A year of freebies from Chick-Fil-A

jan filaThe Chick-fil-A 2013 Calendar is here!

It is the 16th edition of the Cow Calendar featuring the “Eat Mor Chikin” Cows in all their bovine glory. The theme for 2013 is “Royal T-Bones: It’s a Tough Job, But Somebody’s Gotta Steer History.”

Each month features the lives of 12 history rulers who led their cow kingdoms to a better way of life including “Chrisheifer Columbull” and “Queen Marie Ancutlette.”

But the best feature is the new digital gift card that come pre-loaded with a free Chick-Fil-A menu item each month. You just purchase the calendar and register the card inside online to activate the freebies.

Some of the yummies this year include: a free Chick-Fil-A chicken sandwich in Jan.; a free spicy chicken biscuit or large waffle potato fries in May and a free chicken salad sandwich in August.

Calendars cost $6 plus tax and are available now through early Jan. (or while supplies last) at all freestanding and mall-based Chick-Fil-A locations and www.chick-fil-a.com.

Manufacturer: Before you recycle last Sunday’s paper, be sure to save the Procter & Gamble coupon circular with $102 in coupons. High-value coupons include a free Cover Girl nail gloss with the purchase of Cover Girl LashBlast mascara (value $5.49), a “buy one, get one free” coupon for Gillette disposable razors for men (value $11.99) and another coupon for women (value $11.99), and $15 off a Braun Series 3, 5, or 7 shaver. CVS: CVS has a promotion that gives you $10 in Extrabucks when you spend $30 on selected Procter & Gamble items. The new daily deals

Daily deal sites have boomed since 2008 — new ones are still cropping up including the recently launched Atlanta-based Koopedia.com — but  lately the going has been rough.

Not only have companies such as Groupon and Living Social reported third quarter losses, but the small retailers who utilize their services are becoming increasingly disappointed with the return on their investment.

Bloomberg/Businessweek recently wrote about the swell of small business owners who have soured on daily deals.

But for Bargain Hunters, where one door may close another opens. It didn’t take long for major retailers to introduce their own daily deals. Here are just a few to note:

Amazon Gold Box Deal of the Day: Amazon also offers lightening deals at different times through the day and deals in various categories.

Home Depot: Find the “Special Buy of the Day”  in the “Savings Center” tab at the top left of the homepage. Other deals are listed as well.

Coupon Mom: Deals on dining out, Starbucks, chocolate and more

Forget leftovers, dine out

When you’re finished with the turkey dinner leftovers, you may want eat dinner out for a change of pace. Use coupons from the Nov. 18 SmartSource circular to save at local restaurants — find coupons for Moe’s Southwest Grill for either $2 off any $10 purchase or more, or a free entree with the purchase of one entree and two 32-ounce drinks.

Also find coupons for Folks, Logan’s Roadhouse and Chuck E. Cheese. This also is the time of year that restaurants offer bonus gift cards when you purchase gift cards. Even if you aren’t giving restaurant gift cards as a gift to someone else, it makes sense to buy gift cards for yourself at your favorite restaurants to get the free bonus card.

For example, Moe’s Southwest Grill will give you $5 in Moe Bucks when you spend $25 on gift cards. On Black Friday only, Logan’s Roadhouse is giving $10 in Logan Bucks with every $25 in gift cards purchased when you use the coupon on the back page of the Nov. 18 SmartSource …

Coupon Mom: Pampers, health items and personal care

Family Dollar

Tide, Pampers, Downy: Family Dollar has a promotion that gives you a free bottle of Tide laundry detergent (40 ounce, value $6) when you spend $25 on participating Procter & Gamble products. Pampers jumbo pack diapers are $10 each and Downy liquid is $5 each. There are several Procter & Gamble items included and you’ll find matching coupons in the Oct. 28 Procter & Gamble circular.

Aspirin: Family Dollar has 32-36 count low-dose aspirin on sale for $2. Use the $1 coupon from the Oct. 21 RedPlum circular to pay $1 each.

CVS

Colgate: CVS has Colgate MaxClean, SmartFoam, MaxWhite or MaxFresh toothpaste (6 ounce) on sale for $2.75. Use the 75-cent coupon from the Nov. 11 coupon circular to pay $2 at the register, and you will get a $2 ExtraBucks reward, so your net cost will be free. Limit two per household.

Pampers, Huggies: CVS has Pampers or Huggies jumbo pack diapers on sale for $10 each. When you buy $30 worth of selected diapers, you will get a $10 ExtraBucks …

Coupon Mom: Baking supplies, vitamins, hair care and more

Prep for holiday baking

Chips, sugar, condensed milk, flavorings: This is the time of year to find coupons and sales on baking ingredients. Find a 75-cent coupon for Nestle Toll House morsels and a 55-cent coupon for Dixie Crystals sugar in the Nov. 4 SmartSource circular. Find a 35-cent coupon for Pillsbury frosting, cookie or quick bread mixes, a 55-cent coupon for Eagle sweetened condensed milk, four coupons for Domino sugar items and three coupons for McCormick extracts in the Nov. 4 RedPlum circular.

KMART

Free eggs with membership rewards: Kmart Shop Your Way members can get a free dozen large eggs when you buy $20 or more of health, beauty or grocery products. Members also can get a free cosmetic bag ($6.99) when you spend $30 or more on holiday fragrance, nail or cosmetic gift sets.

Post cereals: Post cereals are buy one, get one free. Use the $1-off-two coupon from the Nov. 4 RedPlum circular (check store for actual cereal prices).

If you’re not tired of looking at candy, today’s the day to check out after-Halloween candy sales for future children’s parties with piñatas, gifts of mugs filled with candy for hostess or teacher gifts, party favors, baking and more. You can chop up chocolate candy at 75 percent to 90 percent off to use instead of baking chips for holiday baking bargains. I’ve done it!

General Mills cereal: Walgreens has General Mills cereals (8.9- to 12.3-ounce boxes) on sale for $1.99 each. Pay as little as $1.49 per box when you use coupons for selected varieties from the Sept. 23 SmartSource, Oct. 7 General Mills or Oct. 21 SmartSource circulars. Target has larger (14.8- to 18-ounce) General Mills cereals on sale for $2.99. When you buy three, you will get one free. If you use three of the 50-cent General Mills coupons referenced, you’ll pay $1.87 per larger box.

Coupon Mom: Last minute candy, beverages, paper products and more

Last minute candy coupons:

Walgreens: Walgreens has Halloween candy deals, such as Hershey’s fun, miniature or snack-size candy bags (15.92- to 24.44-ounce sizes) at buy one, get one half off. Regularly $5.99, two bags would cost you $9. Use two of the $1 coupons from the Oct. 14 SmartSource circular on 22-ounce bags or larger to pay $7 at the register. You also will get 1,000 points in your Balance Rewards account, which is the equivalent of $1. Your net cost would be $3 per bag, or 50 percent off. Walgreens also has smaller bags of Hershey’s, Mars or Nestlé fun or snack-size candy bags (9.7- to 12.5-ounce sizes) on sale for $2.49. Use the Mars coupons found in the Oct. 7 and Sept. 16 RedPlum circulars for $1.50 off three, along with the 50-cent store coupon found in Walgreens Savings Booklet in stores to pay $1.49 per bag.

A: My husband and three kids ages 9, 7 and 5.
