Coupon Mom: New-product tip and a bunch of deals

Save with high-value coupons on new products

Take advantage of high-value coupons and sales when manufacturers introduce new products. For example, you will find a $2 coupon for the new Hershey’s Simple Pleasures chocolates (5.6-ounce bag). Kmart has the item on sale for $2.99, so if you use your $2 coupon at Kmart, your final cost will be 99 cents. CVS also has this item on sale for $3, and you can use your coupon to get the chocolates for $1.

Kroger deals

• Chicken: Economists predict the price of chicken and pork will increase later this year because of this summer’s drought and its effect on feed crops. If you have the freezer space, you might want to stock up on rock-bottom sales now. Find Kroger-brand boneless chicken breasts on sale for $1.89 per pound in the value pack, and also bone-in pork picnic roasts for 99 cents per pound. Tyson boneless chicken breasts are on sale for $2.29 per pound.

• Store promotion: Get $5 off when you buy 10 participating items. Ragu pasta sauce 24 oz. is on sale for $1.77, and would be $1.27 after the 50-cent promotion savings if you buy 10 items. Use the 40 cents off two coupon from the July 29 RedPlum circular to pay 87 cents each. Ronzoni pasta is on sale for 99 cents each and would be 49 cents after the promotion savings, no coupon required. Mennen Speed Stick deodorant is on sale for $1.99, and would be $1.49 after the promotion savings. Use the $1 coupon from the Aug. 12 SmartSource circular to pay 49 cents each.

Other deals

• Pet medicines: At Kmart, get a $25 Kmart gift card when you transfer a prescription to the store’s pharmacy. The chain now carries pet medications in its pharmacies, so it may be worth comparing prices and transferring any pet medications to qualify for the gift card.

• School supplies: At Walmart, stock up on one-subject spiral notebooks at 17 cents each. Bic Cristal pens (10 count) are on sale for 97 cents. Use the coupon for $1 off two Bic pens from the July 29 SmartSource circular to pay 47 cents each. Walmart also has composition books for 50 cents each, 150-sheet packages of filler paper for 82 cents each, Cra-Z-Art crayons (24 count) at 25 cents, Cra-Z-Art colored pencils (12 count) or washable markers (10 count) at 50 cents each.

• School eats, quick dishes: At Target, stock up on supplies for school lunches, breakfasts and quick dinners. Oscar Mayer Delifresh lunchmeat (7- to 9-ounce packages) is on sale for $2.79 each (about $5 per pound). When you buy two packages of any lunchmeat, yget a free package of Wonder bread (value $1.99). Vitaminwater 20-ounce bottles are on sale for 88 cents each. Ragu pasta sauce (24-ounce jars) is on sale for $1.49. Use the coupon for 40 cents off two from the July 29 RedPlum circular to pay $1.29 each when you buy two jars. Dannon Activia yogurt (four-pack cups) is on sale for $2 each. Use the $1 coupon from the Aug. 19 SmartSource circular to pay $1 for the Breakfast Blend variety if it’s included in the sale.
