Savings tip: Hold on to great coupons to use during sales
Now that school is back in session, we can expect to see more coupons in The Atlanta Journal-Constitution Sunday circulars. Last Sunday there were three circulars: RedPlum, SmartSource and Procter & Gamble. Don’t overlook the high-value coupons in each circular, and hold on to them to use in future weeks when the items are on sale.
For example, the Aug. 26 RedPlum circular has a coupon for one free Super Poligrip ($2.60 value), and a $10 mail-in-rebate form for Pfizer products. The Aug. 26 SmartSource circular has coupons for 30 cents off one cup of Yoplait Simplait yogurt, which may be free once the store doubles the coupon when the item is on sale. Also find 50 cents off Maruchan noodles (also free when doubled and on sale), “buy one, get one free” coupons for Wholly Salsa (value $3.99), a free Bic FlameDisk (value $4.99), 50 cents off Carefree products, and $2 off Stayfree products. The Procter and Gamble circular has $135 of coupons, including a $5 Gillette razor coupon and many more.
Stock up for cold season
Advil, Dimetapp, Robitussin: Stack the savings and stock your medicine cabinet for cold season. Walgreens has Advil Congestion or Allergy Congestion Relief, Dimetapp and Robitussin on sale for $5 each. Use three of the $1 coupons from the Aug. 26 RedPlum circular to pay $12 at the register. You also will get a $5 Register Rewards coupon when you spend $15 on these items, so your net cost will be $7. If you send in the $10 mail-in rebate form in the same RedPlum circular for the three items, your net cost will be a profit of $3 minus the cost of the stamp. You’ll get three free items and have a $2.50 profit. Additional participating items in the Register Rewards promotion and the mail-in rebate include Centrum, Caltrate, Advil (80-100 count) and Thermacare Heat Wraps (two-three count).
Discounts pair well with new coupons
Saltines, French’s mustard, Nutrigrain bars, Ken’s dressing: Kroger has many sale items marked 50 percent off this week that you can combine with AJC coupons to save 75 percent off or more. For example, Nabisco Premium saltines are $1.15 per box after the $1-off-two Nabisco coupon in the Aug. 5 SmartSource circular. Use the 30-cent French’s mustard coupon from the June 24 SmartSource circular to pay about 25 cents for yellow or brown French’s mustard, use the Aug. 5 coupon for 75 cents off Kellogg’s Nutrigrain bars to pay $1.53 per box and use the coupon for $1 off two Ken’s salad dressings from the Aug. 12 SmartSource circular to pay 99 cents per 16-ounce bottle. Check your Kroger ad for the sale items and check CouponMom.com to see which AJC coupons match the deals on the Kroger Georgia deals list.
Let’s all scream
Ice cream, root beer, brownies: Target has Edy’s ice cream (1.5-quart containers) on sale for $3.25 each. When you buy two, you will get a free two-liter bottle of A&W Root Beer. Fiber One 90-calorie Brownies (six-count boxes) are on sale for $2.50. Use three 50-cent coupons from the Aug. 26 SmartSource circular to pay $2 each, and you also will get a free box when you buy three boxes, so your net cost will be $1.50 each for four boxes.
