I’ve finally gotten rid of the yellow stain on my carpet. It was unattractive, to say the least, and made me angry at myself every time I looked down at it.
A dinner guest inadvertently dropped an entire glass of red wine all over on my carpet. It splashed on the wall, the blinds and of course made its mark on the floor as well.
Fortunately — or so I thought — she had a fast and reliable solution. We took a bottle of white wine and poured it on top of the red wine. Voila! For weeks, it was spotless and I was satisfied.
Then came the pale, yellowish stain that started to appear. Yikes!
Since then, I’ve called a professional carpet cleaner who fixed it for me. But, I’ve sought other Do It Yourself solutions and came across this one called “Easy Wine Stain Removal.”
The process is easy, according to Do It Yourself:
Wine stain removal can be a nuisance, especially with red wine. The best solution as with any stains is to use a wine stain removal solution right away. For wine stain removal on clothing or other fabrics, you can use white wine to remove it. If that wine stain removal process fails, you can create a solution for the fabric to pre-soak in:
• 1 Cup Dawn Dish Washing Liquid
• 1 Cup Hydrogen PeroxideAllow the mixture to soak into the clothes before laundering. You should place a clean towel in between the stain and the back of the item of clothing to ensure it does not soak through.
Wine Stain Removal For Carpeting
If you spill red wine on the carpeting, pour hydrogen peroxide over the stain and blot the stain away. In tougher stains or colorfast carpets you will want a wine stain removal solution consisting of luke warm water and vinegar. You can blot the majority of the stain away and then use a clean damp sponge and some elbow grease for the remainder.
Now, I have no plans to spill wine on my carpet again. However, I am hosting a wine tasting and understandably have some concerns. In the unfortunate event I’m twice bitten, I’ll try this solution.
What stain removal techniques have you used? Have they been effective? Which have been nightmares?

Do you mean you poured the bottle of white wine over the red wine spot?

I much prefer Folex over the 10:1 Woolite solution.
As a detailer, that’s my go-to spot blaster.

Does anyone have any tips for removing beer stains out of the carpet? Courtesy of my brother’s friends … unfortunately I didn’t find out about it until the nice stain appeared on my carpet a few days later. Boys will be boys …
Also for wine stains — here’s what the professional carpet cleaner did:
- Sprayed ammonia on the stain
- Put a wet towel over the stain
- Steamed the heck out of it with an iron.
It worked! It was a huge red wine stain and it’s almost invisible now.
Thanks!
