How to spend nothing (or very little) on gift wrap

Are you down to the wrapping stages for your holiday gifts? I am.

Just this weekend I was running out to a party and realized I needed to wrap a gift. I grabbed a gift bag I had saved from a previous present, tissue paper saved from a different gift, and BAM! Instant, free gift wrap.

But some people get very creative about saving money this season. This article from MoneyTalksNews inspired me to start thinking about more ways to wrap presents for free — and to use my creative side in the process. (I wasn’t convinced about No.7, brown bags, until I saw the picture.)

Are you creative about saving money on gift wrap? What about on presents?

When we were very poor, I used the Sunday comics. I saved them for months. (I was able to get the AJC through a special deal for college students.)

My sister-in-law is a great present wrapper. One year, she did brown paper bags tied with strips of gingham checked ribbon. It looked fantastic!

Catlady, I have also used the Sunday comics.

Now, I usually buy wrap right after Christmas and save it for next year. I buy some in non-Christmas colors to use at other times throughout the year.

Correction: My SIL didn’t tie it with ribbon, she tore strips of red and white gingham cloth and used it as ribbon.

My friend buys plain red so it looks good all year long AND at Christmas. Either that, or any plain color will do for her.
