Meet the new Atlanta Bargain Hunter

After a brief transition, I’m happy to announce … I’m your new Atlanta Bargain Hunter!

And the timing couldn’t be better.

Atlanta Bargain Hunter Nedra Rhone has covered shopping, style, lifestyle trends and consumer issues for the Atlanta Journal-Constitutionsince 2006.

Atlanta Bargain Hunter Nedra Rhone has covered shopping, style, lifestyle trends and consumer issues for The Atlanta Journal-Constitution since 2006.

Kids are back in school, iPhone 5 is on shelves, stores have launched holiday layaways and Black Friday is fast approaching. Whew! It’s enough to make a savvy shopper’s head spin. As always, think of the Atlanta Bargain Hunter as your guide and companion through it all.

In addition to keeping you informed about the best deals and steals throughout metro Atlanta, I’ll be sharing information that impacts your life as a consumer, whether it’s how you spend your money, make your money or manage your money.

To me, bargain hunting is a bit of a sport that can involve pursuing, comparing and couponing until you get the merchandise you want or need. The thrill of the hunt is in my DNA. Sometimes the payoff is a super-low price, and sometimes it just means getting great value at a price acceptable to you.

You know the friend who calls, texts or tweets that your favorite whatever is on sale? That’s me. But that’s you, too. When it comes to deal-spotting, the more eyes the better. Let me know — via this blog’s comments section, or through Twitter, Facebook or email — when you spot a can’t-miss deal. Tune in daily for updates on deals, specials and sales, including some that are exclusive to the Atlanta Bargain Hunter.

Despite declarations from some of our nation’s most esteemed economists, it still feels like we are in a money slump. Are you underwater in your home? Do you plan to drive your car until the wheels fall off? Are most of your investments sitting in the belly of a ceramic pig? I feel your pain. Seriously.

You’ll find guidance and advice here in our regular features, plus special posts on topics particularly important and timely to you. Look for some new Atlanta Bargain Hunter features in the near future as well, including giveaways, polls and reader profiles.

I hope you’ll visit often to respectfully share your experiences, questions, thoughts and suggestions.

Start today, by telling me what you already like about the Atlanta Bargain Hunter blog, or leave suggestions about what you would like to see in the future.

Happy bargain hunting!

I’m sure Nedra’s beautiful appearance did not factor into AJC’s decision to hire her.

If you dine out at Chili’s today, all their net profits got to St Jude’s Children Hospitals…..great food but even a better cause.

Welcome Nedra! We are kindred spirits.
Here’s my tip: I’ve been purchasing some awesome fashion jewelry on ebay. Here are some examples.
Tibetian silver cuff bracelets in many different styles $1.00-$3.00 avg., including shipping!
I received this beauty in the mail today…

Quality compares with Charming Charlie.

Welcome Nedra, In its third iteration I’m hoping this blog takes off. I have to say I enjoyed the financial advise that came in the last version but I did feel like it was a last minute substitution when deals were not forth coming.

I’d love to see some thematic deals;
Consumer Goods

I’m a happy observer, but I get the feeling that there are many deals that are missed because the AJCblog family does not cross pollinate. Let’s all act like we”re at the airport,”If you see something, Say Something.” Deals are everywhere, just keep it closer to a dollar.

I will be sure to contribute to your blog and I am looking forward to reading your posts and I am liking your sites and following them as well. I receive a lot of freebie emails so I will be sure to post those and I also receive a lot of Buy 1 Get One free deals and local deals and specials. I do a lot of traveling so I miss a lot of local bargains but I guess my loss is everyone’s gain…looking forward to reading your posts and have a great week

Nedra, as pretty as you are there is only one real bargain hunter in this city – me. I just bought a stainless steel dishwasher for $35. Can you top that?

Take that…

This is Eye Candy to the max!! AJC not made up of old bald white men after all. Even Cynthia Tucker wasn’t this nice. Ummmm as for Bargains…. Leave that iPhone 5 on da shelf until they fill out those side black bars on the sides of the screen. How can you make a bigger screen and then fill it in with Black bars???

Welcome Nedra… look forward to the column. Please excuse the superficial comments. Not everyone down here is that dense (although sometimes I think they are).

@ Cindy- before you ’shoot and aim later’ Nedra has a graduate degree from some random journalism school called Columbia University. You know, that same journalism school founded by some guy named Joseph Pulitzer (you may have heard about the prize named after his namesake).

Get a brain people…seriously !!

Hi Nedra! I remember you from the blog you did a few years ago with your side-kick. I loved that blog and look forward to your contributions here. I wish you much success in this new role!
