cvbraves, across the Tar River? Can’t remember BBQ place, but I remember a place that had the best hot dogs imaginable, that was right across the Tar River.
I lived a a block from the Tar River. My grandma moved into the house after we moved to Memphis, and that flood about 6-7 years ago that covered much of Greenville went to the rooftop of the house. They razed it and all others on that end of my old street.
Regarding our new OF, don’t throw away Diaz quite yet. While Anderson hits LHP for average, there’s no power, or wasn’t last year. .290/.703; 1/15 in 124 ABs v. LHP. .293/.773; 14/69 in 433 ABs against RHP. He only played 82 games in OF last year, so Braves would be wise to give Diaz those 124 ABs, and a few more.
Anderson’s HR totals from ‘99 to ‘03 were 21, 35, 28, 29, 29. Then, beginning in ‘04, his totals have been 14, 17, 17, 16. Maybe this is just the normal aging process for a guy who will be 37 this summer, but then again, when were the anonymous drug tests given? But then again, I’m sort of resigned to the fact that drugs were a significant part of the baseball culture at least through ‘03. Even if he had some extra help in those earlier years, his HR totals suggest that he’s been clean recently. And then again, it could be just the normal aging process.

Memphis? Corky’s BBQ all the way.
I hope everyone had a great week-end.
The Tommy Hanson thing is very exciting. I am really looking forward to the Tuesday afternoon in April-May when we find out Hanson is going to make his Braves debut, and I glide over to Turner Field to see our future ace.
Last year, we heard a lot about how great the Braves looked in camp, but all that fell very flat when we opened the season with cold bats in DC.
This year, has a different feel. We aren’t being told that we are a WS contender; however, we have some good veterans and a whole bunch of young guys that I can’t wait to see.

Kate Winslet is way, way attractive to me. But that all started with “Eternal Sunshine…” Showed a part of her… uhh… aura(?) that rather blew me away.
February 22nd, 200910:29 pm
Iron Man was another movie I liked more than Benjamin Button.
February 22nd, 200910:30 pm
Does this guy say uh more than, even I do?
I enjoyed Eternal Sunshine…And it did change the way I thought about Ms. Winslet. Before that she was just the chick from Titanic.
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind is one of the most abstract movies I’ve ever seen.

Here’s my category – I’m calling Iron Man

Thats where we have to split ways DOB. Aniston just seems like she would be an incredible person to hang out with. And, her body in Along came Polly. Yiazza.
February 22nd, 200910:36 pm
Bubdylan-Nice kid glove treatment.
The Artist Formerly Known as Too Hot For Teacher
February 22nd, 200910:37 pm
I’ve got to go with Aniston – and Amy Adams is a close 2nd. Hey DOB – have you seen Slumdog Millionaire yet? it keeps winning and i havent found anybody that’s seen it yet.
February 22nd, 200910:38 pm
Aniston seems to needy and plain boring. Where’s the challenge? Jolie is a mystery. I’d see her as a challenge IN MORE WAYS THEN ONE. Besides – remember the infamous “Velcro Room?”
February 22nd, 200910:39 pm
Has her body changed? What you been sm***kin? That’s probably why you think she’d be incredible to hang out with
February 22nd, 200910:40 pm
Lew, lol… oops, no, I really meant “aura,” just didn’t want to use such a over-used word.

All that talk about hot women. I’m 56. I’ll take anyone that’ll look my way. Memphis BBQ, Rendvouz and State Line BBQ.

slumdog millionaire is a great film. danny boyle has been making great films for the past decade +. i’m glad tonight has been good to him and his film, thus far.
(in addition to Slumdog Millionaire, his resume includes: shallow grave, trainspotting, a life less ordinary, the beach, 28 days later, sunshine)
if you want a good hot dog go to Yum Yum’s in Greensboro near UNCG – though it is hard to argue against the Varsity
Eric, obviously I don’t know who wrote that, but as you can see, they claimed to be a fan. It might have been him. Since he has not been involved in ST to this point, he probably has been sitting around reading blogs. lol
But that is not the only one. There were several Angels fans who made very positive comments about Anderson. I copied that one because several had wondered about the relationship of Anderson and Kotchman. I realize that what the person said was syrupy, but take away the syrup and there was still something to see there. A few interesting things.
February 22nd, 200910:44 pm
Do u guys agree with the “faux” poll about who u would like to see in the outfield as of now:
Garret Anderson 58.59% 2333
Braves prospects 26.07% 1038
Ken Griffey Jr. 15.34% 611
February 22nd, 200910:45 pm
AZ Braves Fan: I can assure you I didn’t put that line in about “MLB.com reported … after it first appeared on AJC.” That line was added to my story.

rendezvous is way overated! Corky’s is good, but why go to Memphis for it when I can get Sticky Fingers here in SC. Exact same thing. Nothing is better than Bucky’s in Greenville, SC!
brian are u in gboro?

California Dreaming is great down on Greenville.
February 22nd, 200910:51 pm
Frankie K: “yiazza” Is that a Mike Piazza pronoun like: youiazza, themiazza, himiazza and weiazza?
DOB: the editor/copywriter in me forces me to note “plain-Jane”

joe fan – those croissants w/ that butter… UMMMMMM UM UMMM!
Canadian Brave – its not what i’ve been smoking. But, I’m watching the Oscars with a few friends and i’ve had few chardonnays – what of it? ( a little Sandler humor for you ). But, Along Came Polly is the last move i could think of where she was scantly clad. My friend just let me know she was also ” ” in The Break up – but i didn’t see that one. Also, I doubt I could count 50 with Aniston.
By the way, Elisha Cuthbert aint half bad either. But, i don’t play hockey. Where i’m from, frozen lakes break and subsequently you die.
K with K
I am kinda bumed about the Anderson move. I wanted to see what Brandon Jones could do in a full season when healthy. Not as famous as some bigtime BBQ cities but Columbus GA does some good things with pork.
February 22nd, 200910:57 pm
i wonder if mlb network are showing spring training games..anyone know?
February 22nd, 200910:58 pm
Is Sonny’s BBQ still decent? Its been so long.
Eric from MO
WAIT! WAIT! WAIT! You mean there was people who actually liked Eternal Sunshine of a Spotless Mind??? That was one of the dumbest movies I have ever seen. Had a cool idea, but it sucked!
February 22nd, 200910:59 pm
Speaking of hot dogs, anybody remember Lum’s? I could always get a good kraut dog there, even up in the mountains on Oahu.
K with K – No offense, but at 10:59 on Sunday – who cares what Brandon Jones does.
February 22nd, 200911:00 pm
ChoppinCougar – I guess i’m just not that adept at phonetics. You wanna educate me? jk
ya those croissants are amazing!
February 22nd, 200911:01 pm
PTBNL that was complete sarcasm. I really didnt mean for a response.lol
So did Huge Jackman get canned right in the middle of the show?
February 22nd, 200911:02 pm
Eric from MO – I liked it, what of it? Saw it after going through a pretty bad break-up and it freaked me out. I’ve never seen any piece of cinema that nailed a relationship quite like that film.
Sorry PMDFC didn’t know it was such a touchy subject. Sonnys BBQ…people are talking about real BBQ and u pull out that franchised crap
Mike Lum batting for Hank Aaron

joe fan – I used to live in Thornblade right down the road.
amidst all this academy awards stuff, anyone catch any episodes of East Bound and Down on HBO? Funny show if you like your comedies with a lot of fowl language.

From Bravestalk message boards, it appears I am in the minority that I like the Garret Anderson signing…
February 22nd, 200911:05 pm
Hey McFann: I hollered at you on a previous blog a couple of days ago (when you could still follow the threads of the day). I congratulated you on hanging in with the guys all during the off-season. I’ve just been reading ’til a couple of weeks ago. Now I’m getting back into the swing of the soon-to-commence season with so many new faces. We’ll have our work cut out for us, learning all the info on the newbies. That’s where DOB is invaluable, right??
I guess I missed the story of your turtle too. Is that in honor of your Mr. Speedy? (sorry, couldn’t resist)
i was checking out the schedual and they will be playing alot of spring training games
February 22nd, 200911:06 pm
There he is. He introduced Darkman
The Oscars are a SHAM. Best movie of the year wasn’t even nominated! They are liberals who wanna stick it to the movies who actually fans enjoy and wanna appear sophisticated by trumping up movies like “Slumdog”
If I can comment on BBQ, Memphis is good, but there is one place I ate at in North Carolina that was great. I cant remember the name but my sister used to live in Mooresville and it was in Mooresville. However KC is defeintly better than the Carolinas tho.
However if you want the best bbq go to a place called Strawberrys. It is located in Southeast Missouri in a lil town called Holcomb. It is a town of 250 people. You can cut their porksteaks with a plastic fork, thats right a plastic fork. The owner has no teeth so he has to make them that tender so he can eat them. They also have the BEST seasoning! It is truly heaven!
Dark Knight, Iron Man and Grand Torino all deserved to be nominated for best picture!
Not sure if it’s been posted, but maybe signing GA helps Kotchman in some weird way. May help him get more comfortable in Atlanta with a familiar face.
I think Kotchman will have a good year. He’s not regarded too highly by many on here, but I think he’s 20HR/100RBI/.300 capable.
I’m happier with GA than I would’ve been with Griffey. He’s a great clutch hitter, something that was missing on the roster last year.
February 22nd, 200911:07 pm
DOB,will javy be restricted in how many innings he can pitch in the WBC?
know thornblade well, went to riverside hs myself.
they will be playing live and replay of games
February 22nd, 200911:08 pm
Mike In H-Town: No. There are others who like it. And many more who don’t mind it. Personally I’m interested to see how it plays out having a consistent hitter on the team over a .200 average and .400 OBP.
Dude – first off I’m cranky, second I live twenty minutes away from Lexington BBQ. I’m the most jaded/spoiled BBQ CONNOISSEUR you’ll ever meet. Having lived in ATL – I was simply asking if the “yes” franchise Sonny’s was still DECENT not GREAT. Big difference! Lastly, Smithfields in NC is a chain, but still considered one of the best places to chow down. So that has nothing to do with anything. If its good, its good. Clearly Sonny’s is not good. Thanks.
February 22nd, 200911:09 pm
joe fan me too, so sh**
February 22nd, 200911:10 pm
President of Matt Diaz,”K with K – No offense, but at 10:59 on Sunday – who cares what Brandon Jones does.”
This is a baseball blog. If at 10:59 on a Sunday you dont care about baseball go to bed. What a jerk!

There is a pitch count, that increases after each round.
February 22nd, 200911:16 pm
I’d like to see the braves trade Frenchy for Marlon Anderson, then we can have an outfield full of Andersons…
Bet that would be a first…
Eric from wherever, two can play that game: “WAIT! WAIT! WAIT! You mean there was people who actually liked Eternal Sunshine of a Spotless Mind??? That was one of the dumbest movies I have ever seen. Had a cool idea, but it sucked!” You insulted my cinematic sensibilities as well as getting off the so-called sacred topic of “baseball”. Go figure.
February 22nd, 200911:17 pm
class of 99 myself.
Get a room, you two.
February 22nd, 200911:18 pm
I relate the Garret Anderson signing to Mark Kotsay.
Only one played CF and Garret plays LF.
Perhaps a little more power potential.
Without the bad back
Frankie Knuckles: just funnin’ with you. I’ve been enjoying your postings for the last few weeks, some wit mixed in with some wisdom. Unless you’re an old blogger with a new name , good to have some new denizens on here. Which one are you on the Sopranos?
Speaking of the Sopranos, when it first came out, we didn’t get HBO. Fast-forward a few years later, I’m down at spring training one evening watching tv in the motel, see the Sopranos are on, and say to myself, “Choppinmama, now’s your chance to see this show that everyone is talking about.” So the episode I watch is the one where one of the crazy guys takes a girl out into the parking lot of the Bada Bing and beats her to death.
OK, didn’t get a restful sleep that night, haven’t watched another one since.
February 22nd, 200911:20 pm
Harrison Dangler – I have some Marriott Reward Points.
February 22nd, 200911:21 pm
With Francoeur and the Andersons, we’ll go from the team with the fewest outfield homeruns to the team with the fewest outfield homeruns AND walks.
February 22nd, 200911:22 pm
hey man I can understand u being in a crapy mood. Didn’t see why u would attack my comment.
joe fan – I don’t recognize our beloved school anymore. They rebuilt a new, greener version. Its pretty cool
February 22nd, 200911:23 pm
President I didnt get mad at someone for talking about baseball.
K WITH K – Don’t take it personally. I apologize.
Choppinmama — Wow. That brings back some memories. I grew up in Marietta, and there were a couple of Lum’s to choose from. My parents used to take us kids there. I fondly remember their hot dogs being boiled in beer.
And now, as an amateur chef, that’s how I make them. Start with a high quality dog such as Nathans, Vienna Beef, or Hebrew National; almost cover them in a good light-bodied lager, say Heineken, and steam them until they plump. Excellent with a warmed sauerkraut, diced onions, and good deli mustard.
Sure, there are a lot of ways to enjoy a good dog, but out here, my friends really like it when I cook them like this.
February 22nd, 200911:24 pm
Eric from… That makes no sense.
February 22nd, 200911:25 pm
Actually I think there was Felipe, Jesus and Matty Alou!
February 22nd, 200911:26 pm
How does that not make sense? You attacked someone’s post for no reason because they were talking about baseball.
Anybody else got “Let Your Love Flow” playing in their head?
February 22nd, 200911:27 pm
My God, Sophia Loren is STILL gorgeous, still sexy as all get-out.
when did everyone get so sensitive?
Now that makes sense. The previous post did not.
