Coupon Mom: $5 off at Kroger, discounts on Gain, Blistex and cold remedies

$5 coupon at Kroger

General Mills: Kroger has a fantastic promotion that gives you a coupon for $5 off your next shopping order when you buy five participating General Mills items. Many items are on sale and have coupons, so if you remember to use that $5 coupon on a future order, you’ll be able to get several free items and even make a “profit” in the form of store credit on some items. Remember, you won’t get the $5 off your current order, and you must buy five items for the machine to print your future order coupon. These are all excellent items to donate to charity, so you can stock up for upcoming food drives. For example, Betty Crocker boxed potatoes are on sale for $1 per box. If you use the coupon for 50 cents off two from the Oct. 7 General Mills circular or the Sept. 9 SmartSource circular, you’ll pay 50 cents per box at the register after Kroger doubles your coupon. You’ll get $1 per item when you buy five total items as a future store coupon, so you’ll get the potatoes free and make a 50-cent profit per box.

Rite Aid deals

Gain: Rite Aid has Gain liquid or powder laundry detergent (up to 30 loads) or Gain fabric softener (up to 60 loads) on sale for $5 each. You will get a $7 +UP Reward when you spend $20 on participating P&G items, including these Gain items. Buy four Gain items and use two of the $2-off-two coupons from the Sept. 16 RedPlum circular. You will pay $16 at the register and get the $7 reward, so your net cost will be $9 for four items, or $2.25 each.

Blistex: Rite Aid has Blistex Moisture Melt Lip Balm on sale for $2.50 each. You will get a $2.50 +UP Reward, so your net cost will be zero.

Ricola: Rite Aid has Ricola cough drops (19-24 count) on sale for $1.50 each. Use the coupon for $1 off two from the Oct. 14 RedPlum circular to pay $1 each at the register. You will get a $1 +UP Reward, so your net cost will be 50 cents each.

Feel better for less

This is the time of year that cold and flu medicines go on sale and have generous coupons. Find a $1 coupon in the Oct. 14 RedPlum circular for Advil Congestion Relief, Advil Allergy & Congestion Relief, Advil Cold & Sinus or Advil Allergy Sinus. Use the $6 mail-in rebate form next to the coupon to get the item free when it’s selling for $7 or less.
