D.O.Bizzle, I’m not sure I want old man river (Glavine) taking away innings from The Kid. If he’s ready, why waste a year off his arm in AAA? Let him be the 4th or 5th starter this year and then next year he could be #3 behind Huddy and Lowe. He needs the experience from pitching in The Show this year as much as possible because I think 2010 will be the Braves year with our rotation of Huddy, Lowe, The Kid, Jair and Kawakami/Vasquez with young stud outfielders also ready to step up. Whatchya think?

I like the Garrett Anderson signing, so now how about this idea. Trade Prado or KJ and low level prospect to the Cardinals for Ankiel. They need a 2nd baseman bad, and they have skip Shumaker to play CF. Then our line up looks like this:

KJ/Prado 2B
Escobar SS
Chipper 3B
Ankiel CF
McCann C
Anderson LF
Francoeur RF
Kotchman 1B

Another comment from an Angels fan:

As far as signing Anderson is concerned, you have received just what you paid for. A seasoned hitter with average defensive capabilities. He will be great for the clubhouse. Anderson is a left handed slap hitter with a most beautiful swing. My son is left handed, and I am trying to model him after GA’s swing. One thing you Braves fans will just love is GA’s ability to do a spin throw on a ball hit near the line. Garrett’s move to the ball is casual looking, so most hitters will attempt to take second, bad move on their part. GA’s spins and throws a dart to second, getting the runner almost always. Players that have been in the league for years still try and fail to run on him. It’s really cool to watch. He will never dive for a ball. It’s just not him, no matter what. He is a calm man. Some like it, and some don’t. He is definitely consistent. The Mets are going to win the division, sorry. But I think the Braves have a great shot at the wild card, and from there, it’s anybody’s.

Been reading the blog for over a year now, rarely comment. Looking forward to the season. Think we’ll be seeing meaningful games into September, even if we miss the postseason. We should be competing for the division at least. One question, why is everyone assuming only one of the three of Anderson, Blanco and Schafer will make the team? I like the idea of Schafer as CF, and either Anderson or Blanco as fourth/fifth outfielder. Either one could be valuable as a pinch runner, PH, could bunt runners over, make contact, etc. Would love to see Hanson in rotation ASAP. Bubdylan, you’re becoming the most entertaining poster on the blog lately. And thanks for the blog, DOB, it’s about the only thing I still read from the AJC anymore.

Bubdylan, I’d rank Penn first for the much larger body of work, and an eclectic body of work at that. I’d put Day-Lewis with Edward Norton and Viggo Mortensen just below Penn, for this “generation,” meaning, say, 25 to 50 or so years old (I think Day-Lewis is 51 or 52).

I tell you who I think could become one of the greats — Ryan Gosling, the guy who started in Half-Nelson (great movie about the drug-addled teacher), Fracture, Lars and the Real Girl and The Notebook, among others. He’s a phenomenal actor.

Bravos11: Agree with you that they should have gone harder for Abreu at $5 mill, a better offensive player than G. Anderson. Braves really don’t like Abreu’s defense, but not like G. Anderson’s going to win a Gold Glove (though his D is better than Abreu’s at this point). Then again, I don’t know if Abreu would’ve taken their offer to play left field after all this time in right field.
