if Shaefer doesnt stand out this spring he wont be on the roster as a pinch hitter they will put him in AAA for more seasoning. I see Garret starting about 7 out of 10 games and Diaz starting the rest. Garret was DH alot last year, he’s gonna need rest kinda like McCann. Josh Anderson doesnt have leadoff abilities he does have great speed but he doesnt walk much and he strikes out too much. I think Shaefer wins the CF job. Garret/Diaz, Shaefer, Francour and remember Norton and Infante and play OF too. Blanco/Jones go back to minors, Anderson out of options…
i suspect that the mets fans wanting hudson over castillo had less to do with how he hit braves pitching (although he only has a career avg of .145 against lowe and jurrjens) and more to do with how he hits everybody else’s pitching. He only hit .245 with 3 hr and 28 rbi last year. Hudson hit .305 with 8 hr and 41 rbi last year.
Anders – Watching the demise of the newspaper business is positively weird. There’s certainly lots of reasons why…maybe the big city paper(s) are trying to write for too wide an audience? They’ll probably all go by the wayside before we know it…cause they can’t publish them if they’re not making any money. DOB, you’d better start designing your own website and selling some advertising.
Braveheart – I have to disagree, about Will Smith. Sure he has star power and anything he does will make alot of money, but if you take Six Degrees, Baggar Vance, Pursuit of Happiness, I am Legend…there is some definite acting going on…Its funny Tom Cruises best acting probably came out of Tropic Thunder…
ryanJosh Anderson doesnt have leadoff abilities he does have great speed but he doesnt walk much and he strikes out too much.
what are leadoff abilities to you? based on what anderson has done at the major league level (which is not that much, but its still something to go on) he definitely has leadoff hitter capabilities. the guy gets on base. in the majors, at a .364 rate, in the minors, at a .344 rate. coupled with his speed, that makes him a pretty decent leadoff hitter, in my book.
dadgumAnderson is not coming to the Braves for a straight platoon job. NO way. He is now the LF starter for Atlanta.
what makes you say this? i dont think this will be the case.
Keanu Reeves is alot like Nick Cage. ITs more the story line and supporting actors that make their movies so great. I dont think their acting, solely, has ever been a reason that one of their movies was good; you could probably put any actor into their roles in ANY movie they have made and i bet they are still excellent movies.
But – i would say that Keanu Reeves was better to watch as a young star than Nick Cage was…..he always made me feel awkward.
On baseball – i would also like some more detail as to what is making Jordan Scheffer a stud this Spring Training…..Hows he looking in the OF and in the cage….someone down in FL with a camera want to post some links of some stuff? Or is there a way to watch other than actually going???
Anders, When I read that Murphy was getting the LF job and not platooning It knew you would be happy because of our converstion the other day before my job got in the way. I still think having Reyes out of the lead off spot is a mistake so I hope the Mets go ahead with it.
Might see a lot of Mets’ and Phils’ fans complaining now that the Braves’ have done so well in the off-season! Here’s the division finish: Braves, Phillies, Marlins, Mets and Nats.
Louis Prima – Ride the train to city sometime at rush hour. Used to be everyone had at least one paper with them. Now with I-pods, Blackberries and laptops with air cards it’s less than 50%.
Plus the distribution costs to the outlying suburbs to those that don’t take mass transit is just too prohibitive. It’s a real problem.
Lastly, with all these various 24 hour cable channels you can find just about anything you need anytime and much of it while you’re getting ready to leave the house in the morning.
Paper newspapers will be remembered like we remember fax machines in the years to come. The information will still be shared – just on a different format.
the mets not batting reyes leadoff is silly. im not getting that. the mets have some great middle of the order hitters….they have no need to bat reyes third. anders, can you explain this?
DAP- I think baring injury, they are going to give the LF job to Anderson and spot start Diaz. I am not really sure that they will platoon in left. That is what I think, but I could be wrong. I agree with dadgum.
Gibby – I hear you on the Reyes thing. Manuel is up to something here. I am a little intrigued to see how that would play out. If Castillo can get o base at a decent rate this could be a dangerous order.
The problem is that most of the guys they’re talking about will be in the WBC. Will Reyes bat 3rd for the DR? I doubt it. This damn WBC keeps getting in the way. On the other side Reyes not being in camp clears the way for Castillo to give it a shot. Maybe that’s Manuel’s reasoning?
Anders the mets are in the same situation with Castillo as the Braves with Francouer, but I like Frenchy’s chances better since he is so young. Both teams really need them to produce this year.
HEY DAVE: I just heard Tim Hudson talking to the Rude Awakening crew on 680 the fan. Rude asked him about the Griffey dustup and I thought it was rather cowardly that instead of saying he jumped the gun in his reaction to the bogus story of you being the reason for Griffey changing his mind, he rambled on about “people breaking stories before their confirmed”. I might could understand his initially being upset by the story, but I find it immature of him to not own up for his mistake of jumping your case once he found out that Mays had changed his mind, not you.
I live in the tri-state area, so I listen to FAN and ESPN RADIO 1050, and Mets fans ripped Castillo. I watched on SNY and he knows how the fans feel about him and that he has something to prove. When he’s on, he’s a dangerous #2 hitter. He just doesn’t have the speed he once had. He was a leadoff hitter in Florida.
Not sure it makes any sense to debate the potential platoon splits between Diaz and Anderson. Bobby is going to start Anderson most of the time, and give him a day off every once in a while vs a lefty.
Even if Diaz is killing lefties, you know Anderson is going to get as much playing time as he tells Bobby he’s up for. He’s a proven veteran, and a good clubhouse guy, so Bobby will be loyal to him unless he’s near the Mendoza line. You can throw your stats, splits, and projections out the window. No point worrying about it now.
I just hope Anderson can get through the first 6 weeks of the season around .290 with decent defense so everyone isn’t clamoring for his head.
If your looking for an option to watch the Braves, you can check MLB TV. Just make sure the games aren’t blacked in your area, otherwise you’ll probably have to result to the Premium Satellite packages. I’ve moved out of market and the MLB TV plan works well for me.
