Oh! And I definitely agree with you about Kotch. I am looking for him and Vasquez to contribute more than what might seem to be expected by many. The funny thing is, I don’t know why I feel that way about Vasquez, but I do.
But I felt that way about Kotch all along. And now I wonder if Anderson will be a positive presence for him. He certainly has good defensive skills. I like what we have in him. But I wouldn’t mind him having a bit more speed! lol

I hope he turns out better than Milwood. The guy only had three or four decent years and a lot of bad ones. I hardly call 11-10 and a 4 plus ERA good. I certainly hope Hanson does better than Milwood. If he has a Milwood career, he ain’t gonna be much.

Actually, I hope he never signs. I hope the selfish you know what and his money grubbing agent lose their shirts on this one.
I have no patience or need for somebody who would lay down on his team, just to get a better deal. I just hope he gets what he deserves.
But alas, Manny is such a great hitter, somebody will eventually offer him a 1 year contract. But with Abreu and Burrell getting in the 7-8 million dollar neighborhood, what does he REALLY deserve.
In today’s market, 25 million per year is ridiculous. I suspect marketing wise, he might be worth it in LA, but if I am the owner, he never gets that much. 15 million per year for two years would be my top offer in today’s market.
Where’s the tylenol?

The only way Manny is worth $25 million in L.A. is if he brings the team a world series (not likely with the current team…) otherwise people just don’t care enough

We’re agreeing about the same thing here, I believe. I meant to say that Francouer was preventing himself from letting his fast twitch muscles work in a productive way because he was trying to ‘muscle-up’ and hit the ball to Fulton County stadium each swing. This prevented fast twitch muscles from being able to act.
I think that throwing your hands at the ball is a terrible thing to teach a kid. Kids all think then about casting their hands out away from their bodies, thus losing ALL power. Look at all great hitters swings and you’ll see their top hand elbow almost touching the belly-button at contact.
Instead of ‘throwing your hands,’ I say teach quickness with the hands and the importance of hitting the ball on the barrel, regardless of how ‘hard’ you feel like you’re swinging. The ugliest swings can produce amazing power as long as the barrel gets put on the ball.

John Schuerholz was apparently on 680am this morning (didn’t hear it, but was told about it). From what I hear, he set the record straight on Smoltz and made clear that Smoltz DID NOT WANT TO BE A BRAVE; that he had a reasonable offer that was in the same neighborhood as Boston’s and he CHOSE to leave.
The audio from this morning is not archived yet, but we should be able to listen to that on their website tomorrow.

Random its not the venture of that money being worth more over time but the sheer fact he wants a “pay me now contract”. Now if we were talking 4-5 mil then I could see Time/Value being a thought but gzzz we are talking 45mil for 2 years time,most baseball players don’t make half that and truth be know hes only worth 15-20mil over 2 yrs. I stand by the statement He’s an Idiot, or he and Boras are greedy. They could be both.

There is absolutely no local radio for todays game….not sure when that will start! Pete Van Wieren did every game last spring for MLB.com….let me be the first to say TODAY….I miss Pete!

I’d do a play by play but I can’t keep these patients from coming into see me! I guess they have no idea it’s THE season again…sheesh
As for Baby Bird – he’s probably calmed down a bit after the ruckus this morning – my friend came over to use my washer and dryer and I wasn’t home so Baby set off his own intruder alert. She finally started a load and left because he was ‘alerting’ so loudly…. how’s that for an update?
