Princess Tiana, Disney’s first new princess in 10 years, is also the brand’s first African-American princess. She stars in the movie, “The Princess and Frog,” which comes out Dec. 11. The excitement about a new princess, and the long-standing adoration for princesses Cinderella, Snow White, Sleeping Beauty and Ariel, is sweeping little girls off their feet these days. They’ll be especially excited to learn that on Nov. 21, the Georgia Aquarium is free for girls 12 and under wearing a princess costume. Boys aren’t left out. Boys 12 and under wearing a frog or prince costume are also free. The offer is good for one child per paid adult and annual pass member. From 10 a.m.-4 p.m., there will be parades, games and fairytale fun.

Ice Skating at Centennial Olympic Park

The last time I tried to go ice skating at Centennial Olympic Park, the unseasonably warm weather put the occasion on ice. Instead, we enjoyed the holiday lights and spent time in the park. This year, I hope the weather is bit more cooperative. The rink is open from Nov. 14 through Jan. 31. The only individual discount I’ve found so far is for college students, who get $1 off admission (paying $6 instead of $7) and free skate rental, on Mondays and Tuesdays from Nov. 16 through Dec. 15, and on the same days Jan. 4 through Jan. 26.

Complimentary photo with Santa

As you make your holiday plans, keep in mind there is a free photo opportunity with Santa following the annual Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta Christmas Parade on Dec. 5. After the parade, children can take the picture at The Mall at Peachtree Center from noon-2 p.m.

Reminder: Free admission specials for Veterans Day

A number of attractions in the area are offering free admission to men and women who have or are serving in the military. Here’s a recap of last week’s post:

The Georgia Aquarium is offering $20 tickets to active, retired, veteran and reserve military personnel and their families Nov. 7 through Nov. 15. Plus, they will get a 10 percent discount in the gift shop. You have to show a military identification.

The World of Coca-Cola is free for active and retired military personnel Nov. 7-14, and 50 percent off for up to four family members or friends.

Imagine It! Children’s Museum is free for active and retired military personnel from Nov. 7-15, and tickets are discounted to $9.50 for an additional friend or family member.

The CNN Studio Tour will offer free admission to active duty service members, reserves, national guard, veterans and retired veterans Nov. 7-15. Their guests will receive admission for $10 each.

The National Museum of Patriotism is also free to all active and retired military personnel, while all their guests will get 50 percent off admission.

I also came across this wonderful link to 35 Veterans Day freebies and discounts, including free admission for everyone at all national parks.

It’s a shame people have become so coarse. For one person to ruin a thread is pitiful. Your last post about self help plumbing repairs was useful and something we all face. Maybe more of those please.

Grocery coupon links are always good too.

Considering the economy at present, entertainment is just not on my list. Thanks for the hard work !

Tyree, Thanks for the kind words. I’ll keep in mind the grocery store links as well. And don’t let the economy spoil all your entertainment. There’s plenty of free and inexpensive stuff to do around town! Thanks again for reading.

Hang in there Tyree! I am hoping and praying this economy will turn around soon for all of us…there are many ways to enjoy the city without spending a bunch of money so don’t be so hasty to put entertainment out of your life!

This upcoming movie is disgusting, why is Disney responding to the White House ’s pressure to brainwash people with multi cultural relationships? What if most Americans are tired to hear about it, especially with all the propaganda on TV since 2008 in commercials, shjows and movies? Isn’t there already the message everywhere we need to indoctrinate our little kids about this? Why do we need now to show a black prince going with a White princess or vice versa when we never did this? it will definietly irritate most of America which is conservative (not necessarily racist btw). Remember America voted Obama to fix the recession (where we see no result) not to promote his interracial agenda. Disney’s producers and artists are not even black it looks all too condescendent. Disney wont even call it ‘the black princess’. They have to hide the black theme under a frog. How misleading and hypocrit
