MLB tv has been hyping WBC games, haven’t heard a word about spring training games. Boy, they’ll have A LOT of news to report when they focus on the Braves for a day.
February 22nd, 200911:32 pm
Eric, I caught that. I was just giving it back at you. That is why I put the lol in there. So you would know. Anyway, no problem.
Halle (not Haley) rather. Yeah, a well deserved Oscar for Kate.
February 22nd, 200911:33 pm
Kate Winslet, best actress in the world.
D.O.Bizzle, I’m not sure I want old man river (Glavine) taking away innings from The Kid. If he’s ready, why waste a year off his arm in AAA? Let him be the 4th or 5th starter this year and then next year he could be #3 behind Huddy and Lowe. He needs the experience from pitching in The Show this year as much as possible because I think 2010 will be the Braves year with our rotation of Huddy, Lowe, The Kid, Jair and Kawakami/Vasquez with young stud outfielders also ready to step up. Whatchya think?

DOB If you want great BBQ (not a very fancy place) try Roosevelt’s in Ocala 1231 NW 10th St. Not quite as good as Hog Heaven in East Brewton, AL but still very good.

AZ Braves Fan: that’s how we cook our shrimp, pour in a bottle of suds. Not a lot of fast-foods joints in Hawaii back in the xxties, especially far away from Waikiki, but we had a Lum’s and we’d hit it a couple of times a week. Yum, yum Lum’s.
Well said Chief – This week (Glav, GA) was just further erosion of W.’s “No Child Left Behind”

Choppin mama – good question on the Sopranos. Not Tony. Not nearly bad a** enough for that. Plainly put, Tony Soprano might have been the best character on series Tv. Not Vito either. Damn good party question. I had surgery a few years ago and was stuck in the house for a while – watched all the episodes in a matter of days. What a series. also, i’m not a former Braves blogger under guise.
Sophia Loren is a fox and old enough to be my grandmother.
To make my last comment baseball-related, the Flyin’ Hawaiian’s parents used to eat there too.
February 22nd, 200911:39 pm
Andrew, Javy V. told me he’ll have 75-80 pitch limit in his first start. HIs Puerto Rico manager is Jose Oquendo, who’s talked to Bobby and Roger about expectations, making sure they’re all on same page about what’s reasonable, etc.
Milf, Milf, Milf
Anyone seen a Hugh Jackman sighting in the past hour?

Speaking of hot dogs, I use the juice from my homemade dills and beer to boil them. The jalapenos and garlic in the juice make all the difference.
Mickey Rourke will almost certainly win, but Penn and Langella were equally deserving. What a year for acting performances. Damn, any of those three of those would win in most any other given year.
Drum roll, please…
And this years oscar for best actor goes to DOB (reporting griffey to Atlanta)

Choppinmama: A little quick research shows that Lums went bankrupt in the 80’s but there are a few still around including one just a good bike ride from DOB in Lauderdale. Come on, Dave, a great hot dog is worth a few hours ride, right? That hurts man i was pullijng for Mickey. Sean so flakey
February 22nd, 200911:44 pm
PENN won. Like his acting. Hate his politics.
And this years oscar for best actor DOB in (Mickey Rourke will almost certainly win)
Milk? WTF? I thought it was Milf starring Marisa Tomei. Oyyh veh!
February 22nd, 200911:45 pm
i like sonny’s bbq. great memories of going there with my grandparents in lake city, fl. its probably my favorite of the chains.
i also liked eternal sunshine of the spotless mind.
Yuck… Sophia Loren is *75 years old!* Do some of you have great grandmother fetishes or what? Thinking about her is like thinking about parents having children together. Ugh!
Now back to baseball… I’m going to another site to get my Braves entertainment…
February 22nd, 200911:46 pm
Jessica Biel is a butterface, Kate Winslett has a British bum, Angelena Jolie is a man baby, Jennifer Aniston is a snob…yeah, I’d like to have em all in a room with me on a cold night.
Hey, he was terrific in Milk. I thought Rourke would win, but like I said, to me Penn and Langella were equally deserving. Penn, I truly believe, is the best actor of my generation. I know some will disagree simply because they don’t like him as a person. The man is a phenomenal actor.
That’s two best-actor Oscars for him.
he can’t stay off the politics
Here we go, another actor taking himself too seriously. Please shut your pie hole, Sean.
Wrestling is fake. It’s not really what you thought you saw.
February 22nd, 200911:47 pm
DOB, The Academy was none too pleased with you reporting Rourke before it was a done deal…. changed their vote.
Penn’s best movie ever- I Am Sam

Penn is a genius really. Far far left being judged by others far further left. Good actor though. I’ll redbox it one day.

the academy probably though Mickey’s role was too close to the belt to beat Sean’s. Also, Sean is so multi-faceted. Which has to play into the decision.
Well deserved. Best movie won.
OK, ladies, everyone into the pool!
I hope Huddy wasn’t rooting for Mickey Rourke. It could be another long day for DOB tomorrow!
I like the Garrett Anderson signing, so now how about this idea. Trade Prado or KJ and low level prospect to the Cardinals for Ankiel. They need a 2nd baseman bad, and they have skip Shumaker to play CF. Then our line up looks like this:

Bravos 11 from Alabny,NY

The Braves signed Anderson for $2.5 Mill. Was there really no way the could have signed Abreu for 5 mill? Seems like Bobby is a much better player at this point.

February 22nd, 200911:59 pm
i met hudson in pittsburgh, really nice guy,got a picture and autograph..DOB you must have really gotten under his skin.
February 23rd, 200912:00 am
Tennbravefan,sure if they take prado
February 23rd, 200912:01 am
TennBravesFan, you’d put Ankiel in the cleanup spot? McCann is better, and I think he will hit more HR’s than Ankiel will this year. Besides, I don’t think Atl. will make any moves until the summer, if at all. They have the trade pieces in Morton/Reyes/Hernandez/Prado for a big trade for whatever they might need later, but I’d think they would stand pat now, and see how things go. I don’t know, DOB, whatcha think?
February 23rd, 200912:03 am
Goes to show, no matter how much the receipient of the Oscar feels the contrary. You can bring yourself or an idea to America and be successful. Thats all folks. Sean gets me fired up.
Breaking News. Slumdog Millionaire wins best picture.
February 23rd, 200912:05 am
Personally, I would hold on to Morton and Hernandez.
DOB,if we can get ohman for a mill or under why not bring him back…do you think the reason we dont is that cox and wren believe in the lefties we have already?
I’ll redbox it to someday.
I think Sophia Loren is still hot. Of course I’m a lot closer to her age than most of you guys.
John Quest (off the DL)
DOB, One of my uncles got to entertain Sophia for a few days in NYC when she came in to promote a perfume that was introduced through his chain of stores (smaller than a nickel and starts w/ JC) I have a great photo of Sophia with him. She has the best set of lips ever made!

Making sure everyone has seen that Tommy Hanson will be pitching Thursday against the Astros (or at least supposed to be); that game will be televised on ESPN at 1:00 p.m. ET. Anyone has not been able to see this kid yet needs to watch this game.
Spotts – I just think the line-up still needs more pop and yes there are about 50 outfielders, but I’m not that impressed with B. Jones, J. Anderson, and I think Blanco is just flat out bad. Diaz is a solid role player, PH and occassional starts, but he is not an everyday player.
February 23rd, 200912:07 am
Penn’s best movie, “Taps”
February 23rd, 200912:10 am
Andruw Jones will opt out of his contract on the 20th and sign with Atlanta after he hits 8 homeruns in spring
February 23rd, 200912:11 am
DOB – name the next blog “the oscars” so we can get back to talking about the bravos.
Penn is usually somewhere around great in his roles but to me Johnny Depp edges him out for best of generation
21 Jump Street
February 23rd, 200912:13 am
Sean Penn in “Carlito’s Way” was off the charts, too.
DOB, you rank Mr. Penn over Day-Lewis? Or do I have the generation line in a goofy spot?
February 23rd, 200912:16 am
This is sad. I have never seen a worse shill for the company that DOB. Even worse is being a shill and missing on so many stories.
Between the horrid off-season reporting and justifying the horrid G. Anderson signing, this is a shocking new low for the paper – which is saying something.
I am a multi-year season ticket holder. I’m pretty disappointed by the bad decision here, but the coverage here is just pathetic.
February 23rd, 200912:17 am
GTguy84, I second that. He’s exciting to watch. Lots of mound presence, made those AFL guys look like children in the one game I saw. I’m sure that won’t be the case at this level, but I bet he’ll look about as grown and ready as the best batters will.
February 23rd, 200912:19 am
Dan – You need to drink more – or start.
Tenn – I see what you’re saying. I just feel like with the ton of outfielders we have (Schafer, Anderson, Jones, et al) and the potential they’ve all shown at some point, that ONE of them will be fine in the majors. But there’s no guarantee.
February 23rd, 200912:26 am
I have a thought on the Oscars… zzzzzzzz. WHAT!… I’M AWAKE! I’M AWAKE!… What was I saying? Oh yeah, the Oscars…
February 23rd, 200912:28 am
Dylan I agree, there’s something special about the way Depp acts.
February 23rd, 200912:29 am
“I am a multi-year season ticket holder.” -Dan
I wasn’t going to pay any attention to your lamely exaggerated complaint until I saw that you were a multi-year season ticket holder!
Did you know the AJC doesn’t own the ballclub? Or did you mean those were your credentials for judging blogs?
February 23rd, 200912:31 am
Another comment from an Angels fan:
As far as signing Anderson is concerned, you have received just what you paid for. A seasoned hitter with average defensive capabilities. He will be great for the clubhouse. Anderson is a left handed slap hitter with a most beautiful swing. My son is left handed, and I am trying to model him after GA’s swing. One thing you Braves fans will just love is GA’s ability to do a spin throw on a ball hit near the line. Garrett’s move to the ball is casual looking, so most hitters will attempt to take second, bad move on their part. GA’s spins and throws a dart to second, getting the runner almost always. Players that have been in the league for years still try and fail to run on him. It’s really cool to watch. He will never dive for a ball. It’s just not him, no matter what. He is a calm man. Some like it, and some don’t. He is definitely consistent. The Mets are going to win the division, sorry. But I think the Braves have a great shot at the wild card, and from there, it’s anybody’s.
February 23rd, 200912:33 am
buddylan – Good call on Day Lewis. Great Actor. And, he plays in movies the average man can get behind.
February 23rd, 200912:36 am
Speaking of Sean, Anybody ever see U-Turn with Penn,Nick Nolte,Powers Boothe, Jennifer Lopez, Billy Bob Thornton, Jon Voight, Claire Danes & Joaquin Phoenix? An Oliver Stone throw-away with a twisted ending.
February 23rd, 200912:37 am
I just did what you did last night. Ran out of beer. Guess I’ll have to raid my brother-in-law’s shop fridge. Shhhhhhh

DBMac, aw, man, I need one of those. Out of beer on Sunday is a low, low feeling (sorry, Lord…)
Frankie, Daniel Day Lewis really knocks me out. Rare to find a guy with that brand of masculine charisma who is that great of an actor. Nice guy, too, super-humble and real in interviews (the ones I’ve seen).

Bubdylan Out of beer any day is a low, low feeling.
February 23rd, 200912:57 am
nolie, I tried to like U-Turn. It didn’t work out. (Did like some of Penn’s work in it.) Having said that, if it had been the first Stone movie I’d seen, I’d have probably flipped over it. But his brand of gritty sex-murder-camera-frig-action had worn me out by then.
February 23rd, 200912:59 am
DOB, dont you think that is alot of pitches for a first start of the year? (javy 75-80)
February 23rd, 20091:01 am
Bobby’s Belly Bub – My identity was stolen 6 months ago by a Nigerian cartel.
I wish they would steal Scott Boras’ identity. Well, I guess in all honesty he doesn’t have any more identity than he has a soul.
February 23rd, 20091:04 am
G’night, Braves fans. Some baseball games to talk about soon, huh? Never been more ready. Later.
February 23rd, 20091:10 am
I do Andrew…. from the Braves perspective. On the other hand, if you are going to play these games and they are to mean anything, I wouldn’t want my starting pitchers just going 4 innings.
February 23rd, 20091:13 am
I’m not really a Stone fan, but I love the old film noir movies and “everybody dies” endings. Awesome cast for such a relatively unknown movie. Also liked State Of Grace with Penn and Ed Harris and Gary Oldman.
February 23rd, 20091:14 am
Been reading the blog for over a year now, rarely comment. Looking forward to the season. Think we’ll be seeing meaningful games into September, even if we miss the postseason. We should be competing for the division at least. One question, why is everyone assuming only one of the three of Anderson, Blanco and Schafer will make the team? I like the idea of Schafer as CF, and either Anderson or Blanco as fourth/fifth outfielder. Either one could be valuable as a pinch runner, PH, could bunt runners over, make contact, etc. Would love to see Hanson in rotation ASAP. Bubdylan, you’re becoming the most entertaining poster on the blog lately. And thanks for the blog, DOB, it’s about the only thing I still read from the AJC anymore.
February 23rd, 20091:15 am
Bubdylan, I’d rank Penn first for the much larger body of work, and an eclectic body of work at that. I’d put Day-Lewis with Edward Norton and Viggo Mortensen just below Penn, for this “generation,” meaning, say, 25 to 50 or so years old (I think Day-Lewis is 51 or 52).
I tell you who I think could become one of the greats — Ryan Gosling, the guy who started in Half-Nelson (great movie about the drug-addled teacher), Fracture, Lars and the Real Girl and The Notebook, among others. He’s a phenomenal actor.
February 23rd, 20091:18 am
Bravos11: Agree with you that they should have gone harder for Abreu at $5 mill, a better offensive player than G. Anderson. Braves really don’t like Abreu’s defense, but not like G. Anderson’s going to win a Gold Glove (though his D is better than Abreu’s at this point). Then again, I don’t know if Abreu would’ve taken their offer to play left field after all this time in right field.
February 23rd, 20091:25 am
Bobby’s Belly – so wrestling is fake? Maybe so, but you should really say that face to face with a wrestler instead of a blog……
February 23rd, 20091:33 am
Hmmm I didn’t know this.
Another Angels fan:
He will start off slow and have 45-50 of his 75-85 rbis after the allstar break.
February 23rd, 20091:34 am
Like the G Anderson signing. Biggest reason is didn’t have to trade prospects, also cheap, can bat cleanup which puts Chipper batting #3, and McCann batting #5, and has decent on base percentage with runners in scoring position.
We talk baseball, other sports, music, movies, BBQ and whatever (except politics or religion)
