One-stop shop for the best deals in the area

Who doesn’t like a good deal?

Everyone likes to save a bit, but no one wants it to be a hassle. Atlanta is flooded with daily deal sites and if you’ve signed up for their email blasts, your Inbox is also flooded, sometimes with “deals” you have no interest in. Perhaps you like restaurants and spas, but could do without the skydiving and bootcamp specials.

It’s that kind of specificity that Yipit, a daily deal site aggregator debuting in the metro area today, will bring, said co-founder Vin Vacanti.

The site launched three months ago in five cities — Los Angeles, New York, Boston, Chicago and San Francisco — and quickly built a base of 16,000 subscribers to the free email service. Atlanta is the first of what is expected to be a multiple-city expansion. With 150-200 newcomers signing up every day, there’s a clear sign that consumers want deals, but want them delivered efficiently.

“These sites are creating these amazing daily deals, but for the consumer it can sometimes be a little confusing,” said Vacanti. “They are great deals, but they are not always relevant to you.”

Yipit will filter deals from 10 sites offering local deals, including Groupon, My Daily Thread, Living Social, The Green Half, Scout Mob, Half Off Depot, Adility Daily Deal and Half Off Buys. There are more than a dozen categories to choose from when selecting the types of deals you want to receive.

It differs from aggregator 8Coupons.com because it focuses only on daily deals and customizes emails. However, with 8coupons.com, a consumer could find a wider variety of specials.

The collective buying power that makes the deal sites industry successful is only growing. Two lesser know sites, Deal On and Tippr, have entered the local arena.

“These sites are very inexpensive to run from a technology perspective,” Vacanti said. “A minor amount of success and you can generate a profitable business.”

Question: How often do you use deal sites like these to save money? What types of deals are you most interested in?
