daniel: I agree with your 2:08 comment. Not trying to pounce on HQ, it’s just that it was blatantly obvious in his first inning of work that Hanson has #1 starter type stuff. It’s exciting to have some top level starting pitching coming up through the farm again. That being said, I think Jorge will be a valuable piece to the Braves staff this year, and Hanson will probably start in AAA.
“I think everyone is very satisfied with having Jorge be our long man”
Daniel, on dissenting voice here. I think Bennett, Carlyle, Acosta, Moylan, Soriano, Boyer and Stockman and probably all better than Castillo (and that has nothing to do with today). And Bennett and Carlyle can start or pitch long relief if needed. We’ll probably only carry 5 righties in the ‘pen, and I don’t think Castillo is one of them. We’ll see!
Overall, impressive showing for the kid. Not perfect, obviously, but the stuff is clearly outstanding. Great slider, good sinker, great movement on the fastball, and a couple of nice, big curveballs.
Well, two runs or not, I am very impressed with Hanson. Great stuff. Once his location improves to mid-season form, he’ll be nearly unhittable. Yeesh, what a curveball.
Is It me or has Esco’s Forearms gotten bigger…?
He may be ready for a # 5 role, But I’d rather see him run more…And hope the 2 stolen bases from last year were an aberration
I gotta agree with Ruckus…Blanco worked his way into the lineup last year and I think his hard work as a leadoff hitter has been thrown to the side. I know Anderson is out of options but I think he’s been given too much credit for the last 6 weeks of last year.
Plus if we don’t have Blanco, that forces us to put Escobar at leadoff, which everyone knows that isn’t the place for Yunel to be…
